Hi ma ,please i'm also interested in writing the CSC.I'm trying to get a job in financialservices .I've been here since January.
Iwill really appreciate if you could send me soft copy of the course materials.I will still register for it,but i'm saving up the money for registration, $1099 is not beans atm.
Many thanks in advance.

Iyamefa:

Hey, I’ve sent them.
Just for information purposes, if you decide to register for the exam, as far as I know, you’re still required to pay for hard copies of the books.

Lucky you.ICT people have it best!
I will double up on my LinkedIn strategy.I just signed up for LinkedIn Premium as well. This March will be my last month unemployed IJN
Fusion23:

Ok all the best am sure you will be fine , so have been here just over a year and was lucky cos it was IT . Landed in Saskatchewan, got a job in like 2 weeks ..moved to Ottawa..got a better job moved to Edmonton...

but yes did lots of interviews with big companies PWC , Deloitte etc and wasn't given the job but kept trying.... when I wanted to change job $$ I just kept on applying and the job i had was also good so I had nothing to loose ....did about 10 interviews that I become so good in interviews grin ..it was just a matter of time.

I used just LinkedIn and Monster.ca

for me my major issue is stability now over more money cos i dont apply for jobs ..recruiters reach out via linkedin and email..

i guess there is a shortage in my area a bit...also positioning your self linkedin and monster might help.

Thanks. My work exp isnt too straigh forward.I'm an economist with Msc Finance.I have mainly experience in govt -macro research and operations.I'm trying to work in financial services especially operations/settlement/data entry/risk etc
As for recruitement agences,i was using Acces Canada-they tried but they are quite sluggish.I am now using TalentCor which is able to get contract roles in TD Bank.So fingers crossed on that.i am even ready to work below minium wage or free for a month in financials services just so i will be more marketable
How long were u in Canada before getting a job/I've not yet considered other provinces, let me stretch my luck in Toronto, plus i'm not ready to deal with the colder regions
Fusion23:

Keep on persisting Ray, what field are you IN? also what research did you do on job before moving to Canada..also have you considered other provinces ..

I can imagine like if you are a journalist it would be hard to break for example...also how have u packaged yourself in CV and co..

Have you tired recruitment agencies also.

I see a lot of other countries make I no mention name boost their experience to 10 even thou its only 3-4 or they do a three months course and say they have 5 years experience with reference to back it up....

But please keep trying , new provinces , new job position etc.

I remembered applying for a Manager Position at Deloitte ..asking for 10-15 years experience when i had just close to 5 ..it does not hurt too much the experience might also help.

Oga before you crucify me.The sales job was gonna make me sign a training bond preventing me from resigning for about 2 years or so.Considering that Marketing is really not my preferred line of work, and it was gonna be a commission based role.Imagine if took the offer and then later ongot my preferred role ,i would be bound by the contract and have to repay them.No

I have customized my cv to the best of my knowledge,i have a cv for different roles-customer service, data entry, operations, risk analysis.I have done two online assesments for one bank and a telecommunciations firm,i am waiting for the outcome but still aggresively applying as it is a game of numbers. I have also attended a networking session.
My prefered role is a banking operations/data entry role.Last last i will start looking for cashier or store clerk jobs for sustenance
maternal:

So instead of doing a sales/marketing job, making some money and getting some Canadian experience on the resume, you decide to remain unemployed? Also your resume must be customized to fit the role they want or need. Hence why they want the exact role as advertised. Do you realize the networking opportunities you could have had if you took that job ? You are your worst enemy.

Almost two months here in Canada and still without a job.I refused a sales/marketing commission based role though. This wait is getting tiring now.
Canadian recruiters are OBSESSED with 'canadian work experience' .It is a huge red flag if none of your previous work or education was done in Canada. They are also obsessed with you having performed the exact same role as they advertised, they dont even try to deduce your skill set from similar roles you've performed.Very risk averse people,no wonder they are not known for Foreign Direct Investment abroad.

Wow nice.I have been here 7 weeks,Turned down a marketing job and warehouse job as it was too menial.I am also seriously trying to get a banking job.Have you gotten the job yet?
Ogundre:
Hello People,

Greetings from Toronto. I got in here 11 days ago, everything has been fine so far and hoping to get a job soon as i have done a telephone interview with a bank and I was told the second stage of telephone interview will hold next week.

I actually got a job 4 days after I landed as I had two stage interviews for a marketing job but I turned it down as it wasn't what I wanted, it was about marketing credit cards to people at stores and salary was based on commission meaning i only get paid based on the number of sales i make per day.

Anyway, I have a question to ask please. For a British citizen, does the person need to go through same process as we all went through writing IELTS, ECA etc for Express Entry or Provincial nomination to migrate to Canada or there is a special process for them being that they colonized Canada. Please anyone with similar experience should helpwith responses.

And please apart from SIN, BANK ACCOUNT, DRIVERS LICENCE, HEALTH CARD, is there any other thing one needs to register for?

Thank you

Good evening guys,so i'm set to travel next week Monday.Bought my tickets-Ethiopian Airlines.Got some questions to ask.
1)At arrival at the Toronto Airport on Tuesday morning by 8am,can my USD dollars be changed to Canadian dollars at the airport? Can i get a phone sim at the airport too?Which line is preferable and what price?
2)How do i transport myself from airport to my hosts place-cab or train? Are there airport cabs?or do i Uber?
3)How soon can i set up my bank account? Are there banks in the airport?Which bank is the best for new PRs?
Really appreciate any feedback.Thanks

Praise the Lord, deliverance has finally come from London. Its PPR.

NA2 - July 29th
File transfer to London - September 20th 2017
IP2 - January 17th 2018
PPR - January 18th 2018

Thought of a lot of things but I am speechless just grateful to God that the ordeal is over.

To my people (too many wonderful people to start calling out names) in the July AOR London Whatsapp group, you are the best. We did a lot of consolation and outbursts at London VO wink. I pray that very soon, the name will be changed to Landing in Canada cause no one will be left out in the PPR rain this month.

Whew, finally made it to Part 3 of the thread. grin

Please where can one buy canadian dollar in Nigeria before travelling?Do banks sell it as BTA?what rate too?
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant by ray78: 11:21am On Dec 22, 2017
Thanks for your reply.Yea i figured landlords will be expecting the teneants to already be in canada before renting.Did you get your room from Nigeria or when you were already in Canada? How many months rent did you pay upfront?or just the initial month?I'm looking for friends in Toronto to put up with for a week or 2 when i land, before renting a room.
DatechMan:
You should be able to get within $500 - $600. A good room in a shared apartment. I got my place for $550, here in Westwood area Mississauga.

Try kijij.ca.

But to be honest with you it is easier to find a temp accomodation of $20-30 per night on airbnb from Nigeria than to get a room on Kijiji. Calling the landlord or texting seems to work best. Unless you have someone that can help you to do that. Most of the landlords will usually have loads of questions. Some will even want to see your face grin . I am not trying to discourage you though.

Were you asked have to submit a new bank statement? How will they expect one to make up the money without borrowing(which they dont expect)
revlane:
Thanks for the input. I raised the issue here so many people can learn from it. Sometimes they minute on your application and just leave it like that for months not touching it. You won't know what is going on. My advice is to take note of all these info here before submitting any application and when you notice their isn't movement for a long while (Not London V.O) try to order GCMS to at least see your application status. I have been asked to pay RPRF sha so I guess am lucky.
