Politics / Still On Olusegun Mimiko And His 'beatification' By Bishop Kukah by realglob(m): 8:24am On Sep 22, 2016
Bishop Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, is a man who is well known as one who does not speak lightly or play to the gallery on any matter especially as it concerns, faith, politics and governance. He is one of those who speak truth to power without batting an eyelid. Having been called to an austere life as a priest, Kukah is one of those very few men in our clime who court no favours and welcome disdain without any qualms even from the high and mighty as long as it is for the cause of truth. He is a man generally known for his candour and fearlessness.

His avowed integrity and forthrightness qualified him to serve as Secretary to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission popularly called the Oputa Panel at the dawn of our current democratic dispensation wherein he discharged his duties passionately and to the satisfaction of not only those who appointed him but also of all Nigerians.

He is among the very few Nigerians who have told Buhari that blaming the past administration for every ill of Nigeria while abdicating his own responsibility to act was only going to drive the country southwards.

He also had at different times warned the president about the way he was fighting corruption and making it the sole business of government as that could lead to the collapse of the polity. Today, those warnings not heeded have led us into recession.

So when such a man commends any one, then the person is worthy of commendation indeed; one does not need to look too far to know why.

During one of the activities of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Nigeria holding in Akure, Bishop Kukah, being overwhelmed by the developmental strides of Olusegun Mimiko, the governor of Ondo State, commended the governor on the strides and even went as far as asking other governors to emulate Mimiko.

Hear the Bishop: “For us in Nigeria, we have always believed that solution to bad government is to hand over everything to the private sector. So, I am quite pleased with the fact that things are working here…”

This is by no small measure, a justification of all those who have been commending the Ondo State governor for a job well done. No one visits Ondo State without leaving with a positive impression as Mimiko has etched his signet of service through his ‘Caring Heart’ initiative in the hearts of the indigenes and residents alike.

One of the interventions of government which the bishop spoke particularly highly of is the Ondo Emergency Medical Services which dot strategic locations in the state. With this emergency services, rescue operations with sophisticated machines and medical aid are made available to accident victims in the state within a short period of between 12 to 15 minutes irrespective of location of incident, thereby saving lives of such victims and prevent deaths that usually occur from such accidents in our country.

In a country where fatality rate from accidents are only rivaled by that caused by malaria, this service is music to the ear especially when one considers that Ondo State is a major corridor for travelers from different parts of the country.

In addition, as at today, Ondo state has the lowest mortality rate in Nigeria. And the reason is not a mystery. At the Mother & Child Hospital, another of governor Mimiko’s ‘Caring Heart’ initiative, women are offered child birth services, whether natural delivery or caesarean section, absolutely free of charge as long as the patient has the State’s kaadi igbeayo. For those who may not have the card which is an all-encompassing card that caters to the socio-economic needs of its holders in the state, cost of delivery through caesarian section can be as low as N10,000.

With about 55 ‘Caring Heart’ mega schools dotting the tranquil landscape of the state, Governor Mimiko has taken education in Ondo to a new height.

The new ambience, architectural aesthetics, learning facilities including ICT centres equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and well-motivated teachers all contribute to making the mega schools be in a class of their own.
In addition to this is the free shuttle bus for students that has been operating without any form of interruption for four years since 2012.

This service takes school children to their respective schools irrespective of whether they are students of public or private schools. Consequently, the daily burden of additional expenses by parents for the transport fare of their children/wards is eliminated.

The good story from Ondo State under Mimiko can go on and on.
So, when a priest in the mould of Bishop Hassan Kukah commends the Ondo State governor, it is because he was convinced about the developmental strides he saw.

No doubt, Bishop Kukah must have heard about the developmental strides in Ondo, but as a man who would not speak on any matter based on hearsay, he had not made any comment concerning the state lest he speaks amiss, as anyone could claim phantom feats in Nigeria. However, having seen things himself, the clergyman could not hide his elation at what he saw and he commended governor Mimiko so highly for them, more like the ‘beatification’ of a worthy leader, while advising other leaders to emulate the Iroko.

Politics / Buhari Have You Forgotten What You Said: "Abacha Never Stole" by realglob(m): 8:15am On Sep 22, 2016
President Buhari who once declared Abacha a saint, saying he didn't steal from Nigeria, is today asking Switzerland to release to Nigeria our stolen funds.

My question is, which fund? Stolen by who?

Contrary to claims by President Muhammadu Buhari that former Head of State, the late General Sani Abacha never stole, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that he left over N287bn in the national treasury, made up of $2bn, £100m and N10bn in cash and property, being the loot recovered from the late dictator, General Sani Abacha.

According to Obasanjo, the funds were paid into the treasury through the Central Bank of Nigeria before he handed over power to the late Umar Musa Yar’Auda on May 29, 2007.

Obasanjo’s disclosure was contained in the Vol. II of his memoir, My Watch and reviewed by Punch.

My question again is, which fund? Stolen by who?

Systemic Killing Of Migrant Nigerians In South Africa

By Odimegwu Onwumere

“Nigerians in South Africa want reciprocity; we are tired of intimidation and victimisation,” was part of a communiqué the President of Nigeria Union, South Africa, Mr. Ikechukwu Anyene sent out across the world following some recent killings of Nigerians in South Africa.

Over the years, migrant Nigerians have been killed in torrents in what Anyene regarded as systemic killing.

His complaints have been that many migrant Nigerian workers in South Africa were being killed by unidentified persons and scoundrel officers of the South African Police Service.

Against this backdrop, Nigerians have been bewildered with an embarrassment of problems in the hands of South Africans.

Many people have seen this overabundance of predicaments that Nigerians have been suffering per minute as preventable, biased and confrontational in all ramifications.

Killed By Workers Of A Private Security Company

Ikejiaku Chinedu, 35, father of three, who left the shores of Nigeria some years ago in search of greener pastures in South Africa, has been killed.

His death has drawn ire of concerns apart from Nigerians in the Diaspora, but, also, the international community has been thrown into hysteria over the issue.

“Many Nigerians in search of greener pasture in foreign countries have met their untimely death as a result of extra-judicial killings, among other reasons.

“The situation is particularly precarious in South Africa where police and other assailants have turned Nigerians into games to be hunted down at the slightest provocation,” Nigerian Journalist Dayo Oketola said, while on a 405-kilometre journey from Pretoria to Ladysmith in November 2015, for sightseeing.

Little did Chinedu’s beloved ones and he know that he would not return to Nigeria alive; he was killed on July 26 2016, at Mokopane town, Limpopo Province of South Africa, by workers of a private security company, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), have gathered.

Attacked And Burnt Alive

The killing of Chinedu has rattled migrant Nigerian workers in South Africa who have become preys in the hands of South African locals in the recent times.

They have been attacked and many burnt alive, especially in a xenophobic attack on foreign migrant workers early last year. They have also been looted in their shops and these acts still persist.

The Nigerian groups in South Africa have been calling on the international community to see the dastardly killings and destructions of their property that South Africans have been meting out to them in their places of work, street and abode.

Anyene has been calling on the Nigerian mission in South Africa, calling on the Federal Government of Nigeria to insist on having the findings of inspections of the numerous murder cases of Nigerians by South Africans.

According to the source, “Most of these cases have not been solved and in majority of the cases, nobody has been arrested. Note that majority of them have been reported to the police and they have official case numbers.

“This is strange in a country where the police force is efficient and the rate of successful prosecution is high. The overall successful prosecution rate of 92.2 per cent was recorded in 2014/15. Does this mean that Nigerians’ lives do not matter?”

Voices Against The Killings

Chinedu’s death was one out of the many migrant Nigerians in search of a livelihood outside their home country killed in South Africa.

Many Nigerians fled South Africa in the event of dislike or prejudice against people from other countries by South Africans in 2015.

Mr. Raila Odinga, who's Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, cried out that ethnicity in the country was not welcomed.

A Political Writer-based in Zimbabawe, Reason Wafawarova said in a public presentation that the world saw what happened with xenophobic; or is it afrophobic attacks in South Africa.

“Tribalism has nurtured the typical African into a hating animal when it comes to outsiders, and most of us inherently consider outsiders lesser beings, even those that are clearly more successful than ourselves,” Wafawarova said.

Apart From Chinedu

In different scenarios, Gideon Ogalaonye, an indigene of Onitsha, Anambra, was purportedly shot dead in South Africa at 7 p.m., on July 29, 2016.

Nnamdi Michael, an indigene of Enugu State, was supposedly stabbed to death by a Zimbabwean national at Yeoville at 8 p.m.

“The Zimbabwean has been handed over to the police and we will follow the case. The two incidents have been reported to the Nigerian mission in South Africa and the South African police.

“The Nigerian community in South Africa is not happy with the killings. We urge the Federal government to persuade its South African counterpart to investigate and prosecute incidents of killings of Nigerians in that country. We are getting worried about these incessant killings and we want the culprits prosecuted,” Anyene said.

Rising Hope

This is a diminutive account of what Nigerian migrants in search of a work in South Africa suffer, therefore relegating the Labour Migration policies of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), to the background.

But Mr. Collins Mgbo, the Secretary of Nigeria Union, Limpopo Province chapter, however told the NAN in Polokwane, Limpopo Province on Friday, July 29 2016, that there was an assurance of a detailed investigation into the killing of Chinedu by South African Police, after they met with Nigerian community.

“We reported the brutal killing of the Nigerian to the police. They have taken up the matter and assured of comprehensive investigation on the incident.

“The police also told us to be calm and law abiding. The union has informed the Nigerian community in the province on the development,” Mgbo said.

South African Authorities

Upon all these, the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Lulu Mnguni, on Wednesday, June 15 2016, in Lagos, said that South Africa receives an arithmetic mean of about 10 million foreign tourists every year, which include an approximate of 50,000 Nigerians.

“About 50,000 Nigerians visit South Africa every year for tourism.  South Africa has really been able to harness her tourism potential to continue to attract internal and external tourists.

“South Africa receives an average of about 10 million foreign tourists yearly, including about 50,000 Nigerian visitors,’’ Mnguni added.

Op you are very economically with truth. You probably wrote this with anger because your post is all prejudice.

UNN is situate in my village, both I and my sister weren't able to make UNN even after applying for two years.
My average scores for both years were 224 and 218 but I didn't get Political Science and same is the story for my sis.

But when we tried other schools, I discovered that with my first average in UNN I would have gotten my dream course in many other schools in other parts of the Nigeria. Nobody in my house and my area puts all hope in UNN. That's UNN for you.

Change your mind and begin to think positive and keep trying maybe next year you will make it.
UNN no be beans.
Am happily studying in Benue.

OP, I must say am very disappointed in you, you claim to be enlightened but your reasoning leaves a lot to be desired. Firstly, the list is called MERIT LIST, only those that hit the cut off marks will be admitted not minding your tribe. The questions you should ask yourself is that how many of the Yorubas actually chose the university? secondly, for those that chose the school, how many beat the cut? Or are u expecting those that didn't meet the cut off to be on the list while those that did should be denied just to please an ethnic group? You should make research first before you come online and start causing trouble and saying what you know nothing about. The UNILAG you are talking about, I wrote JAMB three times for the school and each cases I was never more than two points their merit cut off, I beat all the catchment cut offs but was never given admission. Be careful when you talk

I graduated from that university about 15years ago and I can tell you that authoritatively that every new academic session we used to see the supplementary cut offs for quota system(this comes after the merit list) and in this you see cut off marks for each state pasted in each department.
While you saw states like IMO,anambra, abia and Enugu gets cut off at 245(a few western States like sad Oyo and ogun too at this level),most northern States will have cut off like 130 for the same course. Yet,only very few of them will make it!
Note that this is for the various supplementary lists. The merit list is purely from jamb scores. And that one is pure and unadulterated and that's what you saw.
Well said
I normally don't respond to anyone who digresses to insults but made an exception on your case for the sake of many uninformed and over zealous kids who would degenerate this into tribal bigotry without having an iota of idea on how admission processes are structured
Foreign Affairs / South Africa’s Zuma Pays $542,000 Bill Over House Scandal by realglob(m): 6:01pm On Sep 12, 2016

South African President Jacob Zuma has paid back $542,000 of public money spent refurbishing his private home, his office said Monday, in a controversy that has dominated his second term in office.

The country’s highest court found earlier this year that Zuma had violated the constitution by defying an order to repay some of the funds used to renovate Nkandla, his traditional homestead.

It ordered him to pay back funds spent on non-security upgrades — including a chicken coop, swimming pool and amphitheatre — valued by the treasury at 7,814,155 million rand ($542,000).

“President Zuma has paid over the amount… to the South African Reserve Bank as ordered by the Constitutional Court of South Africa,” the presidency said in a statement.

It added that the president raised the money through a home loan.

The treasury confirmed separately that the payment had been received.

The Nkandla scandal has dogged Zuma’s presidency, becoming a symbol of alleged corruption and greed within the ruling African National Congress (ANC) party and triggering several unsuccessful impeachment bids by the opposition.

A 2014 report by the public ombudswoman, Thuli Madonsela, found that Zuma and his family had “unduly benefited” from the upgrade work — valued in 2014 at 216 million rand (then $24 million) — and ordered him to pay back some of the money.

The president reacted by ordering two government investigations that cleared his name, including a report by the police minister which concluded that the swimming pool was a fire-fighting precaution.

In March, the Constitutional Court ruled Zuma had “failed to uphold, defend and respect the constitution as the supreme law of the land”.

The ANC suffered historic losses in South Africa’s local elections last month, garnering less than 54 percent of ballots cast — an eight-point drop from the last local poll in 2011 and its worst showing since the fall of white-minority rule in 1994.

SUNANTA (THIS GIRL)

You have always been the Goro in my Akwori,
Everyday I watch our Aure in my unending dreams,
That even her elongated Hijab failed woefully in hiding her beauty beneath.

Anytime I watch her Lebe speak,
My heart leaps for joy, as John the Baptist did in the womb of Elizabeth when Maria visited.

Her glowing face and sleek lips reminds me of cupid stories and fantasies that now bemuse me.

How can I stop thinking of you Sunanta?
Ever since that day this Nyanrinya per excellence crossed my path,
In Adamawa ‘The Land of Beauty’ to be precise,

I rarely close my Ido now at night,
For her I fit to be an Arewa-Mafia,
To make sure I fight and defend what my heart holds dear.

Here she comes… Mun gode Allah.

Family / Father Puts Pepper In 10-yr-old Daughter’s Private Part Over Lottery Ticket by realglob(m): 12:44am On Aug 11, 2016
An Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, yesterday remanded a 37-year-old father, Okoro Odia, in prison custody for putting ground pepper on his 10-year-old daughter’s private part for not submitting his lotto number to the agent.

Okoro is standing trial on a three-count charge of indecent treatment, attempt to commit murder and assault. Prosecutor, Ihiehie Lucky, told the court that the accused committed the alleged offences sometime in June and August.

Ihiehie said that Okoro, a furniture maker, unlawfully and indecently dealt with his daughter. He said the step-mother, Abayomi Maria, reported that the accused always beat up the girl.

The prosecutor said the complainant told the police that Okoro had, sometime in June, used a dog chain to tie the girl to a ceiling fan and left her there. Ihiehie told the court that the accused tied the daughter to the ceiling because she failed to submit his lotto number to the agent.

He told the court that the indecent assault on the girl was reported by the step-mother to Ketu Police Station. Maria, the prosecutor said, told policemen that on August 8 at about 8p.m., Okoro called his daughter to bring her school report sheet.

He said: “When he saw that she failed, he  put pepper in her private part, eyes and all over her body. “Her screams alerted the step-mother who tried to stop him. But he beat her up.” Ihiehie said the offences contravened Sections 135, 228(1) and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused, however, denied the charges.

The magistrate, Mrs Temitope Oladele, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum. Oladele said that the sureties must deposit N100,000 each into the Chief Registrar’s account and show evidence of gainful employment in a reputable organisation.

She also said that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment and their addresses verified by the court, and adjourned the case till October 13 for mention.

Aisha vs. Fayose: Truth spoken too late, more destructive than a lie

By Odimegwu Onwumere

Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and their ilk have been sending feint to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State over a supposedly trip to the United States of America, USA, by the wife of Major General Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, on August 3 2016, but they are fighting a lost battle.

In the event leading to the hypothetically trip, Fayose had said that Aisha played a role in Jefferson bribery scandal. The ebullient governor made the comment the umpteenth time. Some links were said to have been distributed to the USA Justice department to show testimony of the odious funds that were allegedly transferred by Aisha.

The fearless and indomitable Fayose claimed that Buhari should own up that he was as corrupt just as those he was witch-hunting instead of following the rule of law. Since June 20, Fayose had not said this like one having water in his mouth; he said it loud and clear!

In the words of Fayose, “Even the President cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted over the Halliburton Scandal (sic). When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialize the judgment for people to see and read.”

Nigerians cannot rule out the fact that Governor Fayose is brave, outspoken and a man who has refused to talk like a boy when others have chickened out in the Major General Buhari-led (un) democratic governance for fear of being haunted.

We are not talking about the democratic government here, but what happens under Nigeria’s democracy under Buhari – where Buhari cajoles lawyers and judiciary apparently – not to follow professionalism in the conduct of charges against some alleged corrupt persons, but should send such persons to prison without a trial.

Remember that Buhari on April 1, 2016 said his government was not prepared to release from detention the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and Director of the Europe Based Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, for alleged treason, as well as former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, a retired Army Colonel, who is facing corruption charges.

Hear Buhari: “Dasuki, who is presently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), has multiple cases in court, which he must diligently face and answer. Nnamdi Kanu has committed a serious offence and therefore government is not prepared to release him based on the numerous bail orders handed down by the different courts”. In short, the governor said many things in this stead.

After Fayose made that claim against Aisha, a make-believe ‘Aisha Buhari’ passport was circulated over the media, especially the online, as the one who was the ‘culprit’ that Fayose was talking about, and not the Major General’s wife.

There was jittery in the presidency and it took them nearly two months or so to ‘package’ news that Aisha travelled to the USA, when we were being fed that she was represented at an event in the USA by the wife of Senate President, Mrs. Bukola Saraki.

But before we could open some pictures of Mrs. Saraki with the Obamas, the image launderers of Aisha started bombarding the social media with ‘Aisha pictures in the USA’. They also sent out some videos of her in the USA without us seeing her with those that matter.

The irony is that Fayose did not gamble with his stance, but it took Aisha a conduct-of-life to come out with her USA trip story. We know that both positive and negative thinking are infectious, so Fayose was right in his thinking.

The governor triumphed over procrastination, but Aisha didn’t. She showed that there could be some truth in the position of Fayose by the way she delayed, deferred, dilly-dallied, lazy, postponed, procrastinated going to the USA at the early time of the accusation.

The APC Ekiti and others insulting Fayose today ought to hide their faces in shame and apologise to Fayose. Remember that Major General Buhari and those in his bandwagon had on June 27 2016 announced that Aisha would travel to USA that day for the June 30th  World First Ladies Conference holding at Colorado USA., in order to confirm that she was innocent.

Many Nigerians and onlookers were toned to that news, but what we saw were a jittered Aisha and her husband’s presidency making a u-turn. They saw that Nigerians would say ‘there is Jack in the bedroom’; hence, they told us that Aisha had left for the Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.

Their game was a bad one! There was no need keeping the travel of Aisha to the USA for so long. An innocent person would always show action, avoidance of doubt, courage, resolve to establish his or her innocence.

Aisha’s delay before the emergence of the news that she was in the USA in August, was habitual procrastination. Fayose showed courage which was more important than the Aisha’s shallow victory.

Fayose showed a sign of thinker: maturity. Fayose never gave excuses like – Aisha – that will not take anyone far. Fayose was calm, cool, humble, but Aisha and her husband's presidency showed procrastination and allowed excuses reign supreme.

They delayed justice and highly missed the scant trust that people had in them. Governor Fayose wears the crown of victory having not tarried on his goals in speaking out unlike those that have buried their joy for shying away, hence bearing the mark of untold story written all over them, because of fear of the untouchable Major General Buhari.

We know that Fayose's bribery stance will continue to bang on the doors of Aisha's heart. However, let Fayose not allow the accusations by the APC Ekiti suggesting that the rumoured trip of Aisha has exposed him as a “man lacking in integrity to hold the responsible position of the governor of Ekiti State”.

APC spokesman, Taiwo Olatunbosun was reported to have said this on August 7 2016. Fayose should therefore take comfort in Alan Garner’s “The Weirdstone of Brisingamen”, saying, we learned that the deed is nothing. It is the thought that breeds fear; and we achieve little by lingering.

Consequently, Aisha achieved nothing by lingering on the USA trip.

Religion / Don’t Marginalise Any Region, Mbaka Tells Buhari by realglob(m): 2:28am On Aug 07, 2016
Enugu Catholic priest and Spiritual Director, Adoration Ministry, Enugu State, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, on Saturday, advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to marginalise any part of the country in the appointments made by his government.

While refuting the report that he attacked President Buhari, the cleric said he only offered suggestions to the President on how to tackle the current challenges in the country, which he said were caused by the actions and inactions of previous administrations in the country.

The appointments made by President Buhari, so far, are believed to be lopsided and in the favour of the northern part of the country.

Mbaka advised President Buhari to empower those that worked for him during the 2015 presidential election.

The statement partly read, “Fr. Mbaka advised the President to be careful about how he appoints people to prominent positions so that no region would appear marginalised, as it happened in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation board and charged the President to make sure that those around him do not mislead him.” He advised the President on human empowerment and asked him to ensure that those who worked for him during the election ought to be empowered.

“Fr. Mbaka merely reinstated the obvious suffering that Nigerians are facing and advised the President on the ways to tackle it, that is, by engaging economic gurus and by listening to good advisers.”For the purpose of clarity, granted that Fr. Mbaka stated the obvious – that there is hunger in the land – he never attributed the cause of the hunger and economic hardship bedevilling the nation to Buhari.

” Mbaka’s aide, in a move that suggested an attempt to mend fences between the cleric and the Presidency, added that the message in which Mbaka reportedly attacked Buhari was followed by another one where he blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party for mismanaging the economy.

Politics / 1,005 Kwara Pensioners Died Due To Unpaid Salaries by realglob(m): 1:53am On Aug 07, 2016
Stakeholders in the state, while decrying the death of the pensioners, described the trend as sad and unacceptable.

While urging relevant authorities to urgently effect the payment of the pension arrears to the senior citizens, Akanbi said no fewer than 3,000 of the pensioners were unable to buy drugs for their ailments.

Akanbi said, "We have suffered unprecedented discrimination since Ahmed came to power in the state. We are senior citizens and deserve fair treatment."The number of our members who have died is the greatest in comparison with any other sector in the state.

He blamed the drop in Federation Account allocations for the non-payment of the pensions, adding that the state government was considering strategies to assist them within its available resources.

It also said the N86m released to the leadership of the assembly for the purchase of computers for the biometric exercise in the state were never utilised, while insisting it was not part of the functions of the House to carry out biometric exercises.

The Chairman, Standing Committee on Public Petitions, Bills Review and Appraisal, Kester Ikyenge, while marking one year in office, during a constituency briefing at Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area, on Saturday, stressed that the assembly had no business embarking on an exercise for which it was not trained to carry out, adding that not a single computer had been purchased.

The police in Nasarawa State say two Chinese attached to West African Polaris Investment have been kidnapped in Agada village, Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer Ismail Noman told the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday in Lafia that, XJieng AI Jung, 50 and Wenso Ping, 45, were ambushed by unknown gunmen at about 2.28pm on the their way to Abuja.

He said that although the gunmen, wielding sophisticated weapons, were still at large, the police had begun investigation to track them.

According to him, security operatives in collaboration with vigilance groups, local hunters and community leaders have also been involved in the search.

"The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, has directed that the search operation team should do everything possible to ensure that the victims are rescued," he said.

Noman explained that the police had also increased stop and search activities across the state borders as part of security measures.

He called on the people of the state to be law-abiding, respect the constituted authority and report any suspected person in their domain to any nearest police station.

Politics / PDP Leaders Hasten To Pay Homage To Obasanjo by realglob(m): 10:53am On Aug 06, 2016
Leaders of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party rushed to pay homage to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abuja on Friday.

The former President was at Yar'Adua Centre to attend a programme on Agriculture while the PDP leaders were also at the same premises to attend the inauguration of the party's national convention.

The former President was a card-carrying member of the party until about two years ago when he tore his membership card.

Among those that were said to have rushed out to pay homage to the leader of the party included its National Chairman in charge of the National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi; the Secretary of the committee, Sen. Ben Obi and a former Deputy President of the Senate, Ibrahim Mantu.

The former President merely greeted briefly and proceeded to attend the programme he came for.

Leaders of the party had been visiting its aggrieved members with the aim of reconciling them with the now factionalised party but they had yet to visit the former President.

The Board of Trustees of the party visited former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja two days ago.

Foreign Affairs / Melania Trump Denies Violating US Immigration Laws by realglob(m): 12:22am On Aug 05, 2016
Melania Trump, the ex-model and third wife of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, denied reports Thursday that questioned whether she had worked illegally as an immigrant.

It is the third controversy about her in less than three weeks that the potential first lady or the Trump campaign has been forced to address as her husband inflames the political establishment with his divisive campaign for the White House.

"There has been a lot of inaccurate reporting and misinformation concerning my immigration status back in 1996," Melania Trump said in a statement Thursday.

"Any allegation to the contrary is simply untrue," said Melania Trump, who became a US citizen in 2006 - a year after she married the New York billionaire.

On July 18 she delivered a speech at the Republican National Convention that plagiarized a speech by First Lady Michelle Obama - a scandal initially dismissed as "Absurd" by the Trump campaign, but which they later admitted.

In recent interviews, Melania Trump herself did not claim that she had a degree, only that she had "Studied" design and architecture before dropping out to pursue a modeling career in Milan and later Paris.

After the New York Post published the racy pictures this week, the Trump campaign said the images were "Nothing to be embarrassed about" and "a celebration of the human body as art."

Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump’s Extremism Are Sickening, Says French President Hollande by realglob(m): 11:44pm On Aug 02, 2016
French President Francois Hollande on Tuesday slammed the "Excesses" of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as sickening.

"His excesses make you want to retch, even in the United States, especially when - as was Donald Trump's case - he speaks ill of a soldier, of the memory of a soldier," Hollande told journalists in Paris.

The French leader was referring to a feud between Trump and the Muslim parents of a slain US soldier, which has shaken the presidential campaign just three months before the November vote.

Hollande criticised Trump's "Hurtful and humiliating comments".

"Democracy is also at stake, as we see more and more people tempted by authoritarianism," he said, "Especially" in the United States.

"Should the American people choose Trump, there will be consequences, because a US election is a global election," he added.

Politics / Ngige Damned For Defending Buhari’s Appointments by realglob(m): 8:14pm On Aug 01, 2016
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, was booed while trying to defend President Muhammadu Buhari's appointments at a town hall meeting organised by the Federal Government for the South-East in Enugu on Monday.

The South-East is seen as the most marginalised zone in the appointments, so far.

Ngige was responding to criticism of Buhari's failure to appoint an Igbo as one of the service chiefs at the town hall meeting when he was booed.

South-East stakeholders at the event included leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, traditional rulers, members of the National Assembly, and some current and former political office holders, among others.

Ngige, responding to demands for the implementation recommendations of the last constitutional conference, said new states could not be created without the involvement of the National Assembly.

"If you want to amend the Constitution or to create more states you must pass through the National Assembly," he said.

"If tomorrow President Muhammadu Buhari says 'I want to do a constitutional conference', I can assure you that whatever you lobby and get in the conference will be implemented to the letter," Ngige added.

Crime / Two Feared Dead And Five Injured As Policeman Shoots Nasarawa Workers by realglob(m): 12:40am On Jul 30, 2016
Two workers of the Nasarawa State Civil Service were feared dead while five others sustained various degrees of injury when an officer of the Nasarawa State Police Command shot at protesting workers during a visit by the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress to the state.

He said the incident took place at the Nasarawa State Government House while the leadership of the organised labour was negotiating with the state government over the 50 per cent salary deduction of workers in the state.

He however called on workers in the state to remain calm and be law-abiding as the national leadership of the union would do everything possible to safeguard their rights.

Crime / Police Arraign Seven-year-old Boy Over Alleged Murder In Enugu by realglob(m): 12:31am On Jul 30, 2016
The police in Enugu on Friday arraigned a seven-year-old boy, Chibuike Miracle Oramalu, before a magistrate's court over alleged murder.

Chibuike accidentally fired the shot after discovering the gun in Oforma's room while making the bed, as he was instructed by Chukwunanu, Oforma's son.

The owner of the gun which Chibuike accidentally fired, Oforma, was arraigned alongside the seven-year-old boy before Magistrate Hillary Asogwa.

Omotayo explained afterwards that Chibuike's mother informed him that the police told her to bring the boy on Friday morning, only for the boy to be marched to court on their arrival at the Police Headquarters, Enugu.

Chibuike's mother, Nwakaego, while narrating how her son got involved in the alleged murder, had disclosed that on the fateful day, while she was away, the son of her employer, Chukwunanu, a National Youth Service Corps member, asked Chibuike and his 10-year-old elder brother, Ifeanyichukwu, to clean and tidy up his father's room.

Following Chibuike's detention, the lawyer, Omotayo, forwarded a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, demanding the boy's release, saying the boy's detention was "a brutal attack on the rights of the child in Nigeria" and "a very dangerous dimension to rights violations by the Nigeria Police."

Politics / Sheriff, Metuh In Court Today To Stop PDP Convention by realglob(m): 6:41am On Jul 28, 2016
The Ali Modu Sheriff-faction of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is to appear before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday to argue its application for an interlocutory injunction seeking to stop the party from going ahead with its planned national convention scheduled to hold on August 17.

The nine plaintiffs said they filed the suit numbered FHC/ABJ/CS/464/2016 for themselves and on behalf of the Executive Committee/National Working Committee of the PDP. They are Sheriff as the National Chairman; Prof. Wale Oladapo; Dennis Alonge-Niyi; Alhaji Bashir Maidugu; Mrs. Hanatu Ulam; Alhaji Lawa Dutsima Anchi; Chief Okey Nnadozie; and Chief Olia Metuh.

The suit has only the Independent National Electoral Commission and the PDP as the defendants.

They urged the court to declare all moves aimed at removing, replacing or conducting fresh elections into their offices as illegal, unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void.

The Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the party had on July 14 announced August 17 as the date for the party's national convention when election would be held to fill the positions of national officers of the PDP. The Sherriff faction therefore on July 20 filed an interlocutory application asking the court to stop the party from going ahead with the planned national convention pending the determination of their substantive suit.

The judge in granting the plaintiff's ex parte motion on Tuesday, held that ordinarily, a part-heard suit could not be heard during vacation without the consent of all parties, but he decided to give room for the hearing because of its urgency.

"It is deserving to be heard during the vacation by the judge nominated by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. But whether it will succeed is another issue entirely." Justice Abang then fixed Thursday for the hearing of the motion and directed that hearing notice be issued on the two defendants - INEC and the PDP..
