Machine counts would suffice in many jurisdictions, unless a manual recount is mandated.

Ballot marking devices were used across Georgia, USA during the 2020 elections.

This proved beneficial because it was both computerised (you marked on the computer), and you reviewed it on a paper ballot which is then scanned.

That's why former US President Trump insisted that ballots must be counted manually after claiming that the counting machine has been compromised. The electoral law anywhere in the world will not make counting machine the ultimate determinant in a democracy, it is manual counting and physical inspection that is the final.
