ProgrammingRelocate VS Start-up? I Have Decided To Establish A Start-up Here In Nigeria by realunclej(op): 6:09pm On Jul 04, 2022
Earlier I asked in this forum if I should relocate or establish a start-up based on my situation. I got a lot of genuine advise for both options. It was really an eye opener. You can read about it here https://www.nairaland.com/7181099/should-relocate-work-remotely-developer

First I want to thank all the people that shared their opinion:
airsaylongcome
Maclink288
bet9ja
LikeAking
truthsayer009 (special thanks)
motionarena
satandeterrible
Playermaywed
jackcanfield

These guys were awesome. After I carefully went through these feedback and putting other factors into consideration I decided to stage a start-up here in Nigeria.

I have come to the conclusion that if I get the start-up right, it can take me to any part of the world.

My resolution is:

1. To build a start-up that can scale globally
2. To build a start-up that can attract at least $2Million pre-seed investment
3. To start small and scale bigger in a short span
4. To launch my start-up in early 2023
5. To get all relevant licenses and legal backing

To begin, I plan to join the Founder Institute (https://fi.co/) Lagos Fall 2022 to accelerate my start-up and boost my chance of getting funded. Although the $399 application fee is a bit high.

I can also use all the help I can get. I want to assemble one of the best team in terms of the governing body, developers and staff.

I am currently looking for a few Nigerians who are experienced in the following fields to join my team:
1. Flutter Engineer (2 persons)
2. Python Backend Engineer (2 persons)
3. Node.js Backend Engineer (2 persons)
4. Senior React Engineer (3)
5. DevOps & Cloud Engineer (2 persons)
6. DevTools Engineer (1 person)
7. Database Engineer (2 persons)
8. UX/UI Designer (2 persons)
9. Frontend Engineer - API Design, API Publishing, Design System, API Client (2 persons)
10. Market Researcher (at least 1 person per community)
11. Web Research & Content Creator (1000 persons)

For some of the positions above, I will hire international consultants to complement the skills of the team. This will be for the duration of the project leading to the launching. For some of the tasks, I will make some financial remuneration that is reasonably acceptable based on the person's skill level. But since this is a project that has not kick-off, there is limit to the level I can pay. If you are interested just indicate below.

I will be sharing my progress in this thread as a guide to others who may want to follow this path.

I will also appreciate any feedback from those who have followed this journey.

Tech JobsWe Launch Our Project-driven Frontend Engineer Certification Training by realunclej(op): 5:15pm On Jul 04, 2022
GOOD NEWS!!! WE LAUNCH OUR PROJECT-DRIVEN FRONT-END ENGINEER CERTIFICATION TRAINING FOR 2022!

Do you know that as Frontend Engineer or Developer, you can kiss poverty bye-bye and start earning in Naira, Dollar and Pounds? Yes you can do so when you join our Project-Driven Frontend Engineer Certification Training with as low as N5000 Installment!

At the end of the program, you can join our inner circle team or work as a consultant freelancer or as a remote engineer with a foreign company or relocate to other country for work.

If you know your way around computer and you want to dive deeper into the world of web and app development, we've got your back.

Let me introduce you to a training program that will change your fortune in the digital world!

TRAINING METHODS
The training will be project-driven and you will be expected to complete a host of projects with their associated courses. There will be four types of projects you are expected to participate in as explained below. Also, there will be other sessions like live coding through zoom, error debugging, questions and answers with experts, team collaboration, online workshops and other training specs. Training to be handled by my humble self and other international consultants partners.

PROJECTS YOU WILL WORK ON
You will be expected to work on the following projects:

Milestone Projects: These are projects design for the learning journey of our students. After we open a milestone project for participation based on your progress, you can start taking the associated courses before completing the tasks. While we do not offer any financial incentive for completing milestone projects, they are a determinant in measuring your progress in the program and pre-qualifying students for progressing in the program, high paying tasks and jobs and participation in the other types of projects. There are currently about 10 milestone projects that will test your knowledge of using Git, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Typescript, Frontend Framework app security and cloud deployment.

Promotional Projects: These are optional projects designed to help students raise fund in the program to purchase needed tools to enhance their learning experience. You will receive financial remuneration depending on the nature of tasks or jobs you perform.

Internal Projects: You may be invited to participate in our own internal projects if you reach some milestone in your learning. This type of projects will expose you to some advance learning skills and increase your income potential. You may receive financial remuneration depending on the nature of tasks you perform.

Live Projects: You will be invited to participate in live projects based on techs we teach in this program to gain hand-on experience. These are clients projects and are subject to some terms of participation. You will receive financial remuneration for cash withdrawal or clearing of training installment balance.

WHAT WILL YOU DO AS A FRONT-END ENGINEER?
Front-end engineer also known as front-end developers, are in charge of creating dynamic websites using a programming language. They take care of the front-end part, i.e. the visual side of the site, unlike the back-end developer. A front-end developer’s missions typically entails:

>> Understanding the project they’re working on to develop the most satisfying features and interfaces for their client.
>> Implementing mockups with a keen eye for detail and rigorous standards.
>> Using best practices to structure HTML, CSS and Javascript code.
>> Using frameworks such as React to build powerful and modular applications.
>> Using tests to monitor their applications and ensure the highest quality service.
>> Providing technical and functional documentation of the site for their clients and colleagues.
>> Optimizing page load time.

WHY TAKE THIS TRAINING?
Developer jobs have been growing enormously in recent years. No longer reserved only for digital companies and for men, now all companies need JavaScript Developers for their website, internal tools, mobile apps for marketing, etc… And female developers are in high demand now! It's a job in constant change and that offers many openings to various jobs, some of which do not even exist yet. We are proud to offer this training path, accessible to all, opening the doors to the job of Front-End Developer.

Finish your nigerian projects to a satisfiable level, when you're done, go to the UK to gain more experience for a few years, then after that decide if you want to come back to Nigeria or not.
this is one of my line of thought. I felt if I launch a startup though I'll have to be available to nurture it. One of the business lesson I learnt from the late Sunny Ojeagbase is that any business idea I'm pursuing I can start small but always think global. So it's a principle that's guiding me. Any skill I'm learning or business I'm venturing to should be something I can take anywhere in the world even if I'm relocating. But the challenge is now to find a balance in product, services or skills I can be successful with locally and at the same time globally

It depends on what you are looking at, your cost of living might be higher out there, but your exposure might be better.
What you can do is to go visit your brother once in a while probably stay for 4 weeks, I think by the time you repeat this every five month you would know where you want to be... It is like looking at the crime section and looking at the programming section ... if you focus on each one only for four weeks you would have a different perspective to life.
that's a great perspective. And your illustration is on point

I'm almost in the same situation.
That's why I was hoping more people can contribute.

I work remotely and I'm being pressured by family to travel out but I don't really see why.
I live in a very highbrow area here in Nigeria and I live like a king.
Plentiful respect, girls throwing themselves at me, I always have my way with police.
Like, I have access to the best of best here in Nigeria.

I'm not really sure I'd want to give up all that just to live like an ordinary immigrant abroad.

I also have plans for a future startup here in Naija (I'm very afraid of failure tho. Startups here have a high failure rate.)

So you see, I'm as ambivalent as you are about this situation.
There are many things to consider that's why I'm taking my time. For instance there is war in Europe you never can tell what will happen any moment. I'm not really keen on living abroad but will prefer the freedom of traveling to any part of the world when I want at any given time. It's not an easy decision that's why I'm trying to sample opinion. I feel like once I relocate there is no looking back.

that's the point I'm trying to drive at. I know with my current skill level I can easily get engaged as a remote engineer. But I'm still taking some high paying job courses where you have less than 0.5% market supply. My approach would be to develop an application targeting Nigeria and Africa at large with these skills set and use it for my portfolio.

Based on this information, I would say stay in Nigeria and build your business because you are making more money than most devs in Nigeria already. Most people I know who relocate need a second passport.

If you really want a second passport, you can just acquire Citizenship by Investment in specific countries next year for $100,000 - $150,000. As you are already making money in big numbers. That money should be easy for you to get.
that's a huge info. Thanks
