I am surprised too. It is not compulsory for people to do long term. Everyone has his strategy. If you like to do short term, please you are welcome and if not, you are welcome too.

All of the companies that you mentioned will always give you that sign that they are going down, unfortunately the emotions you have in them can sometimes blind you to see clearly. Some people still believe that First bank will catch up with both Zenith and Gtbank very soon and they keep averaging down.
Godisfaithful:

That’s a good analysis sir. But how many companies can do that in NSE? Most of these top managements or directors attached to this company are heartless and don’t give a damn f...k about a common investors. This is not about newspaper/textbooks opinion, but reality check when you sit with them. My advice is for people to just make sure you protect your capital when you make a reasonable gain. Look at Japaul, PZ, Cadbury, BankPHB, Intercontinental, RtBriscoe, UACN, Oando, FbNh, and so on...the way they have destroyed long term investment horizon of some investors....unimaginable and sadden

when you buy into a well-run business. You do not need to pray and fast. Just give it the time it will always come good. Buy opportunities will always come and go. Zenith and Gtbank at the moment are well run business. The valuation the coronavirus has helped to give it is an opportunity. I can assure that 2 to 3 years if the management of both banks remained focus, the long term of the holdings will be positive. However, that does not mean you cannot exit if it doubles in price before your target. Book that capital gain.
aremso:

But why should i cos of 50kobo lose my capital join? Then will be praying and fasting for a yr whereas, those that bought when it was mark down will still make good money more than me.

Sometimes it is not that you wish to do Long term. You are compelled by factors beyond your control most of the times. You buy a stock for N1 and pronto the business is suddenly worth N5, you are not going to sell even at N3 because you know the worth. Or you bought at N1 and they pay a dividend of 50kobo and the price later dipped to 20k but because you know what you have bought is now worth N2 you will wait now.
Godisfaithful:

I wonder why anyone will do long term in unstable market like NSE...

Ohhhhhh. that is true.

Bros,

Scroll through Oracle's post and see all his posted. And they are all happening one by one. He mentioned this pullback of this week. Infact market was ripe for a pullback last week thursday/friday. The question is for how long. We go soon find out.

No one saw the pullback of this morning. If you have cash and you want to buy, please buy solid stocks and do not let all the cash is the king gang hold you down. Sow in the morning, afternoon, evening and night. you never will tell the one that will bring the best returns.
aremso:

No condition is permanent but in the market truth must be told, the other day a guy here was complaning bitterly that stock investment is a ponzi and i could remember before i joined this forum, i was averaging down my FBN from N14 to like around N5 later sold out of frustration. What has changed? our fx is going down daily corona is there or is it cos of the bail out package the developed economy gave to their own market? what has changed? brent not looking good presently in relation to our situation as a nation to me my capital is more precious to me than to be trapped.

UCAP traded for 1.79 just last year. Is it possible to trade at this level in the coming months? The possibility is very strong. However, companies will always devise new ways of making money. But like you have been told JIJO may surely set you back a bit but the dividend can help you to buy back later when the price crashes if it will because no one is sure that it will.

This one is going too. I wonder how much they will be paying minority shareholders to buy out and delist.
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 1:20pm On Mar 02, 2020
It is because the Coronavirus has now made Zenith Bank a candidate of N13. Zenith Bank is never a stock of N13. if we get to buy at this price, we will look for money and buy. if it gets to N10, we will buy more. We are not going to panic because NSE is losing points. Congratulations to those who are loaded in cash.
Godisfaithful:

You are absolutely right. Take for example, so many traders was rejoicing last night when the future opened green, but emotionally they went in with the hope that market will bounced back this morning...and presently market Dow is down already with 350 points. Emotions in stock market is a death sentence to your capital. If people can stay away from it, they will do better than expected. Why would I buy a stock of 13 Naira @25 because of dividend of 2+ Naira? That’s like 45% down in capital? This means one need More than 50% rise in price to break even not talking of profit....It is about facts over fantasy

The problem is because it is CHINA, the biggest economy in the world.

I really don't see what is ravaging about Covid19, with just about 2% mortality rate. It is not a death warrant for crying out loud. It's the media blowing it out of proportion.

Nigerian listed companies, the poorer the results the better the dividend, IT IS CALLED DIVIDEND TRAP.
Insiders buy plenty shares after poor q3 results when share price is heavily punished, later declare mouth watering dividend, then start to offload.
Forget about disclosure, If I am a board member and borrow Peterichy or Loco 500m as a friend to buy my company stock and we agree to share the loot later, will you ever hear about it? angry angry angry

But why do companies choose to behave like this? 1m units will return 10k dividend.

Not yet, it will be cheaper. Dividend of 1k declared will make it more affordable for those who are interested in the stock

Our Banks have not started to report challenges in the liquidity within the system as the Nigerian economy is still predominantly cash and carry market. The financial system in most advanced countries is credit-based and a little tweak in the cycle always distort the system.

We learnt not to play the market with borrowed funds ni ooo. If it is your money, why get afraid when you are sure of what you have bought. Zenith UBA, GTBANK, AFRICA PRUDENTIAL UCAP RED STAR, CUSTODIAN and many more will continue to make money in this market. they may dip at some times but in the long run we can only laugh

You sell at today's lowest and you wait endlessly to get in again and you will be forced to buy an alternative which will now put you more in a deeper hole. Just wait if you are holding a correct stock, no need to be fearful at all. Relax and buy more.
