Pleasing shareholders with dividend when the company is not doing well is a minus for any Board. But it is always a moral burden for the management who has earned nice salaries and allowances and yet refuses to reward their shareholders. So they are always compelled to pay dividend even if they have to borrow.
Mcy56:

What about UACN that still paid dividend despite their debts?
I will see what is pursuing me before I flee in this one, I've kept it for longer than I used to do. smiley
Investment / Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by rebekah2011(m): 11:02am On Mar 27, 2020
when you look at your finance cost to your earnings. You have to know what to do. Borrowing to pay dividend is just not a sensible thing to do. If you want to raise capital, paying dividend is also not the way to go. So my advice to Wapco really will be pay down on your debts and improve your liquidity ratio and make the company more profitable. Shareholders will enjoy in the long run
sellydion:
@rebekah, you always mention debts, which company does not have? Moreso how much at the end of q3 2019. tell sir grin

See reduction in OPEX. I am even expecting a buy back from WAPCO grin

Madam, with what is going on in the economy would not it be better if you align yourself with Tier 1 banks that their heads are correct. Not many will be able to withstand the shock of oil price and economy lull for the rest of the year. We may just see Fidelity, FCMB, Sterling go below N1 in 2020.
Mcy56:
FCMB still looks cheap to me at 1.50.
If the result is good like that of fidelity, it will close the gap btw them. I got small units at 1.43 during the panic.
About to go below 1.50 again, wouldn't be bad to pick some units below 1.50 for those interested..... that's if it goes below.

NB: Just my opinion and observation.

Special dividend would have been possible if the company is liquid in cash. The company still has debts and it will not be wise to go borrowing to pay dividend.
Mcy56:

Greetings BorSitL,
Thanks for this comment, the special dividend will be very good and highly welcome. grin

If you buy at today's price, the downside may not be that much. It will still rally after the release of the full-year I believe

I believe that Dangote's focus now is really on getting his refinery up and running. He has made good money in the Cement business. He can afford to keep the coy aside for now. there is a share buyback programme already in place. The more it drops the better for them to buy at a lower price and short change retail investors. The coy is also low in cash and still wants to pay 275b in dividend. I believe that buying at this price is not a bad decision. There is also an N16 dividend to benefit from. You may be lucky to get tidy units at N118. It is also going on a borrowing spree of over N300b.
Tabuse20:
Is Dangcem still a fundamentally sound stock? Man is worried here as I still am in that ship. House, kindly advise please.

I have refused to see the value in Lafarge Africa. Even their father Dangote Cement is struggling like no man business. For short play, it will be good I however doubt the long term position of the company.

Based on what sir?
What happened to the fundamentals?

UBA Group has donated part of our dividend to fight COVID on behalf of the shareholders.
safepaulooo:
AFRIPRUD, UCAP, UBA have refused to pay because they can't hold AGM due to COVID 19. This is money that would have alleviated people's suffering at this crucial time. Perhaps they selfishly want shareholders to sell their shares at current ridiculous low market prices, then they would buy up. GTB has shown their brain power by organising controlled AGM. This war is double-fronted, Tony and CO should do the needful - organize controlled AGM and pay the dividends as scheduled.

I don't even trade Brent sef, NYSE or EU. So where is the inside information? But I study body language of people to predict what their next move could be. I research past events to see what was done then and predict that it could be done now. It is not rocket science to do these and draw parallel from those events.

I tire for that oga.

I apologize if you see it this way. Never intended.

Insider information? Stop discrediting me.

I only make analysis and deduce from the chart I look at.

If you can't interpret charts, just sit and watch rather than say one has insider information.

Oga ONIFA is really a man with deep pockets. He is a man with sources in major financial markets. His market direction shows that he is a man with insider information.

Oga Chibu, don't mind my Oga OGG, you are doing very well. people should not get unnecessarily hysterical about their positions in the market as long as they have not sold. I do not believe that 2020 for most companies will be better than 2019 especially for the banks but the truth must be told stock prices are too cheap to ignore.
Chibuking81:

Mind the kind of word you are using. Do you think stocks will still not fall below it's current price? That mean you have not started. That I update the current happening do not mean that I have run away from the market, I still maintains that I still have stocks I have not sell, and will increase my investment once it they landed at my junction. At my junction some stocks will still fall, the worst is yet to come, or you are not following the current happening in the country?

Better still watch your word.

Good try, however why can’t this be done virtually. Companies in Europe and US doing it virtually don’t have two heads. I am right now working from home and I am even more productive than at the office......

I do not think Oga chibuking is creating fear in anyone. It is just that side one has to also look at when investing. The reality that is coming sooner or later points to the fact that Q1 and Q2 will be challenging for companies. Will the companies overcome these issues or challenges. Yes, some will and some may not be that lucky to recover asap. Zenith at N11 or Gtbank at N16.85? Can the prices get cheaper? It is likely and everyone must buy at this time to take advantage of these low prices everywhere. If I can buy zenith at N20 or Gtbank at N30 why should I be afraid to buy it at N11 or N17. All na average down joor.

The sad part for me is that CHAMS has no excuse not to have rewarded their shareholders because they got huge patronage from the FG.

In light of this coronavirus leading to the postponement of AGMs by coys that have declared dividend. The dividend payment will be delayed oooo until the AGM is held. I think coys may have to amend their article of association to recognise holding the AGM online to take care of situation like this. It will also save the company funds

Nope, they must have bought from someone divesting. The majority shareholder is stylishly increasing its stakes and I will not be surprised if the Bank is taken private someday.

PETERiCHY:

Most Nigerian CEOS are heartless criminals. This was a stock that was enlisted at N3 per share on Sept 2008 and they ONLY pay 8k dividend in 2009.

Now 11yrs down the lane they want to buy out investors at a paltry 35kobo per share.
