wristbangle: Excellent view ronald4lif. I feel when it comes to companionship with old friends, one should not neglect them totally. Even though they keep bothering you unnecessary for money and all that, just be blunt to them about how tough things are and the best you can do is take them out to a joint and spend what you can afford. Its surpusing how people like you think they can just sit at the back of their keyboards and type trash and think it makes alot of sense... from your post its obvious you have not stepped foot outside nigeria before.. nonsense.. |

wristbangle: Some Nigerians, when they return from abroad often display some nasty and childish habits when they return home, and these silly and childish attitudes are enlisted below;
1. Unnecessary use of foreign accent to intimidate local people
When some Nigerians living abroad return home, they begin to use these foreign accents to create unwanted scenes. They do this to show people that they are not of the same class. A times when you tell them, you can't understand their statement, they will say "Are u deaf"? The ones that annoy me most are those based in cotonou, Ghana, Uganda, china forming British accent. Honestly these ones need serious psychiatric evaluation.
2. High level of Pride
Living abroad is not a guarantee that one will be richer than Dangote or Mike Adenuga so why the overbloated ego? Some will even make it look like they're doing you a favour talking to you. This is common with the ladies.
3. Unnecessary show off
I know of some Nigerians who have lived their whole life abroad and are still able to be casual. But for some, they will wear socks and jacket under the intense sun and will be screaming to people's hearing that they regret coming to Nigeria.
4. They condemn our local dish
When a friend of mine returned from Canada, he told me to take him to a restaurant because he went hungry and I was elated he still has passion for our local dish. I took him to one fascinating local restaurant at Ibadan. When they served us pounded yam/egusi soup complimented with all sorts of assorted bush meats. Instead of eating the meal, he walked out from the restaurant telling me he couldn't eat that shiiit . Honestly, I was embarrassed by his comment.
5. They demand for undue Respect
Some of them are so proud that they will give you this proud look because they feel you want to beg pounds or dollars from them. I really don't blame them, after all it is what they experience often when they visit home as friends, family and even enemies want to benefit from their pocket.
6. Hotel becomes their home
I know most of them prefer lodging in a hotel because they are scared of mosquito bite, non availability of light and other negative factors in their parents' house. Though I wouldn't call this a silly act but I feel staying in your parents' house especially when located in the village will attract more parental blessing.
7. They neglect their old friends
This is common to some abroad based Nigerians. They tend to ignore the friends they left in Nigeria because they feel they have climbed the ladder of greatness. Last year, a very good friend of mine arrived from the UK and what surprised me most was that he refused to come to my house after a week of arrival. I used my church mind to go to his place and he started acting like I came to beg for money. This silly attitude of common with some of them.
8. They condemn our culture and values
It's a pity that some Nigerians are so engrossed with the westerner culture that they view African culture as being fetish and archaic when they returned home. For them to prostrate for elders and even their parents is like displaying stupidity act. This is nothing but outright nonsense. Stoopid post... |

nurey: I fell in love with bicycle during my service year in the North. It was an everyday thing for me cause I rode it to work instead of my car. It made a lot of sense. It is an extremely common transportation easing equipment in the north, most southwestern guys who saw me thought I was local, well I thought the same when I first arrived there.
Back in lagos, I miss riding bicycle but don't intend to anyway, lagos is rough, and traffic is always high, if you aren't careful, you could end up dead or miamed Yea i totally agree with you nurey. This is the reason why most folks wont be interested in this thread. Anyway my sister thought i should document this and thats why im putting it up on nl. I thought i need the full concentration for this project but hey, documenting it wont hurt..i used to also think folks who rode bikes were local especially women. I detested seeing them on bike or motor cycles. But i know better now...besides the weather is always too hot in nigeria fr bicycle rides. |

..first off, im dissembling the whole bike leaving it with just the frame as i plan to change the colour of the whole bike. Most of these screws were really tight especially the ones from the handlebar as ibcould imagine that after many years of use, they have not been unscrewed for once. I also had to flip it over because it was easier to get the job done.... the following went down..
1. Unscrewing of the additional handlebar and brake system.. 2. Losening the bicycle chair and main handle bar. 3. Unscrewing the tires. 4..losening the light and mud guard..
Basically at this stage everything in front has been taken off. The reason im doing this is that i plan to change the colour of the bike so i need a naked frame to do so...

Was never a great fan of bicycles until i spent a few number of years outside Africa. Anyway... i have great love for bicycles and it makrs commuting a bit easier especially when you have an electronic bike that goes as fast as 45km per hour with assisted riding. I have also seen some that go between 70-100km per hour but they are mostly illegal in most parts of the world and they are individually made by bicycle tuners and enthusiasts who install more powerful motors on their bikes.
Im not sure how popular e bikes are in nigeria but i got to admit these things are really expensive.. they range from (i would be using naira equivalent so we really dont talk about exchange rates) 350,000 to a whooping 5m (tufiakwa God forbid!). I tell you that even the cheap ones dont have much power to ride far. I went to meet a friend yesterday. He has a Stromer ST model which he got last year and he bought it for 2,278,000. I rode it a bit and it was super nice and it just gave me the conviction to say to myself... "okay you are not crazy for doing this and spending such amount of money on yours". His is a 35V 500W powered e bike.
Moving forward, i wanted to get a new bike to start the project with but later changed my mind because i would not be spending alot of money getting a used one then doing all the restoration on it..the main idea for ne was to just convert a normal bike to an e bike, then later it changed to putting it in super good taste with a few other features not found on conventional bikes...something more like a vintage gentleman's kind of bike with a motor assisted system. I used to think normal bicycles were expensive in naija until i saw ordinary bicycles that dont have motor assisted systems going for as high as 800k. Im like jisos...ordinary bicycles. When i was dreaming of owning a bicycle in naija it was always with a budget of 10k naira and if it was too expensive, 20k and that was max!
I would be posting pictures of my progress (except when i am mobile) and the estimated time for this project should be about 3 months considering the estimated time of parts delivery i would need. I guess its safe to leave this thread in car talk as there is no bicycle section or okada section (lol) and its a motorized wheel.. so im safe. If not mods abeg tell me before you comot my first comment o because i no copy and paste am somewhere else.. me i no get power to type all these things again from scratch.
Budget: 350,000 Bicycle price: 14,000.. (giveaway price!) |
