lol! You tried sha but your analysis is faulty. You wrongly assumed that MTN has been making N2.856tr on a yearly basis for the past 4 years. You also assumed that MTN active subscribers base has been the same for the past 4 years and each subscribers contributes equally to MTN revenue for the past 4years. Such kind of analysis cannot hold water anywhere in the world. Your analysis will only make sense if it is based on MTN profit (profit is different from revenue). jomoh: And some people keep defending MTN that the fine is outrageous. Calculate N238b x 12months= N2.856tr N2.856tr x 4years (from 2011 of the directive)= N8.568tr 40% mtn market share(estimate) x N8.568tr= N3427.2tr If they pay N1.4tr out of it is not too much. |

ddjay:Honestly, your comment is incredible. So you know that Mtn only has contract staff....unbelieveable! Which planet are you from? My advice to you is to stop displaying your ignorance on the Internet. |
Unfortunately I have read a lot of comments from Nigerians and it is obvious that they do not understand the dynamics of international business and the workings of NCC. This same MTN was fined about N2billion just a few weeks ago by NCC and they have paid. Granted the fact that MTN did not comply with NCC directives which they have cleverly linked to aiding kidnapping and terrorism in Nigeria, is it only MTN that did not comply with the directives of MTN? What about Glo, Airtel and Etisalat? It is only gullible people that will believe NCC and everything that they read on the news media. Below are some facts: 1. MTN has been increasingly targeted by NCC to lose their subscribers base having being declared as the dominant operator in the telecom sector. 2. MTN has sold its base stations and can easily disinvest from Nigeria; contrary to what some people think, Nigeria will lose here as foreign investors will be compel to take their investment to other countries. 3. MTN has a strict policy of not giving bribes and as such will always want to comply with the laws of any country they operate in. It is laughable for NCC to claim that MTN is evading tax when their record of paying tax is in the public domain. 4. If MTN decides to leave Nigeria, it will definitely result in surge in unemployment rate in the country as a lot of people will lose their primary source of income. The latter will affect those directly and indirectly employed by them. 5. Of all the telecom operators in Nigeria, MTN has the best record of giving back to the community they operate in via its Foundation. 6. Globally, regulators in any industry do not aimed at crippling the operations of an operator through dubious and unreasonable sanction. 7. MTN never said that they will not or do not want to comply with NCC directives, they gave reasons why it will be difficult to comply with NCC directives within the timelines given and asked for more time. Personally, I think the latter is reasonable given their huge subscribers base compared with other telecom operators. 8. What is the annual revenue(not profit) of MTN? What is the budget of Nigeria for 2015? For those saying that it is now payback time for Mtn for ripping them all these years, I am indeed sorry for their line of thinking as there is no justification for penalizing a company $5.2billion, an amount they cannot earn as revenue in 3 financial years. The action of NCC is embarrassing and pathetic as it has indeed shown to foreign investors how unfriendly the Nigeria business environment is. The issue here is not the deduction Mtn has been deducting from your phone account, neither is it about the quality of their network but rather on whether the penalty impose on them is reasonable. Let's be honest with ourselves for once, if you are one of the owner of Mtn, would you be willing to pay the $5.2billion fine given the fact that you cannot earn that amount in the next 3years? Personally, I will not think twice of counting my lose and selling the company. Let's be wise! |

@Gbawe; why not tell us what you would do to improve the economy of Nigeria if you become the President. I have seen several of your comments on this forum and I am amazed at the way you insult people that have a different opinion from yours. So please tell us what you would do to improve the economy of Nigeria if you happen to be the President. |
Hello, please send your price list to me @ chuko1779@gmail.com |
Seriously you guys need to slow down! Any little thing you start saying MTN is this and bla bla.... Guess what; the reason for BB service not working is not because of power outage but rather fiber cut along Lekki axis(and by the way fiber cut is mostly caused by road construction or outright vandalism by unknown persons and depending on the severity, it may take up to or more than 24 hours for it to be resolved). Yes, MTN service has been poor of late but must you come here and talk trash all the time? I am aware that other telecom operators are also having issues with their services so why the so much hatred towards MTN? Even the almighty NCC; the telecom regulator and other government agencies sanction and fees levied against MTN is always discriminating compare with other operators. So why the hatred? Time will tell and before you say "do you work for them" read my lip if you can. |
[quote author=Obiagelli]What are you saying, you think I posted this to mock nigeria or what Bro you ain't more patriotic than I am, I weep inside of me when I see how other nations have utilised their wealth and resources to better the lives of their people. Do you know that nigeria was rated above India, China, Singapore, South Korea and so on in the past? You need to see latest rankings and where our dear nation is placed. @post; It's either that you are being mischievous with your post or you are not very good at doing comparative analysis! Yes, Nigeria has its problems but when you are doing analysis of countries, there is what is called peer analysis which your pictorial and selected countries missed. In essence you cannot compare Nigeria with Qatar! Or does it make sense to compare apple vs orange even though they are both fruits? |

donchris999: Damn! What a foo.lish post. The most st.upid and idi.otic post of the century. Illiteracy at its peak, that is why naija is a jungle. Nonsense. What a dumb statement by Texaco1! |
Interesting topic! For more information on Risk management education, visit www.theirm.org; their program is more robust. |
@Topic: Firstly, the poster assumed that it was tithe less church running expenses that was use to build the school; this may be wrong. Secondly, I believe that a man of God that is led by God's spirit should depend on the leading of God's spirit to know what to do with any excess income of the church. Thirdly, @tithe; am always amuse at the excuse people give for not paying tithe. Tithing is not based on the old testament i.e. the law given to Moses. Infact if you are a student of the bible and your allow the holy spirit to guide you in understanding scriptures, you will discover that the revelation of tithing came before the Mosiac law and is for our benefit as christians. Giving your tithe to help someone no matter how nice it may sound is wrong. Is it right to give what is holy to anyone? Revelation of tithe based on the bible is in Genesis14:20 (before the law came into existence); the fact that this was in the old testament section of the bible does not make it part of the law. Scriptures reference to Melchisedec as mentioned in Genesis 14:20 are: Hebrew 5:6, 20; Hebrew7: 1-5. In summation, it pays to walk by faith not by sight (i.e. by sense knowledge). |

It is indeed very difficult to please Lagosians! Is the ban on 2years rent good? Emphatically YES! It is only greedy landlords and the ill informed that may think otherwise. Come to think of it, why should a Landlord collect 2years rent from new tenants and 1year rent from existing tenants for his property (new or old) that remains permanently his own? In my own opinion, the only logical reasons would be to liquidate the loan he took to the build the house or greediness. Agreed that the state government ought to do something about solving the housing problems in Lagos state; at least passing a law banning rent of 1year and above is a step in the right direction. What we need to do is to watch out for greedy landlords that would want to increase the rent of their property based on this new law. The truth is that if we all stick together and refuse to dance to the tune of landlords they will of necessity abide with the new law. For the record, there are some landlords in this country that collect rent on a monthly basis (my brother actually pays rent for his 2bedroom flat in Delta state on a monthly basis), so what are we saying? |
