'JOURNALIST ARRESTED IN UYO, FLOWN TO ABUJA OVER FACEBOOK POST

A young man by name Jerry Edoho, a Journalist and Deputy Editor of the Ibom Nation Newspaper, from Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State sighted me at the Ibom International Airport, Uyo some minutes ago and alerted me that he is being taken forcefully to Abuja by a team of plain cloth security men over a publication on Facebook.

He told me that he was tagged in a post about the recent rumoured crash of a Dana plane which was false. That upon being tagged, he made a post like several other Nigerians asking whether the crash report was true. The security men are conveying him to Abuja via a Dana flight that is scheduled to depart by 4 pm.

The security men confronted me for speaking with him "without their permission". I retorted that Mr. Edoho is a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that his right to freedom of expression cannot be taken away. This resulted in an altercation between me and the security men whose identify I cannot immediately ascertain. I understand that his arrest followed a petition by Dana Air to the Nigeria Police Force.

I am using this platform to urge both the police and the management of Dana Air to respect the fundamental rights of Mr. Edoho. He should be released on bail pending the conclusion of investigation into whatever allegations that have been made against him.

This is a democracy, not a dictatorship.

Less than two weeks after the reopening of roads leading to Northern Borno state, Mrs. Aisha Buhari represented by Senator Abubakar Kyari and other members of the Wife of The Presidents Committee on Distribution of Relief Items, distributed relief items to internally displaced persons (IDPs) who returned to their communities in NGANZAI and MONGUNO Local Government areas of the state.

400 households of displaced women in each of the two council areas benefited from the distribution exercise earlier this week.

Each beneficiary received a bag of rice, masavita, semovita, cartons of detergents, milk, action meals, blankets, among other items.

In the past months women from Kaga, Magumeri, Mafa, Dikwa, Askira Uba, Gwoza, Gubio and other local government areas in the state had already benefitted from the exercise.

His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR together with His Excellency Governor Kashim Shettima and His Excellency Governor M.A Abubakar paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Governor, Samuel Ortom of Benue state in Makurdi today.

The Governors are in Makurdi the capital of Benue state as part of efforts to strengthen national unity, to also commiserate with Benue state government on the Fulani - Tiv clashes and to rejoice with the new Tor Tiv Prof James Ayatse.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his counterparts from Bauchi and Borno states were also decorated with Tiv traditional regalia during their One-day official visit to Benue state.

Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki on Tuesday pledged that the Nigerian Senate, upon resumption, will look into the crises that have led to the wanton loss of lives and property in the Southern part of Kaduna State, in recent times.
The Senate President made this known while responding to the cry of a concerned Nigerian on Twitter on Monday, according to a statement by his Special Assistant on New Media, Bamikole Omisore, in Abuja.

A twitter user, Chimeze Okoro Ukoha had tweeted: “at Bukolasaraki About 800 Christians massacred in Kaduna and nobody is talking about that. VERY BAD,” the concerned Nigerian told Saraki.
In his response, Saraki said: “Once at NGRSenate resumes, this issue will be addressed to get a clearer picture of what the real situation is and find a lasting solution.”

Saraki went further by also tweeting: "Every Nigerian life matters, and at ngrsenate will work to ensure that rule of law is always upheld as prescribed by Nigerian Constitution."
The killings in Southern Kaduna have continued to generate reactions from various quarters, especially among the masses.

Many have questioned why the killings have continued despite the security measures put in place by the Kaduna State Government. A lot of Nigerians have also appealed to the Federal Government to nip the ugly trend in the bud.
Special Assistant on New Media to the Senate President, Bamikole Omisore, said the Senate President is in touch with Senators from that state and constantly getting updates on developments even though the Senate is on recess

It is not easy been a soldier!
We have cloth in our wardrobes but the nature of the job leaves no chance to wear them!
Patrol and escort both in the summer and winter
dressing combatantly everyday like an astonaut
while others are asleep we are awake.
While you drink table water and beverages in your homes, we manage water in the jungle
we do this just to suppress terrorism!
You lay on beds at night while we lay on tents and trench.
While you think of how to embazzle funds we think of how to attack external forces!
It is a work to God and humanity.
