Iwo people are easy going but dem get juju sha.
Iwo no too get juju, they are one of the earliest Muslims and are predominantly Muslims, most of their power is tira (Quran scripts), their easy life too is derived from their religious inclination.

Do not get hooked to state name. The kind of Yoruba spoken by people from Iwo Osogbo EJigbo Ogbomoso area is same with one spoken in Oyo Alafin, so they are regarded as Oyo people, It is he only one close to written Yoruba also.

Don't know about his father, I think his parents lived in Ogun state but he was born in Ibadan; His dad was a teacher and his mom, Yeyeoba of Ijebuland -- or so I heard; they had a sawmill business there. I learnt he also was a cab driver in the United States when he studied back here. But his mom, I know for sure, is from Gbongan. There's even a street in Gbongan named after the Adenuga Family. Wale and Michael Adenuga have a great relationship and are related. So if his dad's claiming Ogun State, then I'd start to wonder. Just like OBJ is originally from Owu but his father fled for whatever reason I can't tell except that it had something to do with monarch or so.
@Seekers, Owu and Ijaye people of Abeokuta were displaced after some wars as result of rebellions against the then Alafin, not OBJ father, the whole town was sacked and the Egba accepted them, that is where the name Egba came from, they accepted anyone.

The ancient Owu is close to present Apomu and the remains of Ijaye is along Oyo  - Ibadan raod. If you ever heard of Kurumi, he was the leader of the Ijayes during the war. Prince Bola Ajibola is one prominent Owu. The incident dated back almost 200 years so Obj's grand dad may have been born in Abeokuta too.

@amosexy, not exactly, the entire state is not Yoruba, only the partthat border Ekiti, Kwara and Osun, they are other tribes like Agatu where Mercy Johnson caame from, Ebira etc. As a matter of fact only Oyo and Osun have complete Yoruba populations others are mixed, Ondo has some Ijaws, Ekiti have some Edos, Lagos have the Ogu (Egun) same for Ogun State. Southern Kwara like Offa, Erin, Oro Ajase are Yoruba. Moremi was a native of Offa in Kwara.

OK here goes Ibkaye. Fulani, I want to believe are part of the Hausas. Why do they have to beat up suitors for their daughters just in the name of performing marriage rites? Why do fulanis sleep with their own family? Brother sleeping with sisters, etc.,? In a part of Bauchi state -- if I'm right-- a man uses his wife as a welcome package to entertain his friend. He lets his friend sleep with his wife as a form of welcoming him to his house -- a long time friend he's seen in a long time that. I need explanations to these please if you know. All of them are known facts to the best of my knowledge, I just want to know why they are done.
It just their culture simple and shikena, why do Yoruba tell the husband to leave the house before the wife is brought in, and Ibo girl carry drink in the public to identify her husband that everyone has know.  Fulani do not sleep with their sisters but are allowed to marry cousins, it is part of Arabic cum Islamic culture. It is Benue that they say the Tivs, entertain visitors with their wives and it is one one of the reasons people think make them have highest AIDS cases in the country.

How far back are we talking about here? Wasnt Ekiti created less than 20 years ago?

I'm still waiting for an EKITI to tell me why Goddess Osun is being "worshipped" in Ekiti or what she did for Ekiti .

I don't get the whole history behind it. undecided

hmmm, care to elaborate on that?
Osun is river goddess in Yoruba land they believe it could make women fertile, most Yoruba have the same origin in Ile Ife before spreading out so all took their believe with them, including those slaves in the Americas. (North and South). Ekiti hosted many of the dieties in those days too, like Ogun lived in Ire for so long that they call him Ogun Onire, also Orunmila lived in Ado for quite a time that they say Ado ni ile ifa.
