@gen2genius, 1. Jesus, asked his disciples to sell their garments to buy swords, what do you use sword for, peel eggs? 2. During his arrest it was recorded that Peter cut off the ear of one the soldiers and Jesus healed him, if it was never needed or used why did he have the sword with him? 3. What is the origin and the meaning of the word "Crusade"? |
@ NL Surprise will never end. Riot is a northerner, poverty is a northerner, illetrate is a northerner, Niger Delter issue is a northerner, defeat of Biafra is a northerner, boko haram is a northerner, mai tatsine is a northerner, marginalisatn of Igbo is a northerner. why why why why why north?? But yet they are ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit)of Nigeria.
Yes, the South especialy the South South and South East are suffering from serious "Afganistanism", a condition where one refused to deal with local source of problem and believe all his problems are caused by far, foreign and remote people. If the Southern leaders are so weak and could not influence anything and not responsible for anything good or bad, why not remove all of them and hire the all powerful Northners to represent the South also. lol. |
@gen2genius, could you please provide evidence of Mohammed killing people who refused to accept Islam during his life time. Historically Muslims were in minority when Mohammed stated his teaching in Mecca, and they were so tormented by the Mecca pagans that they have to flee to Abyssinia and later to Medina. Even in Medina there were non Muslims (Christians and Jews) during the Islamic rule of Mohammed and the Califs after him, history had it that they were protected and did not participate in the wars. All the four wars fought during his life time were waged at locations close to Medina, If you could look at the map of Saudi Arabia you would see that Mecca pagans had to travel almost 400 miles to wage war against Muslims in Medina all in teir despiration to destroy the religion of Islam. Muslims were only defending themselves. As matter of fact Islam spread from Saudi Arabia to as far as Spain and North Africa due to fair and honest trading techniques and peaceful dispositions of Muslim not by war. Jihad does not mean war, it means striving to correct unjust situation and the best Jihad is against yourself, that is making sure that one does not engage in unjust and un Godly dealings. Most of the killing going on today have political undertone and one should not be covered with religious sentiment when discussing it. You can not tell tell me that all the soldiers and police that fought against boko harram sect were non Muslims. The Americans fighting in Middle East have their command center in Qatar, Qatar is an Islamic country. Till today there are non Muslim Arabs, they have not been beheadedn Doha, Christians go to Church on Friday or Saturday because the week starts on Sunday and they are not harassed. Please let be objective andand openminded in our discussions. |

Partners should have some understanding of each other before proposing to marry each other, so in my opinion the dowry becomes too much when the bride knowingly asked for the groom would not be able to afford. |

@tpia, amosexy et al, Ikale are full blooded Yorubas, their dialects like other Yorubas like Igbomina, Ijebu, Ekiti, Ife, Akoko, Egba, etc are unique to the extent that if visit some homes with your Ijebu, Ife, Igbomina or Ekiti friends they would be speaking the dialect and you would not understand. Like I said before only Oyo dialect mainly spoken in central part of Oyo and Osun States could not be hidden from others. Maybe it is because this the form that is closest to written Yoruba. Ijaws and Itshekiris have historical links with Yorubas, Itshekiri sounds very close to Ijebu and their is Ijaw compound in Ile Ife. Itshekiris have names like Omagbemi, Omasheyin, etc, counts , Okan, meji, meta, meren , good night is odejuma, etc. I remember as a Youth Corps member in Rivers State during the orientation, one speaker told us that Ijaws originated from Ife but being fishermen they were always away and eventually settled at riverines area. |

@tpia, yes, giving traditional names depends on the family and sometimes religious awareness, I have an aunt who never had single child, she either had twins or triplets, so all the Idowus and Alabas are Taiye and Kehindes on their own. On another hand, Muslims shave new born head hair before naming on the 7th or 8th day as the case maybe so if a Dada is born they may not name him or allow hair to grow like others who believe strongly in traditional names. |
Swit D, I have an offer you can not refuse, but tell me what are you first ![]() |
![]() they dont actually mean anything. They're just applied at birth based on the child's presentation. another one: Oni which is given to a baby still wrapped in the placental sack or what do they call the covering.
@tpia, names both of persons and objects do not necessarily have meaning, that is the part of essence of dictionary, for example what is the meaning of water, table , road, car, I mean how do they relate to their meaning if you do not speak English. Some names are derived from action or sound they make like what linguists call onomatopoeia while others are descriptive, So names like Ojo, Ajayi, Ige, Oke, etc may not have comprehensible meaning but those who give then know who to give when they are born. |
