That's true.
But Ogun State is evidence that Nigeria could even have the third largest GDP in the world due to massive industrialization and export and 70% of Nigeria would still be slum. Or how can you explain that Ogun is the most industrialized state in Nigeria, but the capital city is an eyesore due to lack of city planning?? You'll see open gutters, mud/brown-roof houses mixed up with skyscrapers.
If the capital can be that bad imagine what the remaining parts of the state would look like. Nigeria, we need to do better!

How would you say that naira didn't really lose value, when prices of commodities have skyrocketed by as much as 400%?? Even countries such as UK and Kuwait whose currencies are more valuable than the US dollar, they still need to convert their GDP to dollar, for them to know the true state of their GDP in comparison to other countries' GDP. So why should Nigeria rely on paperweight naira to say its GDP has gone up?? Edited. |

LegendHero: *In the real sense The government policy just shifted and rather than blow the FX to defend the naira, we choose to allow it to find its level with little intervention. If GDP is gross total of goods and services produced in a country, can you tell me the goods we produce that will suddenly make our GDP triple in value if Tinubu defend naira tomorrow just like his predecessors? Don't mind them, you're the most intelligent person on Nairaland. Just advice the govt to further devalue naira so that $1 can exchange for ₦15000, a crate of egg cost ₦70k and our GDP will further 'tentriple' in naira. |

For years, people have been alleging that Nairaland is a toxic place where people insult each other and exhibit uncontrolled tribal bigotry. So after my last thread, we decided to follow through by extending the mandate of our anti-spam bot to include dealing with toxicity. Unfortunately, the roll out wasn't smooth: many innocent members were unjustly banned. We apologize profusely for this. We will keep tweaking the bot to make it more accurate. Meanwhile, please reach out to the mods and supermods if you are unjustly banned. Hit me with your suggestions and complaints. The suggestions you never implement?? You know bots CAN'T do this thing. Even social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter with more than a billion users have human moderators that work on removing posts. So why should Nairaland not hire humans to do the same, instead of relying on bots that could malfunction very horribly on false positives and false negatives. |

Politics › Re: Benue Killings: It’s A Plot To Grab Land — Gov. Alia Of Benue State by RenaissanceGuy: 6:53pm On Apr 19, 2025 |
BabaIbo: You are igno rant and proud. I am not making any excuses, I am only telling you the truth about why it happens, it may not be the reason for all the cases but it is one of the major reasons. Before you start any marriage plan or process or get married in Catholic Church, you must provide evidence that the two families(that of the man and that of the woman) involved agreed/consented to it, i.e you must have done or carried out the traditional marriage.
And people believe that once you have done the traditional marriage, both of them are already married, what is now left for them is to solemnize or bless their union.
Don't be silly, I already gave an instance using protestant churches where it is easy to make plans on that(both traditional and church) and it works out within days, but that is not always the case in Catholic Church where you are expected to go for a marriage class for 3 months or more depending on the diocese, do banns of marriage for 3 weeks, do the local government stuff(for government recognition i.e certificate) for 21 days, not considering days that are in-between.
Many people want to have both their traditional marriage and church wedding on the same day or within the same time(difference of few days) but due to hurdles one needs to cross in getting married in Catholic Church, some will proceed with traditional marriage and then later do their church wedding when they must have meet up with the requirements.
If you can reason properly and be honest with yourself, you will see why many times, the woman would have taken in before the couples eventually gets to marry in the Catholic church.
Or you expect the man who is already married to be playing games outside because he doesn't want his wife to get pregnant before church wedding? You're still bent on defending the indefensible. Just weeks ago, two neighbours of mine were discussing about a Catholic priest who always instructs intending couples to take in before the wedding, to avoid what he calls "inability to conceive after the wedding". And this is not a lone case, almost every catholic bride sleeps with man throughout the relationship and then tops it by taking in months to the wedding. Whereas in many protestant churches, pregnancy test is conducted days before the wedding and if the bride is found to be positive, the wedding is called off. And if there are also evidence that the couple - to-be are already sleeping with each other, their weddings could be delayed heavily or even outrightly cancelled whilst they serve other punishments. Catholics don't see premarital sex as anything. |
Politics › Re: Benue Killings: It’s A Plot To Grab Land — Gov. Alia Of Benue State by RenaissanceGuy: 8:28am On Apr 19, 2025 |
BabaIbo: You need wisdom.
It is called holy solemnization of a marriage, a marriage is already existing, it is the blessing of solemnization that is being done.
The foundational marriage is the traditional marriage, and the church or any other form of marriage exists on traditional marriage.
That alone should tell you that once traditional marriage has been done, a union has been created and going to church for a marriage is to solemnize or bless it.
There are times due to church requirements, maybe with time, maybe with marriage classes etc, one won't be able to hold both traditional and church marriages together even when they really wish to and once traditional marriage has been done by them, a union has been created, use your head to find out/calculate what now lead to seeing some people pregnant during their church wedding.
You are talking as if you won't touch your wife once you have done the needful on her traditionally but due to your church requirements or doctrines or ways, they did not allow you to have the church marriage as at the same time with the traditional marriage. So you go leave your wife untouched? Check those protestant churches, it is rare because their church doctrines are flexible or easy to maneuver. Stop giving excuses for evil. We all know most traditional rites take place days or weeks before the church ceremonies. So, is it the weeks that translate to the brides being heavily pregnant?? |
