My generator splashes oil from the carburator side often stain the tyre that the generator sit
on and the underneath of the gen

Seems the oil in genset sump is too much. Guage it with its dip stick as you remove excess oil.

Pls why is it that some of this modern new make generator are so loud and noising.

One reason is because recent silencer designs are optimised to save material cost at the expense of a little additional noise discomfort.

what is an air filter and how do I clean it

Air filters ensure that the air needed for combustion in your engine is free from debris. It is located at the entrance of your carburettor. You can clean it by soaking it in fuel and squeezing out to dry state before reuse. Remember to clean during every genset service.

House please help o.

My luthian that's been working perfectly just refused to give light today after I switched it on!
Gave light for about 3 seconds and went out but the gen was still running!!!

A week ago,I mistakenly switched the gen on with my freezer connected to my 2000 stabilizer for about 7 minutes before I noticed it. Nothing happened and I quickly switched the stabilizer off.
The gen has been working fine till earlier today it didn't supply power.
Please what do I do?
Gurus around please help.

Possible issues to check :
1. Loose or broken supply cable
2. Faulty or tripped overload switch
3. Damaged AVR
4. Damaged Coil.

My tiger generator runs normally for some 1 or 2 hours , after a while it increases to a very high voltage causing damage to my charger.

Your current caburattor valves are not allowing controlled air inflow into the engine because of wear. Replace the carburettor.

Guys, Is it normal for a 10000 VA stabilizer to be stuck on delay mode when there is low current?

Yes, If the mains voltage is very low and below it's designed unsafe value, the stabilizer will not supply output. This is because it's output voltage will not be stepped up enough to a safe value.

Please I just got a used 2.5kva generator. The mechanic recommended a Forte heavy duty SAE 40 oil.

After exhausting, can't find the oil any longer. Please what brand do u switch to?

And was the SAE 40 a good recommendation?

No, using the SAE 40 wasn't a good recommendation because SAE 40 is what is called a “straight-weight” motor oil. Its viscosity (resistance to flow) declines with increasing temperature, in accordance with the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) specification for a 40-weight oil.

Your choice should be SAE 20W-50 is an oil containing compounds called “viscosity index improvers,” generally long-chain molecules that curl up at low temperatures but stretch out at higher temperatures, such that the oil has a viscosity characteristic of a 20-weight oil at the lower test temperature (IIRC, 100 degrees F) but that of a 50-weight oil at the upper test temperature (IIRC, about 200 degrees F). 20W-50 is just one of many so-called “multi-vis” specifications; the viscosities of multi-vis oils decline with temperature, but not as rapidly as a straight-weight.

Good day all, i have a Captain thermocool gen with 2.0kva rating, recently on the digital display, when i start it and put it on, it shows the voltage as 169-179volts, then after running for like 10 mins, it normalizes to 223-230 volts on the display, and other times, it shows 223-230 volts instantly , but the lower voltage reoccurs more than the normal voltage.

please what could be wrong? it still runs fine by the ay and i use to pump water twice a week.

Your AVR is failing. Budget for a replacement.

The valve surfaces on your carburettor are worn thus restricting its free movement with air inflow.
Replace the carburettor with a new one.

Check out earlier discussions on the reasons for this oil-fuel ratio for better understanding.

Okay bro. Thanks. But the generator indicates 50:1?
Technology Market / Re: ABC Of Tiger Generator ( I Pass My Neighbour) by RepairZone: 5:24pm On Aug 25, 2022
Replace the cooling plastic. The plastic prevents over heating by directing cooling air over the engine fins. Also ensure the fuel oil ratio is 50:2. That is 2cups of oil.

Hi bro, I'm having a long time issue with my small Tiger generator TG 950M. The issue is that the generator goes off by itself after working for about two hours. If I try putting it on once again, it may not power on, or may work for only thirty minutes. I've changed the carburetor several times but no changes.

Please what could be wrong?

The correct ratio of oil is 1:50 in litres. This is if the generator is the original Yamaha engine type. I have this type for about 10 years.

@mrrandomguy you are right however, an oil ratio of 2:50 in litres guarantees a good performance of your engine .... whatever quality you have.

Good afternoon Engineers and enthusiasts in the building.
I bought two small generatorrs. The first one is the thermocool junior gen( 1.2kva or so) to relieve my big gen at home and also in consideration of fuel and rising expenses. This is one is working fine with no hitch.
I also bought a small lutian generator ( 1.2kva). For offlce assist. The first time I put it on, it worked for about an hour and half and went off. The next time it worked for around 30 minutes and went off
Pls what could be wrong
The oil gauge is at the middle level of the dipstick ( I checked now), could that be the problem?
Pls come to my aid

Replace the spark plug

Tip 24: Common Problems and Solutions

Genset stops with loud noise and smoke escape from armature coil compartment.

*When this happens, you will notice a loss of compression pressure if you drag the starter coil rope. The sound will also be different. Starting the genset again would be difficult.
*The solution lies in replacement of the oil seal of the armature coil compartment.
*Ensure you apply glue to the oil seal slot and tight fit appropriately in order to prevent slippage due to pressure.
*Recouple genset and its back to normal operation.

Hello sir.
I recently changed the oil of my generator from total quartz which I was using to total classics and when I put it on it made a load uncontrollable noice then I turned it off. I want to know if it's the oil that cais d it or there's something else. thanks sir

I don't think it's the oil change. However, maintain your previous oil brand. Investigate the source of the loud strange sound.

Please my gen is supposed to be serviced every month or after 50 hours of use.
My question is: What if I don't use it for up to 50 hours in a month, do I still have to service it?
Thank you!

No you do not have to service it if the 50hr run duration has not been reached.

Good day Gen_Masters in the house, please I am looking to buy a new generator for my mum. The most demanding thing she needs to power is a submersible pumping machine 1.5hp for water. I have checked Jumia and I see products like Elepaq (yellow and red variant) with Luthian which sparked my interest. From the specifications, they are 100 percent copper coil which I think is a good thing.

I would like to ask which product and model I should go for when considering fuel efficiency, durability, load capacity and affordability. (Wondering if a 3.5kva or 4.5kva is sufficient)

Using a 3.5kva will be better because it will consume lesser fuel than the 4.5kva

Tip 23: Common Problems and Solutions

Recoiled Armature not producing full voltage on load.

*Having recoiled your faulty armature and you notice a drop in voltage generated on load, the best thing to do is to increase the value of the capacitor slightly.
*This can be done by using a higher value capacitor or adding in parallel, another capacitor to the existing one.
*This increased capacitance will in turn improve the starter coil current which will in turn increase the rotor induced current and thus ensure the armature voltage is increased.
*Adjust the speed of your genset to align with correct voltage on load.

Good morning Professionals in the house.
Please my "better pass neighbour gen exhaust has 3 opening, will it increase the fuel consumption? Originally, it was 1 opening until recently when part of the exhaust fell off opening two more holes.

Yes your genset will consume slightly more fuel since there would be lesser back pressure and the noise generated will be louder too. It's advisable to close the extra holes.

Damaged Rotor Coil Bearing.

*You are advised to use a bearing puller to remove this 6203 bearing from the coil shaft.
*Replace with same part no. and use a rubber mallet to refit back to shaft.
*Ensure you note the position of the bearing pin when coupling the end case cover to align accordingly.

How many hours does the fuel last on full tank for 3ceiling fans, two energy saving bulbs, one home theatre and a 42" LED TV?

For this load specified, the generator should run for a minimum of 7hrs.

Great engineers,

My TEC 3.5 KVA generator just started givimg sign as if there is no fuel after 10 minutes of usage. Turns out fuel does not flow from the fuel valve to the carburettor but if you remove the part of the hose connected to the carburettor, fuel starts rushing out through the hose, meaning fuel valve is ok.
What might be the issue and possible resolution? This is the second usage after just being serviced!

Service the carburettor. The needle valve and area within should be well cleaned. Alternatively replace the carburettor with a new one.

Tip 21: Common Problems and Solutions

Blocked Exhaust

*A blocked exhaust causes the genset to work poorly. You notice the genset struggling to work. Sometimes this is accompanied with a lot of exhaust smoke. This situation continues even despite the normal routine service carried on the genset.
*Loose the exhaust and decouple the inlet pipe to the main exhaust frame.
*The inlet pipe is so designed to be blocked at one end with a lot of tiny holes drilled just before the blocked ended pipe.
*Using a small screwdriver, unblock all the soot filled exit holes on the pipe
*Couple back the pipe to the main exhaust frame and you are good to go.
Technology Market / Re: ABC Of Tiger Generator ( I Pass My Neighbour) by RepairZone: 10:15am On Apr 18, 2022
Tip 20: Common Problems and Solutions

Worn armature bearing cover

*This inhibits the free rotation of the engine's flywheel. Thus it's advisable to replace or pad up the bearing slot with a metal, plastic or rubber Oring.
*The oring helps to prevent the support bearing from dropping far below its designed level. This in turn helps to keep the cooling fans in position and not touching any sides of the armature cover.

*Alternatively, you could improvise a sleeve by tapping the bearing circumferential length with a paper tape or similar adhesive material.
*Next shorten the length of the main coil slot on the front and end shield metal body by using a small piece of plastic, metal or wood. This is to enable the cooling fans have enough clearance not to touch the end case.

Good morning everyone.

I bought an iTEC generator on Saturday, 9th of April. That same day it was on from around 6pm till 3am the next Sunday morning. Around 5pm on Sunday morning, I turned it on. It came on for a while and the light went off in the house but the generator didn't go off. The light keep going on and off intermittently. I initially thought it was probably overloaded and I removed the output plug but the generator on its own kept doing the same. Same repeated yesterday. Someone suggested it's the cut out, someone said it's the "governor".

The person who sold it to me said he'll send an engineer to fix it today.

Do I let the engineer fix it or insist the gen should be changed to a more popular brand? Please help!

Let the seller replace the genset for you.
