Is there anyway I can detect if water entered my generator tank?
There was rainfall and i noticed the petrol level in my generator didn’t go down so I feel water must have mixed with petrol.

You will see the water clearly at the tank base. Combustion will not also be smooth and could stop suddenly. It's advisable to drain off the water via the tank tap. Do also remember to cover up genset from the rains subsequently.

I too align with GpTech's advice to return the genset if under warranty. However you can also take time to inspect the rubber dampers for failure or loose coupling. Its possible that increased vibration exposes it's deformity.

What exactly is the measurement of that cup, I don’t have the cup anymore so wanna know the right measurement.

0.007 Liters = Size of cup
As an alternative, use an insecticide cap for measurement. 1 cup to 4 liters of fuel.

210cc engine has a higher displacement and thus more preferable. Although there is not much difference between both engines put forward.

Your oil/fuel mix ratio is too rich with oil. Thus more soot formed have now accumulated in your exhaust. Overtime it would block the exhaust and hinder the generator's performance.

Service the exhaust or replace it with a functional one to resolve this issue.

I have a 3.5kva elepaq Generator. I notice it’s consuming oil this days. Am currently changing the oil every 2weeks now and it was not like that before.

I only put the generator on from 8pm-2pm daily on a average.

Yesterday i notice it will on few few minutes and it will go off, this usually happens when i need to change the oil.


Another question if i want to change oil, must i remove everything inside before adding another one to it, or i can just top it up.

Please i need reply.

Your rings are gradually wearing off hence the shortage of oil experienced. You have the option to replace the rings or buy half engine to stop this shortage of oil experienced.

Better to drain off all used oil before adding new oil. However, if genset is not due yet for service, topping up will be fine.

Tip 19: Carburettor overflows continuously whenever fuel tap is opened.

* Open carburettor bowl and clean the area housing the needle valve. Using a carb cleaner will be great to loosen any debris along the fuel path flow for both inlet and outlet through the needle valve.
* Recouple carb back and check if leakage continues with fuel supply. Repeat process until it stops.
* Replace bowl oring and the underlay oring too if worn.

Worn piston rings can cause the piston head itself to rub against the combustion block wall of the engine. The piston's movement causes more noise because of increased friction and can damage the engine block over time.

You will also notice a drop in performance of the engine too since the suction and exhaust pressure will be impeded because of the worn piston rings.

No, putting fuel in tank half way does not affect the performance of your genset over time. However, running the genset dry everytime reduces the lifespan of your carburettor and should be avoided if possible to extend its lifespan.

Check your plug contact and cable well. It is very possible you have a broken supply cable.

Please confirm your generator type.

Tip 18: Repeated breakage of fuel hose feeding carburettor from fuel tank.

* Go for threaded hose of same internal diameter. This is usually long lasting and saves fuel hose replacement cost over a long time.

Hello gurus in the house. Can anyone suggest what brand of generator is the best besides Honda and Yamaha. Honda and Yamaha are excellent but way too expensive.

The main power items the gen will be powering are; one 2HP low voltage split unit, 1 deep freezer, 1 fridge(the fridge works well with a small tiger gen sha aa), one 50 inch smart tv, one 65 inch smart Tv. Its also possible i might need to power another 1HP low voltage split unit at the same time with the 2HP but might not or wont be always.

Please what brand and how many KVA should i get that won't give the gen stress?

Please I bought this tokunbo generator from an importer last year. I have not been able to enjoy the generator due to the noise.

The generator is so lousy.

I don't know if there is anything I can do to reduce the noise.

I am also considering if it will be possible to replace the engine side with a less noise engine that can power the alternator.

But I need expert advice.

Liaise with your local fabricator to replace the exhaust with a bigger one. This should reduce the noise.

The generator is set to power my 1200 watt pressing iron and it's has burnt 4 chargers so far.

Whilst ironing, ensure to have also an inductive load like a fan connected to absorb the pressing iron trip surges. Light loads like phone chargers and electronics should feed from a stabiliser. Thus the chargers should not get damaged again.

Tip 17: Common Problems and Solutions

Blocked Exhaust.
*You will notice the genset struggling to work.
*Remove the exhaust and blow air into the inlet. If you notice restrictions to the air flow, then the unit is blocked.
*To unblock the exhaust, uncouple the inlet soot short pipe from the exhaust assembly and punch open all blocked soot exit holes at its extreme. Couple back when done.

Please house which generator should I go for? Elepaq constant 4.5kv keystart or Kemage 4.5kv key start with remote. Both are same price and I’m used to Elepaq constant but thinking of trying a new product

Note: The generator won’t be working long hours because I get at least 16 hours light per day. The generator is just for back up incase I have visitors or emergency

Both gensets are great. However, I personally prefer Elepaq constant. This is because its parts are readily available and a lot of technicians are familiar with its design. Kemage will need some time to get same popularity as Elepaq in the market.

3.5kva genset will consume slightly more fuel on similar load than a 2.5kva genset. This occurs because the former has a larger piston and engine block that draws more air fuel mixture into the combustion chamber.

Good morning peeps. My generator of two years suddenly finds it difficult to carry the usual load. my UPS/Power surge won't come up and the fan will not run as fast as it could. I only use it for bulbs alone for now. I'm afraid of calling mechanic, most of them just complicate matter and you will turn to their weekly customer. Though the gen leaks oil a little, I make sure I top up regularly to avoid issues.

Your genset engine is weak. Increase the firing speed a bit to get better power output. Nevertheless, save for replacement of its piston rings or better still, half engine.

plumber will install a float switch in the tank, that will detect the water levels in the tank. So it will switch on and off the machine when required. If you’re not home you will assured that when you get home there will be water in the storage.

The only downside is voltage fluctuations. Some areas when power comes it will be 220V, the next minute he don drop to 170. That one fit go spoil machine.

Your engine is weak. Increase the engine's firing speed. If it does not work, replace the piston rings, half engine or get a new genset.

Drawdown is d percent drop of a stock between its highest point and its lowest point for a given time frame. What some people call bear. Note that there may be more than one drawdown within the period (eg. Year), the worst is d maximum drawdown.

On selected stocks I used last years drawdowns to estimate possible entries. If all things remain d same(eg. No bad news, no pandemic, no wars or coup d'etat ).

Use quality oils. Also check couplings to metal frame. Tighten all loose nuts and dampers

Monitor your oil levels, if consumption appears much higher then it means your piston rings are worn and need replacement.

I got an Elepaq SV6800 generator and it’s a year plus old.....without having a fault.

On the gen, 4.5kva is written on it, but on this forum it’s said to be lower.

REQUEST
1. I wish to know if Elepaq sv6800 can carry one LG smart inverter Ac (1.5Hp)

2. If it can carry one standing fridge.

3. One set of Tv

4. One standing fan

5. Two standing fan

6. Energy saving bulbs(5pairs)

Genset true capacity is about 2.75kva. It is not advisable to connect loads referencing imprint.

Tip16: Common Problems and Solutions

Genset starts and struggles to run with a lot of smoke from exhaust.

*Most likely due to a flooded carburettor. Check, service or replace the carburettor.
*Check that your exhaust is not blocked.
*Worn piston rings is the next suspect if servicing of carburettor has no effect. Thus, a replacement of the piston rings is advised.

Get the popular car phone charger and connect it's terminals to the battery. Pls note that the spring loaded small terminal should connect to +ve terminal of your battery.
Now connect its USB cable to your phone to charge.
