It does not matter what Ilorin was. As of today, Ilorin is ruled by an islamic ruler of Fulani origin as well as politically by Fulani people (Saraki). Fulani has since conquered Ilorin and it is now their vassal territory. Surely you are not about implying that a true Yoruba enclave is being ruled by somebody of a different tribe. That will be shameful, you know. When has a Yoruba ruled Kwara inn an elected manner? What sort of majority are they then in Kwara? Majority slaves and underdogs?
Civial Governors of Kwara State. How many are Yoruba in a so-called Yoruba majority state?

Adamu Atta Governor October 1979 October 1983 NPN
Cornelius Olatungi Adebayo Governor October 1983 December 1983 NPN

Shaaba Lafiaji Governor January 1992 November 1993 SDP

Mohammed Lawal Executive Governor 29 May 1999 29 May 2003 ANPP
Bukola Saraki Executive Governor 29 May 2003  PDP

Maybe you should educate yourself about the origin of these men.  Mind you I am a not a fan of any  one of them.
Three of them are pure Yorubas regardless of any nonsense Saraki might say, he's simply trying to pull a political stunt.
For the other two, one is Ebira, a subset of Yoruba, the other is from Kwara North.
None of them is Fulani,

In any event,  who is/was a Governor has nothing to do with the fact that Kwara state is at least 95 percent  Yoruba.
Kwarans will tell you that.
Why do you keep twisting the issue anyway? I am done with you.

Ilorin is not Yorubaland. Dont let Saraki and Gambari get you. It is a fulani muslim enclave ruled by a northern muslim. Hahahah! Most of those schools of then probably had 1-10 students in attendance.

Ilorin is not Yoruba land because Saraki said so?? Did you even hear yourself?
Ilorin is not only Yoruba, it is 99.999 percent Yoruba. The entire kwara state is at least 95 percent undiluted Yoruba

There is nothing to man up here. I was asking for dates to establish the fact. BTW, there are also mission schools established in the East. The fact that Lagos has most of the mission schools tells the influence of early contact with Europeans. That, no doubt gives Lagos, and not necessarily the entire Yorubaland, a headstart. But Igbos have since regained the impetus and actually supplanted Yorubas in education. The fact that mission schools were established in parts of Yorubaland in the mid to late 1800 but they got their first university graduate in the late-early 1900 could mean that Yorubas did not even harness the presence of the mission schools properly. Another education is needed here. Please comment. Thanks.

Dude, please stop embarrasing yourself in a public forum. You are implying that though the schools were built in Yoruba land but ibo people
were the one atending them because of their nomadic nature. Does that even sound like logic to you?

The first school in Ibo land was almost 64 years behind the first school in Yorubaland.
We are not even talking one school here, we are talking several schools that predate even NIGERIA as a country, and yet you want us to
believe that Ibo were the majority in those schools -some warped reasoning only you can pull out of your you know where.

@reporter?

I am of the view that you and your famous Internet junky called Ozodi Osuji are mentally deficient. Neither the Jews nor Ndigbo have drummed the idea of their superiority to anybody.

All Ndigbo have requested and will continue to request is an innocuous sentiment of achieving sovereign status for Igbo land. I do not feel that the call of equal playing ground for everybody in Nigeria on matters that concern any human endeavor engenders any display of superiority complex.

Ozodi Osuji has issue  with Osu system in Igbo land and I think it is understandable but I can not fathom your issues with superiority complex or lack thereof.

Many of the earliest schools were also found in Igboland and in Eastern Nigeria. But be reminded that Igbos began their migratory tendenceis way back in time such that Igbos were studying outside of Igboland. Zik, Cyprian Ekwensi and a host of other Igbo pioneers studied partly in and out of Igboland even as far away as in Sierra Leone. How come most senior/useful positions before Biafra war were held more by Igbos than by Yoruba?

Name a SINGLE school that predates schools in the SW. Whoever told you that your people held senior postions lied to you.
All those claims are part of the post-war propaganda told to young ones. They are nothing but fairy tales.
Check out most of the names of the indigenous ministers. They were Yoruba. Your folks by nature are traders before and after the war.

And if you must know, all those schools mentioned were established way before Zik's time

Okoromado,

Why don't you do your own research? I'm sure if you had a counter, you would have produced it.
Don't know why it is hard for you to accept that most of the Nigerian firsts pace-setters professionals
were Yorubas.
Fact is - ALL the earlier schools in Nigeria were located in Yoruba land. CMS Lagos. Bapt Acad Lagos, Baptist Boys Lagos
Methodist boys Lagos, Methodist girls Lagos.  Kings college Lagos, Eko Boys High School, Lagos, Abeokuta Grammar School, Abeokua.
Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan. Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode, Government Secondary School, Ilorin.

By this sheer overwhelming number of earliest schools in Yorubaland,  don't you think that the first wave of indigenous professionals will be
Yorubas? Unless you want to argue blindly (you are known for that.)

Normal persons shrug off their silly claims of innocence for they instinctively realize that where there is smoke there is fire. If you are routinely attacked by other persons there must be something about you that makes them attack you. People don’t just get up and attack whoever they see. People attack the neurotic who feels superior to them for it makes human beings feel angry for other human beings to feel better than them.

All human beings, black and white, the various African tribes are the same and equal. Therefore, if you fancy yourself better than other persons you infuriate them and they want to attack you, if only to teach you the lesson that you are not better than them.
The mad man does not learn from experience and instead go about pretending to be superior to other persons. No amount of rational feedback to him that he is the same and equal to other persons makes him give up his delusion of superiority, for that delusion is a mask for his perceived sense of inferiority.
We all feel like we are inferior and are not special. The exigencies of being a human being, an animal that knows that nature does not treat him as if he is special, an animal that would like to be special yet an animal that nature snuffs out and dies and rots and smells to high heaven. We feel like we are nothing special and would like to feel like we are special, important, and superior. But healthy persons know that they are none of those things hence accept their humble selves.

"We, black folk, feel insulted when white folk feel superior to us. We feel insulted because we know that despite the fact that white scientific and technological civilization is ahead of black civilization that all human beings are the same and equal. Come to think of it; one can understand why confused white racists feel superior to blacks for their material civilization is obviously ahead of Africans material civilization. But can one understand why Igbos should feel superior to other Africans? What in Igbo civilization makes Igbos seem superior to other Nigerians? Is it their underdeveloped political structure and culture before white men came to Nigeria? The very Hausas and Yorubas they feel superior to attained what Marxist call feudal political state (a prelude to the contemporary bourgeois state) and they, Igbos, were only at the rudimentary communalistic stage of socio-political development"

Psychology 101 For Mekuxx, Sunny-Bobo, Willy-Willy

"These people feel so inferior about themselves that they rejected themselves and identified with others, those they imagine are superior persons, Jews, and want you to collude with their obvious paranoia and tell them that they are Jews (read, tell them that they are superior persons, as they imagine Jews are) and if you do not they feel mad at you.
We have to explore why these people are doing what they are doing, for it is no longer a laughing matter. They generally run around fancying themselves superior to their Nigerian neighbors. They seize on flimsy evidence to justify their delusion of superiority. They would tell you that Hausas do not qualify to directly enter Nigerian universities (what it takes to qualify to enter Nigerian universities would not qualify you to enter good universities elsewhere, so qualification is always relative). They glibly tell you that Hausas enter universities on quota grounds. You ask them to provide you with evidence for their claims. Providing evidence for their delusional claims is not one of their strong points. Clearly, Hausas are as qualified as any other Nigerians to attend Nigeria’s universities.
There is no shred of evidence that the Igbos are superior to any other Nigerian tribe (their average scores on standard IQ tests, such as Stanford-Binnet and WAIS/WISC, are the same as those of other Nigerians; they perform at the same levels on SAT, GRE and other college entrance examinations as other Nigerians). Their feeling of superiority is imaginary, is based on their rejection of their real selves and identification with fantasy ideal selves"

Why should people who are based abroad be making threats about war, dealing with others, etc. If you were so resilient and brave, you wouldn't have abandoned Nigeria to go and live in a comfortable country. Are we to believe that if a war starts tomorrow, you armchair warriors (OnlyTruth, Mekusxxx) will travel down from your base to Nigeria to fight?

There is not going to be any war; one is more than enough. Whilst Nigerians resident in Nigeria are trying to make a living for themselves and their families with the meagre resources at their disposal, Biafrans, still bitter at events from over 40 years ago, are trying to incite others to take up arms. It is not going to work; you can continue to use your keyboard to let off steam. No one is paying attention. Whilst Mekusxxx never hid his hatred and disdain for the Yoruba from day one, OnlyTruth initially hated the Northerners. After being exasperated by inciting comments from certain Yoruba posters, he switched his hatred to the Yoruba. What does that say about the man?

Akigbemaru and reporter
Please let me appeal to you once again not to make incendiary comments about other tribes. It only inflames issues. If there are individuals like Mekusxxx, Wilywily, OnlyTuth making derogatory comments about Yoruba, then please feel free to attack them. That is what some of the more Igbo posters do. It does not make sense to attack a whole group of people because of the actions of a few. We should be able to debate issues without resorting to insults. We can all throw stones because all our fathers are guilty. By continuing to attack each other, we can not discuss and resolve issues in a civilised manner.

@Bluytooth,
I see your point and I understand where you coming from. A littlle leaven leavens the whole lot, I guess is your point.

Let me first state it clearly. I do not condone homosexuality nor am I an advocate of Gay rights.

However, we Africans tend to believe that homosexuality is lifestyle or societal induced.
Nothing can be further from the truth. Homosexuality is a disease that affects close to 10 percent of the population.
It is observed in every society, though more pronounced in the West due to their liberalism than other parts of the world.
Homosexuality has been in Nigeria long before you and I were born.
It has nothing to do with the West. The West only influences their coming out "of the closet" so to speak.

You'll find gays in countries where the practice of it is punishable by death (Middle East, South Asia.)
Do you honestly think anybody wants to be gay under such circumstance?

Dealing with the issues of gays is always a toughie for legislators.
I personally think that Nigeria should not enact any law to encourage more coming out of the closet.
It will only lead to more of more, and before you know it, you have a city in Nigeria as the next Frisco.
The "don't ask don't tell" policy keep things in perspective.
Aggressive gay counseling and treatment should be offered to discourage the continuity of it.

On a side note, why any man would not want a nice "one" is beyond my understanding.
