Eko Ile:Sounds like the most logical thing to do; however, ACN does not want to lose its relevance at the national level. The only way for ACN to stay relevant is to have their own flag bearer. It's a selfish thing to do, but it's the best political move for ACN if they want to stay in limelight. A party without a presidential candidate is a no party. More so, they've learnt their lesson from 2003 experience when OBJ tricked them into not fielding a candidate. |
Eko Ile:Ibos, always finding a way to condone crime, little wonder their villages are crime ridden. |
Very sad indeed. This nonsense must stop! Ibos and aggression. I am sure the guy has some lame excuse for his dastardly act. Typical Ibo. |
Eko Ile:Of course they thrive on negativity! BTW, do you work for Lagos State or you just love your State this much? Either way, your dedication is commendable. Thanks for the news. |
He should be calling for infrastructural development for Aba, Onitsha & Nnewi.
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budgeting, Mr. Ben Akabueze, is obligated to Lagos State only and nobody else in discharge of his duties as a duly sworn minister of Lagos State. If any state wants their own Akabueze, let them appoint one. Lagos State realizes the potentials of the man, and rightfully appointed him. Let every state follows in the footsteps of Lagos and appoint non-indigenous people as executives, and not some window dressing “Special Adviser.” Anyway, more than likely, Akabueze is a thoroughbred Lagosian. |
cheikh:True words you’ve spoken. A serving minister cannot engage every Tom, Dic-k, and Harrry who calls him out to a debate no matter the level of provocation. It is only in an insane society like Nigeria that you’ll find any inept ex-governor who failed to deliver the simplest of his tasks, and still wants to make himself the object of adulation. Agaga, on the other hand should just focus on the job he’s appointed to do. Nigeria has serious economic issues. This is not the time to BS around. We need J-O-Bs, wealth creation etc!!! |

OBJ may have so many flaws; however, political deftness is certainly not one of those flaws. OBJ is an astute politician. Underrate him at your own peril! He is laffing all the way! You may say what you want about GEJ too, but he is learning very fast from the maestro. |
Thanks for posting - great insight into the politics of yester years. Why the hoopla over this article. This article in not in anyway to denigrate Zik, Awo or Buhari; it is to highlight mistakes made by Zik. I can only imagine where Nigeria would have been had Zik cooperated with Awo. Buhari is definitely treading the same path by not supporting a vibrant Ribadu who I believe can take us to the Promised Land As the OP opines, history is about to repeat itself. |
There is really nothing wrong with APGA or any other party for that matter in fielding a candidate for the governorship of Lagos State. If anything, it is good for democracy –it’s a wake-up call to AC that other parties are eyeing the most prized city in Nigeria. I personally think that this coalition does not amount to anything. If PDP cannot win Lagos, a coalition of some obscure parties does not stand chance. |
ajayij:Well said. Yoruba people are more united by culture than religion. To further bolster your point, the second republic governors under UPN were mainly Christians except for LKJ who is a Muslim. |
If Saraki leaves PDP for another party. PDP will definitely lose Kwara and possibly Kogi as well. It's not looking good for PDP. Hopefully, AC can capitalize on this internal rumblings within the PDP |
Katsumoto:Of course splitting Nigeria will resolve some of today’s issues, but create some initial issues which I believe would be resolved in due time. We have to agree that Nigeria is not working out –the issues we face are too numerous to list. If we split along cultural and political line, I think we would be OK. I am certain that Yoruba nation will fare well. Lagos and Oyo will provide the initial economic backbone of the new nation, Ondo and Ogun will provide initial natural resources while we sort ourselves out. If Edo and Itsekiri join, both will add more to the initial natural resources pool. The necessary infrastructures are in place. Schools, roads, hospitals, and etc that are currently over extended because of “others” will now serve only the indigenes of the new state. By “indigenes,” I mean people who constitute the new nation -Yoruba, Edo, Itsekiri, Egun, Ilaje, and etc. It will be interesting to see. |
I still see you are carrying your beef with me from the other thread to the other thread. If you actually read my first post, I describing how the South-West has a lot to offer in terms of mineral resources such as natural gas. There was no "tribal superiority" in my post. I was simply correcting people ignorance about the South-East. Saying that the South-East population is not large or the South-East is the least endowed region, must be disputed with extreme prejudice. So read a thread before you make asinine statements. Also, concerning the Edo people, maybe you should read about how the Midwest came to be. Most Bini people were upset with the Yoruba bloc dominating them in the Western region. That is why they saw the need to create the Midwest region, to prevent Yoruba domination. Everyone knows this. Even though the Yoruba and the Bini people have a shared history, these people are not the same, nor do they see themselves the same politically. So just stop the nonsense and ask the Bini people.
I think you should get your facts right, I am part Edo lineage, and I do see my self culturally and politically more aligned with the SW than any other group. Most Edo will affirm that save for a few. If there is no election malpractice, Edo will vote the same line as SW because of their political and cultural ties with SW. As previously said by a poster, some people you assume are Yoruba today are actually Edo. And if Nigeria were to split, Edo would undoubtedly swing SW or form an independent state if that option is available. |
Beaf:There is nothing customary about dashing out YOUR money. As a citizen, you should be concerned that the office of the Presidency is engaging in such despicable act. We are know it's a subtle bribe. No one expects the presidency to say "here is 50k bribe." |
violent:Phone interviews are usually recorded in order to transcribe for print. Anyway, this recording provides clarity as to what truly transpired at Aso Rock. Kudos to SNG for maintaining their integrity. |
stranger:The entire SW will vote AC. There is an avalanche sweeping thru the SW! The momentum has changed in SW in favor of AC. PDP is seen all across the SW as a party of evil. Do you for once believe that Ogun peeps want to see the likes of OGD again or the likes of Akala in Oyo? It is over for PDP in SW. kwara will follow suit as well in due time. Ilorin is different from kwara. Saraki has Ilorin on lock but not Kwara; the rest of Kwara are Awoists, and will vote AC next general. Even if the entire kwara state does not swing AC, a big chunk will vote AC, enough to give Buhari some crucial votes. Anyway, this development is good if it is true. PDP is Nigeria's worst nightmare. |
stranger:Fashola brings a lot to the table. He is very popular amongst progressives, a lot of people like him for the job he is doing in Lagos. Buhari is very popular in the North, without rigging, Buhari will flog any candidate in the North. On issue of AC, Nigerians still vote party line, AC will sweep SW, Edo, Kwara. Given these circumstances, Buhari can win it all! If Buhari wins, expect to see progressives from all regions to play active role. I have confidence in Buhari than the rest of the lot. Ribadu would get my vote if he were to run though. |
DapoBear:Buhari/AC combination is the best for Nigeria. Nigeria's biggest bane is corruption, and Buhari has been proven to be incorruptible. If Buhari runs with a formidable AC candidate, I am convinced they could win. Ribadu will also be a major player in that government should they win. As you noted, he is not yet electable. Anyway, I doubt if Tinubu will want to run as Buhari's VP, he knows he comes with some baggage that may hinder their chances at the general elections. Fashola is the magic they need to sweep the rug under PDP's feet. |
stranger:Atiku has so many cases to anwser both domestic and international. Both are crooks as you said, however I doubt if Tinubu is a bigger thief. Atiku is a "multinational rogue" if such a terminology exists. |
If Buhari choses the right candidate from AC as his running mate, say someone like Fashola who a lot of people admire, he could win it all. Buhari will undoubtedly sweep the majority of the North, and AC will deliver SW, EdO, a big chunk of Kwara, and part Kogi. If Atiku wins the PDP primaries, he'll win some middle belt states and SE, and lose at least half of SS in the general elections and the rest of the nation. Combination of Buhari and AC will definitely give PDP a good run. This is the best option for Buhari to get the much needed Southern alliance, without it Buhari is dead in water. The best option for PDP at this point is Jonathan, he is the only electable candidate they have. |
KnowAll:The first misdeed belong to Ironsi, another Ibo power monger, who forcibly wrest power from a duly constituted government after the failure of the Ibo led-coup that destroyed the fabric of our young democracy. Ojukwu is the devil that enshrined emergence of miscreants like IBB, Abacha - fools that emerged after the war who now consider themselves superstars. |
To say Ojukwu is a devil is an understatement. This is a coward who left millions to die while he ran away when the heat was too much. The same fool that will rather see children starve to death rather than surrender even with imminent defeat staring at him. The devil that shamelessly demanded landing fee from relief organizations before food could be brought in for innocent civilians. You mean the devil that married his own god-daughter who is thirty something years his junior. Is there any name worse than devil? Think Lucifer will suffice. |
Every scientist understands that his/her work must withstand the test of time and scrutiny. Emeagwali is no exception to this standard. Why this issue generates so much passion is beyond words. The proponents of Emeagwali do not want to see facts as presented to them. Instead, they label every critic a racist and other choice names forgetting that one the very first people to expose him was an Ibo lady by the name of Chioma K. Ezeilo. She did not set out to expose him, but she got curious because the numbers did not add up. Like all diligent people, she took it upon herself to investigate the truth further before she wrote her piece. From thereon, critics start to dig further. Fact Check, Gordon Bell is no where analogous to Nobel Prize both in recognition and price money. It takes years of research and dedication in a chosen field to win a Nobel. So why the inference by Philip that the Bell Prize is like the Nobel of computing if not to embellish the value of Bell award to the ever gullible public? There is no basis for comparison. Every year the world awaits the announcement of Nobel winners -such is the prestige associated with Nobel Fact Check. Ememgwali had nothing to with the Internet either at the infancy or at maturity of the project. Arrogating the title of "Father of the Internet" to himself is an affront to the real pioneers of the Internet. By using the word Father of the Internet, he is implicitly saying Internet was conceived by him! How ludicrous! There is no other way to construe the word " Father" in this instance. Fact Check. Zip patent to his name, yet he claims he has over forty inventions. Fact Check Zip peer review for a scientist of this magnitude. Emegwali in my own opinion may not be guilty of any criminal code, however, he is guilty of deception, and undue embellishment of his credentials and profiting from the deception. Is Emeagwali intelligent? Absolutely. He is not your average Joe in terms of academic intelligence, but that does not ascribe him the rights to deceive the public. Moi 2 cents |
for a debate that will never happen. One is a serving Minister of Finance of the Federal Rep. of Nigeria and the other is an ex- Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, presently, perhaps, unemployed
. It's most inappropriate for a minister to engage in 'phoney' debates no matter how tempting/provocative etc. It's technically beneath his office do so publicly with any tom, Di-ck and harry, whether the ex- governor of the central bank or not. The protocol of office does not allow/tolerate such frivolous behaviour. He may do so after he's left the office/position of Minister of Finance if he chooses to engage in tittle-tattle
.
. No one is fight anyone. May peace reign!!!
