The EFCC, on 25th May 2016 secured the conviction of one Mallam Kabiru Jibrin before Justice Joseph Awak of Gombe State High Court after he was found guilty of a three count charge bordering on obtaining one million, five hundred and sixty thousand naira (N1.560.000) by false pretence.

The complainant, Aliyu Audu Awwal, had alleged that the convict defrauded him and one Mallam Hussani Kumo, of the sum of N1.560,000 on the pretext that the said amount will be used to secure Hajj seats for them which he never did but diverted the money for his personal use.

Kumo also alleged that the convict collected his Honda Accord car 2005 model under the guise that he will sell the car and use the proceed to secure additional Hajj seats which he never did.

Singer Omawumi stormed off the set of HFtv Da Chat show after she was asked to address rumors about her smoking and drinking habit. A visibly angry Omawumi told the presenter, Zinnia;

A 10 year old hacker described as a 'security expert' and identified as 'Jani', was awarded $10,000 for hacking into Instagram's security system.
According to reports, the 10 year old successfully found a loophole that would enable anyone delete comments left by users on any IG User page. Facebook's bug bounty programme which hands out cash prizes to people who find flaws in the company's security system so they can be properly fixed, awarded him $10,000 for his discovery.

I swear, I am very saddened how the marriage institution is going down the drain these days. Young people are no longer responsible or disciplined enough to stick it out in any given relationship and I fear that in the next five years, marriage as we know it, may become old fashion. Na WA!! A while back, I was talking to one of my sons who at 38 still can't rap his head around the permanence of marriage and this gave me cause for concern when he asked me, "why must marriage be forever or for better for worse, and couldn’t it be for maybe a few years as mutually agreed."

I may be old/new school, but I still believe in Family and Marriage. I believe that every human being is created to have a desire to be married and some have a desire to be single. But most of us want to be married. So, you CANT have a healthy marriage with unhealthy habits. Mbanu!!! Whether or not a young couple stay together often depends on why they got married in the first place. Take it from me, It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages. Being married to the same person for almost 38 years has thought me that marriage is no moimoi, neither is it beans and rice. Both parties must work at it daily and must give all of himself /herself everyday, forever. For me and my wife we are committed to managing each other because the devil we know is better than the Angel to come.

Marriage like I keep saying is how we maturely deal with our incompatibility rather than our compatibility. President Buhari has assured parents and relations of the kidnapped Chibok girls that he frequently reflects on the ordeal of the captives in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists and shares the pain of their continued absence from home. Buhari said this in a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba. Part of the statement reads;


"On the second anniversary of the kidnap of the girls which is today, President Buhari affirms that, as a parent and leader of the country, he understands the torment, frustration and anxiety of the parents and will not spare any effort to ensure the safe return of the girls. The President continues to believe that with the total commitment of the Federal Government, Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies, and the support of the international community, the girls will be eventually rescued. President Buhari notes that thousands of persons, mostly women and children, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram, have already been rescued and reunited with their families. He shares the hope of the parents that the Chibok girls will ultimately be rescued and reunited with their families as well. The President assures the parents that the Federal Government and security agencies will continue to explore all possible options for the safe return of the girls. President Buhari urges the parents to continue to exercise patience and understanding as the government works diligently to ensure that the girls return home unharmed. The President thanks all Nigerians, religious and civil organizations, and the international community for their continued sympathy, support and prayers for the return of the Chibok girls."

Respite has come the way of a 14 year old girl identified as Faith Andrew whose treatment for a kidney disease has been stopped for a while because of the inability of her widowed mother of 6 to pay for her weekly dialysis or the N7 million kidney transplant fee.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has said that the Federal Government was planning to impose more hardships on Nigerians by increasing Value Added Tax (VAT) from the current five per cent to 10 per cent, describing the move as insensitive to the plight of Nigerians who are suffering from the bad economic policies of the President Mohammadu Buhari led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had said on Thursday, in Lagos that the current five per cent VAT rate in the country was very low, and went on to add that the Federal Government would increase the taxpayer base this year. Reacting through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said any increment in VAT or any other tax being paid by Nigerians at this time will further make life unbearable for the people.

“Nigerians are suffering and the little that they have, federal government is planning to take back through VAT increment, this is wickedness! “Under three months, electricity tariff was increased despite epileptic power supply, N50 stamp duty was imposed on bank customers for money received into their accounts via electronic transfer, cash and cheques; petrol is being sold for as high as N400 per litre and now they are talking about increasing VAT to 10 per cent, this is the height of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians,” he said.

The governor, who lamented the increase in the cost of living of Nigerians, occasioned by the bad economic policies of the Federal Government, said “even recent figures from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed that prices of food have hit a record high and inflation is worsening.

“How can government be considering 100 per cent increment in VAT when businesses are folding up, prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed, millions of Nigerians are losing their jobs and those who are still employed are no longer getting paid regularly? “For even contemplating the increment of VAT at this difficult time shows that the Buhari-led government does not care about the welfare of the citizens and only God will save the poor masses from the hands of this government.”

Governor Fayose said rather than imposing more hardships on Nigerians, President Buhari should seek help from experts on how best to revive the country’s economy, adding that; “As at today, the Buhari-led government is yet to show that it has any clue to the revival of the economy.”

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has raised the alarm over President Mohammadu Buhari’s scheduled trip to China to borrow $2 billion as part of the N1.84 trillion programmed to be borrowed to finance the 2016 Budget, describing the move as an attempt to mortgage the future of Nigeria and its people.

The governor, who said the 2016 budget was not a reflection of the present economic reality in the country, added that; “By the time they borrow N1.84 trillion to fund their N6.06 billion budget; I wonder how Nigeria will survive in 2017 when the Federal Government will be servicing debt with about 50 percent of its budget.” It has been widely reported that Nigeria wants to raise about $5 billion abroad to cover part of its 2016 budget deficit.

This was said to be projected to hit N3 trillion ($15 billion) due to heavy infrastructure spending at a time when the slump in global oil prices has slashed its export revenues.

In a release issued on Friday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said; “In elementary economics, you don’t propose to spend more when your income reduces and I still can’t understand this Buharinomics in which Nigeria is going to spend N6.06 billion with crude oil bench mark of $38 per barrel when the country budget was N4.5 trillion in 2015 when crude oil bench mark was $53 per barrel.

He said since the President claimed to have recovered and still recovering trillions of Naira looted from the treasury and over N3 trillion saved from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the 2016 budget should be funded with the recovered fund.

The governor said he was alerting Nigerians of the danger in the federal government plan to fund the 2016 budget with loan, adding that; “Tomorrow, it will be said of me that I did not keep silent when Nigeria was being mortgaged to unnecessary debt.

He warned that with the proposed N1.84 trillion borrowing, $2 billion of which President Buhari is already going to borrow in China, the nation may soon be going the way of Greece because Nigeria will be borrowing N5 billion per day for the next 365 days. “If your income was N200, 000 per month last year and your expenditure was N195, 000 per month; does it make any economic sense for you to propose to spend N300, 000 per month this year that your income has reduced to N120, 000?

“Only President Buhari can explain to Nigerians what manner of Economic theory encourages borrowing of N1.84 trillion to fund a N6 trillion budget. As for me, it is nothing but a voodoo economic theory and Nigerians must take note that the income that should accrue to them in five years’ time is about to be spent in one year by the Buhari’s APC government,” the governor said.

The woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, on Tuesday reportedly jumped off a bridge into a canal at Oke-Afa area of Ejigbo in Lagos state.

According to the Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe, who confirmed the incident, the woman was on a suicide mission as she deliberately jumped into the canal from the bridge.

Describing the incident as tragic, the Director said, “A woman deliberately jumped off a bridge into a canal at Oke-Afa area of Isolo.
“The Ikotun Fire Station who were on ground, tried to rescue the woman.

“The woman is believed to have been dead by now as we are still searching for her inside the canal presently.”
