I didnt get any of those no-reply-cic messages from IRCC. What to dohuh

Edited: And I just checked my GC account to see application cancelled, could this be a system glitch or what? This is confusing really.

NSE stands for Nigeria Student Express. It is a new initiative which is aimed at improving processing time of student visa applications of prospective Nigerian students who are resident in Nigeria. (The processing time is meant to be 20days but unfortunately, that's not the reality)

The requirements are;

1. A minimum band score of 6 on all aspects of IELTS (Academic or General module is accepted)

2. A mybankstatement certificate from your bank showing a transaction history of 1year. Usually the account is supposed to show a balance of 30kCAD (or at least your fees plus the 10k for living expenses)

Most people provide these documents when they apply, others submit normally and get prompted by IRCC to provide the documents. When you get prompted by IRCC you are given a grace period of 30days to submit the documents. During the 30days period, processing of your application is on hold.

IRCC was very explicit when they stated that submitting the documents is not compulsory and when you fail to submit, it is assumed that you have decided to opt out of the NSE route and your application will be processed normally.

That was what I submitted in order to meet yhe submission deadline and when I finally received the hardcopy of the result I scanned and sent via webform explaining that I had already sent a screenshot.

The uploaded documents were acknowledged.

Please ensure all vital details are captured in the screenshot ie reference number, name etc

It will surely end in praise!!!

I'm having sooo many DMs all asking the same question, and I'm really getting tired of sending the same replies. So I'll just post my own little insights here and hope it helps everyone.

1. Pray and Pray and Pray . . . I know some people will argue, but I think God plays a huge role in all this.

2. Do your research . . I followed the exact steps on their website on how to apply for a visa during COVID. See link below.
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/visitors/visa.html

3. I have really young children . . 3 of whom are US citizens and can come with me. I travelled with two of them. I guess they didn't want to separate my girl from the rest of her siblings.

4. It's better to travel first and then get your study permit. Because you can use that and your Canadian address to send an invitation letter to your spouse and children.

5. Reason for their travel should read something like . . . to stay with you for the period of your study since you can't be travelling back and forth to visit because of the COVID situation.

6. PoF is critical . . . I got the exact amount required for the whole family and had the cash in my account. I also had it for a long period so it showed when I sent in mybankstatement. They like to think that you will be bringing in money, rather than coming to take.

Applications are assessed on a case by case basis, so the secret is to find what works best for you and use it.

For someone without young children, you can say you need your spouse because of emotional strength, especially during this COVID situation and the likelihood of a lockdown. Being alone and separate from your spouse is not good for your mental health (or something like that). Please don't quote me oh, I'm only suggesting cheesy cheesy

If you still need further clarifications please feel free to DM, but you will have to bear with me, it may take me a bit to answer.

Disclaimer: I'm not an expert oh, just sharing what worked for me.
Thank you so much for your response. Wishing you the very best in your endeavours.

Thanks guys . . .

I applied for my study permit on 15th of October 2020
Got my PPR 5th of Jan
Travelled to Canada on the 18th of Feb
Applied for visiting visa for hubby and daughter on the 5th of March
Got their approval on the 29th of March (Hubby missed the email so we just found out yesterday)
PS: I applied for visiting visa for hubby because he will be returning to Nigeria after bringing my daughter. Otherwise a SOWP is the right application for those who want to stay.
2. Did you do anything specially to expedite the process? Because, that processing time is mind-blowing!!

A big congratulations to you and your family. Please I need a few clarifications from you as I hope to follow in your footsteps in a few weeks. When you said you applied for visitor's visa for your hubby and your daughter, did mean you applied for them as a sponsor ie issued invitation letter and the works or was it your husband who applied on his own and just mentioned that you were a student resident in Canada already?

Hey here! Good morning.

I am noticing that many persons are not meeting IRCC 6.0 across different sections and still being advised to use it. Looks to me that we are the reason why IRCC is asking for IELTS.

You reason it, if out of 20 Nigerians that apply for visa, 10 didn't meet their minimum requirement, does that not justify their reason for requesting for it in the first place? I was once told that schools in the US wanted to stop asking for TOEFL from Nigerians, but they couldn't, cos our results were never really good like guys from Zambia and Ghana. I think we are more focused on leaving Nigeria than leaving the right impression. Please, let's endeavour to sit tight for these exams, ace them very well and submit afterwards. If peradventure you didn't do well(I.e. didn't meet their requirement), it is advisable to re-take the test. I feel most Nigerians can score 6.0 and above in all sections of the IELTS test, at least those that are educated should be able to do this effortlessly. But then, some us don't sit tight to prepare, we are more focused on the end-goal than the process.

My point: if we keep using scores that don't meet their requirements, we are giving them strong reasons for them to keep requesting for this. Very soon, Canadian universities would make it compulsory for Nigerians to submit IELTS result because of their bad performance during visa application. Shalom!
I share your sentiments.

Hello house,

I am sorry for the quite unrelated post/question, I was unable to get a quick answer on the IELTS room.

I wish to take the IELTS exam in Lagos, I heard some centers do not give headsets for Listening but instead play the Listening test with a loudspeaker.

I will be happy if anyone who wrote with IDP/MOD (Not British Council) tells me what center they wrote and were given a headset. I am considering writing at the UNILAG center, So if anyone wrote there please advise otherwise let me know alternatives.

Thank you
My bad...I missed out the part where you specifically mentioned that you required info on just IDP/MOD
Kindly ignore my earlier response and all the best with your exams

Good evening people and happy Easter to all Christians in the house.

Please I need clarification concerning the IELTS result required for NSE.
I just got my result today and I am wondering if I have to wait until I receive the hard copy to scan or if a screenshot of the result page would suffice for the purpose.

Please for those who met up with the NSE requirement, how did you do it? I'm mindful of the fact that I am time-bound

Patience isn't one of my virtues so I struggled with this process but I thank God it worked out eventually.

1st Application: Visit visa refused in 2018
Study permit application - 10th July 2020
GCMS notes - 21st September, stating absolute rubbish that didn't tally with my submissions, I'm self sponsored but they said I'll deplete family savings plus other crap they wrote. I started sending plenty webforms and emails, requesting that my application be reviewed as the assessment on the notes were very wrong, all to no avail
Official refusal - October 2nd 2020. Reasons stated for me - family ties, personal assets, purpose of visit including travel history, lolz.

2nd Application - 16th October 2020
Upfront medical - 30th November 2020

NSE request for only ielts - 1st December. I replied next day telling them that I can't write cos I'm unavailable. Then I merged my LOE as to why I can't write + my medical sheet + tuition receipt of $2,500 to UoR and submitted in the column provided for NSE. I first used UoM LOA to apply but later adviced them to continue processing with UoR LOA since the previous admission was valid for only the winter term, no deferral. I haven't read of anyone doing this for an ongoing application and was strongly advised against doing it but I sent it anyway.

Medicals passed - 16th of December 2020.
17th March 2021 - IRCC finally replied one of my several emails (that processing has exceeded standard time) asking for ielts again. I had to promised them that I'll go and write it and send the upper week.
IELTS exam - 27th March 2021 but then, I didn't know that
BVL & PPR had dropped on 26th of March 2021
UPS 2-way courier to Abuja - 29th March 2021
Passport returned to me - April 2021

Documents submitted for both applications:
All IMM forms
In the Admission section, i uploaded:
Admission letter, Correspondence with school and application receipts
BEng certificate and transcript
Certifications - COREN, NSE, IPMP, NYSC

In the passport section, i uploaded:
International passport with visas to Singapore, UAE and Ghana
Birth Certificate and LGA certificate
Biometrics documents

Proof of funds section, I uploaded:
myBank statement ticket, amount to tally with a table I created to show all funds required for the duration of my study
My several Investments and pension accounts showing that the funds for my studies is only a percentage of my networth, all to prove assets and economic ties.
Employer's Letter of introduction
Payslips
Tax Certificates
Business agreements and Investment Certificates - I think some of these were unnecessary especially the FX investments.

Client info section, I uploaded: Table of content for documents , followed by LOE
Age declaration documents for parents
Birth certificates for siblings
An inauguration brochure for my dad as ICAN chairman, that had pictures of my family members as professionals in different fields
My personal land deed, survey and receipts
Proof of car ownership, explained as assets
Updated CV, Work ID card
Congratulatory emails and awards from work, some had pictures from expatriate supervisors, an award from global Manager
Employment history - all my promotion documents and offers from past and present

In summary, what I did differently was to only subtly rebut the previous reasons with same documents used for the first time (even the myBank statement was the old one I reused with no money in my UBA account sef, but I got a letter from Stanbic asset managers attesting my finances, and submitted SOA from 2016). I also paid $2,500 as part of my tuition, just to show commitment of some sort.

The Letter I wrote for the second application was termed LETTER OF RECONSIDERATION, telling the VO to refer to their error in the previous application and that I meet their requirements. I showed my POF budgeted as $50k (a % of my total) to cover the entire 2 years of my study - $15k tuition, $25k for living expenses & $10k flights and miscellaneous, as I'll be self sponsored.
Home ties were parents, siblings and friends, Stanbic asset management Investment letter, UK-DION investment certificate to be receiving monthly ROI to cater for unseen events while studying (all to show that I'm not going there to work), Pension, Landed property & Car.
I studied Chemical Eng. and going for MSc. in Industrial as a progression in my career.

The gist:
When the GCMS notes came in that first time, I feel into depression cos I couldn't fathom how poorly my application was assessed but I found strength, after many hard days, to maintain my faith, holding unto the fact that God won't leave me half-way. I reached out to plenty lawyers to just go straight to JR cos up till now, I don't understand what went wrong with that first application, considering that I had studied this thread from part 13 and know what was obtainable. I wrote my LOE using every refusal reason as subheadings and addressing each as it applies to me, but then... I learned some lessons - so much is outside my control, God is faithful so I should depend solely on Him than trust my own understanding, In such cases, sound more sympathetic than professional.

Upon seeking JR approach, one lawyer just advised me to reapply first and we'll take it up after the second time. Now, God perfected it. To all hopefuls, God doesn't put to shame those that put their trust in Him. I literally gave up plenty times and even stopped going to church, but His mercy and reckless love won't just give up on me. I even prefer traveling now than that December I had wanted, God's time is really the best and I thank Him for how it turned out.

Thanks to everyone that replied my enquiries and emails, I really appreciate y'all. I've made great friends from this forum, It's really overwhelming and I'm grateful to y'all.
Congrats and shout out to Lekiboboe (my amazing and selfless paddy that have always been just a chat away) and NairaLuck (my first application set-mate that it happened for before me, I'm happy it ended in praise for us all), IRCC made me weak to even type here again. Thanks to Frank (u literally had to stand by for my unending emails) and Dommakaveli - this 2 argued one time on one enquiry I raised, lolz, all follow o. Shout out to my UoR crew. I thank u all so much for believing in my application and wishing me success. God will always show you favor. Ehem, Brace up, landing gist to follow
Congratulations!!!

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it.
I guess my question would be how to fill the form - If I select that a family member would accompany me to Canada, then the options are: study or visit

If I choose 'study', then it would request Application for Study Permit form (IMM1294) and Letter of Acceptance.
Or do I choose 'visit', would they be allowed entry to Canada? and get an authorization/exemption letter?

What other evidence do I need to provide with my application?

Thanks!
I'm not an authority figure on the subject matter as I am currently awaiting a decision on my own study visa. Hopefully someone who has been successful in getting their visa as well as for
their children would shed more light.

All the best in your processing.

I guess that will be dependent on the age(s) of the child(ren). Remember that if you choose study you need to provide an admissoon letter from a DLI and in Canada elementary schools are assigned to you based on where you reside so you don't have control over the process.

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I intend to apply for a study permit and travel with my 4-year old daughter who turns 5 in October, my husband is not traveling with us. I got admission to NSCC for a Grad Cert in Event Management.
I read on the IRCC website that a minor applying from outside Canada would need a study permit even though they are accompanying a parent. I also read on this forum that a child was not allowed to board the airplane because the child had a visitor's visa and the mom had a work permit.

"Visa offices processing temporary residence applications made outside Canada by minor children who want to study in Canada should consider them as students and not as visitors, even when they are accompanying a parent who is authorized to either work or study in Canada. In other words, a study permit is required, unless they are exempt from requiring one pursuant to Section R188."

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/guidelines-on-minor-children.html

In filling the forms online, I have to upload a letter of acceptance from the school for my child as well as fill the IMM1294 form - I don't have a letter of acceptance because my friends in Canada told me that the School Board assigns kids to schools close to where they are living and I have not secured accommodation yet.

For those who applied with child(ren), please how did you go about this? I am confused. Please help!

For University of Regina, you can either fill out the statement of purpose form which is part of the application package (ie answer the questions) or you could write a letter. Please note, the content of your letter should address those questions that are on the questionnaire and upload same.

This is the case for postgraduate studies. Don't know if the se applies to undergraduate applicants

Good evening everyone,
I trust our day is going well. Please I am in the process of reapplying for my study visa having received a rejection earlier. I need a few clarification and would appreciate a response;

1. Is the UCI number that was generated in my previous application the same number which I will use for this application? If yes, am I expected to input in manually or will the system automatically generate it?

2. My form imm5257 is not generating a barcode despite having been successfully validated. Am I doing something wrong?

I apologise if these questions have been previously answered. I tried reading back but couldn't locate it.
