Few days ago, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) launched a platform called Do Not Disturb (DND) feature and direct all Nigerian Telecommunication companies (Telcos) to release a guide on how their customers can opt in to their respective do not disturb list. Hence, MTN Do Not Disturb feature was announced and below is how to opt into mtn do not disturb list.
According to the definition set forth by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Do Not Disturb (DND) is a platform created to allow customer (mtn,glo,airtel and etisalat) opt out from receiving unsolicited calls and sms for marketing purposes.
To stop receiving promotional messages and calls for 3rd Party services (Bulk SMS, VAS promos, etc.) on MTN Nigeria, you need to opt out from these services by adding your number to MTN Do Not Disturb list.
Set Up Guide: MTN Do Not Disturb Feature and List.
There are two versions of MTN DND, there is a full blocked mode and a partial version.
Full Blocked Mode: This mode of MTN do not disturb feature allows mtn customers to totally Opt Out from receiving promotional messages and calls via SMS and IVR.

Partially Blocked: This version allow you to select which of the promotional services you want to continue receiving.

Hello peeps, am really confused as I'm typing this.
Recently I subscribed to Mtn 'Do Not Disturb' Me package. It wasn't long I noticed I can't receive third party sms i.e bulk sms.
Immediately I noticed this I quickly proceeded in deactivating it.
The problem now is that I still can't receive third party messages. No job interview invites is coming in anymore. Just last week I met someone helping in securing a contract, he told me a bulk sms was sent to all the applicants. I told him I didn't receive any but he thought I was lieing.
Pls what can I do to start receiving third party messages back. I have made several calls to mtn customer care and I have texted ALLOW to 2442 several time but still no solution.
Am worried pls anyone affected too and how were you able to resolve this?

Simply reply the text with of any(One at a time) this words for free; Stop, End, No, Quit or Unsubscribe.

To confirm if it has worked, you will receive a reply from the SMS shortcode, confirming that you have successfully opted out of their text message campaign.

Its no longer news that the DO-NOT-DISTURB (DND) ISSUE has come to stay. What is news however, is that there are at least TWO (2) ways to solve this problem. This info is for bulksms website owners and endusers and recipients of bulksms.
As a reminder, the federal government, through the NCC had in July 2016 mandated all gsm operators to implement a policy called DO-NOT-DISTURB (DND). This policywas expected to give gsm consumers to option to ALLOW or STOP receiving unsolicited text messages.
Funny enough, bulksms belongs to this class of messages called unsolicited.
So what went wrong? A lot! After the policy was implemented, it was noticed that many subscribers , especially mtn subscribers were automatically blocked from receiving bulk messages, without the subscribers knowledge. Despite this, many subscribers are happy that at least finally, those unsolicited text messages have finally stopped.
If you are affected, you dont need to be too happy, in fact you should be very sad because you are missing a whole lot. You are missing those sms alert for job interviews, you can't receive One Time Password (OTP) for transactions and other smses for authentication purposes. So you should actually be sad and unblock yourself right away!

So, how do you know if you are affected?


On your MTN line, simply dial this code *131*201#. You will receive a message saying You hace successfully activated data suspension... Congrats. The problem is solved now. Dial this code *131*200#. The settings will be reset and you'll be able to browse with your credit.

so i subscribed to whatsapp weekly some weeks ago on MTN, within that same week i subscribed for airtel data plan and dumped the MTN sub though i was still using the line for calls oblivious of the fact that this crooks still deduct #25 from my account in the name of auto renewal. recently i subscribed to #500 1GB weekly on that MTN line, now fast forward to two days ago, like they knew i wasn't aware and maybe the spirit touched the auto-machine to confess, i received a message informing me of expiration and consequent auto-renewal of my whatsapp weekly bundle in two days time (today) without the code to stop the auto-renewal, i was stunned, but then, knowing the antics and criminal nature of this fraudulent network, i calmly called 180, followed the DIY instructions stuff, at the end i was sent a message that i was not subscribed or have unsubscribed from it. ah! i relaxed....better i thought. i've stopped the scam in progress. i congratulated myself.

Only for me to receive a message this night that my whatsapp weekly bundle subscription was successful! ah!! for real ? obviously MTN was hell bent on carrying out this scam. my eye just red, as i was already angry before the message came in, so, i called the customer care, straight to their representatives abi ambassadors, and the young lady listened to me patiently, checked my line and told me that emm, it was not canceled properly if she should cancel it, and i told her to cancel it and return my #25, she said it was not possible. i was like, come, is your brain paining you i said take ya data and give me my money now i dont want again. now she says she have canceled it, i've not even received a message to that effect and now i'm left wondering........though i told her she would see it on NL

I Loaded N1500 Recharge card with the intention of paying off the N500 I was owing Glo, and then subscribe for my monthly Data of N1000, but when I tried subscribing it was not going through so I checked my balance and I saw N500 instead of N1000. I immediately called customer service and the young man on the other line told me I have been auto renewed. (Please note that this auto renew is automatic and not subscribed by me) Meaning that if I loaded that money under duress, to make an emergency call, Glo would have left me stranded. Anyway in this case I wanted to renew N1000 Data, and was forced into a N500 contract without any form of confirmation prompt by or from me.

Now their argument or arrangement is, that I should send an sms to them each time I do not want to auto renew, (pls note that this auto renew was not initiated by me the subscriber) and each SMS cost N10 (Ten Naira)
When you do the Maths N10 from millions of subscribers runs to millions of money, we may keep over looking it that its just N10,then it will be just N10. But when you multiply it by just a million subscribers, then that sums up to a lot of money.
Further probing and calling 444 on glo network, I was now told I could go online to cancel my auto renew, but then I ask, how do I go online to cancel auto renew when I don’t have Data at that time.
