ComputersMy Password Hacked by rhamzus(op): 2:03pm On Mar 02, 2012
The number one way hackers get into protected systems isn't through a fancy technical exploit. It's by guessing the password.

Not surprised Dbanj Twitter account got hacked easily, when he used *****.

That's not too hard when the most common password used on business systems is "Password1."

There's a technical reason for Password1's popularity: It's got an upper-case letter, a number and nine characters. That satisfies the complexity rules for many systems, including the default settings for Microsoft's widely used Active Directory identity management software.

Easily guessable or entirely blank passwords were the most common vulnerability.

Exploiting weak or guessable passwords was the top method attackers used to gain access last year. It played a role in 29% of the security breaches Verizon's response team investigated.

Verizon's scariest finding was that attackers are often inside victims' networks for months or years before they're discovered. Less than 20% of the intrusions Verizon studied were discovered within days, let alone hours.

Even scarier: Few companies discovered the breach on their own. More than two-thirds learned they'd been attacked only after an external party, such as a law-enforcement agency, notified them. Trustwave's findings were almost identical: Only 16% of the cases it investigated last year were internally detected.

So if your password is something guessable, what's the best way to make it more secure? Make it longer.

Adding complexity to your password -- swapping "password" for "p@S$w0rd" -- protects against so-called "dictionary" attacks, which automatically check against a list of standard words.

But attackers are increasingly using brute-force tools that simply cycle through all possible character combinations. Length is the only effective guard against those. A seven-character password has 70 trillion possible combinations; an eight-character password takes that to more than 6 quadrillion.

So ensure you have @ least 7 characters with a combination of Alphabets, numbers and signs i.e @m@OluwakOnikuni2012 (this was a friend password which when translated means son of God will not die 2012)

I am an IT guy like you, even with a strong domain policy i can surf what i want.
My company was once resp. for researching on HIDP, NIDP (Intrusion). It was in the process of the research we found out abt bypassing firewalls. Even with ordinary mozilla, some plugins will allow you surf sites disallowed and they will appear as mozilla homepage. There r lots of ways to bypass policy esp. using Win Servers.
The best firewall on internet surfing is when you use an ISP that solely filters their network through  third party i.e using OpenDNS, then you can apply some internal rules.

But still, believe me there is no pencil without a eraser

FamilyReal Dad Had Raped Her Mum by rhamzus(op): 2:56pm On Jan 25, 2012
had been a spiteful remark thrown away during a squabble between two friends. But within moments, it changed Rebecca’s life in a way she never dreamed.

Rebecca’s close friend and aunt, who was the same age as her, had called her a “rapist’s kid” in a silly teenage spat. Naturally Rebecca wanted to know why.

She went home and told her mother, expecting her to shrug it off as a cruel jibe between squabbling kids.

Instead, Rebecca’s mother sank to the floor in tears, and told her it was true.

Nairaland GeneralWays To Destroy Your Reputation by rhamzus(op): 5:44pm On Dec 01, 2011
Take away: If you aren’t careful about protecting your reputation, you may find yourself doing damage control for the rest of your career.
Each of us has a reputation that follows us from place to place. That reputation may be good or it may be bad. I hope yours is good and I’m assuming that you want to keep it that way. After all, a bad reputation may affect you more than a good one. Perhaps you’re on the hunt for a new job. That bad reputation may make it much harder to find your next gig. In today’s hyper-connected world, even the smallest public misstep can spell the end of a once-great reputation. Fortunately, you generally control your own destiny in this regard. Here are some things you should definitely NOT do if you want to retain your positive image.
1: Don’t choose your battles
Like it or not, in the workplace there is always conflict. Some battles were meant to be fought and some weren’t. I’ve seen people shy away from facing any workplace challenges and I’ve seen people rise up to battle anything and everything that comes their way. Neither extreme is good for your career. It’s important to understand which battles are worth waging and which ones aren’t. If you fail in choosing your battles, don’t be surprised if your reputation takes a hit. Too timid and you’ll be seen as a pushover; too aggressive and you’ll be seen as a troublemaker.
2: Misuse social media
You already know this, but it bears repeating: Social media follows you forever. If you’re not careful, what you say can and probably will be used against you at some point. If you get on Facebook and complain about what a jerk your boss is, don’t be surprised if people reading such comments lose their confidence in your ability to use sound judgment on the job.
Unfortunately, social networking lends itself to serious oversharing, especially on Facebook, although Twitter is a close second in some ways. I love Twitter, but I cringe at some of the comments I see. Frankly, I’m surprised that more people aren’t fired for their comments. I even stay (mostly) away from politics and religion on Twitter.
3: Commit a crime
If you commit a crime that is serious enough, you can kiss your reputation goodbye. At the very least, you will have to work really hard to reestablish your credibility. But depending on the crime, you could find your career seriously derailed, with people’s trust eroded.
4: Be proven to be a hypocrite
Never criticize, if you know you do it. Better still do not condemn peoples doings.
5: Lie
Lies will catch up with you. A lie might be small or it might be something big, such as lying to cover up a mistake. If you’ve blown it, own it and move on. If you lie, people will remember, and your reputation will probably not recover, at least at your current employer.
6: Listen little, talk much
No one likes a know-it-all. Regardless of your position, listening to those around you is a key skill to hone. As you listen — and I mean really listen, not just look like you’re listening — people will notice. Their confidence in you will increase, as will your reputation. If you talk too much, people will tune you out, particularly if what you’re saying doesn’t help them.
I’ve seen this in action: I’ve watched a guy talk until he was blue in the face. He knew facts but didn’t understand how to put them into context. He rarely listened to other people and it showed when he opened his mouth. The result: He got a reputation as a know-it-all who couldn’t understand others’ points of view.
7: Fail to take responsibility
Believe it or not, I’ve made some mistakes in my career. Nothing is worse than having to fess up to someone that I’ve blown it. But it would be worse if I tried to cover it up. If I’ve truly blown it, I will be the first to stand up and accept responsibility and clean it up. Of course, if I haven’t blown it and someone is just looking for a scapegoat, I’ll fight until I drop dead. But I believe in accepting responsibility when it’s necessary and I believe that your reputation is linked to the willingness to do so in appropriate circumstances.
8: Change your stance… all the time
If your opinion changes depending on who is in the room, you’re probably not all that trustworthy. This is something else I’ve seen in action, and I continue to be amazed when people eat it up! Do you have one opinion when executives are in the room and an opposite opinion when they’re not there? If so, you’re not being transparent; people do see it and they will believe that you’re a suck-up. That’s not a good reputation.
Now, you may frame your opinion differently depending on who is in the room. But that’s just tailoring your message to your audience, which is fine as long as the substance is still there.
9: Get drunk
This one is easy: It’s a judgment issue. Think it’s okay to get drunk at a company-sponsored event? If so, your judgment is in serious error. If you do get drunk like this, it’s going to damage your reputation and you will be the talk of the office, especially if you end up doing something truly stupid.
10: Be constantly difficult to work with
Are you a jerk at the office just because you’re allowed to get away with it? This is another behavior I’ve seen: An aggressive, power hungry, small-minded person is not reined in when necessary and continues to harass people, raise objections just for fun, and badger people rather than work with them. These people take pride in tearing other people down in an effort to build themselves up. Having a reputation for being difficult to work with is extremely hard to shake. Even if you begin to realize that you might be this person, your attempts at change will be viewed with suspicion as those around you wonder what you’re after. So at least make an attempt to treat your coworkers with respect, listen to their opinions, and act like a member of the work team.
FamilyRe: His Wife Has Too Many Male Friends by rhamzus(m): 5:22pm On Dec 01, 2011
evilspirit:
This story isnt mine but for  a worried soul

I married my wife eight years ago and we are blessed with two children. We have enjoyed peace in our home and never had any serious problems apart from one or two challenges which aren’t too much for our marriage to cope with.

I love my wife so much and I believe she loves me too; though we did not date before we got married.

Now there is one thing she does regularly which irritates me, she is fond of keeping male friends to the extent that she is still in touch with her old boyfriends. She takes their calls any day and any time. If I ask for the identity of the person she is talking to, she would say a friend she recently met on her way to either the market or any place.

She would add that the person knows she is married but doesn’t mind being her friend.

What has pushed me to seek your help is what happened recently. We were in bed around 10:30 p.m. as husband and wife trying to make love when she received a call.

After about 10minutes on the phone, she told me that it was her old boyfriend who called.

At that point, I didn’t say or attempt to do anything again with her. I simply turned my back on her and slept off. Though she has tried to explain to me that there is nothing going on between her and these men, I have advised her many times to stop keeping them but all fell on deaf ears. I am a kind of person that hates to talk too much and my decision now is to divorce her so she can have time to try those her so-called ‘just friends’.

fellow Niaralander pls help Him
There is noting wrong in a lady having lots of male friends, probably she flows easily with males.
but what i think is she does nt know when to draw the line, that is where respect comes in.
what is to b shared with another male friends that can not b shared wth your spouse (thats d communication link).

I am not saying u shld b suspicious, she may mean no harm. Talk to her and try to share your opinion on the problem. Ask if you can likewise contribute to what she talks to others abt ( cos this is a relationship, no longer abt u but us).

@ OP you chose for your son and it failed, then listen to what he wants.
He wants to go to open university and duration is long. No problem, you need to let him understand that you have no problem with what he wants, but he needs to support himself truout when he starts the open university since he misused the opportunity given to him once. You can assist him to gain entrance into  NOUN and pay 1st session but from from then he is on his own.
There are jobs out there for School cert. holders, you can advice him to get some skills to add to his resume, to get a good pay to support himself.

All the folders are showing but when I click on it, it shows empty but the drive still reads and shows the used space.
I have a lot of important folders in it and i actually fell sick because of this mishap. I've searched online for file recoveries but its way more than what I can afford.
Can anybody he me hear pleasseee!!!
The antivirus has converted your files to system files. You need to enable your system to show system files. If you r using xp: open an explorer, goto tools - folder options - view - scroll down and locate item for folders and option then click on show hidden file and uncheck the next two items below it.
If vista or win 7: open explore- click on organise and folder - look 4 folder option - view - scroll down and locate item for folders and option then click on show hidden file and uncheck the next three items below it

Banks agree fat salaries but your target met = % of your salary to get.
Every company has the right to determine how to reduce cost? So many companies outside naija r downsizing, so airtel is no different.

If we r complaining abt wat they hav done, then d govt shld find a soln to power.

On this one, it's a shared responsibility. I'm not trying to side with banks; however, customers don't have any special protection and are held liable just as much as the bank and in this case, individuals have responsibility to make certain that they fill out the forms etc. Meanwhile, bank tellers are to cross check names and acct # to verify deposit. Quite unfortunate, there is no legal recourse to this, and if even if there was (in this case, small claims court which Nigeria DOESN'T HAVE), for 12k? Brother, if you're in dire need of the money, u have a PayPal acct, I can send $70 to you.
