Now that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is taking closer look at Mr. Mike Adenuga's business empire, including the Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB), Globacom, a multibillion naira communications company, Conoil, an oil company and trying to ascertain their ownership(s) and interests in the concerns, more light is being shed into the perceived involvement and collaboration of sidekicks. The heat is getting to the evil genius and his family. His son, Mohammed has been recently invited, detained and interrogated by the EFCC. Mr. Mike Adenuga was also interrogated and released by the EFCC recently, long before he sneaked out of the nation using the Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) certificate to cross the border by road into Ghana. It is instructive that Mr. Adenuga chose to travel to the United Kingdom from a third nation rather than fly in his private jet. He knew that the EFCC is still investigating him and his passport is still with the agency.

The Khodorkovsky Case: Putin's Men Go to Court
Khodorkovsky, of course, is also not your typical man on the street. He used to sit at the same tables with Putin, and his oil empire was once the largest in Russia, putting him at the top of the clique of oligarchs who effectively ran the country before Putin consolidated power over the past decade. In its copyright infringement suit against Facebook, social network ConnectU has two weeks to come back with a better case.

That was the gist of Judge Woodlock's comments yesterday after hearing Facebook's motion to dismiss the suit in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

In a statement e-mailed to internetnews.com, Facebook spokeswoman Brandee Barker said, "We are pleased with the outcome of the hearing today. We continue to disagree with the allegations that Mark Zuckerberg stole any ideas or code to build Facebook."

John Hornick, counsel for ConnectU, also characterized Judge Woodlock's comments as a positive development.

"The case goes on. The court gave ConnectU an opportunity to amend the complaint and add more facts," Hornick said on a conference call held for the press.

ConnectU is suing Facebook and its founders, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, for copyright infringement, breach of contract, misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, unfair business practices, intentional interference with prospective business advantage, breach of duty of good faith and fair dealing, and fraud.

Those claims stem from what ConnectU founders Cameron Winklevoss, Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narenda in a copy of the complaint describe as a business arrangement wherein Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, then a Harvard student, would develop a "Harvard Connection Code" for a Harvard alumni and student social network.

But instead of working to complete the code, the ConnectU founders say Zuckerberg stole it, registered the domain theFacebook.com and soon after announced his own social network for Harvard students.

Zuckerberg, the plaintiffs allege, was entrusted with descriptions of the ConnectU business model, content concepts, and the type of information that would be collected from users. For stealing this information as well as the "Harvard Connection Code," the plaintiffs seek punitive damages from Facebook and the possible suspension of its operations.

Ian C. Ballon, an intellectual property attorney in the Silicon Valley office of Greenberg Traurig LLP, told internetnews.com Judge Woodlock's comments suggest ConnectU needs to gather more facts to make their case. That might be a challenge, Ballon said, "It is easy to allege a contract or a trade secret, but much harder to prove it.

Ballon is generally skeptical about ConnectU's case.

"It is often the case that when a new business model is successful others come forward claiming that they had created it," Ballon said.

ConnectU has two weeks to amend its complaint before Judge Woodlock once again considers Facebook's motion to dismiss.

We go back and forth on who we support in ConnectU LLC v. Thefacebook, Inc., the lawsuit that alleges Facebook venturetard Mark Zuckerberg stole his billionish-dollar idea from three other Harvard undergrads: bros Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss ’04 and Divya Narendra ’04. On the one hand, social networking sites, including several pegged to college, were popping up all over the place back then, so it’s hard to say Zuckerberg “stole” the “idea” from anyone. And Facebook took off because of its simplicity, not because of any one function that may or may not have been ganked.

On the other hand, the ConnectU guys lay out some pretty scummy facts. They asked Zuckerberg to code a remarkably similar site and made clear that they needed to race to market to succeed. The pasty recluse secretly switched to his own project, while keeping the trio under the illusion he was still toiling away for them. The launch of Facebook caught them flat-footed, and while business is business, we guess, that doesn’t seem quite kosher.

Anyway, thanks to a tipster with Lexis, we’ve looked at some recent court filings in the case. It’s a David vs. Goliath situation; to win against zillion-dollar Zuckerberg — they’re alleging fraud, breach of contract, unfair business practices, copyright infringement, etc etc etc — the Winklevosses and Narendra need to really have their act together. Here’s a portion of a Narendra deposition; see if you can spot the difference between this and the “You can’t handle the truth!!” scene from “A Few Good Men”:

Security: Jonathan lacks political will, says Afenifere


AKURE—THE Yoruba Socio-Political group, Afenifere, yesterday expressed concern over the state of the nation and asked President Goodluck Jonathan to deal with the myriads of problems threatening the continued existence of Nigeria with “a strong political will irrespective of whose ox is gored.”

In a statement by its leader, Chief Rueben Fasoranti, in Akure, the group said it was disturbed “and constrained to call your attention to the situation for a quick redress before anarchy takes over and the state machinery grinds to a halt.”
Negetive forces at work

Fasoranti who said there were negative forces threatening to frustrate the objective of trying to lay a solid foundation for a successful administration of President Jonathan, however blamed President for not demonstrating the political will to tackle the problems.

Afenifere listed the negative tendencies to included Boko Haram activities such as suicide bombing in parts of the country and strikes by organized labour and Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.

It said other problems confronting the country, included the Justices Katisna Alu and Ayo Salami crisis rocking the nation’s judicial system, natural disasters like flood, carnage on the roads and the killings in Jos.

Harvest of bad governance
According to the group these problems were harvest of bad governance, saying “these are just too many negative side of the scoreboard. They should be reversed and all of us with goodwill in this country should rise up to the occasion, but with you dictating the pace.

“Our concern is that such attempts at disintegration and undermining development and progress are parts of the challenges to be expected, we are worried that they are not being met or addressed with serious attention they deserve. For instance, we wonder if all these can be happening without the security agencies having inkling.”

Slams FG over Boko Haram

The group slammed the Federal government for allowing “the Boko Haram to take the initiative. Henceforth, we should not blow hot and cold and occasionally let out vital information of our strategy and the likes for them to work upon and forestall us.

They have so far been dictating the pace and taking the initiative thus beating the government to the game. Criminals are now having the upper hand as any success normally recorded encourages them to plan for and execute more dastardly action. No, All these have to stop.

“Terrorism is a statement that something is wrong and there is the need to quickly go down to its root cause, proffer some solutions and deal with the situation with a strong political will, irrespective of whose ox is gored. More than any other time, these events call for a national dialogue on how Nigeria should continue to exist. You just have to demonstrate political will for Nigeria to continue to exit. That was the mandate Nigerians gave you in April 2011 to do less will be a shame, ” the statement added.

As a profound lawyer in progress, i've got the locus standi to tell you all that, as regards the subject matter(i.e.the act in question), we should all be temperate and see how the case unfolds. Although, it has been majorly condemned(even by a layman like Seun who presumes he knows the law by mere quoting an excerpt of the Criminal Code), the fact remains that you cannot know what the law says about an act except in the court, where its obvious interpretation resides. Hence, it is abjectly inflagrantedelicto to presume the purported rapists as criminals or guilty of violation, when they've not been proven guilty by a lawful court of jurisdiction. Hence, those intimacy-loving dudes should however be referred to as 'suspects' and not to be indicted by some unlearned elitists on this noblest forum. And, even if you've watched the video umpteens, bottomline says "Reps ipso loquitor"(the fact speaks for itself). Albeit for the suspects, and ipso facto(by the fact itself), it should be affirmed that Ignorantia iuris non excusàt(ignorance of the law is no excuse). Finally, in my own prerogative of comment, and as a moralist(by birth and conformity), i can't be unmindful of the moral aspect of this social imbroglio, which i think it's the taping of the whole sleazy show; it is an abuse of 'common sense'!
