Nigerians should celebrate this, as real development should come from grassroots. Our LGs should be independent and autonomous. Some local government have different problems from others, so each solving its problems is the right way to go. Alismosho might want to work on its drainage, Ikoyi local gov might want to install CCTV around its environs, and both will have the funds and autonomy as they see fit. A local gov in rural Kano might want to build a processing plant for its farmers, which might be different from what a local gov in central Kano wants. Waiting for state gov to solve these issues might mean waiting forever! Also, good-hearted governors should embrace it as it means less headache for them. They won’t be called every minutes to be solving trivial issues, so will have more time to solve bigger statewide issues. |
South East traditionally like to play politics that isolate it from the centre. If that’s the politics it embraces, then complaining about marginalisation is self-inflicted. Participating in the major political parties is the best way to show electorates from other regions you can be trusted; so when it’s time for presidential election, you won’t just emerge from no where last minutes, and be asking for votes. You then complain of rigging if not elected. I have nothing against Peter Obi but I won’t vote for him because he is unknown to me. Late Dora Akunyili also from Anambra like him would need no campaign before I identify with her. She was head of Nafdac and her tenure was one of best things that happened to Nigeria. I would have voted for her over Tinubu easily; I’m not from her region. May her soul continue to rest in eternal glory. Moral of the story, participate in APC/PDP/ everywhere, so when chosen as minister, you build your profile nationally with good works, and campaigning for presidency would be an achievable objective. |
Tjra:If England doesn’t win it, it means the Kane’s curse is real. How would you be in 2 consecutive finals and not win at least 1? Your Harry Kane would have to do deliverance in Obioma local gov in IMO State. 🤣 |
You shouldn’t join the military just for money. I know soldiers should be able to earn a decent living while serving their country, but there should be some patriotism attached to it. Some advanced countries have reservists that get paid meagre amount and can be called at short notice to fight. Military service is not for everyone because it needs bravery, dedication and being able to pay the ultimate price for your country. The Nigerian military is currently working on living conditions of our military men, and they shouldn’t relent in their duty. The recently announced life assurance is a big step, together with remodelled housing, pension, and allowances will go a long way in boosting moral. What Nigeria should prioritise is making our military men come back alive by fighting with the best equipment and training. |
I’m very much in support of local government autonomy. Governance should be localised from the grassroots, way up. LG autonomy incoming. Electricity amendment bill signed, so states and local government can generate their electricity Next incoming should be state policing! Federal police should be converted to an agency, like the FBI in USA. They will rein in on the excesses of state police’ abuse of power, act as linchpin between states, and protect Nigeria from organised crime. |
Ebubu2:State Policing doesn’t get in the way. I’m sure once this LG autonomy is ironed out, state police is next. Most govs are in favour of it. Careful planning is what’s needed. Part of the measures when state police is put in place is to stop governors from using it to interfere in any election within the state. |
Good initiative being bought back but the governor should make several changes this time: 1) An hour before the end of environmental, every truck that carries waste should be out to collect all the refuse of Lagosians. 2) There should be sweepers across the state once the environmental finishes to sweep all remaining waste still left on the street. 3) Police and neighbourhood task office should use the “ no vehicular movement “ period to practice and rehearse emergency training procedure across the states. By now, we should have waste recycling in Lagos; where plastics, papers, glass and metals get recycled, and what can’t be recycled is incinerated and used to produce electricity. Also, most of our gutters should be closed and properly connected to various canals across the state. Kudos to the governor for his proactive effort!! God bless Lagos!! |
Good initiative by NRC. It should be extended to other food items too. As the facilities improve, there should be chilled wagons to move perishable food across the country. Great leaders don’t run from problems, they embrace and find solutions to it. God bless NRC leadership. God bless the president |
No one is conceding to any group. What you should know is firstly, herders also take lots of casualties on their side during these clashes. It’s not one-sided as painted. It’s why they are also keen to have ranches. The opportunities are limitless, you have big grazing land, water, electricity, veterinary services, can commercialise your dairy products, leather , etc in large volumes. The gov obviously did a cost-benefit analysis, and cost will probably be providing land, and the benefits are listed above plus Nigerian lives being saved. Secondly, most Fulani own farms; are farmers and are also affected as well. This livestock ministry isn’t conceding victory as such, but ending a perennial problem for good of all. There are situations where herders from different parts of west Africa roam to Nigeria and even attack a settled Fulani farmer. Thirdly, of all the groups that have risen up against Nigeria, Niger-delta militants are still the most effective at their prime, and generous amnesties were granted to them. Their cries were legitimate and late Yaradua heard it and did the needful. President Tinubu is hearing the cries and agonies on all sides, and is attempting to end it. Finally, once their terms have been met by government and they have their lands, etc, Gov will move swiftly to pass a law to prohibit all herding of animals on foot in Nigeria, except in designated ranches. They will have to abide by the law as well, so no preferential treatment. |
The herders/farmers clash has been with us for years, it’s a stubborn problem and won’t go away. It does deserve special ministry, with a genuine heard to spare head it. Most indigenes of Benue that should be farming are in IDPs and being robbed of their livelihood. If the problem goes away, then it’s a sensible decision. |
ElSudani:It’s not discriminatory. We badly need doctors and they decide whether I’m alive to type on Nairaland or dead! Most of them have Japa. If we offer medical students N5 million annually, and nurses N2.5 million annually per semester, we will have enough to go round. We can mandate they spend 3 -5 years before they Japa. We should start using incentives to find solutions to our problems. Also, we need lots of engineers and scientists. |
TheAlchemist:I know he hates competition but he currently has a working refinery that can save Nigeria lots of money. The money saved can then be used to build effective competing facilities for Nigerians. The only way we can get things to work is if private people have vested interest. Nigerian gov can’t run anything. It’s not Dangote’s fault that PH refinery isn’t working currently. |
I like this scheme and student should use it to fund their academic pursuit or training. Because we have shortages of doctors and nurses, I would want FG to exclude medical students and trainee nurses from paying back. I would also exclude trainee students in Maths and sciences from paying, so we flood our schools with lots of science teachers. More science teachers mean more science students to teach, making us compete globally in that sphere. |
With these failures by NNPC? Port Harcourt refinery should be working by now! Also, give Dangote the required crude he needs at international rates to supply locally. The Nigerian gov won’t lose revenue doing that. Once Dangote starts supplying all our local needs, subsidy even if brought back, it would be cheaper than what we pay to international suppliers. The subsidy should last until CNG and solar charging spot for electric cars and lorries are installed across the country. Sun is free, the solar charging infrastructures can be installed in some filling stations, together with CNG. The effects of subsidy removal won’t be felt if alternatives are available in mass quantity. If I bring electric cars to Nigeria, Nigerians will buy in quantity if only the charging spots are ubiquitous. Food transporters will also buy electric lorries, making the cost of food prices cheap, but how will they charge it? Diesel price volatility is partly why there is food inflation. The President should make the energy problem a multi pronged solution. Diesel, PMS, CNG and Solar charging spot should all be available, after which you can say “to hell” to subsidy. |
The president has been called all sorts of names to finally stop the farmer-herder crisis. I think it’s a good initiative because the problem requires urgent attention and a dedicated ministry. Lands need to be reserved and demarcated for the nomads to stay. They can then practice their ranching in the allocated pieces of land. Everything they would require to stay with their livestocks should be provided for. Everything that would make their ranching possible should be provided, from mini grid to clean water, to even feedstocks during arid seasons. Arrangements can be made with local farmers to supply them with feedstocks at a subsidised rate. The essence of doing this is to primarily ensure they stay in their ranches. If they decide to move their livestock, it can only be done by a specialised vehicle. Once that’s done, laws can then be passed by NA forbidding movement of animals on foot across the country. The laws should happen after the herders are Okay with their agreed arrangements. I don’t think they are getting preferential treatment, but rather a kind of farming subsidy like providing tractors or fertilisers to croppers. Once all parties are satisfied, police and army can then enforce the law that forbids herding on foot. Farmers will be then be permitted to own guns, trained how to shoot and provide security around their farms against trespassers. Your land is yours and should not be violated. |
Kudos to Mr Marwa. NDLEA has been so good under his watch that you hardly hear about drug smugglers soiling the name of Nigeria overseas. The body scanners soon to be installed at airports is also a very good initiative. |
TCN should up their game! If it happens again, heads should roll! |
The President should be tough on MR Adelabu. By now, the minister should have achieved 5,500-6000 MW. The most we have ever done is 5,800 MW under Buhari in 2021, so being around that figure is not a tough ask. I would say the minister is on the right path but he should push for more. Some of good reforms under him thus far are; A) Discos are charging more, so more liquidity is to be expected. This should translate to more money going to Gencos and TCN. Government can then withdraw the subsidy all together and focus on regulation. B) Debt to Gencos are being paid and should be settled. Debt to Gascos also being cleared. C) Metering of some Band A customers going on. D) The president is improving the gas generation and distribution infrastructures like the AKK and Ob3 pipelines, soon to be completed. 1)What should happen within the next few months should be broad mass metering. World Bank has provided the loans, so all un-metered customers should be metered. Metering gap should be zero and metres should be free of charge. Metering would incentivise Discos to always provide customers light at all cost because no light to customers means no money. With estimated billings, they still have wiggle room to make dubious money without providing light. 2) TCN’s ongoing projects should be ramped up and they should be ready to transmit 20,000 MW by 2nd year of the President’s administration. 3) With liquidity now going to Discos, minister and Nerc should ensure all Discos are mandated to spend a considerable sum of that money on their infrastructures to distribute at least upwards of 3,000 MW each. 4) NERC should start issuing costly fines to Discos for blackouts due to their faults. If places under EKo Disco experience a blackout lasting more than a day, Discos should be charged N10 million daily or more. I think once Gencos are getting paid more and on time, they will generate more than our installed capacity of 14,000 MW. Also new Gencos, foreign and local will come into the market. Dangote might even join the market once liquidity is flowing. He is already generating 1,500 MW to Dangote refinery. He can easily generate 10,000 MW to national grid but he will make sure it’s juicy before getting in. Other Nigerian Billionaires will join Gencos in no time once liquidity is free flowing. |
lexy2014:I’m sure they will fix it but it will gulp more money than the Idiroko road. Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta axis need proper work with state of the art drainage system, so I wouldn’t want it shabbily done with patched works. Also, some houses near the road that might hamper its development might have to go, and you want them notified in advance and duly compensated. President Tinubu will fix the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta axis before the election to show former President Obasanjo how it’s done. lol. Don’t worry. |
If honourable Minister Umahi can fix this road, then he truly means business. I hope it’s repaired by competent contractors and finished on time. Nigeria needs fixing, let’s all get to work. God bless Nigeria. |
Nigeria has more ex presidents alive than most countries if we think about it. Gowon Obasanjo Buhari Goodluck Jonathan Abubakar IBB It shows Nigeria isn’t as unstable politically or chaotic as being presented on the world stage. God bless Nigeria. |
Federal gov, pls use this opportunity to set up solar-powered charging station across the country. It can run concurrently with CNG gas installations. The solar-powered charging stations can first be piloted in Lagos and Abuja, and replicated across the country. It might not cost the federal gov any penny to install because western countries with big green initiatives can offer grants to install it across the country. It can also be a public/private partnership where the firm chosen is willing to install the charging stations and maintain it with the support of the government. Nigerians can have petrol, CNG and electric vehicle options, so the government is not held to ransom because of either scarcity or rise in the price of petrol. In years time, when electricity supply gets better, people can charge their vehicles from their homes. We can also have the solar-powered charging stations midway where Lorries travel, so transporters moving agricultural goods across the country can buy electric Lorries and recharge at various points across the country. This will eliminate the effects of diesel volatility. |
lexy2014:Banditry is part of the story but not all. Solutions would come up to end it in due course but areas least affected can have the storage facilities. Also, you need these infrastructures to stimulate growth and lift people out of poverty. Good roads and functional seaports lead to improvement in logistics for goods and services, exports, foreign earnings and prosperity. Power generation is the bedrock of any prosperous economy, and improving it output would mean immense prosperity for homes and businesses. You also need money to train and equip your security outfits to protect lives and businesses. All these things require money, and that’s my point. |
lexy2014:You need these infrastructures to increase purchasing powers of Nigerians. They will stimulate growth |
Only thing I don’t want is a 2nd Trump presidency. He was a disaster during his first term, and he organised a failed insurrection against his country on Jan 6 2021. He is also a convicted felon. How can a convicted criminal be the overall commander-in-chief of all the law enforcement agencies in USA? I’m an ordinary cop in USA going after drug cartels, killers, fraudsters, rapists, etc, and my overall head is a convicted felon and an insurrectionist? I’m not for or against any party, but USA can’t have a criminal with little regard for laws as head. It will also embolden criminals and dictators across the world to seek higher offices. |
Elsueno:This current administration is ambitious and wants to embark on mega projects. 1) Modernise our seaports to world standards 2) Take power generation to upwards of 30,000 MW 3) Build 2nd Abuja Airport runways and modernise our Airports 4) Build new railways, roads, bridges, etc 5) Provide student loans 6) Improve security by enhanced payment of security personnel, gadgets, trainings, intelligence gathering, etc 7) Run the entire length and breath of Nigeria with optic fibre cables provide mega storages for agricultural produce9) invest in gas and make it accessible to homes and businesses 10) Invest and improve our Universities. All these require big money, hence why it hasn’t been done before. |
The OP is just trying to mislead the gullible and hasn’t done his homework correctly. Budget are like shopping list of items, and the items only get bought if you have the money. The budget Fmr President Buhari signed in 2023 wasn’t fully implemented because they lacked the funding. What this current administration has simply done is to ask the National Assembly, which is within their constitutional right if parts of the budget that wasn’t fully implemented could be implemented, if we can generate the funds? The NA said go ahead, but we extending it to Dec 2024. If judiciously spent, it would basically mean more projects for Nigerians to benefit from. In my earlier analogy, it simply means the current government will fulfil past and present orders together. So if N2 billion was budgeted for health ministry in the unfulfilled budget of 2023, the health ministry get that money plus the current money, which they are entitled to, thus making them more buoyant to fulfil their objectives. |
It’s actually a good thing as it stops all the bureaucracies involving importation of goods. Also, because Naira is floating, there is no need to monitor what’s being imported. It was done back in the day to prioritise who and what goods can be allocated limited forex if I’m not mistaken. Now, anyone can import anything at the floating exchange rate with ease as long as the product isn’t contraband. |
maestroferddi:You think governance is easy? What demonstrable competence has she shown to indicate she would be better than current government? What’s her personal track record in any sphere? Does she have a successful business, charity, or any enterprise we can make reference to? Peter Obi ran as vice presidential candidate to the same people you label corrupt. He knew he won’t get presidential nomination in PDP, and then switched party. Does that make him any better? |
Once again, didn’t the president of South Africa attend President Tinubu’s inauguration? What Ms Aisha demonstrated was not needed. I don’t think you should celebrate the so called “snub”of a leader against your leader, even though you have grievances against him. It’s like me rejoicing at a racist treatment against a black man I’m not good relationship with, because I have to be smart enough to realise that treatment will come to me at some point. Anyways, this is why people who are in the middle before this election won’t even consider Ms Aisha’s party in 2027.. |
SpatialKing:Portable’s mum and dad are Igbo but he was born in Lagos. That’s why he sometimes put Igbo languages in his song. If you listen to his voice well, u would hear some Igbo accent coming out. We are one. |
They should electrify the tracks with 50,000 volts. This will definitely ensure no one crosses the track! If you have pedestrian bridges, why would you still choose to cross track? |
provide mega storages for agricultural produce
