As a matter of urgency, I would like President Tinubu to prioritise state police before the year ends. States should start putting structures in place, so full implementation can start in earnest. This madness is getting out of hand! |
Anytime there is a southern leader, the north throws this playbook at them. It started during Obasanjo era with Sharia and ethnic killings in the north, was amped up during Jonathan, now they have started again. Obi will not fare better! It’s their modus operandi, to rule and mismanage by hook or by crook. They want power, they tell their boys to commit terrorist acts to make the government look weak. When Kemi Badenoch said she isn’t Nigerian but a proud Yoruba woman, we laughed at her right, all because she said she shares no ties with a region that harbours terrorist, kill the innocent and propagate misery and carnage! |
There are thousands of white men in England that abuse children, etc. Why can’t he call for their death sentence? |
Kukutente23:lol. He said it as part of their agreement. He isn’t insinuating that courts ought to be disobeyed. The overall thing was that there was an agreement. Use ur head. Also, it shows a minister actively riding the wheels of progress. He fixes, and uses free market logic to implement changes. He just settled an ongoing dispute, thereby unlocking revenue for the government. We will also have a functioning 5 star hotel and a conference centre that could host visitors, provide jobs, etc. Good governance is here, some of us just haven’t realised it yet. |
This is huge. Big kudos to Ojulari for completing this project. It basically means that there will be more gas usage for electricity. Power plants can now raise their capacities due to gas availability. Another promise made, promise kept. Next is the completion of the AKK gas line. |
Subsidies should be phased out so that consumers pay cost-reflective tariffs. However, this must be done responsibly and in the right sequence. Before removing subsidies: 1. Clear existing sector debts to stabilise the system and restore investor confidence. 2. Where necessary, raise financing and invest in a robust “super grid” capable of evacuating at least 25,000 MW of power. 3. Once this transmission capacity is in place, proceed with privatisation of the national grid. This can be structured into regional super grids to improve efficiency and ensure that disruptions in one area do not cascade nationwide. 4. Accelerate mass metering. After achieving substantial coverage, enact legislation that criminalises the sale of unmetered electricity. Distribution companies (DisCos) should not bill customers without meters, and any electricity supplied without proper metering should not be chargeable. The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu should recognise that while subsidy removal is a necessary reform, it must be matched with tangible improvements in power supply. Reliable electricity would significantly ease the cost of living by enabling alternatives such as electric cooking (reducing reliance on volatile gas prices) and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles and public transport. Beyond this, a functional power sector would stimulate economic growth. Increased electricity reliability boosts productivity, expands industrial activity, and ultimately raises GDP—creating a broader tax base. In a truly competitive, market-driven environment, generation companies (GenCos), distribution companies (DisCos), and transmission operators would become major contributors to government revenue, similar to how leading telecom firms like MTN Group and Airtel Africa contribute today. This is not wasted expenditure—it is a strategic investment that can deliver significant fiscal returns within a few years. President Tinubu should treat power sector reform as an urgent priority. Done right, it has the potential to be a major economic engine—benefiting both government finances and the everyday lives of citizens. |
reddingtonblack:The reason we having terrorists under democratic gov is because power dynamics isn’t as lopsided as it used to be under military. Use your brain, young man. |
This Disu man doesn’t joke. I’m confident we’ll begin to see results. The only thing I would add is that our police must be constantly trained. Threats evolve, and training should evolve with them. None of us would use a phone or computer running software that was last updated in 1990 — yet for many officers, their last major training was when they left the police academy years ago. There is no reason our police tactical units cannot reach the level of elite teams like US SWAT or Delta Force. If officers are well paid, rigorously trained, and properly motivated, they will be capable of confronting and dismantling terrorist groups effectively. These units should include specialized capabilities — trained snipers for overwatch positions, aerial support units, and agile teams capable of carrying out precise day or night operations. With the right investment in training, equipment, and leadership, our forces can become just as effective in protecting the public and responding to threats. |
NYSC orientation should become a paramilitary training for graduates. They should be taught how to handle and operate different kinds of weapons, military manoeuvres, performing CPRs, rendering first aids, swimming, patriotism and civic duties, how to deal with active terroristic campaigns, etc. After 6 weeks of training in the camp, male and female graduates should know how to operate a gun, what to do when there is a suspicious package, etc. If ever they need to defend themselves either in Nigeria or outside, they will deploy the learnt tactics. |
Kids, stay away from idiots. They like to self destroy and you might be collateral damage!! |
After listening to his speech, what stuck a cord with me is him saying training has to be continuous. Once the Nigerian Police embarks on lifelong training of their personnel, we will begin to see huge effects. The new motto should be: if police officers are not on shift, on leave or retired, they should constantly be on training. |
kclee:Front door, back door, A door is a door. Also, rules are there to make the game much fairer. If Congo can’t abide by the rules, then it’s their problem. |
bigpicture001:You really do not want China getting involved militarily. China actually has more incentive to get involved and go after the islamists because they disrupt their progress, be it rail/road construction, etc. China’s policy to look the other way and focus on business is a decent alternative. |
I hope UK, EU, United Arab Emirates and even China join USA and declare these killers as terrorists. This would mean asset freezes, sanctions, visa bans, interpol arrests should they go out for any kinds of treatment, visits. Innocent lives cut short because of what? |
manuelkel:No one is coming for anyone. If USA is mentioning certain names, it’s purely based on intelligence. Also, ask yourself…. The reason terrorism is persisting and won’t go away is because there are political sponsors financing them, and government has been weak or inept in rooting them out. USA is now determined to put a final end to it, ensuring prayers of victims finally answered. |
valentineuwakwe:Underutilised/abandoned power stations should be added to the list. Also, airports, seaports, pipelines. Anything government built but doesn’t have expertise to run should be sold. |
He did that because he loves Uba like his son. |
Nigeria should establish a national lottery operated by a trusted, privately run and fully accountable firm. 50% of proceeds would go to lottery winners, 25% would be ring-fenced for sports development (serving as counterpart funding), and the remaining 25% would be allocated to clearly defined public-interest causes like orphanages, widows and children of servicemen who died in duty, grassroots sport complex, education, etc. |
skywalker240:Not really. Fossil fuel’s investment is dwindling due to clamour for greener alternatives. Nigeria isn’t an asset as it was back then. Oil was discovered in huge quantities in the late 50s, Nigeria wanted to break apart in the mid 60s, surely there was an asset to protect back then, right? Now, no support for anyone. Look at Sudan, they making them fight it out. |
skywalker240:Britain and USA will support a terrorist, poverty-stricken region kidnapping and killing kids, wanting to go to school?? Core north just got bombed, how is that for support?? |
skywalker240:Britain and USA will support a terrorist, poverty-stricken region kidnapping and killing kids, wanting to go to school?? Core north just got bombed, how is that for support?? Even Muslim predominant countries allow girls’ education. |
What the core north should remember is that if they plan a coup against Tinubu and it succeeds, you can as well say goodbye to a United Nigeria. It’s done!! It’s no longer 1966 anymore!! What particularly helped in 1966 was that the British government at the time were unwilling to allow a newly independent Nigeria to break into pieces, hence the support they gave Gowon. The support they gave Nigeria was the decisive factor. Anyway, let’s allow democracy thrive, as its turn by turn. Buhari’s gov was not disrupted, even with glaring failures and ineptitude, so pls don’t truncate it now, or goodbye. |
President Tinubu should sack Adelabu and replace him with Olu Arowolo or any competent person. Adelabu should go focus on his already failing governorship ambition. |
Some stupid humans and their fixation to keep the human race backwards!! |
I can see why people are jostling to be his vice for 2027, just in case he doesn’t complete his tenure. 😉🤣. Although, anyone he chooses as vice will have a strong footing come 2031. |
What people like Peter Obi do not realise is that once Nigerians start paying taxes, citizens will monitor and challenge their government more through defiance and protest. Currently, the way Nigeria fund itself has little tax burden on taxpayers because the resources that mainly fund these budgets are from the ground, hence why Nigerians don’t demand accountability from their leaders. Any President after Tinubu would also be a beneficiary of government funding through taxation. Citizens will also guard their votes and keep a close eye on elections more, which benefits opposition. Peter Obi might never be president not because he was from the South East but because he isn’t a smart. |
aariwa:False!! Most people that voted for Tinubu in 2023 were coy about it. They didn’t go online. |
Rules are rules. What’s the point of making rules without enforcing them? Ineligible players give countries unfair advantages, hence why the rules are made. Imagine Bukayo Saka or Eze gets drafted for playoff against Congo just like that, won’t Congo be angry? If Congo gets thrown out for breaking the rules, so be it!! You should get your acts together as a country. |
This is actually a good sign that military is committed to ending terrorism in Nigeria. It shows assets are being deployed to fight criminalities. Accidents and mishaps will happen but keep going. With the new approach set by the president, more military procurements are incoming. I’m sure our new Defence minister will also prioritise training by collaborating with the very best to train our armed forces. Thank God the pilots safely ejected and God bless Nigeria and its troops. |
franchasng:Easier said than done? How much is AK 47 in the black market? The attackers came with Ak 47, so if churches with all the tithes and offerings they are collecting can’t buy AK 47 for at least 5 members, then close the damn church instead of getting killed like chickens. Nigeria’s law allow its citizens to carry guns. After churches have purchased the riffles, all they need to do is train the ushers on how to handle it with some tactical military skills. They also need to be trained on how to handle suspicious packages , searches, etc. A terrorist welding an AK 47 only understands one language. The killings are just too much. It’s beginning to feel like ethnic cleansing of Christians in the north. |
All churches across Nigeria should have trained armed guards. Highly trained with better communication gadget. These terrorists can inflict this terror because the civilians are sitting ducks. They are just soulless mindless individuals that just point guns at helpless folks. The government won’t protect you, so you might as well protect yourself. In fact, if you are going to church in the north of Nigeria, carry guns with you. Have trained gun men and women as ushers. |
