Fayemi made the call on Monday at the NYSC orientation camp in Ise/Irun/Emure-Ekiti during the swearing-in ceremony of the Batch “C” Stream Two corps members posted to the state. The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, admonished the corps members to also take the skill acquisitions and entrepreneurship training seriously. He warned them against unauthorised trips outside their places of primary assignments during the service year. “Period of the service year should be a period of deep reflection on your steps to take after service year,’’ he added. The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Emmanuella Okpongete, advised the corps members to participate actively in the various committees in the camp to enable them contribute meaningfully to the smooth running of the orientation course. She also advised them to shun cultism, night crawling and any act capable of putting them into trouble during the service year. Kwara State Governor Abdufatah Ahmed spoke yesterday on last weekend’s by-election. He said in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr Muyideen Akorede, that reports from the four local government areas in which elections were held indicated wide-spread harassment, arrests and intimidation of PDP members and supporters by security personnel. He praised PDP members and supporters across the federal constituency for standing their ground and defying the threats posed by the security agents by coming out to exercise their franchise at the risk of harm and arrest. He said the heightened fear and intimidation orchestrated against PDP members and supporters and abetted by security agents led to voter apathy and poor turnout in the areas that are traditional strong-holds of fhe party. Kwara PDP Chairman Kola Shittu also described the election as a charade Shittu said some of the concerns raised by the party prior to the conduct of the election, which included alleged importation of thugs and heavy deployment of security personnel later manifested during the poll. He lamented that the poll was characterised by ballot box snatching, widespread irregularities and illegal arrest of members of the PDP before and during the election. Shittu called for outright cancellation of the election because it fell short of the expectations of the people of the constituency. He added that the brazen subversion of the will of the people, which the outcome of the election represented was an indication that the APC- led federal government was not ready to deliver free, fair and credible elections in 2019. “The PDP condemns in strong terms the conduct of the by-election and also rejects its outcome, as it does not reflect the will of the people of Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Isin and Irepodun Local Government Areas. “The announcement of the candidate of the APC, Raheem Olawuyi, as the winner of the election by the INEC is daylight robbery, subversion of the will of the people and direct assault on the nation’s democracy. “Indeed, the election was a contest between the PDP and the security agents, as they both collaborated with the enemies of democracy, APC, to manipulate the electoral process and stole the mandate of the people.” http://thenationonlineng.net/pdp-kicks-apc-wins-election-house-reps/

The Ondo State Assembly has accused the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu of interfering with the legislative functions of the State Assembly over Paris Club Fund recently released to the State. Majority Leader of the State Assembly, Hon. Araoyinbo Olugbenga, while addressing the media at the weekend in Abuja blamed the Governor for inducing selected lawmakers to reorder the 2018 budget solely because of the fund. The lawmaker queried why the State Governor had to use the minority members of the State Assembly including two suspended and allegedly impeached Speaker of the Assembly to hurriedly recall and further passed the state 2018 appropriation. Olugbenga, who spoke alongside the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Rt. Hon. Olotu Fatai described the act as illegal and such that could jeopardize interest of the state. According to him, the recalled budget was passed by eight lawmakers who were less than two third of the entire Assembly, thus unconstitutional to laws of the state. Read Also: Akeredolu urged to intervene on Ilaje chieftaincy tussle His Words: “Ondo state people are not incapacitated not to ask deep questions about the Paris club fund after thought explanation. The fact that six members and two suspended and impeached ones presided over the financial matters call for questions. “Minority members cannot reorder the budget so speedily even as government urged and induced them financially to do so. There were spending incurred outside the existing 2018 appropriation law. We asked to be allowed to vet the budget performance for proper accountability in line with rules out the house but the government became jittery.” He alleged further that, “the impeached and suspended leadership have been too compromising against the interest of the masses. All the invasions done to ensure the forceful passage of the governor’s reordering is in direct connection with the NURTW illegal activities within the hallowed chamber”. However, the lawmakers called for the intervention of appropriate authorities and urged the state governor to obey the principles of separation of power in government. http://thenationonlineng.net/ondo-assembly-accuses-akeredolu-of-interference-over-paris-club-fund/

The times are hard and everybody knows that. In their attempt to escape the hardship, most young ladies see it as fashionable to date married men who are rich to serve their selfish interest. Though it has become a trend even when the ladies know they will not marry the married men but only go for their money, Yoruba actress, Dayo Amusa, is advising them against such act. In a recent interview, the actress explained that with karma, such ladies should remember that they will become somebody’s wife some day and will not like the same thing to happen to them because no woman likes sharing her man with another. She said: “Frankly, as a public figure and based on what I stand for, I would not encourage a young lady to chase after married men. Some might say that married men would take good care of them, but it is wrong. It is not something I would encourage the youth to do." She further advised young ladies on being in multiple relationships. She said that: “Also, I do not think that having numerous boyfriends gives you the privilege of having a perfect guy as it could even cause confusion at some point.” The actress who has dropped some singles as she is also embracing music also spoke on the fake lifestyles some actors live. She noted that people should not forget that their business is that of showbiz and that there was really nothing wrong with it if some actors chose to live fake lives. She noted that: “Although social media is a platform that is meant to provide opportunities for people, sadly, most people are misusing it. I do not see the big deal in any artiste going on social media to live a particular life because it is called showbiz. You have to ‘show’ for the business to grow. “You have to brand yourself and make people see that you can promote their products well through the lifestyle you depict. If that is what people mean by fake life then it is fine. As an artiste, we live in a make-believe world which means that 80% of the things you see us do on screen and even on social media are make-believe. “It is totally different from my personality. I might be at home and choose to tie a piece of cloth round my waist and drink garri. But if I would go on social media, I would not want to do that because some of my fans would be disappointed. www.legit.ng/1204518-stop-dating-married-men-actress-dayo-amusa-tells-young-ladies.html

A House of Assembly aspirant for Njikoka state constituency II, in Anambra State, Mr. Emeka Onwubuya, has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the person declared winner of the primary, Mr. Peter Ibida, to the Federal High Court sitting in Awka, urging the court to stop All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from recognizing Ibida as the candidate of the party for the constituency. In his suit, Onwubuya claimed that he defeated Ibida during the party primaries conducted in the area and wondered why the party jettisoned the result of the primaries and forwarded the name of the loser to INEC. He also prayed the court to rule that he (Onwubuya) is the authentic and duly nominated candidate of APGA for Njikoka state constituency II, having complied with all the requirements of the party and having polled the highest number of votes cast by the statutory delegates at the primary election of APGA held on October 4,2018. Among his prayers were: *An order restraining APGA either itself, officers, privies, staff or through any person from submitting the name of Ibida as its candidate for Njikoka state constituency II for the 2019 general election; *An injunction restraining APGA from recognizing, accepting and dealing with Ibida as the authentic candidate or allowing Ibida to participate in the House of Assembly election slated for March 2,in 2019. www.vanguardngr.com/2018/11/apga-primaries-house-of-assembly-aspirant-drags-inec-winner-to-court/

World leaders, including Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari gathered under driving rain in Paris on Sunday to lead global commemorations marking 100 years since the end of World War I, at a time of growing nationalism and diplomatic tensions. Around 70 leaders, among whom were US and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin marked the centenary of the 1918 Armistice in the French capital at 11am local time (1000 GMT). After church bells rang out across France, the leaders sat together at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe for a memorial that included classical music and the reading aloud of letters by WWI soldiers. French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a near 20-minute speech that called on his fellow leaders not to forget the lessons of the past and the hopes of people worldwide for peace. “Ruining this hope with a fascination for withdrawal, violence or domination would be a mistake for which future generations would rightly find us responsible,” Macron told them. He added: “Let us build our hopes rather than playing our fears against each other.” The service concluded with the bugle call that was played at 11am on November 11, 1918 to signal the end of fighting on the Western Front. Ceremonies in New Zealand, Australia, India, Hong Kong and Myanmar began a day of memorial events around the world for a conflict that involved millions of troops from colonised countries in Asia and Africa. The leaders of Commonwealth nations — whose forces were deployed under British command 100 years ago — also sounded a message of peace and hope for the world in the new century. “This was a war in which India was not directly involved yet our soldiers fought world over, just for the cause of peace,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Twitter. “For our tomorrows, they gave their today,” Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison told people gathered at a ceremony in Canberra. British Prime Minister Theresa May and Prince Charles, standing in for Queen Elizabeth, attended a separate remembrance event in London where thousands of well-wishers also paid their respects to fallen soldiers. Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who on Saturday poignantly visited the forest clearing in northeastern France where the Armistice was signed, had signalled beforehand that they intended to use the Paris ceremony to warn about the modern-day danger of nationalism. “This day is not just about remembering, but should be about a call to action,” Merkel said on Saturday. Merkel will give the opening address alongside UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at a peace conference in Paris following the memorial service on the Champs-Elysees. The Paris Peace Forum, conceived by Macron, is intended to highlight the importance of international institutions in helping resolve conflicts, avert wars and spread prosperity. “The aim of the forum is to show that there are lots of forces in the international system — states, NGOs, foundations, intellectuals, companies — who believe we need a world of rules, an open world and a multilateral world,” chief organiser Justin Vaisse told AFP. Despite the show of unity at the Arc de Triomphe, tensions lurk beneath the surface. Trump, whose hardline nationalism has badly shaken the Western alliance, arrived in Paris on Friday criticising host Macron for being “insulting”. The “America First” leader, who faced criticism on Saturday for cancelling a trip to an American cemetery because of rainy weather, will snub the Peace Forum. Other attendees of the memorial service and Forum included Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Canadian premier Justin Trudeau and Israel’s Benyamin Netanyahu, as well as Putin. Sunday’s ceremony was deliberately international and cross-cultural. The French-born Chinese-American cellist Yo-yo Ma, West African singer Angelique Kidjo and a European youth orchestra with a Russian conductor all performed. police were on duty to ensure maximum security in a city repeatedly targeted by jihadists since 2015. Despite these measures, a protester from the radical feminist group Femen managed to jump over a barricade and got within metres of Trump’s motorcade as he made his way up the Champs-Elysees. She was hauled away by security along with two others who were stopped on the edge of the famous avenue. About 70 current-day nations were involved in WWI, which had six empires and colonial powers at its heart: Austria-Hungary, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and the Ottoman Empire. Around 10 million soldiers are estimated to have been killed during the fighting and more than double that number wounded. Between five and 10 million civilians are estimated to have been killed.
