The Lagos state police command says it is yet to receive any report of a missing person four days after someone allegedly jumped into the Lagos lagoon under the third mainland bridge.



On Sunday June 10th, reports were rife on social media that a lady committed suicide by jumping into the Lagoon.



The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Chike Oti, in an interview with LIB this afternoon, said four days after the reported suicide incident, no one has come to the command to say his or her relative was the one that jumped into the river. Oti says the search patrol team is yet to recover the body of any person in the Lagoon.

''No one has come to our office to report that any member of their family is missing or jumped into the lagoon. It is almost four days now and the search patrol in the Lagoon is yet to discover any corpse''Oti said

The police spokesperson called on residents of the state with useful information to come forward with it to help unravel the mystery surrounding the reported suicide incident. He also asked that the man in the SUV on the viral video who reportedly came down from his car to talk the lady who committed suicide, to please come forward and talk to the police so that they can carry out proper investigation.

A man identified as Paul Achegbulu has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for running an illegal blood bank in the Bariga area of the state.

Achegbulu was arrested by a team led by Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal Tuesday after detectives got information that the suspect was draining blood from children in his one-room apartment and selling same to some clinics.

It was gathered that the police team recovered seven pints of blood from his 18, Kusa Bus Stop, Bariga residence.

According to residents, trouble started for the suspect on June 10, after he drew two pints of blood from a 17-year-old boy, Ayomide Adesanya, which made the victim to pass out.
He was said to have also drawn two pints from the same victim on June 4, and on each day, he gave the victim N2, 000.

Imohimi, who also visited Adesanya at the hospital he was admitted after he passed out, told reporters that the suspect lured underage children with the N2, 000 offer, while he confessed that he sold the blood for N7, 000.

He said:

“Adesanya became weak after donating four pints of blood. He collapsed and is currently receiving treatment at the Bariga Hospital.

“The mother told us that the daughter’s friend informed them of Adesanya’s condition after she saw him on a bike.”

But the suspect said he did not know Adesanya was underage, adding that the victim told him he was 20-year-old.

“It was when his parents came to confront me that I knew he was 17. He told me he was 20. I am a lab scientist. I was trained five years ago at Nigerian Institute of Laboratory Science Technology.

“Lab technicians from hospitals used to come and buy blood from me. I used to sell the blood through my assistant, Alfa. He’s the one who knows the hospitals he sold to. I do not know where he is at the moment.”

The police in Gulu district have begun investigating the mysterious death of their own officer who was found dead in a latrine in Layibi division, Gulu Municipality.

Cadet ASP Laban Tukamureeba 36, the officer in charge of Gulu Main Bus Park police post was found dead by his colleagues on Thursday afternoon at Layibi Division community policing police post where he was staying.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident to Daily Monitor in an interview adding that the deceased body was found lying on the latrine’s concrete floor.

He said that the deceased who hails from Rukungiri district had reportedly gone to shower before going to the latrine.

Mr Okema said a bucket full of water the deceased had gone with was found in the bathroom a few distance from where his body was discovered.

He noted that the deceased's body has been taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Morgue pending a post mortem.

“We shall give more details of what could have killed the police officer after the post mortem results are released,” Mr Okema said.

A police officer who refused to be quoted since he is not authorized to speak to the press said the deceased could have died after he collapsed from the latrine

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested two suspected fraudsters for defrauding a victim of N31, 000,000 (Thirty One Million Naira only) in the guise of making "money medicine" for him.



The suspects: Balogun Olumide Ojo and Augustine Opaso were arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. They were arrested based on a petition by their victim, who alleged that the suspects deceived him into believing that he could access his family wealth through some "special prayers" that would offer him "money medicine". One of the suspects, Ojo was arrested at the Reception hall of Presidential Hotel, Port Harcourt where he was waiting to collect more money from the victim.


Investigation by the EFCC showed that the suspects were operating in Port Harcourt and Akungba, Ondo State. Ojo confessed that they were operating a shrine in Akungba where " special money-making prayers" were being offered. A search was conducted at the shrine by the EFCC and different kinds of images and spiritual items were recovered. The suspects also confessed that money was paid into their bank accounts by the victim and in some cases, cash was collected from him to purchase materials needed for the money medicine.

The suspects would be charged to court soon.

Egypt captain and goalkeeper Essam El Hadary says the squad will meet to decide as whole whether to fast in accordance with the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan this year falls as teams prepare for the World Cup with training camps and friendly matches.

Ramadan, a month when Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset, began on 16 May and is due to end just as the World Cup begins.

"We will hold a meeting as a players in the next few days then we will tell the technical staff about our decision," the 45-year-old El Hadary said.

The seven-time African champions play Kuwait in a friendly this weekend before further matches against Colombia and Belgium.

They then kick-off their Group A World Cup campaign on 15 June against Uruguay followed by games with hosts Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Team's director Ihab Leheta pointed out that there would be no influence from the coaching staff on the players' final decision.

"The fasting is up to the players, if they want to do it, the coach won't blame them, let us wait and see what the players will decide," he said.

The Pharaohs' Argentine coach Hector Cuper is aware of how big an issue this is.

"Fasting is the most important issue now, I am afraid that it could badly affect the players at the World Cup," he said.

No fewer than 33 persons have been feared killed in 50 communities in Delta state following oil spillage in the areas.

DAILY POST gathered that the devastating oil spillage, apart from the havoc it wreaked on the people’s sources of drinking water, their farmlands, and the killing of their fish(es), worried residents in the affected area have fled their homes for fear of more trouble.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred on the 24 inches Trans Ramos crude oil pipelines,owned by Shell petroleum Development company in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, and destroyed over 25,000 hectares of farmlands including crops.

Worse hit is Odomodi community among others in Burutu Local Government Area, who are now battling devastating erosion menace.

But Mr Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu 1 constituency at the state House of Assembly who spoke to DAILY POST in Asaba said ,” We at the state House of Assembly are very sad. We sympathise with the people, especially the families of those affected, though shell had put measures in place to contain the spread to other part of the state, and also recover crude oil from the damaged pipelines, the spillage has polluted the entire area, destroyed aquatic life which had made fishing the major occupation of the people impossible’.’

He decried the situation that the report of the joint investigative report consisting of shell, Directorate of petroleum Resources (DPR), and the National oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDR) on the spillage was yet to be made public and emphasized the need for the JIV report to be released,

The lawmaker, however, stressed that the spillage was not as a result of Sabotage, but due to equipment failure on the part of shell, hence the company was trying to avoid its responsibility to the community.

While expressing worries that multinational oil companies have always devised means of shortchanging communities whenever a spillage occurs, the lawmaker said Shell was yet to meet with the communities to discuss with them and assuage their plight

“I call on Shell to immediately provide relief materials and medicals to all the affected communities, it is rather unfortunate that there is a problem at present,” the lawmaker added.

Mr Dere Potoki,Youth President of Odimodi community, one of the affected communities, who spoke to DAILY POST said, ” The spillage occurred in four different points on the crude oil pipelines since April 24, 2018. The action of Shell up until now had not been impressive to us. Imagine over 33 persons are presumed dead, they can’t talk, Shell is more concerned about how to recover crude oil from the damaged pipelines without thinking of providing relief materials to the affected others, we will not take this.”

In a swift reaction, some officials of Shell in Warri who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity said, ” Management is making efforts to assist, and provide materials for the affected communities and relations of the seriously affected people. It’s painful and not true we have neglected them. We are taking our time to assist them.”

The Oyo State Government has asked the federal government to refund N33 billion it expended on reconstruction and rehabilitation of federal roads within the state.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi called for the refund in Ibadan, while receiving a federal government’s delegation to the state, led by the Minister of State for Power, Works and Housing, Suleiman Zarma.

The delegation was on a one-day working tour of federal government projects in the state.

Mr Ajimobi, represented by Olalekan Alli, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), said the first four years of his administration was committed to road construction and rehabilitation.

He stated that a huge amount was expended on the projects and the money had yet to be refunded by the Federal Ministry of Works.

Mr Ajimobi said the funds expended should at the completion of the projects be released to the states through the ministry in charge.

The governor called for speedy completion of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway under reconstruction as well as the Oyo-Ogbomosho expressway, which had claimed several lives.

He noted that some workers of the state government recently died in an accident on the road while on official duty.

“Roads in some parts of the state such as Iseyin-Okeho, Iseyin-Baasi-Ago-Are, Oyo-Iseyin and Saki Polytechnic and Saki Junction-Agric roads are all begging for urgent federal government intervention,” he said.

Mr Ajimobi said that the state government would have embarked on the rehabilitation of the roads which he said were of economic importance to the state, but for paucity of fund.



He, however, called on the federal government to hand over the maintenance of all federal roads in the country to the respective state governments.

The governor reiterated his administration’s support for the ongoing national housing projects in Ogbomosho and Ibadan.

He stated that the additional land requested by the Federal Ministry of Housing for the second phase of the housing project had been approved.

Mr Ajimobi said that the necessary land documentation in terms of titles for both phases would be made available.

Earlier, Mr Zarma appreciated the state government’s hospitality, saying the delegation had visited Ekiti and Osun before visiting Oyo State.

He gave the assurance that the federal government was committed to completing its road projects across the country.

Mr Zarma said ongoing federal government’s projects across the country were to improve commerce and bring the nation out of recession.

The Lagos State police command has arrested a 42-year-old driver, John Ololo, and his partners in crime who used to give stranded ladies lift in order to rob them. .

According to Newtelegraph, Ololo also confessed that he used the money made from the robberies to augment his monthly salary. The suspect was arrested alongside his gang members, Augustine Emmanuel (21) and Anayo Oluchwku (25). .

Police said that the gang used to rob ladies returning from clubs of their phones and other valuables. After Ololo conceived the idea of using his company’s car to rob, he recruited Emmanuel and Oluchwku. .

Whatever money made during operations was shared equally. He said: “My boss usually allows me to take the car home because of where I live. There was always the need to drive to my boss’ home to pick him.

I have been taking the car home for about a year now. Sometimes, when I’m going to the office, I pick passengers along the way. Our modus operandi is to dress well and go to any club. .

After clubbing, we would offer ladies free ride; we usually pick two ladies. Once they enter, one of us would bring out a toy gun and threaten to shoot them. We would dispossess them of their valuables. .

I have collected many phones from ladies since I started this operation. My monthly salary is N65,000. Unfortunately, the salary is not enough. That was why I decided to use the car to rob. .

The money I make from robberies is to supplement my salary.” On his part, Oluchkwu said: “Unfortunately, last Saturday, we were returning from one of the clubs when policemen arrested us at Lekki roundabout.” .

Mrs. Bolanle Ambode, who is the wife of the Governor of Lagos State, has come to the aid of a woman who reportedly gave birth to a set of quintuplets in Lagos. The first lady of the state offered to give the family a monthly allowance of N500, 000 for the next twelve months, for the care of the babies.

The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Obiefuna of Orile Iganmu, a suburb of the State were reported to have been filled with so much joy and appreciation at this largess by the wife of the governor.

Quintuplets are five babies born from one pregnancy.

Other welfare arrangements by the Governor’s wife for the newborns include: supply of diapers for one year; supply of baby milk and other essentials for one year, all these in addition to two bus-loads of baby essentials like beds, mattresses, diapers, boxes of cloths, socks, pants, caps, etc, that accompanied her on a visit to the infants, at the Lagos Island Maternity.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode also gave an undisclosed sum of money, for the care of the babies; three boys and two girls, who weighed between 1.5kg and 2kg respectively.

Speaking at the maternity ward, the Governor’s wife who was visibly elated and brimming with smiles, thanked God for the safe delivery of the infants and commended their mother, for regularly attending her ante-natal sessions in a government hospital.

She urged expectant mothers in the State to shun quacks and self medication, but to register early and diligently attend ante-natal clinics in government hospitals, for standard medical care.

According to her:

“You can all see why it is good to register in a government hospital where standard medical care is guaranteed. This woman registered early and regularly attended her ante-natal clinics. The result is that all five babies were safely delivered to the glory of God”.

She commended the entire medical team, especially the Consultant, Dr. Ogungbemile Babalola, for their professional service, stressing that the government would always prioritize health care service for expectant mothers, to eradicate maternal and infant mortality in the State.

Mrs. Ambode, who later inspected the maternity ward, promised further donations to the hospital, to strengthen maternal and infant service delivery in the hospital.

Father of the babies, Mr. Augustine Obiefuna, copiously thanked the Governor and his wife, for their rare benevolence and generosity, which according to him transcended ethnic and tribal considerations.

He said:

“We are surprised that despite being non indigenes of the State, the Governor and his wife could show us so much love and kindness. They are just wonderful. We never imagined that Her Excellency could personally come here to see our new babies. We cannot stop praying for them and their children, for God’s favour, protection and wisdom at all times.”

It the first set of quintuplets born in the State this year.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the refusal by President Muhammadu Buhari to address the devastating strike action by health workers across the country, is a clear manifestation of his insensitivity to the plight and suffering of Nigerians.

We lament the anguish of hundreds of Nigerians who are abandoned and dying by the day in our public hospitals, just because President Buhari and his dysfunctional All Progressives Congress (APC) attach no importance to issues that concern the average Nigerian.

Is it not the height of insensitivity that while Nigerians in dire need of medical attention are languishing, President Buhari abandoned them without any form of intervention and embarked on medical tourism in London with our common patrimony?

As if that was not enough, upon his return to Nigeria, instead of summoning an emergency meeting of critical stakeholders to find solution to the problem, Mr. President abandoned the striking health workers and chose to organize and attend a political rally in Jigawa state for a doomed 2019 re-election bid.

Such aloofness by the government is directly responsible for the escalation of killings and bloodletting in Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, Plateau, Kogi, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna states and others parts of the country, where marauders and insurgents are pillaging our citizens as if overlooking the plight of Nigerians has become a state policy.

In the PDP, the health, security and welfare of Nigerians remain pivotal to us and that is why we feel pained that compatriots are dying in their numbers because of the refusal of the Buhari-led APC administration to address the health workers’ strike.

The PDP, therefore, stands with Nigerians at this critical time. We identify with the sick and those who have lost their loved ones under this present circumstance and urge all public-spirited individuals, humanitarian organizations and the international community to come to the aid of our nation, since it has become clear that the Buhari administration has no agenda for the health sector.

Furthermore, while we plead with the health workers to be open to ways to solve the problem, we charge Nigerians to support one another and adhere to all health etiquettes to forestall an outbreak of epidemic and health crisis.

Finally, the world have now seen why Nigerians have reached a consensus not to allow this insensitive and anti-people APC administration to continue beyond 2019.

Things have changed in Enugu State. It is no longer business as usual, the top-down approach with little regard to the needs of the people, the exaltation of the urban guerrillas, a dictatorship, not of the masses, but of the para-juntas, mostly self-appointed chiefs without coronation. A community-centred and grassroots-oriented empowerment programme has been enthroned.

All over Africa democracy has been government of the rich, by the rich and for the rich: a well-structured plutocracy masquerading as democracy forgetting that the root word “demos” in the original word stands for people.

One of the first things Chief Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi did on assumption of office as Governor of Enugu State was to democratize our democracy. Each of the over 450 autonomous communities in Enugu State was told to select five projects to be executed in their communities and write them in their order of priority, the first is a legacy project that will not only transform the lives of the people in the community now but will benefit generations yet unborn.

This was not only historic, it was innovative, catalytic and salutary.

The first community development project is a community project chosen by the people and capable of speeding up development in all other sectors of the community. Prior to now, what was in practice was pick a project, take your cut and dump it on the community. Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu would turn in his grave with happiness and gratitude that at last the urban guerrillas and all the self-appointed chiefs even without umunna or a kindred have been dumped in the ESWEMA landfill sites for good, no ten per cent upfront commission paid to anybody for parading the corridors of power.

This singular initiative by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State of ‘one community, one project’ instilled the real meaning of democracy in the people of the state: it truly became government of the people, by the people and for the people. Again for the first time democracy became participatory, not in word, but in deed. The choice and execution of the project was left entirely to the people.



Igwe of the community automatically began to live the true meaning of his title as “Igwe na-ezoro Oha’, the heaven that drops the rain for everyone. In addition the befitting epithet of “Nnaanyi” was added to the Igwe as a true father in fact, the man through his agency the community received the benefaction of the government, a tranche of N10m (ten million naira) in two instalments for a project of their choice in their community. Also a new synergy developed between the traditional ruler and the president of the town union.

Governor Ugwuanyi’s novel approach to community development has a medicinal value. State capitals and other cities around them in Nigeria have been blighted by abandoned projects. No project in any of the recipient communities that has been given the first five million naira (N5m) or the first and the second totaling ten million (N10m) should be allowed to be abandoned whether carried out by a contractor or executed through direct labour.

While the Millennium Development Goals did not attain their set goals in the world by 2015 as envisaged in the year 2000, the Sustainable Development Goal is hitting its critical target in Enugu State. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has empowered the first and second batches of trainees totaling 750 from the seventeen local governments in Enugu State by giving everyone that has completed the training the seed money to start their own business and not flock to Enugu, the capital city, in search of jobs.

After one year from now, the government should audit all the projects to ensure that each one of them has been executed to specification and in record time. Anything short of absolute completion is not good enough and should be regarded as economic sabotage capable of being referred the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) for the prosecution of offenders.
