Politics / Re: FG Should Listen To The Ceasefire Call By BOKO HARAM - Lai Mohammed by richardomoko: 2:42pm On Feb 25, 2015
Two mouthed APC. Not to be taken seriously. If truely they had an answer all this while, they would rather hold the 'solution' and watch innocent people perish because of their desperation for power.
samoks:
The All Progressive Congress have always said that Goodluck Jonathan does not have the insight and capability to secure Nigerians from boko haram. That it is only the APC presidential candidate, Mohammadu

Buhari that can squarely end the insecurity challenges.

Now they are saying Pres. Jonathan should listen to ceasefire, they want boko haram to gain time and regroup, their plan won't work"

So far, Boko haram has lost almost all their camps in Bornu, Yobe and Adamawa, they are now distributing flyers in Potiskum Yobe, Adamawa State asking for ceasefire as they flee for safety.

Should federal government now listen to the call by APC spokesman Lai Mohammed to a ceasefire deal which he said that Federal government should use this time to dialogue with the insurgence group.?

Are these not the same men castigating the army and federal government that they are incompetent and that the army can not flush these barbarians out of our land?

It's clear to see a person or group ideology or interest when they start showing sympathy for what they love. Apc have even started insinuating that Federal government is holding a fake SHEKAU to indict their presidential candidate.

How would Apc know the fake if they don't know the original? after all, Chief Femi Fani Kayode said in his last interview on channels TV that boko haram nominated buhari as their spokesman in 2012, this really speaks volume of who we are dealing with.

Nigerians be wise, APC is full of lies, deceit and propaganda. They mean no good for Nigeria.

Politics / Re: APC Carpets Jonathan Over Boko Haram, Hails Military by richardomoko: 2:35pm On Feb 25, 2015
Do you expect the APC to give any credit to GEJ? I think not. Some are saying now that APC stalwarts ran to the UK because they are afraid of being linked or rather roped in as sponsors of boko haram by arrested insurgents.
iwaeda:
The All Progressives Congress has said President Goodluck Jonathan “bears a huge moral responsibility that will hunt him for a long time to come” for allowing the Boko Haram menace to fester, leading to the deaths of over 15,000 Nigerians and the displacement of over 3 million others in the past six years.

In a statement issued in London on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party also hailed the military for the successes it has recorded in the battle against Boko Haram in recent times, saying the string of victories confirms the party’s stand that the Nigerian military can hold its own anywhere and anytime, if provided with the necessary equipment and if the morale of the troops is not undermined.

President Goodluck Jonathan has finally owned up to his globally-acknowledged incompetence, a development which, in truly democratic societies, should be part of a statement of resignation by a leader whose terrible error of judgement has caused so many deaths and inflicted so much pain and sorrow on his compatriots.

APC said the truth is that President Jonathan deliberately allowed the Boko Haram crisis to fester because he and his team saw it as their trump card for winning re-election in 2015 by currying local and global sectarian sympathy with a Muslim-group-killing-Christians narrative that totally distorts the fact that Boko Haram is a band of marauders who have no consideration for ethnicity, regionalism, religion or any other thing beyond their mad disposition to terror.

The party said the marauders are equal-opportunity killers who went after Christians, Muslims, northerners, southerners, men, women, the old, the young, the rich and the poor.

Politics / Re: Afraid That Their Sponsorship Of Boko Haram Is About To Be Revealed? by richardomoko: 1:47pm On Feb 24, 2015
Buhari has also run to the UK as he is afraid that the growing successes of the military would expose his folly. Now maybe we would find answers to questions we had at the initial stage of this conflict. Questions like who is the sponsor of the helicopters that dropped food and ammunition to the insurgents when they were in Sambisa forest?
pigin:
The APC is now making a false
claim that the Nigerian Military is
planning to capture a fake Shekau
who would confess Buhari's
sponsorship of the insurgents. This
statement was made after the
presidency directed the military to
make sure that the man who has
been releasing videos as Shekau
does not escape but captured

With this statement by the APC,
it's crystal clear that they are
behind all the atrocities ravaging
our great country, Nigeria.

Jimi is the man for Lagos. Please sir when you win remember the people who the present administration in collaboration with the former governor want to take their ancestral land away from them at Ibeju Lekki and other places.
sammiestar:
The Honourable Governor B.R. Fashola (SAN) has lied again and I think it's time to address his repeated blunder.
With regards to my taxes, there is no truth in this latest piece of misinformation that the Honourable Governor has been peddling. Following the repudiation of his initial allegations about JAYKAY PHARMACEUTICALS unpaid taxes, he has lied again, giving the impression that my company has gone to pay money supposedly owed to the government.

JAYKAY PHARMACEUTICALS has not paid a kobo since the day the Honourable Governor launched his initial attack. We stick to the facts contained in its initial publication, which encapsulated the company's reaction to the Governor’s initial falsehood. To now insinuate that I have gone behind the curtains to pay N500,000 is clearly political silly season, for lack of a better phrase, and quite frankly, beneath your person.
It's understandable that we've both had our differences in course of this election season, but when the Honorable Governor goes about launching unbridled, flat-out-false attacks at me about something as important as taxes, you leave me no choice but to call you out, Sir.

When I got into this race, I decided to make it about the issues. My opponents, not so much. They talked about me being inexperienced and at some point they said I was too old to govern and we responded with BOLD IDEAS intended to put Lagos on a new trajectory - one that is NOT based on the Jagaban's tax-and-spend economics but on a framework that would radically push us to new economic frontiers for some of the most under-developed regions of the state like Epe and Ikorodu. They ridiculed our ideas around government-enabled free wifi hotspots across the city - an idea targeted at widening the reach of a world of knowledge that the Internet offers to our young and aspiring populace - especially in areas of low penetration. They called it bold ignorance and out of touch with reality yet they quickly went on to implement wifi Internet-enabled buses a couple of weeks after. As much as we're glad that our BOLD IDEAS inspire you as much as they do us, one must begin to question the seriousness of the opposition in Lagos to make this election about the issues.

How ever you cut or dissect our success as a state over the last 16-years, the fact is that Lagos in the Economic intelligence Unit (EIU) is still ranked 137th out of 140 cities listed in the liveability index. This means that if you take 140 ...

APC again with its silliness. They are now making up stories and using allusions of a faceless general. Please you guys would stop at nothing short of accessing GEJ of being the sponsor of boko haram. In your story as you claimed that the army had superior intelligence report to execute and finish the war before April last year, again you make suggestions that they are winning the war now only because they are implementing the said report of last year. My take is this, in some quarters the APC and it's apologists never want to give our soldiers any benefit in this campaign as any victory scored was credited to the regional coalition forces instead of our gallant soldiers. How come now you are purporting that the gains we are making is only as a results of the implementation of a bogus report? Please there was no regional force last year and the gains we are making is as a result of regional cooperation and the courage of our gallant soldiers whom you have always failed to give any form of credit. God bless Nigeria.
Morikaih:

Two Generals Purportedly Express Shock Over Jonathan’s Boko Haram War Politics

Two Military Generals have expressed shocked why the Federal Government and the President have decided to play politics with the fight of insurgency in Nigeria. One of the Generals who spoke on anonymity said

“I am still unsettled why on earth the President decided to play politics with the fight against insurgency in Nigeria. Last year, before the appointment of the current Chief of Defence Staff, there was an intelligence report from the DMI on how we could end the insurgency in the North East. The CDS read the report, was highly impressed and ready to implement it. It was based on that report from the DMI that the CDS announced that he would end Boko Haram by the end of April last year. The CDS had that zeal and agility until he debriefed the presidency. As officers, we don’t know what the briefs were, but the officer and men noticed that the enthusiasm and spirit that burned in the CDS just dropped. The existing command structures were immediately adjust and special units created.”

He added further: “the command and control system became incoherent and uncoordinated. The men were deployed to bits and without clear reasons and intelligence, they were recalled or sometimes redeployed to other bits. The sad part of it is that these postings and repostings were done in an unprofessional manner that it rendered the officer and men vulnerability and prone to attacks by the insurgents. You were aware of how some of our men were ambushed and killed. To cover up, it was reported that it was an insider information that sold them out. There was no such insider but the unintelligible orders issued by the unit and leadership.

He continued: It was then officers and men began to complain at different levels over the lose of their colleagues. Today, I am glad that the Presidency and the CDS have fallen back to the same Report from the DMI which the Military had before the CDS was appointed and we can see the progress the Military is making against the insurgents. My only question to the CDS is why did we not use that Intelligence Report. Why did we wait till now before we used intelligence report”

Another Col Kuwe, who is currently on AWOL for not obeying some orders which according to him would have put the insurgents in possession of some military hardwares said: “President Goodluck Jonathan must tell Nigerians why he inflicted this level of wickedness and pain on the people of the North East and Nigerians in general. He can not deny his involvement, but he must tell us his motive. You can see that all of a sudden the military is beginning to win the war against the Boko Haram. Is there a new military? No. Did you hear of any special training of the men? No. Did the terrain change? No. So what is the sudden magic? The answer is the demonstration of political will: the military leadership has now allowed for the adoption of a proper military tactics and strategy”

He continued: “Take my case for instance; what was my offence? That I didn’t allow Boko Haram to capture our Military Hardwares. I was in-charge of a military formation at Baga. We had military hardwares, including APCs which had some mechanical and operational challenges at the time. As part of our rules of engagement, if you are under enemy aggression and you have military equipment which you cannot evacuate, instead of allowing them fall into the use of the enemy, you are obliged to destroy them. This is an international military rule and applicable to Nigeria. When we got intelligence reports that the insurgents would attack our base, we called for reinforcement, for more than 14 hours we never got the any help. When the Insurgents eventually came and we were been overrun by superior firing power with several of our men being killed, instead of allowing the insurgents to capture those equipment, I ordered that they should be destroyed before we took a retreat. Sadly, that is why I am been persecuted. My offence is: why did I not allow Boko Haram members to capture those equipment, which they would have used to unleash further acts of terrorism on the Nigerian people”

“Remember that America sent some personnel to aid our operations shortly after the kidnap of the Chibok girls. The question is: why did they withdraw? The Americans came here and in less than no time, they assisted us to locate the exact position of the kidnapped girls. We were still mapping out strategy for their rescue when a top military chief sabotaged the move. He came out public to say the military had found the position of the girls, he almost gave the exact location. What was he expecting, that the insurgents should keep the girls at the place, waiting for the military after such lead? The Americans considered that highly unprofessional and risky for the safety of its men. They felt that our military was sabotaging itself and they pulled out.”

The Col added: “Now, because President Jonathan wants to score a political point, the military is recapturing all the towns taken over by the insurgents; women who were hitherto kidnapped are now been released seamlessly and in very inexplicably circumstances. What is the magic? Who is fooling who? Don’t get me wrong, I am very pleased that we are beginning to win the war, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Some of us are compiling materials for his prosecution before the International Criminal Court of Justice. President Jonathan must be made to explain his role and motive in the genocide that he allowed to take place in the north East, if not now certainly later.

I can see that the writer lacks understanding or he chooses to reason before jumping to his warped conclusions. Agreed the boko haram issue has been with us for sometime, but in the past Nigeria was in it alone and whenever our soldiers pursued the insurgents they would run through our porous borders into neighbouring countries. We have been asking our neighbours to join us in this war since with so many visits back and fort. However speaking it all boils down to agreeing and the signing of bilateral agreements which has caused the delay only until now. This was the reason the NSA asked for an extension of the elections. But of course the desperation of the opposition would not allow them to reason rightly.
fyneboi79:
Before you jump to making any comments ask yourself these questions.

1.How easy it seems now to curtail Boko haram after the 6 week full war declaration. This is a sect which has revaged d north and killed thousands over a period of more than 4 years.

2.How casually Nigerian soldiers are pictured interviewing a so called captured terrorist dressed as a female who's has supposedly killed innocent civilians. No hand cuff and was not stripped of his disguise yet.

3.Was Boko haram an intentional plot to garner votes during elections by claiming defeat and efficiency of the fed govt.

4.Is it possible pdp used peoples lives and innocent children as a negotiation tool?

Doesn't it seem weird that the so deadly and invisible sect has suddenly become visible in less than two weeks of election postponement?

Politics / Re: Egypt Calls For A Nigeria-Egypt Led Force Against ISIS In Libya by richardomoko: 12:58pm On Feb 24, 2015
You guys saying that Egypt should leave Nigeria out of this don't understand what you are up against. Don't you realise that you are already in a fight with them? Boko haram is a part of ISIS if you don't realise this. Only last week Cameron captured some French nationals fighting with BH. If you think what you are fighting here is strictly Nigerian matter then you have it all wrong. I wish I can be recruited as well to fight this insurgency in whatever way I can. God bless Nigeria.
papaejima1:
The Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Ashrat Salama, has called on Nigeria and the Africa Union (AU) to collaborate against the terrorist group, Islamic State and ensure the establishment of a multi-national force against it.

This, he said, is necessary to ensure that the terrorist group does not spread on the continent.

Speaking against the backdrop of air strikes recently carried out on IS targets in Libya by the Egyptian Air Force, Salama told journalists in Abuja monday that contrary to the propaganda by IS, no civilian was killed in the offensive.

Egypt carried out the offensive on IS training schools and ammunition storage in Libya in retaliation for the beheading of 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians by the group.

Salama particularly noted that it was necessary for Nigeria to work with Egypt to combat the terrorist group because both nations are not far from each other.

Both nations, he added, could also lead the call for a multi-national force on the continent as powerful voices in the AU.

“Nigeria is already achieving results with the multi-regional force with Chad, Cameroun and Niger, so we need something like this as we are dealing with similar issues,” he urged.

Although Egypt is ready to work to secure the region, the matter of IS is a bigger issue, he added.

“We can do this by sharing information, mobilising forces, co-ordinating strategies, form a coalition from the AU to be supervised by a multi-task force. If you do not support the fight against the terror group because it is not in your country, before you realise it, it could be in your neighbourhood,” he said.

The envoy added that to be nonchalant about IS is like shutting one’s door against fire.

“It is too big for Egypt alone, you cannot go just because you are provoked, you have to plan well. We must not give a chance to these terrorists,” he added.

The igbos have a proverb which says that a head hunter (one who thrives on cutting off heads of human beings) would forever hide his neck when he sees farmers going to their farms with cutlass. Because the army has instructed it's soldiers to try as much as they can to capture shekau alive the APC is now concorting all these stories and casting all manner of aspersions. Who is desperate here? If shekau should indict Buhari would this come as a surprise? I honestly pray that if captured it doesn't come out as such.

Praise God we are winning the war against terror. The LORD would give us ultimate victory in JESUS mighty name.
Olamitisoji:
Following the spate of recent successes recorded by troops against boko haram insurgents in the north eastern parts of the country, Nigerian troops have been put on red alert for any insurgents’ leader bearing the name of Imam Abubakar Shekau who is believed to be desperately looking for escape routes.

A senior military source however, informed that troops have been urged to try at all costs to capture Shekau alive so that he would face justice.
On at least two occasions now, troops have killed characters calling themselves Abubakar Shekau in videos but the insurgents manages to find other individuals looking like him and pretend that he was still alive.

The order to catch Shekau alive is therefore to ensure that it will no longer be possible to resort to the same trick.
According to sources, the rumour about Shekau’s invincibility is one of the factors that troops are afraid to confront the terrorists.

Meanwhile troop’s morale has been greatly boosted in recent times by arrival of sophisticated armaments and the decision of senior military officers to lead the war against terror directly which also influenced the change of some commanders.

An intelligence sources disclosed that some of the successes recorded in recovery of big towns in the North-East were due to deployment of new strategies, improved disciplinary measures, and sincerity of participating countries in the regional alliance and the acquisitions of latest equipment.

In the past, Colonels have led direct attacks in accordance with military tradition but because of the large scale desertions recorded, Military Generals then decided to directly lead the war and this has greatly boosted morale.
It was even learnt that many of the troops that earlier deserted have returned while others have expressed desire to return to the front.
Within a week of the massive operation, the troops have recovered Monguno, Marte, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa among other big towns and several surrounding communities in Borno State.

The source added that “with acquisition of new equipment from various sources and the specialised training of the troops on guerrilla warfare, the military indirectly called the bluff of some deceptive western countries who are now trying to save face by claiming to work with our neighbours.

“The effective collaboration and mutual relationship with our neighbours is paying off as they now realise that inactions can pose disasters to their countries too,” he concluded.

I wonder how some people reason. Instead of encouraging our military men for a good job done, politics would not allow them see reasoning and instead find ingenious means to discredit our gallant soldiers. God is watching.
1LRNZH:

Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade

Regional forces to become operational next month
DHQ dismisses insurgents’ surrender leaflets
Yemi Adebowale in Lagos with agency report and Senator Iroegbu in Abuja

Nigeria’s security chiefs may have unilaterally decided a time framework to subdue Boko Haram terrorists, when they said they needed six weeks to accomplish the task, beginning 14 February. This is because the shape of the regional force Nigeria is relying upon to flush out the insurgents is yet to be concluded.

Also on Friday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) dismissed the recent report of an helicopter distributing pamphlets implying the surrender of some members of the Boko Haram terrorists.

Although Nigeria’s armed forces in league with neighbouring armies of Niger, Cameroon and Chad have since stepped up the war against the insurgents, bombarding camps inside Nigeria, the real ground-and-air offensive is not scheduled to begin until end of March, when the regional force will become operational.

A senior Niger Republic military officer disclosed in an interview with Reuters in N’djamena, Chad, that the shape of the regional force Nigeria is relying upon to flush out the insurgents would be concluded by the end of March.

Military chiefs of Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Benin and Niger will meet in the Chadian capital N’Djamena next week to finalise strategy for the 8,700-strong task-force of regional troops, said Colonel Mahamane Laminou Sani, director of documentation and military intelligence of Niger’s armed forces.

“All we are doing right now is stopping Boko Haram from entering Niger: if they attack our positions we push them back a certain distance and Nigeria pushes from the other side to contain the situation,” he said, on the sidelines of the annual US-sponsored ‘Flintlock’ counter-terrorism exercises in Chad.

“There are initiatives by our countries to make sure Boko Haram doesn’t get out of control, but we have a deadline of end-March to put the joint force into practice,” he told Reuters late on Wednesday.

Highlighting the cross-border threat, militants attacked Niger overnight, killing three before they were driven back.

“The force’s first commander will be a Nigerian and the position will then rotate annually among members,” Sani said.

The implementation of the force has been delayed by tensions between Nigeria and Cameroon over the right to pursue militants across the border into each other’s countries, sources said.

Niger and Chad already have agreements in place covering that with each other and with Nigeria.
Nigeria and Cameroon will be under pressure to iron out their differences.

“This should be the last meeting, I think. We don’t have any choice. If we don’t go and find Boko Haram, they are going to come and find us,” Sani said.

“Niger’s military has carried out air strikes against Boko Haram positions and used ground forces to mop up the survivors,”
Sani said.

Sahelien.com, a regional news website, reported raids by Niger’s troops who entered the Nigerian town of Marara on February 15 and air strikes on Damasak on February 16. A security source said the reports were accurate but gave no further details.

Sani denied the Niger air force was responsible for an attack on Tuesday that killed at least 36 civilians at a funeral in the border village of Abadam.

A local mayor said he believed a Nigerian military plane was responsible.
Nigeria has denied this and Niger has said it is investigating.

“Air power will play a key role but ground troops will then be used to neutralise survivors in the wooded and mountainous terrain occupied by the Sunni jihadist group,” Sani said

“Information on their location needs to come from human sources first, then you send technological resources to check it, and you maintain observation on them until air strikes arrive,”
he said.

Asked whether the U.S. military could help with drone intelligence on fighters’ movements, he said: “That is already a reality. They help us in that sense.”

“This is no longer an issue of national security for Nigeria; it’s a question of regional and international security. If Nigeria implodes, then the whole of Africa will feel it,” he said.

Boko Haram is said to have between 4,000-6,000 fighters, according to US intelligence report. The insurgents themselves estimate their forces at 30,000. Subduing them, in the view of military analysts, may not be as easy as ending a six-week affair, reports Reuters.

Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters has dismissed the recent report of a helicopter distributing pamphlets implying the surrender of some members of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorists in some parts of North-east.

The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said if such action was taken at all by the so-called repentant terrorists, it could not be genuine.

According to Olukolade, "That is not how to surrender. There are proper ways of surrendering and making amends. I am sure if such report is true, it is not how to surrender".

He insisted that the military was much concerned with sustaining their ongoing offensive and completing the routing of the Boko Haram terrorists from there enclaves.

It could be recalled that thousands of terrorists have been killed and major towns and communities recovered since the renewed onslaught involving forces from the neighbouring Lake Chad Commission countries of Chad, Cameroun and Niger Republic. In the last two weeks strategic towns like Mongonu, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa, and Marte have been recaptured, while Baga and Bama is on the mop up stage with new fronts of aerial bombardment opened in Sambisa and Gwoza.

Speak on my sister, but you ought to have spoken out before now. Let us know their atrocities, those who don't want the youths to take the reigns of leadership.
rexington:
Why am taking a swift from supporting General Buhari . Just few hours ago, Obasanjo endorsed General Buhari as the man to deliver this nation. I was personally shocked, when I heard the news. This is because, I was expecting Baba to stay at the touch line, and leave Nigerians to study his body language. But the masquerade could not control his dance in the public market. Hence he mistakenly flogged his own mother who is also a trader in the market.
Nigerians, I am left with no option than to tell us that, these ex-generals and their boys are up to something. The issue at hand is not all about the presidential seat. But rather, the national cake (oil blocks). Less I forget, is it not the same Obasanjo who woke up and hand picked his puppet 2011, who eventually grew like Joseph the messiah of Egypt? Is it not the same Obj that told us 2011, that General Buhari is too old to rule this country? Is it not the same Obj that told us Buhari is a dictator? Somebody should have a rethink like me. We must understand the preacher’s language before decoding his message. If Obj can take a swift and prefer General Buhari to Jonathan, a puppet he dedicated his energy and resources to win 2011 election, then as an average Nigerian, we should have a rethink and ask our leaders what is so special in Aso Rock.
If leadership is to serve the people, why is it that, the ex-generals finally gang up against their new recruit on account of change? If we’re to outline the sins of Mr.President, are the ex- generals not guilty of such sins? One may ask why is SPEAKER taking a swift? Everybody wants change. But I am astonished the way and manner these ex- general joined the train of change.
Is it that, this is the first time they heard the word change? If NO, why did they not change this country when they were given opportunity? Why advocating for change now when the puppet body language shows he Will not renew their oil blocks licence? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet purchased equipment to monitor and reduce vandalism? Why advocating for change now, when the strong headed puppet wiped out their ghost names from the civil service pay roll? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet sacked your boys as corrupt ministers? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to dump Sambo for another puppet? Why advocating for change when he refused to kill Nigerians indiscriminately. But rather he is exploiting all means of dialogue.
Unlike your Odi brutal killings and destruction. Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to twist governors hands with EFCC to pave his way like you did? Why advocating for change now, when at 72 years, you still tell your children of 50years they are the leaders of tomorrow? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to give you the fertilizer deal? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to jail your enemies? Why advocating for change now, when the puppet refused to rig election for your daughter? Why advocating for change now, when in your time railways were not working? Why advocating for change, when in your time, our judiciary could not delivered a fair judgement in favour of oppositions? Baba,Nigerians are fed up of you sitting in Otta, deciding their future.
We want to decide our destiny with the help of God. We want to practice true democracy by using our votes to decide our future. Let the good works or antecedents of our leaders speak volume for them. Just after the presidential chat with Mr.President, we discovered that, you, your colleagues and errant boys, are spreading false informations to pave your way to aso rock. Lastly, I challenge you Baba, Tinubu, atiku and others to tell Nigerians you don’t have oil blocks or you Generals are not fighting the last battle to protect your oil blocks. They won’t come out and speak my brothers and sisters. They want us to believe they are fighting for us. When they have their own local refineries at their backyards. Politics / Re: Boko Haram Releases 158 People Abducted In Yobe ( Photo) by richardomoko: 9:03am On Feb 20, 2015
They would not want to give the credit to our gallant soldiers that rescued them. If indeed the insurgents released them on their own free will, let them also release the Chibok school girls then we would know that they do have hearts and are human.
argon500:
A total of 158 Women and children abducted by Boko Haram insurgents from Katarko village in Yobe have been reunited with their families in Damaturu, Yobe.
The victims were released by the sect members after three weeks of captivity.
Ahmed Goniri, the state Commissioner for Justice and Chairman of the State Committee on Rehabilitation of Victims of Insurgency, said this while addressing journalists in Damaturu on Thursday.
“The victims were screened by security operatives to authenticate their status while government provided them with psychological therapy to ease their trauma,” Mr. Goniri said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the victims were released by the insurgents three weeks ago but remained in custody of security agencies to undergo screening to ensure that they were indeed captives.
Abdurahman Dauda, a displaced person, said his wife and six girls were released by the insurgents.
“Two of my boys are still in their custody but, I am of high spirit that they will soon be rescued,” he said.
One of the victims, who preferred to remain anonymous, said’ “to be fair to the insurgents, they did not rape or abused us, they simply asked those who were not interested in their religion to leave, and they eventually released us”.
Meanwhile, the state government has provided N50,000, two bags of rice, sugar, noodles and wrapper to each of the 15 widows among the victims, while 47 other women received N30,000 each and same quantity of rice, sugar, noodles and wrapper.
Presenting the relief materials, Mr. Goniri said government commiserated with the families of the victims and provided the relief materials to help them to resettle.
He said 20 boys were still in custody of the insurgents and expressed hope that the renewed operation against the insurgents would rescue them from their captors. (NAN)

I respect Buhari but the truth be told. GEJ on a number of occasions has invited boko haram to talks which should proceed to amnesty. They have refused to hold talks with him. Why have the northern elders shut their eyes to what is going on in the north. We are aware that the elders in the south south went into the creeks to talk to these youth before we had peace. Please if Buhari knows something we don't know about boko haram he should come out straight.
SEEMESEEMEO:
I did a little research yesterday night and this is what I found!

'Former Head of Military Ruler and Chieftain of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Federal Government to stop the clampdown of Boko Haram insurgents, saying Niger Delta Militants were never killed or properties belonging to them destroyed.

Buhari who spoke on Sunday on a Liberty Radio programme, Guest of the Week monitored said accused the government of killing and destroying houses belonging to Boko Haram members while the Niger Delta militants get special treatment.

The former dictator said that unlike the special treatment given to the Niger Delta militants by the federal government, the Boko Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished by government.

While accusing President Jonathan of failing from the beginning to address the security situation in the country, Buhari said he has never been in support of the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa state.

According to Buhari “what is responsible for the security situation in the country is caused by the activities of Niger Delta militants. Every Nigerian that is familiar with what is happening knows this. The Niger Delta militants started it all.

“What happened is that the governors of the Niger Delta region at that time wanted to win their elections. So they recruited the youths and gave them guns and bullets and used them against their opponents to win elections by force.

“After the elections were over, they asked the boys to return the guns; the boys refused to return the guns. Because of that, the allowance that was being given to the youths by the governors during that time was stopped.

“The youths resorted to kidnapping oil workers and were collecting dollars as ransom. Now a boy of 18 to 20 years was getting about 500 dollars in a week, why will he go to school and spend 20 years to study  and then come back and get employed by government to be paid N100,000 a month, that is if he is lucky to get employment.

“So kidnapping becomes very rampant in the South -South and the South -East. They kidnapped people and were collecting money.

“How did Boko Haram start? We know that their leader, Mohammed Yusuf started his militant and the police couldn’t control them and the army was invited. He was arrested by soldiers and handed over to the police.

“The appropriate thing to do, according to the law, was for the police to carry out investigations and charge him to court for prosecution, but they killed him, his in-law was killed, they went and demolished their houses.

“Because of that, his supporters resorted to what they are doing today.

You see in the case of the Niger Delta militants, the late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua sent an aeroplane to bring them, he sat down with them and discussed with them, they were cajoled, and they were given money and granted amnesty.

“They were trained in some skills and were given employment, but the ones in the north were being killed and their houses were being demolished.

They are different issues, what brought this? It is injustice”.

While fielding questions in English in the same programme, Buhari said that the promoters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) were aware of the challenges ahead of them in an effort to get the party registered, saying “the road to merger is quite rough.

“The ruling party, with its enormous resources and its capacity for coercion has seen it as a threat and they have said it. Personally, I came to realise since 2007 that Nigerians believe that the only way to stabilise the system of multi-party democracy is for the opposition parties that have representatives right from Councillors to the National Assembly come together to deliver their constituencies democratically.

This is the only way you can counter PDP’s enormous physical and material influence in the country”

He expressed optimism that the All Progressive Congress will be registered saying “by nature, I am an optimist. If I were not an optimist, I will not attempt to contest the presidency three times and end up in the Supreme Court three times. I believe we are going to be registered.

“There is a law guiding party registration which states that you must have your headquarters in the nation’s capital that can be identified by INEC and you must have a convention. All the three parties involved have held their conventions and have agreed to forsake our existing parties and go for APC.

“At the national level, we must have those who will run the party. As soon as we meet these criteria and INEC acknowledge that, 30 days after the acknowledgement, we are APC whether INEC write us and give us the registration or not”.

Politics / Re: Buhari Flown Abroad For Prostate Cancer Checkup - The Herald by richardomoko: 8:08am On Feb 20, 2015
I wish him a quick recovery, however is the presidency a do or die affair? Please health is better than wealth.
elbinmanny:
The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari has been flown out of the country to the United Kingdom for medical check-up aboard a British Airways plane.

It was gathered from a reliable source that he travelled out this morning around 9 am.

Details around his health have remained sketchy, but it is rumoured he has gone to treat a nagging health condition – prostate cancer.

It was also learnt that as a result of the hectic political campaigns he embarked throughout the nation, he has not been able to attend to his regular monthly medical check-up abroad.

However, a statement from his campaign office has debunked the story and said Buhari had gone on a short working visit to the United Kingdom
The statement reads, “in the course of this visit, Buhari would hold meetings with key members of the British political establishment and interact with some global institutions with stakeholder interest in the affairs of Nigeria.

The Director of Media and Publicity, for the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, Malam Garba Shehu, said, “General Buhari will hopefully give a talk at the prestigious foreign policy hub, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House in London.”

I hope that Buhari would still embrace peace when he loses to GEJ again.
dandutse01:
As Nigerians wait to go to the polls for the 2015 elections come March 28 and April 11 respectively, the Presidential candidate of The All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari has commended his rival and the incumbent president, Goodluck Jonathan for the first time in a long while.

Speaking in Abuja during the visit of Mr. Kadre Ouedraogo, President of The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS), General Buhari praised President Jonathan for assuring Nigerians that he will hand over power if he loses in the forthcoming presidential election slated for March 28.

Buhari further assured the delegation of a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the elections and praised Jonathan for assuring to hand over to whoever emerged winner at the polls.
He said: “The six weeks extension is accommodated in the Constitution for holding elections and INEC has said it has recorded between 75-80 per cent successes in the distribution of the voter cards.

“Mr. President has made very encouraging comments weeks ago by saying he’ll hand over to whoever emerged winner.

“We told our supporters to embrace peace before the accord and even after the signing of the accord we have continued to urge them to show restraint.

Even though I love Baba, I'm not happy with his approach on this whole issue. Howverer said he ought not to react in the manner he did. What would happen when GEJ wins the election?
whizpet:

The political tension created in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s dramatic exit from the party on Monday February 16, still lingers on.

The Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who said he was in a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday, hinted that the party will go and beg the former president who wants to become just an ‘elder statesman’ to return and forgive whatever wrong doing the grand children may committed.

Following the disclosure by Lamido, some Nigerians, however, shared diverse opinion on the planned move by the party and also used the opportunity to condemn Jigawa state governor.

According to Dan Arewa, “We all thank God for bringing Jonathan into PDP, If not him who would have killed PDP so easily and quickly”?

Suleiman Adamu, who condemned the Jonathan-led administration for its alleged corruption said: “Mr. Lamido baba is against the mismanagement of PDP by Jonathan, instead of you to support, you are busy campaigning for his re-election. Your days are numbered come March.”

Chinedu Nsofor is of the opinion that Obasanjo is an accomplished man who has done a lot for Nigeria, but his recent criticism is a symptom of old age.

“Baba (Obasanjo) is an icon, an inventor and a creator of every institution in Nigeria!! His unrelenting criticism is a manifestation of old age!!! Lamido is speaking from both sides of his mouth. If Baba is suffering from dementia, old peoples’ sickness, why do you want him back since he has departed from being an icon, an inventor and a creator and is now having the old age sickness? The same sickness they say makes Buhari ineligible! What do you want to do with a wasted old man? Or is this another insult? Come out straight and tell us what you want Baba for,” he said.

Politics / Re: Fleeing Boko Haram Members Do Menial Jobs To Stay Under Cover – Omeri by richardomoko: 3:27pm On Feb 19, 2015
Thank God for the victory over terrorism.

adonisNEW:
The coordinating spokesman of the National Information Centre, Mr Mike Omeri, has advised Nigerians to be more vigilant, as some members of the terrorist group engage in menial jobs in order to ward off security operatives.

Mr Omeri explained that the military onslaught against members of Boko Haram terrorist group in the north-east had forced members of the group to take up menial jobs.

Addressing a weekly news conference of the Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, Mr Omeri announced the re-capture of more towns in the north-east by Nigerian troops supported by the regional Multi National Force.

He noted that the onslaught against the insurgents would be intensified until terrorist activities were reduced to the barest minimum and eventually wiped out.

Mr Omeri, who commended the renewed support by the regional forces and the offer of assistance from the United States of America, however, appealed to politicians to shun violent acts and provocative comments.

He condemned the recent attack that occurred in Okrika in Rivers State, saying “it is unacceptable for Nigerians to be attacked at a political rally”.

Sporadic gunshots by unknown hoodlums had scuttled the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship rally at the National Secondary School, in Rivers State on Tuesday.

Before the disruption, Channels Television’s correspondent, Charles Eruka, explained that three explosions were heard before the APC governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside, arrived the rally venue.

Troops in a military operation spearheaded by highly coordinated air assaults completed the mission of clearing terrorists from Monguno in Borno State and environs, a military official said on Monday.

The spokesman for the military, Major General Chris Olukolade, in a statement said that a number of the Boko Haram terrorists were captured in the course of the operation on Monday morning.

Major General Olukolade further said that truck loads of rice, beans and other logistics meant for resupply to the terrorists operating around Baga were also captured.

Politics / Re: 70% Jonathan Supporters Can’t State His Achievements – Group by richardomoko: 2:48pm On Feb 16, 2015
From your name change initiative, obviously we all know where your interest lies. As such you would not hear it when they (70%) are telling you of GEJ achievements.
iwaeda:
Most supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan cannot give reasons why he should be reelected on March 28, 2015, a non-governmental organisation, Change Initiative Forum, has said.

The group stated that although the supporters believe that the present administration had performed commendably, 70 per cent of them would not be able to state some of the achievements of the current government.

The Coordinator, CIF, Mr. Genesis Jeremiah, told journalists in Abuja that the development prompted the group to publish a book on the President’s feats while in office.

He said, “Virtually 70 per cent of those fighting for Mr. President to be reelected cannot articulate the reason why he should come back with facts and figures. All they know is that he has done well as President despite the challenges.

“That is why the Change Initiative Forum came up with this idea of detailing his achievements in a book titled ‘Why Goodluck Jonathan should be reelected in 2015.’ This is to provide reasons and facts for these very persons to be able to defend what they are standing for as it relates to the various sectors of the Nigerian economy.”

Jeremiah said the group had taken its campaign across the country, adding that it had “gone to the six geopolitical zones to conduct rallies and we decided to present the book in Abuja being the grand finale of the entire process.”

On some of the achievements, he said the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill was remarkable in that it had given people the freedom to speak up on issues without fear or favour.

Jeremiah said, “The way people insult and embarrass Mr. President has never been recorded in the history of this country and the reason is because he passed the FOI bill.

“Secondly, years back, about 90 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue was from the oil sector. But this has changed because sectors like agriculture and transport are now contributing commendably to the country’s revenue. Yes there are issues but with time they will be addressed.”

A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a member of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Abba Gana, said the book would enlighten Nigerians on the performance of President Jonathan.

“The book is timely because it will enlighten Nigerians so that they can make the best political choice for themselves and for the country. I am sure it will guide Nigerians and will also let people see the performance of the President very clearly,” he said.
