Politics / Re: Why Jonathan, Wife Planning To Kill Me –father Mbaka by richardomoko: 8:35am On Mar 17, 2015
Time would reveal whether truly God is speaking to him or some demons are confusing his mind.
9jagistonline:
Enugu-based Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has assumed that President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, were planning to kill him over his criticism of the Federal Government and his antagonism to the President’s re-election.
Mbaka, in a new video currently trending on YouTube, made the claim during a sermon he delivered in his church.
The congregation exploded in a howl when Mbaka said, “President Jonathan and his wife are planning to kill me.”
The Roman Catholic Priest, whose latest comments on the general elections created waves, said the plan to assassinate him showed that the President no longer had the fear of God.
He said, “Although I sent a letter about this somewhere but I want to say this to the atmosphere. Let me say to the whole world that President Jonathan and his wife, Patience, are planning to assassinate Father Mbaka. It is a known secret, so whoever they want to use, I don’t know. They may not come themselves. They may use these jobless people. The same people I am speaking for. I don’t know why people no longer have the fear of God.
“Do they think that killing Father Mbaka will make Jonathan and his wife win the election? Is Mbaka their problem? And a priest asked a question that touched me. He said all this while that Father Mbaka has been supporting Jonathan and his wife, did Buhari and his party make any statement to threatened him?”
Mbaka preserved that his criticism of the Jonathan administration was a divine mandate, while making reference to the bible story of when God sent Moses to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go.
He compared his New Year message against President Jonathan to Moses’ message to the Egyptian King, Pharaoh.
He said in the video, “I am just trying to tell any Pharaoh that is threatening to kill any Moses to remember what happened in Exodus chapter 12. After the Passover, the family of Pharaoh cried. They ended in the middle of the Red Sea.”
The Catholic priest said despite the threats, he would continue to discharge his duties without fear of anyone.
Mbaka also denied that Patience Jonathan gave him any money when she visited his church.
He said although President Jonathan dropped money for him through Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, he left the money with Ekweremadu and his wife. He also said that Patience Jonathan’s offering to the church was also rejected.
Mbaka launched a scathing criticism of President Jonathan last year when he gave a sermon condemning his re-election.

We have been in this country and so far this is the first government that we have not had political assassinations from the helm of affairs. Other people have criticized GEJ worse than this man and they are still alive how come he is making such a claim at this time? Please Mbaka respect yourself.

Politics / Re: I’m Not Ready To Carry Food To My Husband In Prison –PEJ In Ekiti by richardomoko: 5:49pm On Mar 16, 2015
Fabricated APC bullshit. People love GEJ and would vote for him massively this March 28, irrespective of your propaganda.
IamOpemipo:

Wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, faPatience, today said she is not ready to be carrying food to her husband in prison if jailed by General Muhammadu Buhari.
This was the high point of the First Lady’s speech in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State on Monday as she carried her women rally to the state.
Describing as wicked and mindless jailing of people by Buhari, Mrs. Jonathan said it is sure that many people would suffer the same fate should the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate be voted in.
“Me, I am not ready to carry food to prison for my husband,” she said.
The First Lady, who said a vote for Buhari meant votes for long prison terms, said Fayose should be ready for jail should his state allow Buhari to get to power.
“How many years are you now Fayose? How many years are you? If you now get 300 years prison term, you will serve the term, your children will serve the term and grandchildren will serve in prison. How can you jail someone 300 years?” she said in reference to the various jail terms handed down to many politicians by the regime of Gen Buhari when he was the head of state.
Mrs. Jonathan told the gathering that her husband had taken care of many needs of the people including youths whom she said have enjoyed lots of opportunities under the SURE-P programme and the YOUWIN programme

Politics / Re: Beyond Propaganda: President Jonathan Is Favored To Win SW (opinion) by richardomoko: 5:44pm On Mar 16, 2015
Yoruba's would of course vote massively for GEJ. Tinubu is not the annoited leader of the Yoruba race.
barcanista:
How true is the phrase "Yoruba won't vote Jonathan"?

The political terrain of the South West is controlled/shared among the Social Democratic Party, Accord Party, All Progressive Congress, People's Democratic Party and the usual dark horse Labour Party. The SDP, PDP, Accord and LP are queuing behind the re-election of President Jonathan. Only the APC is with Muhammadu Buhari. While the SDP and Accord may sound like a lightweight to some readers, indices on ground shows otherwise. A Look at the present political fortunes of pro-Jonathan parties in the SW..

Social Democratic Party
The SDP led by Olu Falae and Osoba is more prominent in Ogun State. All 3 Senators from the state are members of SDP. The party also boasts of 5 out of 9 House of Reps delegation from Ogun state(2 each for PDP and APC), the Deputy Governor, former cabinet members of Amosun, and some state legislators. In other words, neither the APC nor the PDP can boast of any incumbent Senator from Ogun State. SDP is also very prominent in Oyo State with Mr Makinde, a popular millionaire leading its rank. The party is queuing behind Jonathan in the Presidential poll.

Accord Party
Accord Party is more formidable in Oyo State, especially Ibadan. Of the three Senators from Oyo, two(2) are of Accord Party, the other is a PDP man. The party led by the popular charismatic former Governor Ladoja is the leading party for the Oyo State Guber election. As long as Oyo is concerned, Accord Party is a force to be reckoned with. The party is queuing behind Jonathan in the Presidential poll

Labour Party
Labour Party is the usual dark horse in Yoruba politics since 2007. It is prominent in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo and Ogun States. In Oyo State, it is led by exGovernor Alao Akala who is the Governorship candidate. Akala's stronghold is his Ogbomoso town. The party is also relatively popular in Oyo town and Ibadan of the state. The party is queuing behind Jonathan in the Presidential poll

People's Democratic Party
Peoples' Democratic Party arose from its 2011 misfortune/near extinction to become a force again in 2015. No thanks to the division of its party in Oyo, Ekiti, Lagos and Ogun States. Fortunately for the party, they are now united in Lagos(for the first time since 2006), Ogun State (after 5 years of division), Ekiti and Ondo States(after almost one year of division). In other words, the party is participating in 2015 as a united team- except in Oyo state. In Ogun State, the PDP boasts of two Reps members and about 10 State legislators. In Oyo state, it boasts of one senate seat. In Ekiti, it recently won the Governorship election in all 16 LGA. In Ondo State, the defection of Governor Mimiko and two Senators from the State means a lot to the party. Though it almost caused rift among members of the State chapter of the party. In Lagos state, for the first time since 2005, the party is working together as a team. Jonathan is the PDP Candidate.

Politics / Between Actions And Reality - Gej And Gmb by richardomoko: 9:58am On Mar 15, 2015
I have taken time to observe with a sense of amazement the political intrigues especially for the last few weeks. Matter of factly, the responses of the two front runners contesting to be President of Nigeria. The Chairman of INEC - Atahiru Jega postponed the elections for six weeks having yielded to advice from the military with regards to protecting Nigerians from the menance of boko haram.

The military authorise recently received a stash of modern war equipments that they have placed order for sometime now. Before February 14, boko haram as usual had posted an on line video that they would hit targets especially polling centers during the elections. In response to this threat the National Security Adviser had hinted in the UK of a possibility of postponing the elections to guaranty the security of lives and property which did not go down well with APC. Whether or not it is right to do so is not what is important but the responses of the political parties especially the main actors. This is not the first time elections are postponed in Nigeria and even with that it is within the laws as described in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

What are the actions/reactions of GEJ and GMB?
1. GEJ took this as an opportunity to showcase his achievements by personally leading his campaign to every nook and crany of Nigeria. Holding meetings with Traditional leaders, market associations, student bodies, union leaders and so on. He did not leave any stone unturned be it in the North or South, East or West. He visited even some places supposedly PDP strongholds even mandating his Vice President to go to some areas he could not personally visit. Like the Americans would say of their politicians 'he kissed the baby'. The PDP even increased its adverts and engaged the wife of the President in its campaigning efforts. The active participation of the 'Fitness walk' in Abuja that attracted various artist and sportsmen and women greatly contracted and doused the one million march in Lagos. In my candid opinion GMB would have stolen the day had he actively participated in the one million march in Lagos. Since such rascals as Fayose were casting aspersion of his visit to the UK being on medical grounds.
2. GMB traveled to the UK for upwards of two weeks for a supposedly 'well deserved rest' he delivered a lecture at Chattam House and retuned to Nigeria over a week ago. Since then and now we have seen less of APC adverts and less of their campaigning. Except for the one million march that GMB did not participate in and the social media campaign you would have thought that the APC had gone into oblivion. It would have been an opportunity to increase your awareness and possibly poach political figures that would aid your campaign. The APC did not even attend or have a significant representation in the 90th birthday celebration of former President Shehu Shagari which conotes complacency in the eyes of the northern elites.

The Realities on ground as of present:
The PDP through the efforts of Mr President is receiving results as more political figures are openly declaring their support for him. Shagari and some northern political bigwigs have openly declared their support for him (GEJ). The big blow to the APC is the decamping of some it's main supporters actively backing Kwankwaso in Kano. More people daily are declaring their support for GEJ, probably seeing the possibility that he would return as President.

Knowing politicians it is always their interest first which is permanent and not the party. GMB is a decent human being I am sure he would have reasonable impact if he steps up the ante and not rely on social media campaign because actions translates to reality and not visions without actions.

Politics / Re: Two Weeks To Polls: Jonathan’s Campaign In Disarray As Buhari Surges by richardomoko: 8:17am On Mar 15, 2015
Thank God for once an APC writer is acknowledging Jonathan for his Transformation agenda. Indeed the President has performed creditably well, yes he may have been undersold but still a lot of people feel his effect. The bogus polls you people are relying on won't give you election victory. Now GEJ is putting efforts by personally criss-crossing the country and touching base with whoever of importance. I hope you would acknowledge his efforts when he wins and is returned as President for a second term. Rather than sitting down or traveling abroad for a purported 'rest' because you are relying on social media campaigning as Buhari is doing.
abu12:

• President sidelines Ahmadu Ali campaign committee

• Eurasia group projects Buhari to win 60% of votes

Things are not adding up for President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his re-election bid with the poll a mere 14 days away.
Suspicion is rife within the party hierarchy, and leaders are pulling in different directions, according to presidency and party sources.

So bad is the situation that the President’s campaign has split into five with the president himself taking his destiny in his own hand by personally criss-crossing the country to woo traditional rulers, opinion moulders, youth and women leaders with a view to salvaging the situation.
Shortly after his nomination by the PDP for the race, President Jonathan set up a Presidential Campaign Council led by Dr. Ahmadu Ali to co-ordinate the campaign nationwide.

But complaints and field reports reaching the president from the states convinced him that the council was far from effective.
In came the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, who, sources said, began to ‘remote control’ the campaign council.

Soon, four other main groups, all purporting to work for the president’s election emerged.
These are: the PDP Governors’ Forum; the PDP initiative; and the strategic team being driven by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim/ ministers/ Chief E.K. Clark/ and other motley support groups.

A party source familiar with the situation said: “The struggle for personal benefits has overshadowed the target of winning the election. Virtually everyone wants to make money from the campaign as if there will be no tomorrow or as if we are going to lose at the poll.

“The president saw the gaps and decided to personally drive his own campaign.”
The situation was not helped by poll results before the postponement of the February election that the President was heading for a humiliating defeat.

He quickly took over the campaign and has been jetting round the country to prop up his image.
“If the president tells you his experience in the last three weeks that he has been shuttling about, you will appreciate that he would have lost the February 14 election woefully,” was the way another source put it yesterday.

Only last Thursday, the Deputy Director-General of the PDP Campaign Organisation, Professor Tunde Adeniran, accused the PDP of doing little to promote Jonathan.
“If we continue to show this man has not done anything, others will capitalise on it. The party is not showing enough in this regard. The president’s achievement is undersold and in some cases not sold at all. In some places they ask, so Jonathan has done so?” he said.

Within the last three weeks, the president has visited the Southwest, which he sees as the zone holding the ace in the election, at least four times to plead for support.
During the first visit, he spent a whole week in Lagos meeting Obas, youths, market women and other interest groups. He also visited churches for prayers.

On the second visit, he went to Oyo town to see theAlaafin, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and Ile-Ife on the third visit where some Obas were gathered to pray for him
He returned to the zone on Thursday to seek the support of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who told him that he should not expect any Oba to campaign for him.
“In Ijebu here, it is not possible for any Oba- not even in Ijebu, in Yorubaland- to go out and say vote for this, vote for that. That person is looking for trouble. But they should give them (the politicians) the opportunity to present their programmes so that the people can make up their minds on what to do,” the Awujale told him.

Comments by the president’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, during campaigns are also believed to be alienating sections of the country from her husband.
One of such was the statement she made recently in Port Harcourt that northerners are breeding children they could not cater for, hence the menace ofAlmajiris.
“Our men no dey born shildren throway for street. We no dey like the people for that side,”she said in pidgin English.
Apparently haunted by the statement, Mrs. Jonathan last week was absent at a women’s campaign in Minna, Niger State.

Another was when she declared in Asaba, Delta State that the APC presidential flag bearer, General Muhammadu Buhari was “brain dead.”
She was also in Benin, Edo State yesterday where she said that her husband must complete “our two terms” in office.
Meanwhile, the Eurasia Group, the world’s leading global political risk research and consulting firm, has tipped the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to win this month’s election.

The firm projects that the APC flag bearer has a 60 per cent probability to beat President Goodluck Jonathan in the election.
The firm’s Africa practice head and analyst, Philippe de Pontet, wrote yesterday that the electoral map is tilting to Buhari in swing regions in the Southwest and the Middle Belt.

He said that with Buhari in the saddle, investors could expect business-oriented policies.
He adds: “The election will still be difficult to call, but our expectation of a narrow Jonathan win was predicated on several factors that are losing some saliency late in the campaign.

“Chief among them is the incumbency and financial advantages of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). While this still helps Jonathan, its impact is blunted by the intensity of support for Buhari, lackluster grassroots campaigning by the PDP, and new anti-rigging measures by the electoral commission.

“New permanent voting cards and card readers will sharply reduce the level of rigging seen in 2011, when Jonathan beat Buhari in a landslide …

“While we expected the electoral map to favour Jonathan, current trends suggest that the swing regions may side with Buhari, including the Christian-majority and heavily-populated southwest around Lagos. That could be the decisive demographic factor in the election …”

A local think tank, the Centre for Public Policy Alternatives, gave Buhari a 58% to 32% lead in Lagos State, where Jonathan won the last election. Eurasia Group thinks Jonathan’s approval rating is below the 40% threshold under which incumbents have a hard time getting reelected.

“Despite some important military gains against [the Islamic terror group] Boko Haram in the northeast, and a partial exoneration of its oil revenue management in a recent PWC audit, [Jonathan's] Peoples Democratic Party is starting to look desperate. … [But] it is not clear … that Buhari has a strong economic policy orientation. This uncertainty is a chief risk for investors.”

Jonathan is likely to contest an unfavorable outcome, especially a close election, and that could mean protracted violence.
“The reason we aren’t upgrading Nigeria’s outlook to positive, however, rests in the potential for an oil disruption and the likely pushback to Buhari’s policy agenda in a highly polarized political climate. His victory is likely to unleash a resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta (Jonathan’s home region) that targets the oil sector. Former Delta militants have threatened to blow up oil pipelines, platforms, and personnel as in the past when they routinely took up to 500,000 barrels per day offline. There is likely some bluster in their threats …”

Politics / Buhari Beware Of Traitors Within by richardomoko: 7:47am On Mar 15, 2015
I read with dismay how Bola Tinubu boasted of helping GEJ win the 2011 general elections while addressing Ndigbos in a Town hall meeting in Lagos. It goes to show clearly that truly it is only ones interest that is permanent in politics. Some of you now would understand why Ribadu quickly dumped Tinubu and his party. How can one plot against his fellow party members because he has allowed his personal selfish interest and ambitions to take the front seat. Traitors surely would not go unpunished. As such I am asking Buhari to beware as he also may suffer the same feat.

Brethren,
This is a desperate and urgent call from the throne of Grace that the brethren in Christ are about to make the greatest error of their lives by selling off their kingly heritage for a mess of pottage called "change". Change into what? Change into what happened to Egypt , Sudan, Lybia, Algeria and Turkey which were once flourishing Christian countries but because the brethren there also sold their souls on the premise of "it does not matter" they became the last set of Christians in those countries! Remember Turkey! It was the beautiful Christian country called Constantinople! Today it is history! The foundation of the planned islamisation of Nigeria was taken in 1989 in Abuja by OIC. Since then they have not looked back! Our Government gave them a contribution of 21 billion dollars then! Wonder then where the funding of boko Haram is coming from? They have painfully now infiltrated one of the biggest denominations in Nigeria and offered one of their best Pastors -a Professor,a Vice presidential Slot! Now a larger community of that denomination now promotes this "change"! They did it in Constantinople ! Remember brethren, that the biggest denomination of Christians in the North - the EYN has been wiped off! All their churches burnt. You may say that it is the North it can't get here! They said the same thing in Sudan, Libya, Algeria and Constantinople! How come the brethren have become so dulled in the Spirit that they no longer are sensitive?
We may be the last Christians in Nigeria if this grave error the brethren is about to commit is not averted! Our Lord Jesus is greatly miffed by our irresponsibility as His Followers! How come we no longer hear Him! The Great shepherd of the Sheep! How come that Christians have forgotten that this country was made ungovernable by these same people and Christians are holding the wrong person responsible? How come? The signs of the eventual Islamization of Nigeria are awash in the 1999 constitution where Islam, Sharia a

There is a 60% probability that Nigeria opposition leader Muhamadu Buhari could beat President Goodluck Jonathan in this month’s election, according to Eurasia Group.

Politics / Re: Simple Questions For Yoruba Monarchs by richardomoko: 2:15pm On Mar 13, 2015
Too much talk for an issue the APC want to over blow out of proportion. Creating a mountain out of a mole hill. The Awujale has whom he is supporting go and ask him. However being the case GEJ would be returned as President come March 28 to the cortesnation of only a few.
midolian:
The presidential campaign team of the PDP and their presidential flag bearer, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan must know something we do not know about the electoral value of the monarchs in some parts of Yourubaland for he is spending quite some time with them lately. Let us be clear, such move is legitimate: a candidate has the right even the duty to do anything within the law to secure his or her victory. Seeking support and endorsements is not only a natural part of the electoral process; it is indeed a healthy part of it.

The norm and expectation is that the endorser states why he or she is endorsing a candidate rather than another one. When the support and or endorsement come from Yoruba monarchs it however begets some peculiar but simple questions that these monarchs need to answer.

The ultimate appellation for a Yoruba monarch is “Kabiyesi” which means the “unquestionable one” and herein lies a peculiar situation that provokes a simple question: Do these Yoruba monarchs realise that by endorsing a candidate rather another one, they are opening themselves to scrutiny? Do they understand that in an electoral process once a person or personality goes public to endorse a candidate or is seen in any shape or form to support a candidate, it becomes natural not only to question and analyse the reasons for endorsement but also the person and personality of the endorser?

Are our monarchs aware of the fact that it is not possible to be seen to endorse or support a candidate and demand to be treated as non-partisan? It would be great to know if our monarchs have, for the sake of their personal dignity and feelings as well as the sake of thrones they sit on and the people they reign over, considered the effect of being seen as partisan. As their royal highnesses might have observed, partisan language these days is rarely deferential or charitable. I doubt their royal highnesses would like it if someone from the other side tells them to mind their business or worse still if they got the Femi Fani-Kayode, Fayose or Dame Jonathan treatment from the other side they are endorsing.

In the general perception, Yoruba monarchs are seen as fathers in their communities, now beyond their feeling and dignity, I would like to ask if their royal highnesses have considered what will happen if we get into a situation where members of their communities who are today divided along partisan lines get into a stalemate and require the attention and intervention of a father like figure that can be trusted to be above conflicting parts to arbitrate? Do their royal highnesses really think that side they have endorsed and supported against will trust them as fathers that love in equal measure?

In the event political gladiators don’t unanimously perceive and trust traditional rulers as above partisan forays and interests anymore, who will these gladiators approach to settle their disputes? Students of politics will readily agree that whilst it is true that in democracies, though the partisan actors and activities are the most visible and operational parts of the system, what makes a democratic state function and any union stable is in reality the non partisan organs and actors. No democratic state can function or union remain stable without a strong non-partisan wedge and each state and era invents its own. Are their royal highnesses aware that with their partisan posture they risk abdicating their natural role as part of the non-partisan block of the society? Have they considered the effect of these political gladiators going elsewhere for arbitration and having a new rallying point outside our palaces?

The best case an advocate of the royal endorsement can put up for their royal highnesses is that the monarchs are through their endorsement and support advancing the Yoruba cause. That may very well be so and even where we take that argument at face value another question pops up: Have their royal highnesses sought to advance the same cause with the opposing parties? Have they at least had or tried to have conversations with the presidential campaign team of the APC and their presidential flag bearer to discuss what their royal highnesses deem important for the Yoruba people? The answer to this question is crucial because it will let the confused or unsure Yoruba voter know who is committed to their cause.

The mode in which their royal highnesses have been meeting the presidential campaign team of the PDP and their presidential flag standard bearer also constitutes a sore to our sight and leaves some of us with a bitter taste in our mouth. The image of their royal highnesses hurled together into one space with no semblance of royalty as they sit and wait to meet the presidential campaign team of the PDP and their presidential standard bearer like lobbyist or beneficiaries meeting their benefactors does not help the image and dignity of these royal fathers. Is it too much to for a Yoruba monarch to ask any politician that wants to see him to come to the palace to meet a king on the throne of his forefathers that will still be there after the politician has left office?

An observant reader will by now understand that I hold the office of their royal highnesses in high regard; I can assure you that there are many of us like that. Their royal highnesses, however, need to let us know if we are mere unrealistic romantics.

How won't it screech to a halt when the APC is a gathering of strange bed fellows.
dipo1234:

KWAKWANSO BUHARI FIGHT DIRTY, AS BUHARI DIRECTS NORTH-WEST RALLY BE HELD IN KADUNA, AS SOUTH-SOUTH RALLY FLOPS.
Governor of Kano State may have had his revenge finally. After refusing to contribute the N2Billion demanded from each governor of the APC for the second lap of the presidential campaigns, Gov. Kwakwanso has called the Buhari bluff of cancelling the NW zonal rally of the APC billed to hold in Kano. Rising Tide has gathered that the rally will now hold in Kaduna.
Meanwhile, the cash crunch is hitting the APC. The silent freezing of Tinubu's dubious account and the confiscation of his cash tank in Lagos is affecting the APC campaigns seriously. The EFCC is closely monitoring withdrawal and transfers of the Rivers State Government after a tip off that the sum of N2.8b had been approved for payment for the reconstruction of Trans-Amadi Road. The EFCC beamed on Zenith Bank Port Harcourt, and Governor Amaechi has been unable to access funds.
The low turnout at the South -South rally was expected. The venue was changed from new 40,000 capacity stadium to the 8,000 capacity Liberation Stadium. Governor Adam Oshiomole clearly told the APCPCO DG, Rotimi Amechi that he is out of funds, and could not contribute any significant amount to the campaign.
As it looks, the wheels are screeching to abrupt halt. The once growing momentum of Nigeria's biggest opposition just caught a fever.

Politics / Re: ISIS Trains Boko Haram Fighters, Says Jonathan by richardomoko: 6:12am On Mar 13, 2015
Nigeria is one indivisible nation no matter the obstacles we may face. As such no foreign collaborators would ever destroy what God has ordained. Inspite of the boko haram menance, truth be told. GEJ has performed credibly well.
Equalizer:
President Goodluck Jonathan says fighters from
insurgent group Boko Haram have traveled to the
Middle East for training with Islamic State militants.
Jonathan declined to name the countries where the
fighters were allegedly trained. But in an interview with
VOA on Wednesday, he said he’s long suspected Boko
Haram of having alliances with international extremist
groups.

“So, we know the links are there. But even now, we
may not know the degree of linkages as to how much
funds are coming in from them, the kind of volume of
weapons coming in from them, the nationalities
coming from them,” Jonathan said.
“But the training, because some of the Boko Haram
members go to have their training in the ISIS camp
and come back,” he added

In the interview, Jonathan credited both the
intervention of Nigeria’s neighbours as well as the
acquisition of new weapons for turning the tide
against the militants.
He hit back at criticisms that foreign troops aren’t
being allowed to push into Boko Haram strongholds
deep in Nigerian territory. He said Cameroon previously
denied Nigeria permission to pursue Boko Haram into
its territory, and added that restrictions on foreign
troops were matters of coordination.

“I think the idea is that look, for any major aggression,
we should know. Where possible, let some Nigerian
soldiers also be with you,” the President said.
He also said that foreign technicians are present in the
northeast to teach Nigerian troops on how to use their
new weapons, since there wasn’t time to train the
troops before they were deployed.

“So we now have this technical people who are trainers
and technicians, who are to train our people on how to
use them, and technicians that help the maintenance,
at the same time training our people how to maintain
this equipment,” Jonathan said.

He said two unnamed companies were involved in the
training but declined to offer nationalities or numbers
of the trainers.

Jonathan dismissed the suggestion that Boko Haram’s
insurgency had come to define his time in office.
“Yes, it’s a major security issue, it’s the number one
security issue we have as a nation. But definitely, you
cannot define us by Boko Haram,” he said.
As the multinational offensive continues, Jonathan
predicted that the northeastern states of Yobe and
Adamawa would be cleared of Boko Haram territory
before the middle of next week. He said he hopes
neighbouring Borno State, where the group started,
will be cleared in the next three weeks.

But Jonathan said he expects Boko Haram to continue
bombing markets and bus stops. He says the
government’s strategy is to improve intelligence
gathering as well as job and educational prospects in
the northeast as a long-term strategy to destroy the
group.

Politics / Re: BREAKING: Adamawa Now Free Of Boko Haram Terrorists — DHQ by richardomoko: 5:39am On Mar 13, 2015
Praise be to God! Our military would continue to record success in this campaign to flush out boko haram elements. Thanks also to GEJ for properly equipping our soldiers and also boosting their morale.
HzRF:
Nigerian troops on Thursday succeeded in clearing terrorists out of Madagali, the last major town held by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria’s Adamawa State.
The Director Defence Information, Chris Olukolade, a Major General, who is on a tour of mission areas in the North-East, announced the development via a press statement.
He said there were no casualties on the side of the Nigerian forces, which included the Army, the Airforce and other security agencies.
He said mop-up operation is ongoing in the town.
The ridding of Adamawa of terrorists is an extension of the string of successes the Nigerian troops have had since they commenced an extensive six-week anti-Boko Haram operation on February 14.
The troops routed terrorists from different towns and communities in Adamawa, Borno, Yobe and Gombe, including Bara, the headquarter of Gulani Local Government Area of Yobe State, Gulak, the Headquarter of Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Other locations also cleared in the course of the operation, according to the military, include Shikah, Fikayel, Tetebah, Buza, Kamla and Bumsa.
The troops also recovered Monguno, Marte, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa and Baga among other big towns and communities.
On Wednesday, the military announced it dislodged the Boko Haram terrorists from Lame/Bura forest between Ningi and Torro Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
Sani Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, said troops from 33 Brigade of the Nigerian Army cleared the area of terrorists in an operation which started last weekend.
“Quite a number of terrorists were killed, their weapons and equipment destroyed. Similarly, a sizeable number of arms, ammunitions, food stuffs, Hilux vehicles, motorcycles and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) were recovered by the troops,” Mr. Sani said.
The troops, he said, also recovered three Hilux vehicles, 12 motorcycles, four AK-47 rifles, a Fabrique Nationale rifle, one Small Machine Gun (SMG), one Police Teargas pistol, 36 Primed IEDs, 56 rifles magazines and over 500 rounds of 7.62 milimetre ammunition.
Other items recovered are six jerrycans of groundnut and palm oil and several Improvised Explosive Device-making materials, amongst others.
The liberated area, he said, was an hideout and operating ground for the terrorists.

Politics / Re: Awujale To Jonathan: Obas Don’t Campaign For Politicians by richardomoko: 5:00am On Mar 13, 2015
However much I agree with the Oba. GEJ would still win and return as President this March. In the north their rulers indirectly campaign for politicians by encouraging their subjects to vote for particular candidates.
DAVECENA:
The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba
Sikiru Adetona, has told President Goodluck Jonathan,
that it is not proper in Ijebuland or Yorubaland for an
Oba to canvass for votes for any candidates seeking
elective posts.
Rather, monarchs in Yorubaland only encourage their
subjects to make their informed choices.
The monarch said this when President Goodluck
Jonathan paid a private visit to him in his palace in
Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
President Jonathan, who arrived the palace around
11.15am in a convoy, was accompanied by the National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu
Mu’azu; a former governor of Ogun State, Otunba
Gbenga Daniel; Governors of Bayelsa and Ondo states,
Seriake Dickson and Olusegun Mimiko respectively,
among others.
The royal father said any Oba canvassing for votes for
any political party’s candidate would be courting
trouble. He said rather than engaging monarchs for
campaign, each candidate must go out and sell his or
manifesto to the electorate.
He said, “In Ijebu here, it is not possible for any Oba,
not even only in Ijebu, in Yorubaland, to go out and say
vote for this, vote for that; that person is looking for
trouble.
“But give them the opportunity to present their
programmes so that people can make up their minds on
what to do. I think this is a very sound democratic
principle and that is what I have decided to do, to give
you the opportunity of meeting with the people.”
Oba Adetona noted that it was when the candidate
would have presented the manifesto that the voters
would decide whether or not to vote for him or her.
He said, “One, they see you as a person. Whether to
engage with you or not to listen to you and see if there
are areas where we can meet is a question for
individual reason. As a result, everybody congregating
belong to different groups. They are members of the
PDP, the All Progressives Congress, All Progressives
Grand Alliance. They belong to various interests, and
when they come, they get to the gate, they shed their
togas.
“The PDP will remove their PDP, the APC will remove
their own. They will remove their own. They are going
to the palace to meet their ruler, their paramount ruler;
to receive that important august visitor who is coming
to their land and give him all honour that is entitled to
him.”
He, however, advised the electorates to vote for those
that had the fear of God and integrity and not those
who would mortgage their future, after offering them
gifts.
He said, “Each time I have cause to talk to our people, I
have always told them, in the churches and mosques
that when you’re going to vote, make sure you back
your sons and daughters who will give something back
to you; not the ‘Ojelus’ (looters).
“Those who will be honest with you, who know the way
of God; those are the people you should vote for; not
those who will give you two, three spoons and
mortgage your future. It is not right.”
The monarch, who prayed to God to guide the country
right, acknowledged that he had never seen any
election that was full of tension in the last 55 years like
the current one coming up in less than two weeks.
President Jonathan had earlier in his speech highlighted
his achievements to the monarch, which he said, cut
across party, ethnic and religious lines in the last four
years.
He said, “In the road infrastructure, we have tried.
Railway is back, we are trying to improve our terminal
buildings and security environment in our airports.
“The Health sector, we have tried both in the tertiary
level, or what we call health tourism. Some of our
hospitals are now open for kidney transplant and at the
primary level we are able to eradicate guinea worm and
we are on the way of eradicating polio completely from
this country.”
President Jonathan explained that his administration’s
focal activities when re-elected would be the
implementation of the report of the National Confab as
well as facilitate the construction of four deep sea port
projects which include the Olokola in Ijebuland, that of
Badagry, Akwa Ibom and the Age in Bayelsa State.
Speaking earlier on behalf of Ijebu Traditional Council,
the Dagburewe of Idowa, Oba Yinusa Adekoya, had
drawn the attention of the President to the non-
appointment of indigenes of Ijebuland to any prominent
position at the federal level.
President Jonathan who promised to correct this if re-
elected, described Ijebuland “as a great land and there’s
no government that will neglect the people of Ijebuland,
I have to take that very very seriously.”
