As Nigerians elsewhere celebrate Nigeria’s 55-year independence anniversary, residents of Kirchinga, in Adamawa state, are marking the day in anguish following the attack on the village by Boko Haram terrorists, slitting the throats of five residents of the area in an early morning attack. The village is the hometown of former acting governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. Kirchinga, a village in Madagali Local Government of Adamawa state, which shares border with the dreaded Sambisa forest, was one of the areas once annexed by Boko Haram insurgents last year. It was however later cleared of terrorists after Boko Haram was routed by Nigerian troops in a counter insurgency operation. A fleeing resident of the village, Ahmad Musa, in a telephone interview, said the insurgents struck the village at about 12:30am on Thursday and started firing sporadic shots while razing down buildings, making residents to flee into nearby bushes. The resident said the insurgents slaughtered five trapped people, including three women and two men. ” We are now in deep sorrow,” Mr. Musa lamented. According to him, the insurgents had a field day for many hours as they operated unchallenged due to complete absence of security personnel in the area. Another resident of the area, John Apagwu, accused the government of leaving them to their own fate, corroborating Mr. Musa’s account that there was complete absence of security personnel in the area. “We want the government to deploy more security personnel for us because as Nigerians the government owes us a duty to protect us,” Mr. Apagwu said. “The fact that our area share borders with Sambisa forest and Cameroon republic should have been enough reason why government must deploy security personnel to protect us. If the government does not take proactive measures to stem the ugly insurrection of insurgents into our domain, they will kill all of us.” Mr. Apagwu added that already, people were fleeing the area en mass to Madagali for fear of their lives as they anticipated more attacks from the Boko Haram insurgents following the absence of security personnel in the area. Confirming the incident, the member representing Michika/Madagali Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Adamu Kamale, blamed the Federal Government for the wanton destruction of lives and properties. Mr. Kamale accused the government of paying lip service to the security of the people of the area. He noted that while other parts of Nigeria were in celebration mood over Nigeria’s independence anniversary, his people were mourning the wanton massacre of their loved ones. “We need more security personnel as our villages share borders with Sambisa forest,” the lawmaker said. “The federal government has been doing nothing in the past four months to secure our people as security is degenerating by the day. The security personnel are even compounding our predicaments as what they are saying on the pages of newspapers is contrary to was is happening on ground,” Mr. Kamale added. |
Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state on Thursday cancelled all forms of fanfare as well as stadium parades usually held on Independence Day celebrations. NAN reports that Fayose in a broadcast said there was nothing to celebrate in view of the economic situation in the country. “I do not think it is proper to engage in jamboree when it is almost becoming increasingly difficult to pay workers salaries. “The current situation demands sober reflection from all and we cannot pretend about this,” Fayose said. He ordered residents to stay at home and enjoy the celebration in low-key. NAN reports that as a result of the governor’s order, the usual activities associated with the celebration were absent in most parts of Ado-Ekiti on Thursday. However, there were few places where pockets of activities were organised by individuals or corporate bodies. |
Gunmen yesterday abducted Oba Adebisi Obademi, the traditional ruler of Apaa-Bunu community in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. An eyewitness told Daily Sun that the traditional ruler was abducted at about 7.30 a.m. yesterday on his way to Odo – Ape, a suburb community close to his domain. The account said the gunmen, numbering about five and suspected to be Fulani herdsmen might have whisked the traditional ruler on a motorbike to an unknown destination. While condemning the dastardly act, a prominent political leader in the area and a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Idris Wada, Duro Meseko, said the spate of kidnapping in the area was getting alarming and called on law enforcement agents to be pro active in their activities. Meseko, who also called on the police authorities to establish a permanent police station in the area also decried the activities of Fulani herdsmen, who he alleged were frequently fomenting trouble in the area. The governor’s aide also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly address the issue of kidnapping in the country, saying law abiding citizens were now living in fear. A source close to the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed the incident but blamed the people in the area for allowing kidnapping to thrive in the area. The source said when the police made attempts in the previous kidnap incidents to launch an attack on the hide out of the kidnappers in the area, the same people allegedly pleaded that they would rather pay the ransom to the kidnappers than exposing the victims to any form of hurt, adding that it makes the police helpless. The source, however, quoted the CP to have vowed to flush out criminals in the area even as he urged residents to report any suspicious movement in the area, saying the police would not tolerate any incident of break down of law and order. |
The Roman Catholic Church claims to have started in Matthew 16:18 when Christ supposedly appointed Peter as the first Pope. However, the honest and objective student of the Scriptures and history soon discovers that the foundation of the Roman church is none other than the pagan mystery religion of ancient Babylon. While enduring the early persecutions of the Roman government (65-300 A.D.), most of professing Christianity went through a gradual departure from New Testament doctrine concerning church government, worship and practice. Local churches ceased to be autonomous by giving way to the control of "bishops" ruling over hierarchies. The simple form of worship from the heart was replaced with the rituals and splendor of paganism. Ministers became "priests," and pagans became "Christians" by simply being sprinkled with water. This tolerance of an unregenerate membership only made things worse. SPRINKLED PAGANISM is about the best definition for Roman Catholicism. The Roman Emperor Constantine established himself as the head of the church around 313 A.D., which made this new "Christianity" the official religion of the Roman Empire. The first actual Pope in Rome was probably Leo I (440-461 A.D.), although some claim that Gregory I was the first (590-604 A.D.). This ungodly system eventually ushered in the darkest period of history known to man, properly known as the "Dark Ages" (500-1500 A.D.). Through popes, bishops, and priests, Satan ruled Europe, and Biblical Christianity became illegal. Throughout all of this, however, there remained individual groups of true Christians, such as the Waldensens and the Anabaptists who would not conform to the Roman system. The Papacy and Priesthood In the Bible there are no popes or priests to rule over the church. Jesus Christ is our High Priest (Heb. 3:1; 4:14-15; 5:5; 8:1; 9:11), and all true Christians make up a spiritual priesthood (I Pet. 2:5). Jesus Christ has sanctified all Christians who believe on Him (Heb. 10:10-11), so all priests today are unnecessary and unscriptural. Furthermore, the practice of calling a priest "father" is forbidden by Jesus Christ in Matthew 23:9. There is only ONE mediator between God and men (I Tim. 2:5). The Catholic church teaches that Peter was the first Pope and the earthly head of the church, but the Bible never says this once. In fact, it was Peter himself who spoke against "being lords over God's heritage" in I Peter 5:3. Popes do not marry, although Peter did (Mat. 8:14; I Cor. 9:5). The Bible never speaks of Peter being in Rome, and it was Paul, not Peter, who wrote the epistle to the Romans. In the New Testament, Paul wrote 100 chapters with 2,325 verses, while Peter wrote only 8 chapters with 166 verses. In Peter's first epistle he stated that he was simply "an apostle of Jesus Christ," not a Pope (I Pet. 1:1). The Roman papacy and priesthood is just a huge fraud to keep members in bondage to a corrupt pagan church. The Worship of Mary Roman Catholics believe that Mary, the mother of Jesus, remained a virgin after the birth of Jesus and was sinless all of her life. She is worshiped in the Catholic church as the "Mother of God" and the "Queen of Heaven." St. Bernard stated that she was crowned "Queen of Heaven" by God the Father, and that she currently sits upon a throne in Heaven making intercession for Christians. The Bible teaches otherwise. In the Bible, Mary was a sinner just like the rest of us. She said herself that she needed a "Saviour" (Lk. 1:47), and she even had to offer a sacrifice for her sins in Luke 2:24. Jesus was only her "firstborn" son, according to Matthew 1:25, because she later had other children as well (Mt. 13:55; Gal. 1:19; Psa. 69: . There's only ONE mediator between God and men, and it isn't Mary (I Tim. 2:5). The last time we hear from Mary in the Bible she is praying WITH the disciples, not being prayed to BY the disciples (Acts 1:14). The Bible never exalts Mary above anyone else. Neither should we.Purgatory The Catholic Church teaches that a Christian's soul must burn in purgatory after death until all of their sins have been purged. To speed up the purging process, money may be paid to a priest so he can pray and have special masses for an earlier release. This heresy began creeping into the Roman Church during the reign of Pope Gregory around the end of the sixth century, and it has no scriptural support. In fact, Jesus warned us about this pagan practice in Matthew 23:14 when He spoke of those who devoured widows houses and made long prayers for a pretence. Psalm 49:6-7 tells us that a person couldn't redeem a loved one, even if such a place did exist: "They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:" Peter addresses this issue in Acts 8:20 when he says, "Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money." God's word is clearly against the doctrine of purgatory. The Mass By perverting the Christian practice of the Lord's Supper (Mat. 26:26-28; I Cor. 11:23-27), the Catholic Church has created the Mass, which they believe to be a continual sacrifice of Jesus Christ: "Christ...commanded that his bloody sacrifice on the Cross should be daily renewed by an unbloody sacrifice of his body and blood in the Mass under the simple elements of bread and wine." (The Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 10, Pg. 13, Article: "Mass, Sacrifice of" ![]() Jesus never made such a command. If you'll check the above references in Matthew 26 and I Corinthians 11, you'll see for yourself that the Lord's Supper is a MEMORIAL and a SHOWING of Christ's death until He comes again. It is not a sacrifice. The Catholic Encyclopedia states the following: "In the celebration of the Holy Mass, the bread and wine are changed into the body and blood of Christ. It is called transubstantiation, for in the Sacrament of the Eucharist the substance of bread and wine do not remain, but the entire substance of bread is changed into the body of Christ, and the entire substance of wine is changed into his blood, the species or outward semblence of bread and wine alone remaining." (Vol. 4, pg. 277, Article: "Consecration" ![]() The Catholic Church teaches that the "Holy Mass" is a LITERAL EATING AND DRINKING OF THE LITERAL FLESH AND BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST. The priest supposedly has the power to change the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. Now, what does God's word say about such practices? If you'll read Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 17:11-12, and Acts 15:29, you will find that God absolutely FORBIDS the drinking of blood all through the Bible. Rome teaches that the Mass is a continual "sacrifice" of Jesus Christ, but God's word states that Jesus made the FINAL sacrifice on Calvary! This is made perfectly clear in Hebrews 10:10-12: "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God." The mass is unnecessary and unscriptural. Image Worship The Catholic religion is filled with all sorts of symbols, images, and relics. The Catechism of the Council of Trent states these words: "It is lawful to have images in the Church, and to give honor and worship unto them..." It's lawful to honor and worship images? Not according to God's word. Exodus 20:4-5 says, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me." Image worship is unscriptural and will end with the eternal damnation of those who practice it (Rev. 14:11). Salvation by Works Through infant baptism, keeping sacraments, church membership, going to mass, praying to Mary, and confession (just to mention a few), the Catholic church has developed a system of salvation through WORKS. God's word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not through works: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9) "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." (Romans 4:5) Jesus Christ came into this world to lay down His sinless life for YOU--to pay for your sins, because you couldn't. Jesus is your only hope for salvation. Only by receiving Him as your Saviour can you enter the gates of Heaven. There is no other way. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6) The Lord Jesus Christ has come and PAID for your sins by shedding His own Blood on Calvary. By receiving Him as your Saviour, you can be WASHED from all your sins in His precious Blood (Rev. 1:5; Col. 1:14; Acts 20:28; I Pet. 1:18-19). Notice these important words from Romans 5:8-9: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Jesus PAID your way to Heaven for you! By receiving Him as your Saviour, you will be receiving God's ONLY means of Salvation for you. Are you willing to forsake YOUR righteousness and receive Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your ONLY HOPE for Salvation? Romans 10:13 says, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:9 says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Are you willing to forsake your own righteousness, and trust Jesus Christ alone? He will save you just as He promised. Why not receive Him today and trust Him to give you a better way of life? |

Trade Union Congress tells CBN governor, Economy already in recession Featured National news 29 September 2015 Tweet CBN-Governor-Godwin-Emefiele-360x225The Trade Union Congress has faulted the position of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, on the state of the nation’s economy. Emefiele had warned that the economy was at risk of sliding into recession in 2016, adding that the implementation of the Treasury Single Account might affect the country’s economic growth. However, the Rivers State Chairman of the TUC, Mr. Chika Onuegbu, on Saturday dismissed the CBN governor’s claim and declared that the nation’s economy had since gone into recession. Speaking with our correspondent in a telephone interview, Onuegbu explained that with the decline in oil price and the inability of state governments to pay workers’ salaries, it was obvious that the nation’s economy had already gone into recession. The TUC chairman also identified the continued job losses in the private sector as one of the signs that the economy was already down. Onuegbu added, “When I say the economy of the country has already gone into recession, it is because there has been a steady decline in the revenue accruing to the country and you are a witness to the fact that at a point, workers were being owed salaries. “Apart from that, we can see that Nigerians have been experiencing job losses, especially in the private sector. If not for the rigidity in engagement of public sector employees, we would have seen job losses in that sector too. “The economy is rather struggling. Let us be frank, a year ago, the naira went for a little over N160 to a dollar. Today, it is about N220. I have heard that the CBN is saying that the economy may go into recession. “Basically, the truth is that the economy is already in recession. But the CBN will not come out and tell anybody that the economy is in recession because it may mean pressing the panic button.” Listing oil theft as one of the challenges affecting the nation’s economy, the TUC chairman lamented that government at all levels had not been able to cut down on their expenses. He said, “The economy was already in bad shape before the fall in oil price. But the fall in oil price and the massive amount of crude oil theft contributed majorly to the nation’s poor economy. “We started complaining in 2013 that the way things were going, workers’ salaries might not be paid. Unfortunately, politicians have not been able to cut down on their expenses because the citizens have allowed them to be profligate. “They (politicians) see Nigerians as the masses that have been conquered. Again, we have not been able to fight this situation because we as labour have not been united. We need 100 per cent unity to be able tackle the issue.” |

''Israel will no longer exist in 25 years''- Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei , the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Prince of Persia is a spirit being that the Holy Bible describes as a ''principality’’. He rules over the geographical space that was once known as Persia but that is now known as Iran. This is an entity that has the power to contend with even the most awesome of God's angels. Judging from the words of Ayatollah Khamenei I have little doubt that he is firmly under the grip of this spirit being. When he speaks, it is not him that is speaking but rather it is the Prince of Persia that is speaking through him. This contribution is about the folly of trusting such a man and the manifest danger of entering into a nuclear arms deal with him. Permit me to begin with an aside. One of the consequences of the war in Syria and Iraq is the massive inflow of refugees from the Middle East into Europe. It is sad to see millions of people fleeing their homeland and walking half way across the world to escape the savagery of war. The question that arises is this: why have Saudi Arabia and the other Arab Gulf states refused to assist their Muslim and Arab brothers and take them in? Mr. Paul Joseph Watson raised some pertinent points in a contribution to Global Research. He wrote: ‘’While European countries are being lectured about their failure to take in enough refugees, Saudi Arabia – which has taken in precisely zero migrants has 100,000 air conditioned tents that can house over 3 million people sitting empty. The sprawling network of high quality tents are located in the city of Mina, spreading across a 20 square km valley, and are only used for 5 days of the year by Hajj pilgrims. The tents could provide shelter for almost all of the 4 million Syrian refugees that have been displaced by the country’s civil war. While it refuses to take in any more refugees, Saudi Arabia has offered to build 200 mosques for the 500,000 migrants a year expected to pour into Germany. While Europe is being burdened by potentially millions of people who don’t share the same culture or religion as the host population, Gulf Arab states refuse to pull their weight, resolving only to throw money at the problem’’. Mr. Watsons’ observations are legitimate. I support the assertion that the west should take in as many Arab refugees as possible on humanitarian grounds. However there must be a moment of pause whilst we consider the following questions. Is it possible that some of those that have fled to Europe are actually ISIS members who are using this opportunity to plant themselves in the very heart of western civilization where they can wreak havoc? Is there any truth in the Russian narrative that the massive exodus of Arab refugees into Europe today is nothing short of a "Trojan horse" invasion? Again is it conceivable that the refusal of the Saudis to receive any of the refugees is borne out of the fact that the quickest way to change the racial and religious identity of Europe and to bring greater Arab and Islamic influence to bear on western culture and civilization is the mass migration of millions of Muslim refugees into Europe? This suspicion is reinforced by the fact that instead of taking in the refugees the Saudi authorities have instead offered to build 200 mosques in Germany in order to cater for the migrants that seek refuge there. Do those voices in Europe that have called for caution in receiving the refugees have a point? That remains to be seen. This brings us to the very heart of this contribution and begs for an answer to the following question. If such an influx of refugees into Europe has been triggered off by what is essentially a Middle Eastern proxy war between the U.S.A and Saudi Arabia on the one hand and Russia and Iran on the other, can one possibly imagine the sheer carnage and massive influx that a war between Iran and Israel would cause? What is happening today would be child's play when one considers that scenario. Yet those that support the Iran nuclear arms deal fail to appreciate the fact that strengthening Iran by lifting sanctions and putting hundreds of billions of dollars in the Iranian governments’ coffers takes us one step closer to such a conflict. Until Iran renounces its intention of spreading global jihad and until the clerics that rule that country stop their provocative rhetoric towards Israel there can never be peace. The only language that terror understands is an equal dose of terror. The policy of appeasement which the Iran nuclear deal represents is the worst thing that could have happened and those that have put it in place will have cause to deeply regret it. The greatest mistake that President Obama has made is to trust Iran. This is a country whose leaders have continuously referred to America as the ‘’great Satan’’ and Israel as the ‘’little Satan’’. This is a country whose Supreme Leader opens political rallies by chanting ‘’death to America’’. This is a country whose former President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said that Israel would be ‘’wiped off the face of the earth’’. This is a country whose leaders believe in the coming of the great Muslim ''Mahdi''- the so-called "Guided One" whose coming, according to shia eschatology and prophecy, "will be heralded by the raising of a black flag in Kurasan". This is a country whose leaders fully espouse the concept of global jihad and whose constitution specifically calls for the destruction of America and Israel. By this deal President Obama has given the Iranian government immense power and a new lease of life. This is a government that is perverse in all its ways and that presides over the affairs of a vicious and unrelenting theocratic state. This is a government that is led by a handful of misguided religious fanatics whose objective is to spread radical Islam throughout the world. This is a government that has taken away the basic freedoms of its' own people and held them in bondage for the last 36 years. This is a government that exports blood, death and terror by funding terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, the Mehdi Army and many others throughout the world. Given all this can anyone legitimately dispute the words of the former Foreign Minister of Israel, Mr. Avigdor Lieberman, who described the nuclear deal as ''a surrender to terror''? On his part the Defence Minister of Israel, Mr. Moshe Yaalon, said it is a deal that was built on Iran's ''lies and deceit''. He went further by describing the agreement as ''a tragedy for all who aspire for regional stability and who fear a nuclear Iran''. Most instructive of all was the contribution of Israel's Education Minister, Mr. Naftali Bennet, who warned that: ''The history books have been re-written again today and this period will be deemed particularly grave and dangerous''. He said, ''western citizens who get up for another day at work or school are not aware of the fact that about half a trillion dollars has been transferred to the hands of a terrorist superpower, the most dangerous country in the world, who has promised the destruction of nations and peoples. Today it may be us, tomorrow it may reach every country in the form of suitcase bombs in London or New York. Israel has done everything possible to warn of danger and in the end it will follow its own interest and will do whatever it takes to defend itself'' (See Peter Beaumonts’ article in the UK's, Guardian Newspaper, 14th July 2015). These men have spoken nothing but the truth and the world would do well to listen. Sadly that does not appear to be happening because the American government has been sold a dummy and they have taken the full plunge. I have always viewed Obama's policies in the Middle East and North Africa with suspicion. In my view he is the greatest friend that the radical jihadists have ever had in the White House and he has done more for their cause than any other American President. His support for the Iran nuclear deal confirms this. Permit me to conclude this contribution with a word to Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the man who said that Israel will ''no longer exist’’ in 25 years: hell will freeze over before Israel ever goes down. Mr. Binyamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, responded to him in an equally eloquent manner by saying, "anyone who attacks Israel will pay with his life". A word is enough for the wise. The day that Iran attacks Israel will be the day that Iran would have signed its own death warrant. They will be crushed beyond recognition and redemption. |
