The embattled former governor of Rivers state, Mr Rotimi Amaechi has express frustration over the Senate refusal to screen and confirm him as a Minister of the Federal republic of Nigeria based on numerous petitions against him. Mr Amaechi who was indicted by Rivers state government inquiry last month, demanded that the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) should exert pressure on the APC Senators to ensure that they will confirm him. He inform them, that if they are unable to pressure the Senators to confirm him either Tuesday or Wednesday, that the party should refund him the whole money that he used in sponsoring the President, party Governorship candidates and lawmakers across the country. The Party leadership are aware of how desperate Amaechi can be, and therefore resolved to be contacting APC senators and planning calling for an emergency meeting before Tuesday, next week to device means of getting a soft landing for the indicted former governor of Rivers state. According to one of the APC governors, Mr Amaechi spent over 80% of the campaign funds for the Buhari presidential election and that of other APC candidates in the last general election. A sharp division had emerged among senators of the APC and PDP, even in the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, handling the petition against Amaechi which have delayed the committee’s report. The senators had suspended the screening of nominees on Thursday, as a result of the intense battle over Amaechi and the failure of the Public Petitions Committee to submit its report. However, speaking to newsmen on Thursday, Melaye said: “We are going to screen nine of them on Tuesday and the remaining nine on Wednesday. The confirmation of all the nominees would be taken on Wednesday.” – Hope For Nigeria

At least six people have lost their lives in a “terrorist attack” carried out by unknown militants in the Timbuktu region of northern Mali, the government says. The militants raided a convoy of civilian vehicles guarded by police forces in an area some 100 kilometers (60 miles) from Gao, the biggest city in northern Mali, at around 7:30 a.m. local time (0730 GMT) on Tuesday, the government said in a statement. The Malian government did not specify who was traveling in the civilian vehicles and why they were being escorted by security forces. The terrorist attack with rocket-launchers caused the death of six civilians and wounded two others including a soldier,” according to the statement. A security source told AFP that the raid began when one of the vehicles hit a landmine planted by the militants. Two other vehicles arrived at the scene and were damaged before the militants “came out from their hiding place to fire on the civilians,” the source added. Three trucks hired by the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) later arrived and were set alight by the militants, according to the source. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack; however, such raids are often carried out or attributed to Tuareg-led rebels, who are operating mostly in Mali’s restive north. The Tuareg rebels took control of northern Mali, which they call Azawad, in January 2012. The country has witnessed months of turmoil ever since. |

By Marie-Therese Nanlong. Jos – Citizens of Plateau State have urged President Muhammadu Buhari and the Sultanate not to interfere in the activities of the Election Petition Tribunals in the State but rather intervene in the persistent clashes between Fulani and Berom in the State. The citizens identified as Greater Together Voice, GTV who passed a “vote of no confidence” on Governor Simon Lalong on his four months of governance also faulted the Governor on the manner he is handling the lingering crises in the State. In a statement issued in Jos at the weekend and signed by Mssrs Azi Madaki and Nanpak Gono, the group’s Public Relations Officer and Assistant Public Relations Officer respectively, they called on the Governor to balance the “lopsided and infamous appointments so far made in the State.” The statement reads, “We lend our voices to the maladministration, misrule, misgovernance and the total abandonment of the rule of law by the four months old All Progressives Congress, APC government of Governor Simon Lalong. “We call to order the Governor’s directionless administration to not only retrace its steps but take urgent initiatives to provide good governance in the State and fulfill all campaign promises made to the populace. “The Greater Together Voice is hereby passing a vote of no confidence on the Lalong administration in its 100 days in office and therefore call on President Buhari and the Sultanate not to interfere in the activities of the Election Petition Tribunals in Plateau State. “They should come to the rescue of the people of Plateau North, particularly the Berom ethnic group which on the verge of extinction through the genocidal activities of the Fulani militia who believe that with the President as their grand patron, they are infallible.” The duo further called on Governor Lalong without any delay to settle the backlong of workers’ salaries and pension arrears since he has collected “N10.8 billion loans from UBA and Zenith banks, access N4.2 billion LNG fund released and received N5,3 billion CBN bailout, among others.” |
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) yesterday tore into the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, dismissing its statement the on the recent kidnap of former Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Chief Olu Falae, by Fulani herdsmen as not only reckless but unbecoming of a group like Afenifere. The ACF said that the Afenifere statement demanding the abolishment of nomadic cattle rearing, and criminalizing the Fulani on account of the action of a few, was out of place. “Nigeria has over 250 tribes and Yoruba is just one of them. For it to threaten other tribes just because of an alleged crime of some suspected herdsmen is unnecessary, emotional and contrary to the spirit and letters of the Nigerian constitution which guarantees free movement and association of citizens in any part of the country,” ACF said in the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mohammad Ibrahim. It said it “is embarrassed and disappointed with the communique issued by the respected pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, after its meeting of 29th September, 2015 held in Akure at the residence of its leader, Pa Rueben Fasoranti “In November 2000 when some OPC hoodlums attacked Northerners in the Southwest region, ACF did not blame it on the Yoruba, rather it urged the government to arrest the perpetrators that committed the crime. “ACF considers criminality in any form as a serious offence and strongly condemned the kidnapping of Chief Olu Falae a former presidential candidate of the joint ticket of APP/AD in the 1999 general election which the North overwhelmingly supported him. |
I have read a lot of stories on nairaland about sex and relationship..but as a parent or elder one the best we can do is to educate our ward on this things and not to shy a way like most parents do in pretense of not to spoil the kids but I will tell you what I observed in the present day child what I never knew when I was 10, surprisingly a child of 7 knows that.. When I was still very young I think I was in Jss 3 then a friend came to my house, when he came we sat and was discussing but we were just talking normal talk because my dad was in then my dad noticed we were kind of coding talk he came out dressed and told me he was going out..I never knew he left the back door open then he left I never knew he went through the back door and went into his room..as soon as he left we changed our topic we started talking about girls it was still innocent then but I was curios to know how sex feels and the pleasures so I do talk to my friends more about it because I believe it was safe and you know friends now what they will do is to advice you to do it and not how it's done we talked for about an hour before changing the topic not knowing my dad heard everything but he kept mute..when we started talking about football my dad came out of his room mehn we were both shocked and i asked my dad I thought he went out he said yes he just came in now not long i wasn't really my self my friend immediately told me guy I done dey go we go see for field he left.i was very worried knowing the kind of person my dad is but I wasn't really sure if he heard anything or not.at night when we were both eating my old man just said I heard what you and your friend was talking about mehn food no gree go inside my mouth again.i just kept mute I couldn't say a word all I was just doing was looking for a way to run out incase he wants to pound me but surprisingly he just said you re a man and we are not together always..you go to school in the morning and I don't go there with you I don't know what you do in school but what I will say to you is that premarital sex is a sin and if you by any chance want to do it use condom if you don't see don't do Aids is real and the day you give woman belle that they you stop school and know the kind of persons dad is he keeps his word ..does word sank into me I was scared even the arrangement I had for a date I cancelled I always do remember that word and the street i grew up from most guys has kids even before there were through with secondary school including that my friend that was advising me to try it ..I never forgot the advice even after I lost him years back...it's better we educate our kids our selfs than allow outsiders do the teaching for us thanks .. |
