National universities commission NUC has revealed that it scrapped sub-degree diploma programmes in nigeria universities system .this was contained ina statement by the commission's deputy mrs Adebukola olatunji ,in abuja according to her the ban was part of the decision at an interactive session of the secretary of the NUC prof. Abubakar rasheed with vice chancellors of federal,state and private universities . ''Rasheed told vice-chancellors running sub degree diploma programmes was not the business of universities but that of polytechnics. The secretary remined them in 2001 federal government issue a circular statement that sub-degree diploma programmes could not be used as employment or promotion in public service.
