collykay:74% means you had around 3.7 over a maximum obtainable 5.0 I won't lie to you my sister, that is a "bit" low to get fully-funded research based masters.... But hey! Don't lose hope yet, dat doesn't mean some schs won't accept that. You just have to check each school's requirements one by one you can check like 20 schs... Tedious you say? Nah! Its really worth it cuz you'll smile at last I might have assisted you in ur search journey but i have my hands filled right now on personal "research". A tip: don't forget to contact graduate secretaries (they usually reply back on an average of 2-3 working days) if their minimum requirements isn't indicated on the website or you can't find it. And please don't start with the top schools like Toronto or McGill or British Columbia etc. You can start with MUN, windsor, ottawa, western etc. Just try to make Google ur boyfriend for now, trust me he won't break ur heart. 2 Likes |

Abdoor44:Bros, how does the cumulative of 4.62 and 4.00 become 2.92? You are kidding, right? Except you had like 2.0 in ur 400 first semester and 1.0 in ur 500 first semester. Abeg calculate dat tin well ooo You said ur overall percentage was 71.7% that equates to 3.58 over a maximum obtainable 5.0 I no know where dat 2.92 dey come from |

wealth360:no one said it is compulsory, its just better for one to know if he/she has "hope" if ur CGPA is "crazy" and you gat solid research intent, one can apply straight away. People get admitted without filling the form like in ur case, but it is not general. |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 10:02am On Oct 13, 2016 |
ehixestgratias:its just straightforward 4.0 / 5.0 = 80% 3.0/4.0 = 75% 5.7/7.0 = 81.4% Just divide ur CGPA by the maximum obtainable GPA and multiply by 100 to get ur percentage. Don't forget to always indicate it wen writing to supervisors, don't just state ur cgpa, tell him/her the maximum obtainable also 3 Likes |

V.O is one if the last things you should be bothered abt for now ... V.O is the visa officer. Get admission first and then you can think about the V O and ways to "capture" his heart. For U of S, check ur departmental website for "pre-app' form (it is not compulsory though it is for ur own good). Fill the form, then the form will be distributed to their faculty members (supervisors) to pick the ones they feel are 'qualified'. If you are picked, you will then be asked to apply formally. NB: Being asked to apply formally does not imply automatic admission. Apart from the faculty members, the graduate studies committee will still review ur app to see if you met thier requirements. Also, if you do not get a supervisor, don't bother applying to Saskatchewan, it is as good as throwing $120 in the bin. It is clearly stated there that even if graduate studies committee decides to give you an admission, if no supervisor accepts you as his student then it is as good as no admission. |

sleekysoft:The thing is that is not the only thing you are going to be writing, that is in fact the easiest. Even after a supervisor picks you, when applying formally you will still need to upload your research intent and alao why you want to pursue graduate studies over there. As for cajoling supervisors, there is no specific format because you have to relate to them as per their research work. But ur first 2 statements matter a lot in deciding whether a prof will continue reading ur msg or just "mark as spam"... Yeah some actually do that. You can start ur first paragraph like. Dear Dr. Wang (use appropriate titles, don't use Mr. cuz all faculty members have a title) My name is Obasanjo Jonathan Buhari, a graduate of the peace-keeping department in University of sambisa, Nigeria. I graduated in September 1684 with a GPA of 4.0/5.0 ( 80%) (this is important, state ur percentage, don't give ur supervisor work to do by analyzing ur result, if he can't see wat he is looking for straight up, chances are that he would just move to the next msg, afterall he receives hundreds of msgs from prospective students). My GRE score is bla bla bla i did not take the TOEFL since Nigeria is identified as an English-speaking nation. I intend to pursue a masters program Msc in bla bla bla department in September 2017, and after going through their supervisors list, i discovered that you were the best choice as your research work focuses mainly on "anti-terrorism studies". Ever since my undergraduate program, i have been actively interested in " anti-terrorism" , i read your article "saving the northern nigeria" and also "making sambisa a peaceful heaven" which you co-authored with Tafawa Balewa,1952 (no forget put reference oooo, its part of research, of course ur examination don start), in which you explained its possibility using "amnesty-deceit methods" to lure out the floating entities and go hardcore on the remaining valence kingpins. I have been "actively" involved with the "anti-terrorism" campaign in Nigeria (abeg no put strong lie for here, u can easily get busted, "actively" mean say u get ID card/paper/reference from a group, wey u fit upload to prove am) I have confirmed that i have met the minimum requirements for admission into antiterrorism studies as an international student (this is important, make him know say you dey eligible to apply) and i would be highly interested in working actively under yoyr supervision. I have also attached a copy of my C.V and transcript for your review. I would appreciate if you could kindly review the attached documents and let me know if i am qualified. Thank you very much Sir for your time. Sorry i had to use antiterrorism as a case study, u never indicated ur course, it would have been better if u did. Also, this is a draft, it is not to be used as it is, you can modify at your own convenience and come up with something more superb. Last tip: (do not forget to add at least one extracurricular activity, trust me, it goes a long way in "bringing" you out) Lastest tip: don't hold back, pour out ur involvements/achievements related to ur specialty. 16 Likes 1 Share |

Dampop1: You must know that schs have standards, check the dept website of those schs and read their minimum requirements. As for Saskatchewan, even before you apply officially, there is this pre-application form which you would be asked to fill (for your own good) which will then be circulated to the faculty members (supervisors/professors) to approve. Then if luckily, you get approved you would be contacted to apply formally. NB: being asked to apply formally isn't a guarantee to admission. As for research intent, Google is ur best friend. Don't beef him But wait oooo, is it 3.06/4.0 or 3.06/5.0 ? If it is over 5.0, then i am afraid, the Almighty needs to be involved with your app. Nevertheless, trust in the only one God, the Most High and hope for the best. But have you considered other options incase ur cgpa doesn't meet their minimum requirements? |

BeingGabriel: Seems you are right about that. The ECE department states that international students applying for masters in electrical and computer engineering are strongly advised to be in the first class range. Not only that, also they must be in the top 7% of their undergraduate class. This gives an absolute idea on how competitive admission into the dept is. I don't actually blame them, afterall they are mouthed in canada and they are ranked in the top 50 best uni in the world. You can check the minimum requirements for ur course on the departmental website. 1 Like |

BeingGabriel: I also asked him the same wen i first read it Waiver means from the school's assessment he doesn't need to take IELTS/TOEFL, the Dean accepted his proposal that he already has the level of English language required for graduate studies, hence that requirement is "waived" for him. Though you will need supporting documents for that, from your lecturer(referee) to consent to your English language skills |

My bad!!! I think the above is for when you are paying your school application fee for admission Pls which "application fee" are you referring to? Admission? Visa? Etc |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 12:48pm On Oct 10, 2016 |
supergata: Why don't you use master card/visa card to pay your fees online? I think other means usually attract extra charges (not in all cases though) When you get there you'll sort urself out with an account. |

penitential: Of course! Check the department website of the sch u want to apply to, like in my case ECE, most ECE dept accept students from Computer science, physics... Though according to them ur GPA must be "strong" for them to admit you... Though i know some schs in canada that don't accept people for M.Eng except they are working for a company and the company sponsors them to sch, therefore their final project will ne something that such company recommends or needs. You can apply for MAsc, you have better chances, depending on ur final undergraduate results especially the last 2 yrs. 1 Like 1 Share |

Futurewiser: You were the one that misunderstood the post. I clearly stated that "manitoba" doesn't necessarily require to you have a supervision b4 u are admitted, i never said same for Saskatchewan. By the way, why are you "shying away" from contacting those guys? U fit cajole dem na, just write tantalizing stuffs, write all your life-achievements, in fact including ur "thinking-achievement" related to his research area. For example in my case i would whine the prof that "based on his so and so publication in x and y journal, i strongly believe that this and that is possible within the next few years" all it takes is small research into his works. No doubt if u whine them well dem go gree. Downside is that, he might expect more from you in return As for me, i'll bother myself with finding a supervisor to accept me in research-based masters so i can "enjoy" full funding. No one funds course-based (exceptional cases exist though) 3 Likes |
