@ Osemigho,
How is your search for supervisor at UBC going? For my own program it comes after application review and one has to travel to Canada to search for a supervisor. Is it similar with your own program? View the attached doc
odikwa this na one chance ooo... See as dem put the red line sef, if supervisor not found. Program can not start.
So person go come back naija if him no see supervisor? sad my brother double ur hustle to get supervisor biko.
If possible, try to get b4 application review sef

Thanks boss
I have applied to UBC before.
Should I still apply to other universities?
The application fee dey worry me ohhh
Kindly advise me??
U applied to only UBC and you are in doubt whether to apply to other schs? Bros you dey joke angry
You have to overlook the 100CAD app fee for other schs and apply. Infact apply to a minimum of 3 except you are a first class graduate.
Pls don't ever put all your eggs in one basket. Its very risky.

Pls I am new here... I need someone to pls educate me and put me through all these... I applied to McGill University for Msc in Agricultural Economics and presently my application is in review. I don't know my fate as per getting a full funding or scholarship. What and what do I need to do. Someone told me without GRE and some other Exams I can't get admitted... I wish I knew this thread earlier. Pls help a brother
abeg give that person one hot slap, just one, for spreading wrong info.
My brother, GRE simply increases your chances as an international student, it doesn't mean you can't be admitted without it, when no be US.
On a side note, that McGill wey you apply to ehn, no be sere sere ooo. I hope you applied to other schs sha
Speak with your supervisor as regards funding. He is your fund master.

I am not a grad student at McGill or any other institution and therefore know nothing abt their admission process. In fact i have not even applied to any sch. Answers given are simply based on little research via Google.

Majority of the schools request for tuition deposit of at least $1000 before sending the unconditional offer.
what!!!! shocked
Then that wouldn't work for a case like this
It is usually colleges and few unis that do that
But some research masters program do not request for deposit before granting admission.

University of Waterloo (Home of Blackberry) is arguably the best IT school in Canada, you can't really go wrong with that.
actually he was asking abt PGD/PGC and not masters.

By the way, Waterloo is only extremely mouthed in IT in their undergrad programs, you can't compare Waterloo to the likes of McGill, UofToronto and UBC in terms of postgrad programs. Waterloo is usually the fourth and sometimes fifth after UofA, check any ranking you wish to go through online to confirm.

Interesting...your advise maybe useful. ..I grad economics with cgpa 3.4 ...worked in sales n finance n operation ....applied 4 supply chain management but vo denied....planning to retrace my app....which course is related I can apply4?
Thanks

sorry for your refusal, if course mismatch are part of the reasons and you really want to do your supply ish, try to get admitted into economics - which of course you don't want to do and also your supply chain management.
Apply for TRV using the economics admission, when you get to canada continue ur life with supply chain management.
Downside to this plan is that you have to lose around $100 application fee or so to a program you would never attend. At least its better than silly refusals on course mismatch

By the way, i don't know any related course to economics. Other people on the forum can help you out.

Guys I was refused admission

Dear applicant,

Thank you for applying to our College. The Admission Selection Committee has received your application and cannot grant you admission to the 420.AA, Computer Science Technology: Administrative Data Processing program.

The reason for this refusal is: Inadequate school grades for this program.
simply apply to other (lower) schools. Never bank on just one sch except your uncle is the chair of admission committee.

it's well. But I thi it's better to apply with Masters then one can switch after getting the visa. I got my trv with Master admission but a changing to something else. My process time wa within one month despite the fact medical mail has been sent a week before I checked but it's God's favor sha. I noticed something also it's better on choose a course relate to your undergraduate study or work experience then course can b changed after getting visa. I want to go social service worker but I have two degrees one in Law and another in Public administration and hav work experience in a management setting. The best option was to apply with MBA .but in all also let us be prayerful.
Smart move!
if you finished from a course, get admission into that course/related course and also the dept of your choice, apply for ur TRV with the aligned course and after you are granted, the ball is now in your court and you can resume your intended course in mapleland.
I hope people learn from this and stop getting course mismatch refusal, its annoying to be refused for that silly reason even after scaling through financial strength and home tie.

University of Waterloo is well respected in your field of study. A lot of tech and finance firms in Toronto put UWaterloo grads in your field on top of their hiring list. This is coming from friends who are either working with Uwaterloo grads or attended Uwaterloo. Thats all i can tell you. All the best.

yeah... Waterloo is arguably one of the bests in the world when it comes to software but unfortunately they do not offer grad studies in software engineering, only undergrad. because wetin dem wan teach for masters wey their crazy undergrads never sabi?
The software eng is jointly offered by Electrical and Computer Engineering and computer science, he can do his masters in either ECE or CS, and for the purpose of obtaining visa, i'll advise him to remain on the ECE path.

Good day Guys,

It been a minute since i last logged in. Returned from Denver yesterday after a 9 days trip to usher in my spouse to the USofA. Omo men, you guys are probably used to visa interview transcript and departure transcript. Let me start something new, transcript from a sponsor, lol.

America is super pricey and they only care about your money. Advise to people in naija, I beg if your sponsor no stand well I BEG no leave naija. If money no too dey i beg go Canada cos the place is cheaper and you can work off campus for 20hours as a student. I was told by the international student office at University of Denver that for thr first year one can only work on campus, to get campus job sef no easy. My forecast was that my woman would get a gig on or off campus, little did i know that America no be as them dey take talk am.

Eh, so this is why VO's put so much emphasis on who is sponsoring you. Anyways, my journey started in Calgary, Canada which is a 2hrs 30mins flight to Denver. Jesus, biko see expenses below:

Return ticket to Denver = $586
Rent= $900/month, paid 2 months = $1800 (1 bedroom apartment close to bus station and grocery store. Most importantly, very close to Wing Stop, lol)
Cable & Internet- 150mbps (Comcast) = $99.99/month + $100 deposit since we didn't have SSN= $199.99
Power= Got this setup but expecting first bill in the mail in Sept. forecast $40/month
Security Deposit = $200
They had to do background check before signing the lease= $100 for the both of us (Never heard of this in Canada)
Stayed in Hotel on the first day = $135 + $12 parking + GST
Wifey registered for 3 courses which cost = $7500 ($2500 per course)
Health Insurance= $2660 for one year
Car rental= $56/day for 9 days, used EZ Rental = $504 + GST
House furnishing, student style which includes couch, tv, bed frame, mattrass, etc = $1800
Walmart shopping which includes grocery, pillow case, microwave etc = $386

Total expenses for the 9 day welcome trip cost roughly $15k

Biko, ejo, please in any other language wey people understand, after this experience e be like say Canada come make better sense for hustling students oh. I never even land I met a Nigerian girl pleading with my wife to stay in her apartment because she has no money and life is kinda tough for her in yankee. Wetin concern me, I agreed since I will barely live in the apartment.

To people still in naija, I beg discuss well with your sponsor before leaving naija, America wey i see no easy at all. At the end, its worth waiting 5 weeks for that Canada visa oh. lol.

This is not meant to scare anyone, I am just sharing my experience. Make i go back to my job sothat I can generate more money for American government to chop.

Stay blessed guys
i came across this in the usa thread just now.

Smiles.

Low GRE (148/148; 3.0) + limited funds for application fee + little reading here and there on current PR conditions for international students in US and Canada + trump policy uncertainty = Focus on Canada alone. Thanks.

It is good to have reasons to why you are doing what. I respect your reasons and choice but I believe good packaging and faith will help overcome your fear.
Many were rejected by US but got Canada at first trial. I guess you go rethink and run back to canada now. lol. Just focus, read, package and pray.
I am just an admission seeker.
chai!!! I don even forget say na trump era we dey, wetin i dey think sef. cry
No be my fault, as i dey see pple dey ball out daily, to remain for this country sef come dey do me somehow.

I will also be applying to at least two schools in USA this January also. I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket.

A downside is that you have to take GRE and IELTS or have you taken the tests?
By the way, are you self funded or your attendance is dependent on funding?

personally, as per canadian system, this is the first time that i see the word "scholarship" used beside the word "college".
I know universities offer scholarships but i never knew colleges do so too, i felt they were just out to milk cash out of students and thats all.

But after a quick google search, i discovered i was wrong. The below link will give you all the info you need

Speaking of Ucal, confirm whether you need to take the IELTS from ur grad sec. I mailed the grad sec of my dept recently and she said the dept does not recognize Nigeria as an english speaking nation and i must take IELTS or else my app won't even be attended to.
I even tried on 2 to 3 occasions to explain to her dat my whole edu had been in English, she just told me... Look this is my job, you need to take English test. Since then, i just carry mind commot from Ucal. So pls confirm from your department to avoid stories that touch the heart.

Good day house, please my younger bro got refused and the following were ticked;

Travel history and
Purpose of visit

Please how do we tackle these in our next application?
"travel history" is just an accompanying reason, neglect it. (Except you have issues with immigration in other countries)

Focus on tackling purpose of visit. For starters, your brother needs to carefully draft a solid and very convincing SOP to explain why he wants to study that course and why he chose Canada to further his studies, and if possible include future goals.

Please I want to know between studying chemical engineering and IT which of them has a better pay in Canada?
undergrad or postgrad?
If undergrad, then the below does not apply to you.
For post grad studies, pls forget abt all these nonsense talks (sorry for the harsh word here ) abt one course having better prospects for now. Just choose the one that will make you get TRV. A lot of people are being denied daily based on course mismatch so it will be good to learn from others mistakes.

You did chem eng in undergrad? Just go for chem eng in masters
You did IT/computer science/ software eng in undergrad? Go for IT stuff.

Then when you get to canada, CIC will no longer be a problem and you can have a say in your life by changing sch and course and even program if you still wish to do so, by simply notifying them.
For now, just play safe. Play by the rules.

Now to answer your question after all my unnecessary rant, IT pays better, depending on your skills and there is just no end to IT jobs in a developed world.
