michaelbelgium:well it depends on the dept. in engineering and sciences, 4.0 is too low to get you admitted into UBC (except of course God wants you there), the stats they released showed that the average entry gpa was 90% for engineering and sciences and this starts from 4.5/5.0. (That doesn't mean those that have below this can not get admitted, as long as you prove ur research prowess you stand a chance). Just so you know i have seen someone with 94% rejected at UBC in MAsc for electrical and computer engineering. The day i saw this i could not sleep well at night, i felt i had zero hope. Its not surprising, afterall na top school and it is rated among the top30 in the world. |

platypelloid:if it is a research-based masters MAsc then of course you need to, but if it is course-based M.Eng you don't. You do not need IELTS/TOEFL, UBC recognizes Nigeria as an English-speaking nation. As for GRE, it is not compulsory but highly recommended for international students, infact one supervisor wrote on his webpage that any student that wants to contact him to be his supervisor must present GRE score, immediately i saw this, i just zeroed all hopes of him being my supervisor. The hunt continues... |

Rickywowoz:He never said he doesn't need funding from the school, i am sure he needs thats why he is goung for Msc instead of M.Eng, another perk of thesis-based is that he can proceed directly to PhD if he wishes. Best bet is for him to contact supervisors beforehand and know whether to continue with the application or look elsewhere but i believe his 4.36 might take him in, 4.36 (87%) no be joke na. |

kanadian:dat ur "sir" made me feel like an old man, i am only a young guy. I see no correlation btw masters and NECO, you only need to upload certificates and transcripts from all post-secondary institutions so forget abt all those WAEC/GCE/NECO/JAMB stuffs except you were the best in jamb and need to prove it to ur supervisor by sending ur result to him privately, i am pretty sure the university has no use for that. 3 Likes |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 12:53pm On Nov 23, 2016 |
kanadian:i don't think anyone here might be able to give you a correct answer, go to the school's website and mail the undergraduate coordinator or secretary, you should be able to get first hand info which of course can be trusted But seriously i never knew NECO was still existing sha? Why not use the conventional WAEC/GCE which is internationally recognized, i don't know abt NECO but u should be able to get schs that will accept it, check the website of each and every sch u feel like applying to then eliminate those that do not accept it. Just get ready for a little research infact prepare a template and mail all undergraduate cordinators of schs in canada |

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 5:48am On Nov 23, 2016 |
michaelbelgium:its very much possible bro (and thats exactly what i plan on doing) You just have to explain to the supervisor what excites you abt this new found love and what ignited your passion... Also tell him how research-capable you are, explain ur research strength in ur former area and how you are determined to do better in this. Since your case is like this, it would do you good to read at least one or two of his publications and comment on them and explaining why you would like to work with him... Don't forget to tell him you tooo took the course, did some online and offline intensive reading abt it and even scored an A in it and you found out that it was fun. And pls don't put all your eggs in one basket, msg all profs in that area and don't depend on just one prof who may not even have funds to accept any extra graduate student for now |

Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 7:56am On Nov 15, 2016 |
Guys living in BC Can a UBC grad student survive on $10k per year for personal expenses after paying for tuition? What i have been reading online is like one needs to budget $25k a year to live in Vancouver. |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 9:49pm On Nov 14, 2016 |
taiwo92:no, i am a prospective applicant just like you, i am just waiting for my scopeless sch to end their protest, organize convocation and hand over my certificate and transcript before i apply. So right now the VC of my sch has just paused my progress and i hope he does not forget to press play soon. ECE means Electrical and Computer Engineering |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 8:05pm On Nov 14, 2016 |
taiwo92:Then don't bother abt that, probably that was for ECE or maybe i was mistaken |
Travel / Re: Travelling To Canada Part 11 by Riddeek: 6:02pm On Nov 14, 2016 |
taiwo92:of course its not compulsory for you to fill the pre qualification form. Its just a way of saving your money and time, if your CGPA doesn't meet up with their requirements then you won't be picked, but if u have a very strong GPA you can apply straight away but i'll advise you to still fill the pre qualification form, afterall you have nothing to lose. As for supervisors, its not compulsory you contact b4 filling the "pre qualification form", you will indicate those you would like to work with and then the form will be sent to them for analysis of your academic qualifications, then if you get a positive response from thr department, then you can contact each of the 3profs differently to know which one picked you and to choose him as your preferred supervisor while applying. One other thing you should also know is that, you might end up with a totally different supervisor if your preferred supervisor does not pick you and another supervisor is impressed by your academic qualifications/research ability. |

henrinco:wow! I never knew pple could defer admission even without having applied for visa, i thought admission could only be deferred based on visa rejection and one would need to provide proof. Is this peculiar to MUN alone or can i defer my admission to any canadian sch to the next intake just because i want to defer it? |

Good day guys! Though i know your opinions do not reflect the direct opinions of the VOs but help me address this issue of funds. Is the VO concerned only with the tuition fees + 10000CAD or does scholarship from the institution count too? For example, if my tuition is 15k CAD per yr, and i get a scholarship from the sch around 20kCAD per yr, which means i have 5k extra... Can i then have a balance of 7k CAD in my account, since 7+5 = 12kCAD which is sufficient for a yr? Or the VO is not bothered about the scholarship/bursary and i must show funds for my 15k tuition + 10k living expense = 25kCAD for a year Abeg make una help me torchlight this matter |
