There's a lot of difference between the Sultanate council and the CAN.

The Sultanate council is the head of the Islamic affairs in Nigeria. This was created in Sokoto even before Nigeria was joined by Lugard.
The council is never polical.

CAN on the other have are composed is some associations from the Christians. It was created long after. All the leadership are mainly from the south with the only NC from Kogi named John Olorunfemi Something (more like Yoruba).

CAN has always being political and actively vibrant in PDP politics.
