Suspected sea pirates attacked a tugboat and killed three crew members at Ekebiri Waterways in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa. An oil services vessel with a combined team of security escort on board and civilians was said to have been attacked on Friday.

NAN reports that two of the victims of the incident were security escorts and a civilian crew member (a woman) of the tugboat towing a vessel.

Asinim Butswat, spokesman for Bayelsa police command, who confirmed the incident said one police operative was still missing as his remains were yet to be recovered.

He said a response team dispatched to the crime scene rescued eight occupants of the ill-fated boat while efforts are underway to arrest the suspected armed men.

“On Sept. 22, at about 18.45hrs, a Tugboat, towing a Barge with a combined team of policemen from the Nigerian Inland Waterways, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and civilians on board was attacked by suspected sea pirates,” he said. “The incident took place at Ekebiri Waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa. “A reinforced team arrived shortly and rescued one policeman, three NSCDC personnel and four civilians.

“However, a policeman, one NSCDC personnel and a civilian were shot dead by the sea pirates; one policeman is still missing.”

He further said the remains of the victims had been recovered and deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Mortuary, Yenagoa, for autopsy.

According to him, a search party has been deployed to find the missing policeman while all security operatives in Southern Ijaw have been alerted.

He also said efforts are ongoing to arrest the culprits.

The commissioner of police, Rivers state, Ahmed Zaki has revealed that 32 suspected members of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) have been arrested. He said they were arrested for allegedly being behind the fracas that occurred at Oyigbo local government area of the state.

Speaking to journalists at the command headquarters in Port-Harcourt, Zaki said that the area has been restored to normalcy and vowed that all those responsible for the unrest will be severely dealt with.

He also debunked reports that a mosque was burned down.He said: "The said group who had no justification for their action also attacked a Police van from Training School Nonwa en route Port Harcourt International Airport and burnt the Police van to ashes.

The driver Inspr. Emaikwu Ochochi was badly injured and is now on admission. They also carted away one AK 47 riffle with sixty rounds of live Ammunition and one Berretta Pistol with 8 rounds of live Ammunition.

At the end of their rampage, many vehicles were damaged and stores burnt.The timely response of the Police restored normalcy and brought the situation under control as I made adequate deployment to arrest the situation. The mob were dispersed with minimum force thereby restoring law and order. At the end of which 23 IPOB members were arrested.

However, the Command was awaken to yet another sad incident today at about 0010hrs, where the same dare devil IPOB members regrouped and launched a surprise attack on the Mobile Policemen stationed at Oyigbo junction, killing a Police Sergeant identified as Sgt. Steven Daniel attached to 19 PMF, injuring two and set a patrol vehicle ablaze as a result of which a Sterling SMG Riffle belonging to the deceased Sgt. was taken by the hoodlums.

They were however repelled by the Police, where about 9 of them were arrested, bringing the total number of suspects arrested to 32. They are helping us in Investigation and will be due in Court as soon as our Investigation is concluded."

PHUKET - A Nigerian man has been arrested for allegedly robbing and shooting a Russian woman during a break-in at her house in Muang district on Aug 30.

Chijioke James Chukwuweike, 27, was detained at a rented house in tambon Rawai in Muang district around 10pm on Thursday, Pol Maj Gen Theera Thipchaoren, chief of Phuket police, said at a news breifing on Friday.

Police found 92 items in his house believed to have been stolen. His Thai wife, Sasipa Nakhonthaisong, 33, also faces theft charges. Police allege she had sold a stolen computer notebook they seized earlier, before raiding the house.

They had a young baby with them when arrested.

Mr Chukwuweike is charged with theft and the attempted murder of Elena Kharenko, 51, a Russian woman, after breaking into her house around 2.30am on Aug 30.

The woman told police she woke up and saw a burglar inside her house near Rawai beach. The burglar shot and wounded her and made off with a safe containing valuables.

Police examined closed-circuit television footage, leading to the arrest of the Nigerian.

Mr Chukwuweike denied robbing or attacking the woman.

Police investigators allege he committed a string of home burglaries, targeting the houses of wealthy foreigners. Several house owners had filed complaints with Chalong police.

On Friday, three of them arrived at the police station to identify goods stolen from them.

Police said the suspect was in Thailand illegally. He was not working, but still possessed many valuable items and cash.

he Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the interim forfeiture of assets valued at USD16,441,906 linked the Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told Justice Abdulaziz Anka that the assets are suspected to be proceeds of corruption.

Recalled that details of cash and properties so far been traced to the Diezani Alison-Madueke was revealed by the EFFC a few weeks back.

In a detailed article by two officers of its Public Affairs Directorate – Tony Orilade and Aishah Gambari, the former minister was said to have about NGN47.2 Billion and USD487.5 Million in cash and properties in Lagos and Abuja.

Latest data disclosed by Thomson Reuters predict that Nigeria’s net crude oil export is expected to crash to 1.72 million barrels per day by October.


Reuters said while some cargoes would likely be added, the current plan stands at a five-month low, and was expected to remain slightly below September’s loadings of 1.88 million bpd.

August’s exports had been on track to exceed 2 million bpd, a 17-month high, but the closure of both of the export pipelines for Bonny Light crude pulled them lower. The final schedule also included roughly 1.88 million bpd.

Shell’s lifted its latest force majeure declaration on Bonny Light early this week, meaning all the nation’s export grades are again free of restriction.

Nigeria’s oil output has rebounded this year, aided by concerted government efforts to placate militants in the restive Niger Delta region where the bulk of the nation’s crude is produced, but it has struggled to maintain peak output levels.

Theft from the nation’s oil pipelines in the Delta region leads to frequent shutdowns, limiting output.

Additionally, unrest still threatens some oil infrastructure despite the government’s efforts.

Three cargoes of Akpo condensate, with 97,000 bpd, are also set to load in October, compared with four cargoes of 133,000 bpd in September.



Nigeria is Africa’s largest crude exporter only followed by Angola. The country’s crude oil exports fell to an all-time low after militant activities in the Niger Delta led to a wanton destruction of pipeline facilities and oil installations.

According to the 34-year-old father of one who is far from happy with President Buhari, the second and third quotes that should address the AREWA YOUTHS by is a twist and not an outright condemnation.
He wrote:
I am one of those who waited for the President’s speech and if I say I am not disappointed at some part of his speech will be an act of hypocrisy. It goes without saying that the first quote up there by the President is a reference to Nnamdi Kanu and his people and the term, irresponsible elements shows serious condemnation with a follow up reference to Late Chief Ojukwu’s visit to him.
However the second and third quotes that should address the AREWA YOUTHS by Mr. President is a twist and not an outright condemnation. This is a big GOOF from the President and can be likened to President Trump infamous line that got the America media houses ranting for days unend. The line, I rephase, there are good people on both side.
The President goofed big time on that one and he needs to do better. If the BIAFRAS are irresponsible then same goes to the AREWA YOUTHS. He should condemn them in totality and stop rubbing their egos. What legitimate concerns that are not good for both?
Mr. Kogi State Governor who declared public holiday for the Presidential return has displayed an equal act of irresponsibility as I am trying to avoid the use of the word stupidity. What is it that he is celebrating? Some people are just outrightly annoying. Unfortunately, the lazy ones in Kogi are celebrating another lazy day. Just a piece of my mind.

The #ResumeorResign protesters are set to protest outside President Muhammadu Buhari London residence, popularly called the Abuja House, from Friday to Saturday, August 19. The protesters claimed to have received a permit and safety barriers from the UK police to conduct their protest.

The protest will reportedly hold all night long and protesters are advised to dress warm as they sit all night outside the president's residence demanding that he resume office or resign immediately.
