Indeed, this is one of the most transparent recruitment ever done by a federal government agency that I have witnessed.

It gives me great joy when I read the testimonies of many of the invited candidates here on Nairaland saying they had nobody, no connect, no godfather but the Almighty God. This has greatly helped to restore my hope in this country. If it continues like this, and spread to other sectors of the government then nothing can stop our rising as a nation.

For those waiting to go through the backdoor with the influence of their godfathers (or money), know that you are contributing to the corruption we constantly pray against in the country. Everyday we blame our political leaders for our woes and failures as a country but with every little opportunity that comes our way we tend to do same if not worse than them.
Well, I wish you succeed through your godfather but may it never be at the expense of someone who got it legitimately.

Personally, I applied for this opening but was never invited for the exams. At first I was saddened by that. But seeing the number of applicants who got in legitimately, I know I still have hope. I may be selected in the next recruitment, or in any other government parastatal, as long as due process is followed.

In the UK and some other advanced nation, home schooling is acceptable. All you need to enter secondary school is just pass standardized entrance exam.

A robust database where birth and death is registered and where records cannot be altered is the right way to prevent age falsification. It is totally laughable to think FSLC is the document to prove age.

Basic primary school education is under the control of state government in Nigeria.

In some state the FSLC is issued to Basic/Primary 6 pupils without any standardized exam.

More of a glorified security guard? I don't think this is a very nice thing to say. These are people who their top officers rub shoulders with generals during security meetings and all. Yeah, the military earns better, but trust me, you'll barely see a security meeting without these people you call glorified security guards.
No doubt the NIS is one among the most juiciest paramilitary jobs out there, and is more to be envied than the NSCDC, but trust me, they are not just glorified security guards as you think. Let's be guided with things we say please.

The extra cash they claim NIS personnel make is totally illegal. At international airport what actually happens there is that NIS personnel embarrassingly beg international travellers for cash. When they discover you are first time traveller, they attempt to intimidate and extort money. If you stand your ground you will not give them shishi. Na illegal money dem de make.

At border crossing it is totally extortion and bribery.

At passport office, if you pay for your passport straight online and only enter for biometrics where dem wan see money chop? I know the corruption is huge, they deliberately create situation to collect cash from people.

At the end, how many personnel will be posted to border, airport and passport office? Just a small percentage out of the thousands recruited. Most of the personnel don't have access to these illegal cash. When they all claim NIS personnel make extra money, I go just de look them. So shameless extortion is now cool?

Great! What a nice write-up, but come to think of it, how much is this anticipated NIS pay sef that one would be comfortable with, especially in country where the currency is on constant devaluation. We are talking about maximum 150k as salary for B.sc.

How much is NIS salary... As ASI you will earn less than 150k naira per month in the next 5 years of your career. As an engineer in the USA or UK in the next 5 years you will live far more comfortable than a Deputy Controller of Immigration. Check the salary of a deputy comptroller again and check how long it will take you to reach that rank. The corruption in the system will break your spirit. Let nobody deceive you my brother.

It is PTDF sponsorship. Even if you refused to return to Nigeria, you have no issues, you will be fine. You are an engineer. There are great opportunities for engineers over there.

If not for our useless country, why would an engineer be struggling for immigration job? You no know how much dem de pay engineers for core engineering firms?

With B.eng, you must have COREN, b4 u will be considered for 2 star. You may not know if he had a COREN.

I don't know about paramilitary but in the civil service, bachelor of engineering degree begin career on level 09. My coursemate who got a job in a govt agency in 2018 was given level 09. He has bachelor degree in engineering. As at the time he got the job he was NOT registered with COREN
