mymz: Finally!! someone with THE God-given kind of sense. This so-called kings and chiefs are starting to constitute nuisance to the public. This idea that the king/ high chief of a region, town or village has more power and authority than an elected Governor is laughable and any idiot that thinks they do is a fool. |
snika: Ok, tell that to Queen of England, or the president of US(who is the traditional ruler of US, based on their culture). You clearly dont't have a brain so I am not even going to debate you. It will just be a complete waste of time 1)Presidents here in American dont RULE,they serve the people. But, hey I won't be surprised if that's too hard for you to understand. 2) First Amendment guarantees the freedom of speech (dont have time to explain to your ignorant/slave %%%). READ UP IDIOT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution 3) The constitution superceeds any &&& tradition. Permits to express your opinion in public is issued by the police "just" to guarantee the safety of lifes and properties during your protect( that's all) The days of licking the kings %%% are long and gone. i wouldn't be surprised if your stupid, slave and idiotic self don't understand. Prove me wrong |
fyneguy: Calm down, will ya?!He doesn't need the permission of any dam OBI to campaign. This is not 1732. It's 2013. All he needed was a permit from the police.....Sick and tired of all these traditional rulers. They are the real problems of nigeria.. |
Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu said, “In sane places when things happen people take responsibility and resign. Others commit suicide for the failure of their subordinates.” ![]() |
How is teaching your children your native language bad/evil? |
bellong: Well, I think parents that do that are only putting their children at a big disadvantage. English is only one of the languages in the world but the present world language. Restricting a child to a language will not develop his language skills, we never can tell when that native language will be a life saver for the child in the future.Multi-Lingual employees actually earn more here in the US |
pickabeau1: I respect the other cultures for how they espouse diversity and still are true to their rootsIN THE CITIES IN NIGERIA? wow! |
bad meat: @op this is true!I have been trying to organise a foundation to help keep Languages in Rivers State from going extinct! There are actually some organizations that are into language preservation. Send me a PM and 'll give you details. |

AlbinoNinja: Theres a plus to teaching children your native language: Bi lingual children tend to be smarter than othersOnly if some of our dear naija parent's in diaspora knew... ![]() |
Just know that someone that is suicidal might take you up on your stupid, irrational suggestions and actually committe suicide. Words are powerful ladies and gentlemen. Lets be sensitive and reasonable. |
nikkygal: www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-826801.0.htmlsome people just dont understand the power of words. What if the person is actually suicidal. I agree with you. That trend is disturbing |
One thing I have noticed about foreigners who migrated to the united states from LATIN/south america,FRANCE and some asian countries like china, japan and india is that they try as much as possible to instill their native culture and traditional beliefs in their kids. Most of their kids are bi-lingual. Back in undergrad school days, most of my chinese and indian friends that were born here spoke their native tongue without fear or shame. Conversely, the average nigerian parent unfortunately believes that it is not in the best interest of the child to learn their native tongue. As a matter of fact naming the "pickin" a naija name is bad for his future..OYA NA THIS BOY VICTOR O JARE... Scene 1 (Real Story) A well educated professor of African Literature is "allowed" by the pastor of a popular nigerian church in the disapora to speak to the members. She grabs the microphone and starts by telling the parents about a summer program (like many others) that is designed for children of africans born in the diaspora to help teach them their native language( Reading and Writing).. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH...... nobody signs up their kids. The woman leaves her contact and leaves and as soon as the woman leaves, the typical naija church gossip starts "Who does she think she is"? "My son can't learn igbo o" "My children are AMERICANISED NOW" "We are in america now o " blah blah blah blah.. and on and on.......it was depressing! |
My good friend left naija for the USA in JJS2. He was my very best friend. 13 Years later I rolled into the US and he was the first person i was looking forward to meeting again. At the time he left naija there was nothing like email or yahoo messanger, not even cell phone in nigeria at the time. After searching the internet for 2 years I finally got in touch with his sister who told me he just died 3 days prior to me calling. Mistake in Identity. He was killed my gang members. It's been 7 years and it still hurts. |
Move on. |
No it is not. The bible said it, my grandpa said it, most sane people know it |
Guy, d'you know how annoying it is for us readers to read a half completed story? Abeg finish the tale! So what happened next? Did you organise Area boys to grab the phone from the thief? Was the thief beaten up, poured petrol upon and set alight? (Jungle Justice) Or did your uncle go to court and bribed a few hands along the way to get 'justice'? Abeg come back here and finish up, jare!
Okay the concluding episode ..Family meeting - As per yoruba tradition, Awon wolebi was involved( his older uncles). He still refused. My uncle told me that his family members pleaded with him to "put everything in the hands of God" and let it go. No Area boys were paid. I just told my uncle to forget about the phone. I really don't care about those that attacked me on here. I wonder how they will feel if the phone was meant for them ( ...will be raising hell). The dude in questions appears to be a thug and I wouldn't want a situation in which someone is stabbed because of a mobile phone. I will be visiting nigeria in december...hell no ( dont even think about asking that question) |

bellong: What a myopic and foolish conclusion from you. What has the action of your friend's older brother got to do with the hopelessness of the country. Like beget like, if your friend's older brother could do what you described, it only shows the type of people you attract and in same analysis the type of person you are.take am easy o |
Okay this is a story I just had to share with Nairalanders. I sent one of my uncle's a brand new Q10 BLACKBERRY through a friend of mine that visited Nigeria in the summer. He only spent 2 days in Lagos, so he left the phone for his older brother to "hold" pending "pick-up" by my uncle. I called my uncle 2 weeks ago and he told me "something" am still yet to "digest" or even "decipher". The so-called "older brother" told my uncle that he activated the phone and is now using it and that he feels like my uncle is too old to use the phone( I am sure you re-read that last sentence again). I called my friend and told him what my uncle told me. Like me, he couldn't believe it. I called this older brother and he told me the same thing, only this time, offering to buy my uncle a Samsung phone."At least the old man can understand how to take use dat one, I even use 10k ACTIVATE this phone self ".....he said. |

Only in Nigeria will a party ask an acting governor to take orders from a sick governor. Does the PDP even know what the role and functions of an acting governor are? |

? Really? How much was he paid?
