Wyclef Jean has accepted an appointment at Rhode Island's Brown University as a visiting fellow in its Department of Africana Studies.
The former member of The Fugees will work at the Ivy League school during the 2010-2011 academic year and will facilitate activities related to its Haiti Initiative; including lectures, faculty conversations and classes.
The 40-year-old rapper/singer made his first visit to Brown's campus on Monday and attended two inaugural lecturers.

The multi-talented rapper, producer and activist eLDee gets his voice heard on CNN.
eLDee has been in the news lately for his return to shooting videos, his UK tour as well as for his work on the "Rep 4 Nigeria" song for MTV Base Nigeria.

He was recently featured on CNN i-List - a program that focuses on different topics about a country for a whole week. The i-List edition which has chosen Nigeria as its talking point this independence week, beamed its spotlight on Nigerians on Social Media. In the course of the feature, notice was taken of eLDee's continued campaign to use all avenues available to him to make his voice relevant in the struggle for positive change in Nigeria.
Earlier this year, he released his video One Day, also mentioned in the CNN feature story. The video, like I go Yarn[2004], rails at the system and asks questions about the quality of our leadership and accountability on the part of our rulers while still preaching its message of hope to the hopeless. With his music he advocates accountability and alerts the populace to the need to exercise their rights. It is a part of the reason why he has lent himself to such causes as "Enough-is-Enough” as well as the #LightupNigeria movement, of which he is a founding member.

Mario -- the platinum-selling R&B singer -- was arrested in Baltimore this morning for
allegedly assaulting his own mother in an apartment they share

According to police, Mario's mother Shawntia Hardaway -- a former heroin addict -- told cops the former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant had been "throwing and damaging property" , and pushed her around with his hands and forearms.
Cops say they found several broken items inside the apartment -- including a broken china cabinet, a busted mirror and a hole in the closet door

For the next 21 days, millions of television viewers across Nigeria and Africa will be treated to exciting moments of adventure, fun and suspense as the seventh edition of the hit television reality show, Gulder Ultimate Search, GUS, hits the screen from Saturday.

Already, 12 young, strong and able-bodied Nigerians are in the Omo Forest Reserve in Area J4, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State where they will slug it out for the honour of becoming an ‘Ultimate Hero’.
The contestants–an equal mix of six young men and ladies–emerged successful from tens of thousands of youth that participated in gruelling auditions held across the country.
There are additional two contenders-a male and female-which was a departure from the usual 10 contestants in the previous series of the show.

Nigerian Idol will be starting auditions on the 8th of October at Universal Hotel in Enugu. The auditions will last in the state till the 11th of October. After the auditions in Enugu, the next stop will be the capital city of Abuja and from the 15th to the 18th auditions will be held at Nicon Luxury Hotel.


From October 22 to the 24 it would be the turn of Calabar at the Cultural Centre. Lagos would be the last stop; from the 29th of October to the 31st auditions will hold at the Nigerian Idol studios in Lagos.
Last week Nigerian Idol was formally launched at a press conference in which the show’s host- Yemisi Fajimolu was introduced to the public. The dynamic, young and fresh OAP who is popularly known as Misi works at a Lagos based radio station. At the conference, the judges were also unveiled to members of the public who had been yearning to know the identity of the judges for the hugely anticipated show

Twenty young beautiful girls from different State where paraded at this year Miss Nigeria Competition. Erica Okuneye,24yrs, 1st runner-up, Miss Lagos and Obori Edenkwo, 25yrs, 2nd runner-up, Miss Cross- River.


The Competition did not show case swimwear segment. The outstanding young ladies where said to be judged on poise, intelligence, cultural values as well as beauty.
