adecz:

Our biggest problem, right up to the friendlies has been the inability to score goals.
Goals are all that matters in soccer.
During the Yekini & Amokachi days, You score Nigeria 1, they'll revenge with 2. You score us 3, we score 4.
Almost any team member then, was capable of scoring.
Right now, Nigeria has no pattern; We are not playing attacking, defensive or holding pattern, na just kick & follow..
Me, I wan auction my original NIKE® Jersey. .. This is so so true. We used to be result-oriented. It doesn't really matter how well anyone can dribble or their number of possession, even though the Yekinis were pros at that, but balls just need to be put into the net. Now we hear ourselves saying --ehnnn our boys tried...it's just that...blah blah... We do not care. We neeeeed goalsss!!! Funnily now, I can't tell the difference in functions between the team players...When strikers are playing defense, midfielders are keeping the post and keeper can come out as far as to try to score a goal. |

LordsApostle: What's that suppose to mean? Madam stop that trash, do I look like I earn my living from NL? U are just calling my knowledge to the topic being on the front page, how does that affect what I eat next or even what I earn? Do u pay me for my topic being on front page, how does that affect me. Please don't bring inconsequentialities into sound reasoning... Stop being assuming and condescending it's stupid.. I believe u think being a mod on this virtual forum and moving topics to FP is a huge achievement , young girl Come down from your high horse and be reasonable...
Nonsense. And you're the self-acclaimed big boy on NL, whose big-boy-head is not indicative of a big brain, as your version of sound reasoning is to make disparaging comments; equating my asking someone to trust me, to mean I should be his wife and calling me a young girl, when I'm pretty sure I'm older than your elder brother. Clap for yourself, you, who is not being assuming and yet assumed I literally pushed your thread to the home page...SMH. Hey, be whatever kind of achiever you say you are. They are not my hallucinations, so I really can't be bothered, but don't expect every foolish remark you make to meet with e-hugs and kisses, especially when you really have no idea of the kind of person you are attempting to shade. And that is all there is to the session, I struggled to open for you, big boy. Good day! |

.There can only be one baseline for Standard English..and that is the variety of English as spoken by the English people and used as the "NATIONAL" norm and as the language for public and formal usage. Plus its received pronunciation accent. Every other variant construction is officially non-standard. Only the society's educated layer associates with standard English anyway and it is upheld via educational systems, until forever. So if anybody chooses to entertain other variants for formal usage, just so they can patronize the minority "other sons of the English soil", they do so at their personal discretion. As regards American English, Australian English and what not, they have no developmental influence on the Standard English, historically. So technically, there is no such thing as American English and Scottish English and blah...As in seriously, no serious credence should even be given them as these countries, do not even speak English originally, so how can they now have Standard versions of English for crying out loud? |

aribisala0: You are not communicating , I cannot read your mind If you can't understand what I quoted from you, then I'm afraid, that's on you. You said yourself that elisions don't silent the H in words where they arent supposed to be silent...So why mess with a rule which is gospel in writing and in relatively formal speaking? |
Education › Re: The Use Of "An" Before H Sounding Words, Is It Correct? by Rocktation(f): 9:15am On Jun 13, 2018 |
aribisala0: It could be
It depends on the speaker and it is a phenomenon called ELISION
this is present in many laguages In Britain Elision may happen as a result of Social/Education class or Regional accent
There are many dialects of English in Britain and the words that they elide is what make them unique. The legitimacy of these variants cannot be impeached
One of the commonest is the word HERE
It is quite common to hear "Come over 'ere"
or 'ello" instead of Hello
This is not to say that the H is silent rather it is ELIDED.
So
Where we say an Hotel the H is ussually ELIDED
Elision could be verbal or written. Then, that is ALL that should matter, wouldn't you agree? |

British: a hotel
American: an hotel In both countries and all countries in this life and beyond, it is a hotel. Trust me. |

Auladimeji1: Please can you list their learning forums I used to know one ESL forum, other wisely called The English club...and another englishforums.com. I really don't take note of their names though, but there are so many you will constantly stumble upon, if you are like I used to be. I was constantly having doubts and sought explanations on google. I would type stuff like- "compared with or compared to?", or something like - "is behind his back" a correct grammar? The arguments I find, sometimes against scholars of English that will start by giving you their pedigrees, lol, are usually very heated and entertaining, with the winners of my heart, satisfactorily explaining their stands. |

Education › Re: The Use Of "An" Before H Sounding Words, Is It Correct? by Rocktation(f): 6:30am On Jun 13, 2018 |
femi4: Its the combination of the Sounds and vowels . The sound of "H" in Hotel is "O" hence its "an Hotel" cos hotel is pronounced as Otel
So, where the H is silent, the article becomes "an" e.g an Hour Nah, it is not. |

Rex123: Do you have comprehension problems? I said H tends to be silent! Not silent! What I said in simple English was that you use a for H! Guy, you honestly have a problem. What is so simple in the English nau, that you still cannot use to communicate properly? It is silent, yet it is not silent...then we should use A for Honour too, abi what are you even saying? Abeg, stop trying to spoil my medulla jare. It's English that I speak, not Gibberish. |
