sugabelly: Even in Spain they speak TWO different brands of Spanish (I speak Spanish too so I know). Spaniards speak Castillian Spanish and Catalan Spanish and they acknowledge the difference. There is NO standard Spanish. Why should we destroy our language and its beauty in the name of Centralization? No there are no two different brands of Spanish. We have only one and it's called Castellano. Catalan is a dialect spoken by the people in the Catalan region of Spain and it shares commonalities with Valencian and Balearic dialects. Castellano or Castillian is the official Language in Spain spoken by all, Catalan is regional, Basque is regional, Mallorquin(Balearics) is regional and The Andalucian dialect. All the individual dialects are encouraged within their respective regions but not as national language. If not they will go extinct. sugabelly: y romeo, si vosotros no la conoceis, no usar 'tu'. 'Tu' es para los familiares, los amorosos, y para ninos que tienen menos anos que vosotros. Es por que uso 'vosotros' pues no os conozco. Pero que dices? Estoy confuso hija!! explicate bien que me estas liando la cabeza con lo que acabas de escribir |

sugabelly: Yay let's begin.
NOTE: I can't do the letters with the Dots needed for the alternate sounds so I am going to substitute the dot with an apostrophe. So, if I want to write the word Onu (meaning mouth and obviously pronounced with O as in Or) then I will write it as O'nu. Understand?
Yay, I'm having fun.
Preliminary Lesson
The Igbo Alphabet
A (Ah) B (bee) Ch (Chee) D (Dee) E (Ay) F (Fee) G (Gee) GB (Gbee) GH (Ghee) GW (Gwee)
H (Hech) I (ih) I' (eee) J (Jay or Jeh) K (keh) KP (Kpee) KW (Kwee) L (lee) M (Mee) N (Nee)
N' (Nyih) NW (Nwee) Ny (Nyee) O (Oh) O' (O as in Hot) P (Pee) R (Ri) S (see) SH (She) T (Tee)
U (OOH) U' (EWE) V (Vee) W (Wee) Y (Yi) Z (Zed)
Lesson 1
In Igbo, the verb is NEVER conjugated, only the pronouns are conjugated.
Subject Pronouns (Present Tense)
I - N' (this is an N with a dot underneath. When it stands alone to mean the personal pronoun I, it is pronounced as nnnnn)
You - I (pronounced ee)
She/He/It - O' (this is an O with a dot underneath, pronounced as O as in Hot)
We - Anyi
You (plural) - Unu (pronounced OOH-NOO)
They - Fa
Lesson Two - Verbs
In Igbo, the infinitive is formed by adding "i" to the beginning of the verb.
For example
I + Bia (come) = Ibia (to come) Pronounced (ee-byah)
I + Bido (begin or to start) = Ibido (to begin or to start) Pronounced (ee-bee-doh)
I + Je (go) = Ije (to go. note that "Ije" also means a journey, walk, or someone's manner of walking when used as a noun, but here it is used as a verb to form the infinitive)
The Past Tense.
Most Igbo verbs automatically fall into the past tense when combined with pronouns, so for example, you might be expecting the following phrase
N' je Anambra to mean I am going to Anambra, but it actually means "I WENT to Anambra"
Formation of the Present/Continuous Tense
In order to form a sentence in the present tense in Igbo you must insert the word "NA" before the verb.
e.g.
N' je Anambra = I went to Anambra
N' na je Anambra = I AM GOING to Anambra.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ANY LETTERS WITH APOSTROPHES ARE BEING USED TO REPRESENT THE IGBO LETTERS WITH DOTS UNDERNEATH.
IF YOU LIKE MY LESSONS I'LL CONTINUE. LET ME KNOW. The alphabets are wrongly pronounced in your post. There is nothing like "N'je Anambra" in central Igbo!! Or would you like to hear my Ngwo way of speaking Igbo? We can not tell people that our dialects are the best way to say things in Igbo language. Anam eje anambra = I am going to Anambra Ejere m Anambra = I went to Anambra Inwere ike iji asusu igbo were dee edemede ebea anyi noo? Obi añuri ga eju m aru ma iwere igbo gwa m okwu. |
