And my point is that if privatization couldn't work on a mere 35kms lekki Epe road despite being heavily tolled for years and even having yearly budgetary provisions of another 35 billion naira yet under Fashola less that 25 percent of that road was completed and very shabily at that . ..Bro til we get a visionary and very committed leadership it will always be stories that touch..Right now are you aware we pay 5.5 naira on every litre of fuel purchased for road maintenance? I don't know why simple things like this are soooo difficult for our politicians. For God's sake under this same Fashola, a private company built a world class road and put toll gates on it to recoup their funds. Why is it so difficult to do same at Federal level.

1. Concession all commercially viable federal roads to private companies for rehabilitation and construction of new ones.

2. Let them roads be maintained and funded by toll fees.

3. Make provision for private citizens to be able to buy 'limited shares' in these companies.

4. Let ministry of works perform only oversight duties on these roads to make sure they are always in top shape.

5. Let the ministry concentrate funds on improving our state and local roads:
A. $20b is too little to fund adequate Infrastructure for 200 million people when a country like Qatar with 2.5 m population runs a $55b budget, or South Africa 55m population with $90b budget.

B. The local and state governments fly below the radar 'chopping' monies meant for these projects.

C. We spend more time on these inner roads damaging our cars and wasting time.

D. Them federal highways deathtraps can now become highways with lower avoidable incidents -- of course you get what you pay for.

Personally, I won't want to pay for a Range Rover only to be given a Toyota Yaris.

And you beleive that Fashola that couldn't complete 35 kms of Lekki Epe express road in 8 years despite tolling the road and having budgetary provisions for it will be able to do it ..keep fooling yaself

Obasanjo did the scrapping then, and introduced a N1.5 levy on every liter of petrol bought as substitute.

Citing the amount toll gates were generating was too small compared to the amount meant for the maintenance of roads and the money not reaching the government.
He also said these toll gates have outlived their purpose and also causing accident and delay.

The difference no worries is that levy is now 5.5 naira on litre and is supposedly remitted to the Ministry of works yet they have never accounted for that money and now the want to rebuild toll gates which is a just a very bad idea
