Opinedecandid:
Ofcourse Wike is still in charge.
No controversy.
It is high time Niger Deltans rise up to resist that Almajiri and their Chief-slave (wuruba) party.

We are all witnesses to how sectional they are in appointments, even their Chief Servants complain bitterly about it, too.

Their entire body language is a pointer to their greed, selfishness and dictatorship.

We are witnesses to the deceits, the lies, the suppression, victimisation, all of that.

Some of their boot lickers even come here to say that Wike will be arrested by EFCC so he won't take part in the rerun election.

I dare to ask, the same way Goodluck Jonathan ensured that Buhari was arrested or tried for 'certificatelessness'?

Had Buhari been arrested in the build up to the 2015 Presidential election, the whole world would have risen to condemn it!

The same way the Almajiris would have reacted had that been done, is the same way we will react should they dare lay their hands on Wike.
Infact, Rivers will be too hot for them to govern;
Niger Delta will be too hot for further oil exploration.

Even international community would rise to tell them NO.

Why do they really want to have a one party state?
Are they in desperate search for an avenue to nosedive completely into totalitarianism?

They can't continue to kill the hen that lays the golden egg and walk away freely.

Let them seize to plough and plunder our God-given resources to develop their land while we wriggle in want and our lands, yes our earth that produces the black oil is left depleted, undeveloped, abandoned and in chaos.

PoliticsDeji Of Akure Gives Conditions For Truce With Eze Ndigbo... by Rooy57(op): 3:53pm On Oct 23, 2015
The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, yesterday, gave conditions for truce with the Eze Ndigbo of Akure, Gregory Iloehike.

One of the conditions was that the Igbo leader is forbidden from wearing any form of crown henceforth.

Oba Aladelusi gave the conditions during a meeting Governor Olusegun Mimiko had with him and the Akure Council of Chiefs  in Akure on the lingering crisis between the monarch and the Eze Ndigbo.

The governor had earlier met with the Igbo leaders led by Iloehike at his office.

Ileohike was said to have denied disrespecting the Oba and pleaded with the governor to help resolve the crisis.

Other conditions given by the Oba are that the Eze Ndigbo must apologize for his unruly behaviour in at least three national dailies and on air.

“That the Igbo leader must write a letter of apology to  Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi and the Deji-in-Council.

“That the title ‘Eze Ndigbo’ must be reviewed and replaced with a non-controversial honorary title and that the Igbo Leader must comply with all the earlier directives of the palace.”

EducationRe: A Dozen Words That Even The Most Educated Nigerians Use Or Interpret Wrongly by Rooy57(m): 4:44pm On Sep 01, 2015
princechrming:
I'm no grammar purist but over the years, my avidity for words and lexical profundity had ignited a proclivity for grammar correctness in me. These words/idioms which I will be talking about have been erroneously used even on national media platforms and among the average educated Nigerian who uses/interprets such words wrongly countless times.

Some of these lexical misinterpretation are egregious grammatical blunders, some are a case of solecism and I could call some a case of neologism. But why such neologism can't be accepted is because "Nigerian English" has yet to be upgraded to ranks of other recognised versions and dialects of English like American, British, Australian or New Zealand English.

I know English language isn't out mother tongue but for the fact that its the most recognised language in the world and also our lingua franca we ought to speak and interpret it correctly. I remember back then as a fresh graduate done with my compulsory one year national service (NYSC), I went for an interview and unconsciously educated my interviewers about a word. During the interview I kept on pronouncing the word "debt" in its correct pronunciation of /dɛt/ and the "b" being totally silent which sounds like how we Nigerians erroneously pronounce the word "death" directly as "det" rather than /dɛθ/, the Human Resources Manager - Dr. Sylvester stopped me at some point to express his confusion at me and inquired why I was using the word "death" in my speech. I then said- "Oh, sorry sir, I meant D-E-B-T (spelling it out verbally) but the "b" is totally silent in its correct pronunciation, we Nigerians pronounce it wrongly most times voicing out the "b" in that word".
He felt quite embarrassed and he asked the next interviewer to continue with me and I saw him put his face down looking into his laptop, most definitely trying to confirm my claim by referring to his Encarta Dictionary on his laptop. Well, I still got the job and Dr. Sylvester told me later on that apart from other factors, he approved me for the job because of my ability to educate him on a word which he was totally oblivious to despite his decades of erudition.

In order not to bore you guys with more prolegomenon, I'd dive straight into the matter at hand, find below 12 of these words/idioms we use or interpret wrongly.

1. Yesteryears - This word has no plural form. Its always used as "yesteryear" be it in singular or plural form. I'm sure this error came about because of the word "nowadays" which is antithetical to "yesteryear". I have an uncle who back then would always castigate us by saying- "All these children of nowadays, if you all were to use our school curriculum of 'yesteryears' you all would fail". He is so lucky I didn't know what I know now back then, I would have corrected him immediately! cheesy
A correct example of its use is; "Songs of 'yesteryear' are better lyrically than songs of nowadays"

2. Chanced - Countless times, I hear things like- "I won't be chanced to see you later on this evening", and the interlocutor meant he/she will not be free to see me in the evening, meaning he would be busy or occupied. That's wrong grammar! The word "chance" or chanced" as a verb has two meanings, namely;
1- "to risk", for example- "I'll chance the worst happening",
2- "to happen by chance", for example- "I chanced to catch sight of her as she passed.
So desist from using "chanced" to refer to being "not busy" or "free". Instead you can say "I don't have free time in the evening for us to meet" or "I can't see you in the evening because I don't have time to spare" or simply say "I'll be busy in the evening, so we can't meet"

3. Lousy - "Jane is such a lousy girl, she talks too much like a running tap!" Have you ever heard a derogatory statement like that before? I'm sure you have. The word "lousy" here is mostly misinterpreted by Nigerians to mean "talkative and noisy" or "loud and arrogant in talking". We tend to relate the word "lousy" to "loud".

Lousy simple means "unpleasant, "inferior or bad" or "provided with an excess amount (of)".
Examples of correct use include: "That's a lousy thing to do", "This is a lousy film, its production is too poor", "He's lousy with money."

4. "Sendforth" instead of "Sendoff" - I'm sure you have seen a lot of invitations for "sendforth" parties in the past. Well, there is no word as "sendforth" in the dictionary. The correct word is "sendoff" which is "a demonstration of good wishes to a person about to set off on a journey, career, etc"

5. Severally Nigerians misinterpret and wrongly use this word to mean "several times" or "a lot of times". You would hear someone say- "Rita has warned her severally but she won't listen". That's very wrong!
The word "severally" is an adverb which means "separately", " individually" or "distinctly".
A correct use can be- "Please after you wash the clothes, spread them severally on the rope", which implies you want the clothes to be dried individually on the rope.

6. Birds of the same feathers flock together - This is a very popular idiomatic blunder used by Nigerians. The correct idiom is "Birds of A FEATHER flock together" and not "Birds of THE SAME FEATHERS flock together"

7. Opportune(d) - You'd hair someone say something like "I wasn't opportuned to be born with a silver spoon" to refer to the fact that he didn't "have the opportunity" or "privilege" to be born into wealth. That's utterly erroneous! Because, "opportune" means "occurring at a time that is suitable or well-timed".
A correct example of its use: "she has been waiting for the opportune moment to tell him she wants a break up." Here is another correct example: "I'm waiting for the opportune moment to propose to my darling Rita"

8. Impeach - In Nigeria, you'd hear statements like this- "The president must be impeached whether he likes it or not!". And what they mean is that the president should be removed from office.
Politically, "impeach" means "to charge a public official with an offence committed in office" It doesn't ultimately mean removing the official from office, just as being charge to court for an alleged offence doesn't guarantee the defendant would be jailed as a result.
For example, if an average Nigerian hears the statement- "President Bill Clinton of the USA was impeached in 1998", he/she would interpret it that Bill Clinton was removed from office. But that's not the case, Bill Clinton was impeached but wasn't removed from office, he served his full presidential term, impeachment here meant he was charged to court for an alleged offence of purgery (which was related to alleged sexual relations with a white house staff) but he was later acquitted and proven innocent, and he went on to complete his full presidential tenure.
So, the word "impeach" doesn't ultimately mean to remove a politician from office.

9. "Stay clear" instead of "Steer clear" - This idiomatic plunder doesn't need much explanation. Its an error of using "stay" instead of "steer", maybe because both words are closely related in pronunciation. Please mind this error in your oral and written English.
So next time you wanna sternly warn that boss at work flirting with your office girlfriend, tell him- "Hey Mr. Managing Director, you better 'steer' clear of Rita my girlfriend or else...". (Please do it at your own risk o! Your sack letter might just be his reply to you) cheesy

10. Sentiment - During arguments, its common to hear things like- "Don't bring in sentiments into this, let's be truthful and factual" or "Can we just be objective in this country and cast sentiments aside?"
The average Nigeria interprets the word "sentiment" to mean "being bias", exhibiting prejudice or the opposite of objectivity. Quite wrong!
Below are meanings of the word sentiment:
1- "an opinion or thought"
2- "prone to tender, delicate or romantic emotion"
3- "a feeling, emotion or awareness"
4- "fake or excessive show of emotion"
Below are examples of correct use of the word "sentiment":
- "My sentiment(my opinion) concerning this issue is that we wait to see what happens first before we take any action.
- "She has too much sentiment to be successful in this industry, it will not favour her. (Meaning she is too soft or fragile emotionally to cope in such an industry)
- "A sentiment of pity" (Meaning a feeling or emotion of pity)
- "She went sentimental and started crying immediately I told her I was breaking up with her when I caught her cheating"

That said, let's stop using the word "sentiment" to represent "bias" or "prejudice", instead, you can say- "Please put aside all prejudice or bias so we can analyse this issue thoroughly" or just say- "Do away with your subjective views and try to be objective for once"

10. Instalmentally - We Nigerians invented this word from the word "instalment" to mean something divided for payment at specified intervals over a fixed period. But there is no adverb like this in the dictionary. Instead of saying "I will pay you instalmentally" rather say "I will pay you in instalments"

11. Go-slow - Nigerian use this word to refer to a traffic jam, but the word "Go-slow" or "Slowdown" for US English refers to "an occasion when employees work more slowly and with less effort than usual to try to make an employer to agree to pay them higher wages or give them better working conditions". So next time say "I'm in a traffic jam" rather than say "I'm in a go-slow"

12. Barb - I'm sure when an average Nigerian man wants to go cut his hair, he would say- "I want to barb my hair" right?
The word "barb" is a multifarious word but NONE of its meanings has anything to do with the act of cutting/trimming hair.
The word "barber" is a noun used to refer to someone whose business is cutting men's hair and shaving or trimming beads, but also, the word "barber" is a verb as well which means "to cut the hair of" or "to shave or trim the beard of".
For example, you can say- "Can you barber me now?" (Meaning: "can you cut/trim my hair now?"wink Another example is- "I want to barber my hair". Sounds funny right? Yes it does but its correct grammar.

Note - This article is in no way trying to ridicule or pillory Nigerians as a result our lexical inadequacies but to help further enlighten one another's word base and understanding.

Happy first of September Nigeria! I wish us all a fruitful and safe last quarter of the year!

it kind of surrogacy but not exactly. moreso, if she request for DNA, her husband might actually think she cheated on him. and lastly, I don't think there is law backing such procedure up in Nigeria. so even if the DNA result comes out to be 100% matching that of the donor, she still might not be granted the custody of the child.

STORY EXCLUSIVE TO STELLA DIMOKO KORKUS BLOG.

Lets call her Lady X....

She called me this Morning and told me a chilling recount of how Mr Akinfolarin Baruwa the lecturer who is presently being held for allegedly raping an 18year old girl also tried same with her in his office.

She recounted how she reported him to the school authorities and nothing was done...Please read her story with proof attached.
If you are a pen pushed with a Daily News and wish to interview her, please call me and i will give you her contact...
She wishes to remain anonymous for now but she is already making moves to re-open the case she filed last year.

MY STORY:-As Told By Lady X

This happened early 2014.
I had finished my project with my supervisor a pleasant middle aged woman but because she retired before I could get time off work to have her sign off my score sheet I had been re-assigned to Mr Akinfolarin Baruwa as my new project supervisor.
I remembered immediately I got off my first call from him my roommate let’s call her K told me “omg! Is that guy your supervisor?hian” it took me a while to get around the meaning of her words.

My first impression about him was he was a no nonsense kinda lecturer. I walked into the office he was at the bus admin complex top floor he seemed to be sharing an office with another lecturer.
It was about 5pm I had a paper that day. He didn’t attend to me till the other man was done, he sent me on silly errands like “make this photocopy”, “go and buy me tom tom” all this continued till about 8pm after waiting for like forever he attended to me, glanced at my work and said it was rubbish and couldn’t believe my former supervisor who happened to be a professor could approve such nonsense I appealed to him that it was exam period I couldn’t possibly work on my project from the scratch and still meet the deadline for submission so I begged him to let me make corrections instead.

He said someone has done the same topic 2/3 years back and he would easily report me to the authorities that I copied which would guarantee I’ve an extra year. He went on and on ,he had me believe the work was so bad assuring me that I couldn’t escape an extra year he even said he would report me for plagiarism because I forgot to site a particular reference. At some point he said I shouldn’t bother with correcting the work that he’s submitting my name to Admin with the batch of students to be carried over next year, I was stoned.

After begging him over and over to make me correct [mostly typographical errors] he finally agreed, my mind was finally at rest and I thanked him, as I made to leave he looked at me and was like ‘is that how to say thank you?’ I then went on both knees thanking him profusely “thank you sir”, “God bless you sir”…. While I was at it he was closing the blinds of the office and he turned off the A/C [the office was very cold] like he was going to wrap up for the day, he was clearing the sofa that had other peoples projects next thing I know he locks the door…

I was stilling trying to wrap my head around him locking the door when he dragged me; Stella I was a size 12 5”4 then, I am big, this guy is strong ,he just grabbed my boobs and my arms to his manhood rubbing it, next thing He was forcefully trying to remove my clothes, when I tried to force myself off his grip he got more aggressive when I tried to scream he got even more aggressive.

That place is isolated and quiet at night [the office is opposite UNILAG guesthouse by the sea side] I figured screaming was a waste of time and being forceful wasn’t getting anywhere so I lay still begging, then I began to cry “I’m asthmatic I can’t breathe” so I pretended to have an attack then he stopped he started apologising he said it was a mistake and he’s usually not like that and he’s sorry then he started again apologising that he’s hard, okay he doesn’t want sex again that I should just give him a hand job, I said I needed air that he should please open the door [acting like I was about to faint], he then finally opened the door apologising, I rushed out and I was still acting like I was short of breath and fainting with plenty tears in my eyes.

He later called me apologising that he doesn’t know what got over him, it was a mistake etc. I told my best friend, i was in complete shock ,all my years in UNILAG I had never experienced such, i was so stunned that day i lost my bag.

He said we should set him up And I am like “no all I want is to just graduate in peace” because when the matter gets to the authorities now it is another thing he would say.... he can even say we are cultists.

I started using different strategies when visiting his office like going with friends, he always says he is not around [because from up he could see people down] he would later call me to say “you think you are smart abi, you are playing with your graduation”.

On another occasion I had to have him sign my score sheet and i thought to my that this was broad daylight and what could possibly happen?

I was wrong!

A lecture was going on the floor before and the noise from the mega phone clouded the office and this man started again. I was furious and I started to insult him when he was trying to pin me down and as we were dragging my shirt tore and as I was shouting he pushed me.

I stormed out and he was shouting “get out of my office”, ”you can’t graduate i promise you”.

This time I had had it and I was going to the authorities, when I got downstairs I met a friend who happened to be a staff and he saw how mad I was and I narrated all that had happened.

we went to faculty of bus admin and reported to some lecturers they then followed me to his office and met with him.

If you see the way this man painted me black, he denied what happened he almost denied knowing me sef in fact he was mumbling my name like we had just met 5min ago. “He said you know how these students can get” the way he turned the story around I know deep down they knew he was lying but they had to be diplomatic they asked me to do my corrections and forget the matter.

Baruwa then started stalking me.

I remember after an exam while hanging with a friend of mine he called my number saying something like “is that your boyfriend? Is it because of him you are doing shakara for me” I was disgusted, I couldn’t see him but obviously he could see me. This happened on 2 separate occasions.

Stella this man frustrated me because it was a finished project before I was assigned to him, he made me redo and retype, photocopy, bind about 3 times over and every given time he says “you just like punishing yourself” with a snare.

I felt bullied.

it was one thing for a lecturer to ask a student out, it was a different thing entirely to manipulate me into sleeping with you and physically and emotionally harassing me in the process.

When he saw I was adamant he held on to my score sheet without which I couldn’t submit my project or do my defence. He was eager to break me but when I had had enough I reported to the authorities and at that point I was introduced to another girl by my class governor who had complained about this same Baruwa man.

I’ve attached a copy of the handwritten letter I submitted to the authorities and I had to keep it short and brief. The other girls he sexually harassed [my roommate and the other girl] didn’t show up on the day of the report and my class governor didn’t want to have anything to do with the case too so i flew solo.

I guess everybody was afraid of the consequences of reporting a lecturer.

The school promised to look into the matter but I think because of lack of concrete evidence or other witnesses the best they could do was stop him from supervising student’s projects.

I’m not saying he raped or didn’t rape the girl but the way he’s going on about it being consensual and sounding all believable made me remember when I had those lecturers go meet him and he turned the tables around and got them all confused.

What I do know for sure is though an 18 year old is an adult one cannot expect her to show any more than the decent level of tact she did to avoid an abuser as experienced as Baruwa. She shouldn’t be expected to know how to use Witt or tact to manoeuvre her way around an experienced molester who obviously emotionally and psychologically abuses his victims and pounces on them through a little perceived window of opportunity.

The other girls Baruwa abused that were too afraid to speak up are way older and more experienced than her. Akinfolarin Baruwa sexually harasses like a tutored glutton, If she gave even a little level of physical resistance then SHE WAS RAPED.

To the victim this is for you!..I am coming out to tell my story because of you!

Many Thanks Stella for giving me this platform and God bless.

My fiance called me on thursday that she's converting to a moslem.

Actually, she was a muslim, but when the mum was going through financial difficulties while growing up,she and her brother went to stay at her uncle's place, who happens to practice christian, which made her practice the family's religion.

She has gone back this year to her mum's place, because her place of industrial attachment is very close to her mum's place.

I thought she was joking, till she came to my side yesterday, and observed her prayer the muslim way.

I haven't made any comment,or taken any decision on that, but my fear is that

1. This is a lady I want t get married to in few months' time.

2. I practise christianity, and I know the importance of uniformity of religion to married couple, and children.

3. I have been worried since,am I over reacting to it?

4. Has anybody been in this situation before, whereby hubby, and wife practise different religion?

5. Should I be worried,or I insist on her to practice christianity?

I need contribution, and advice on how to handle the difference in religion,if eventually we get married.

Although I've not confirmed it but Ajimobi can say worse than that.

The man has no manners when it comes to talking to people.
