Politics / Is Buhari Nigeria's Greatest 'infrastructure President'? by Rosskivvyy: 12:35am On Dec 31, 2020
Is Buhari Nigeria's Greatest 'Infrastructure President'?

Is it time to finally swallow our pride and admit that President Muhammadu Buhari is Nigeria's Infrastructure President?

I mean, it's getting ridiculous now.

The other day I was just browsing through a paper only to learn that this man was secretly supporting a !.5 billion dollar steel plant that has just been commissioned in Kaduna, that's set to produce over 1 million metric tonnes of steel per annum!

Or was it the news posted on NL two days ago to the effect that Buhari has summoned Innoson, and handed him all the research prototypes of vehicles, including aircraft, designed by the federal research agency NANSENI, and signed an agreement with him to actualize all the prototypes, with full federal govt support!

Or is it the various railway projects across the country, from the impressive Lagos-Abeokuta-Ibadan line, to the Warri-Ajaokuta-Itakpe line, to the Abuja-Kaduna line, to the Abuja Intracity Light Rail Network, to the ongoing 3 billion dollar Lagos - Calabar - Onitsha line.

Is it the 1.5 billion dollar 2nd Niger Bridge nearing completion as we speak?

Or the countless federal roads and bridges under construction or rehabilitation?

Is it the airports?

When you enter some of our airports now you'll be wondering whether you're in Dubai or somewhere in Germany.

Port Harcourt Airport, Abuja, Kano etc, all look awesome, and Lagos Airport Terminal 5 is about to be commissioned, and is reportedly an amazing sight to behold.

Reality remains reality, no two ways about it.

First, they said the planned revival of the moribund Nigerian Railway System was all ruse by Buhari to embezzle public funds.

Later, the story changed to: "it was initiated by gej".

The latest now is: "na him papa money he take build am?".

The question now is: why didn't gej go beyond initiation? Abi na him papa money e for take build am?

Very funny pipu. cheesy

Don't mind them.

I keep telling people that Buhari is the Infrastructure President.

His detractors cannot help but partake of his infrastructural revolution.

Okay...

Frankly, I personally feel embarrassed reading posts of well-learned people of above-average mental pedestal demanding presidency, as though it is some sort of birth right or a cultural entitlement.

Whatever happened to merit.

But again, merit only works in a system devoid of corruption, tribal sentiments and distorted reasoning.A system which understands the nitty gritty of merit—the unlimitedness of competence.

The Igbos demand presidency because of the unfavourable political system and age-long disenfranchisement and alienation...and equity demands they get it.

You cannot speak with two sides of your mouth.

If Nigeria is a democracy, you can't have any ethnic group demanding the presidency, and essentially blackmailing the nation into voting in someone from their group. Vote for an Igbo man or there will be no Nigeria? Are you kidding me? Take that attitude and stick it right where the sun don't shine.

What they CAN fight for is for an Igbo candidate to represent at least one of the two major parties, not to demand the presidency.

My job is to promote tourism in Nigeria and not to kill it, but this is an eyesore. With less than a million naira this building will undergo a facelift just like Freedom park , they left the old colonial ruins and incorporate it with modern structures.

If you people cared half as much about preserving your precolonial African artefacts and monuments, as you do about preserving colonial structures, Nigeria would have been a bigger tourist haven than Egypt.

Rubbish.

You're not even ashamed you're crying to preserve some wretched little colonial school.

Innoson currently generates her own power for their complex I think.

And they're still in profit, and expanding operations. So it can be done.

Emerging firms can also look at renewable energy sources for their power needs.

There are already established aircraft manufacturers in the world and I think we should focus on getting the basics right before having grand ambitions. We don't even have a national carrier and we want to start manufacturing aircrafts.

What Nigerians needs amongst other things are good roads, uninterrupted power supply, education and health system that works, manufacturing industry that is capable of reducing dependency and reliance on foreign goods and produce, security of lives and properties etc.

We don't need a ''national carrier''. Which is basically a federal govt-run airline.

Why are you people so govt dependent? We have Air Peace and other private airlines expanding their operations. What is wrong with them? The USA has no ''national airline''. Just private operators.

Not everything is about government.

Also, this whole ''what Nigeria needs most is good roads, power supply...''' etc etc is redundant.

India doesn't think like that.

They have power cuts and bad roads aplenty.

Hasn't stopped them building space rockets, fighter jets, and warships.

That was a phrase invented ENTIRELY by Nigerians.

All the stats claimed was that Nigeria (largely due to her high population in a developing country) was home to more poor people than any other country on earth.

Finally some appreciation for local engineers and companies but any car manufacturing company needs constant power supply for any of these projects to take off properly Nigeria needs to solve ajaokuta and its power problem, this stops the companies from having to import steel and stops them from having to spend millions of dollars electricity for provision of electricity overall its very good news because I know igbo engineers and scientists are very ingenuitive not saying others aren’t

India hasn't got constant power. Outages there are a big issue as well. Same as Pakistan. But their companies have excelled still. Abeg, these companies can excel, even with power cuts, if they just give it a go.

Is it not in this same Nigeria that Innoson is manufacturing vehicles and lately, spare parts for airforce jets?

And making serious profit?

FG, Innoson Partner On NASENI’s Auto Research Results, Prototypes

President Muhammadu Buhari is not leaving any stone unturned in the renewed efforts to tackle youths’ unemployment and general improvement of the economy through conversion of all research results and innovation’s technology outputs on the shelves of research institutes to job creation opportunities.

In this direction, the Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company (Nigeria’s only indigenous auto-manufacturer) has agreed to take-up all automobile research and development (R & D) results at the National Agency for Science & Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and convert them to automobile products for the markets including getting some of them ready for exports.

Buhari is the chairman, board of NASENI while Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna is the executive vice chairman, board of the research and development agency.

Before now, NASENI had since 2013 designed & produced prototypes of first made-in-Nigeria motorcycle (both cargo & passenger types) and also successfully designed and produced first made-in-Nigeria tricycle (Keke).

The agency in addition had designed and produced prototype of jet engine to manufacture first made-in-Nigeria aircraft, amongst other several successfully designed automobile spare parts.

All these designs and prototypes however were lying on the shelves because Nigerian entrepreneurs were not interested in them to take them further to full manufactured products and commercialisation, thereby creating local jobs and wealth at home.

The jinx was however broken yesterday as the federal government signed the take-off agreements with Innoson Motors to complete these auto designs up to finished products.

Haruna who signed the agreement on behalf of government said: “Today is the happiest day for me as the chief executive of NASENI because the dreams of President Muhammadu Buhari and those of the founding fathers are coming to pass which was to see that NASENI’S designs and technologies are transferable to the private sector & industry”

He went down memory lane saying “the partnership between Innoson Motors and NASENI started since 2013 when NASENI produced and launched it’s first mede-in- Nigeria motorcycle (NASENI M1), but I am happier today that the deal to work together has been sealed”.

The EVC said it was encouraging and patriotic for Innoson Motors to believe in Nigeria and Nigerian engineers and their ingenuities.

He said NASENI’s research outputs are numerous, but most Nigerian entrepreneurs were not interested in working with the agency as they preferred to bring in finished products from overseas thereby indirectly hampering endogenous economic development of the country.

“But today both the federal government through NASENI and Innoson Motors have agreed to join in research and development and to proffer development solutions or work together on whatever is needed in automobiles in Nigeria,” he added.

According to Haruna, with the commencement of the implementation of the agreements, NASENI and Innoson Motors will no doubt move Nigeria forward.

In his response, the CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Ltd, Chief Innocent Chukwuma said NASENI had been doing a lot of things in the areas of research and development, but ”today we have commenced a partnership that will live forever”

He said: “Both NASENI and Innoson Motors are passionate about lifting Nigeria out of economic woods and with God on our side, we shall succeed together”

“NASENI has tried with their designs and automobile prototypes, it is our job as manufacturers to take it up from there.”

Curiously, he added, “NASENI’s moulds and designs are comparable to the ones which my company brings from abroad, so I ask myself, why don’t I patronize the designs by my fellow countrymen thereby building their confidence to do more. That’s why I am here.”

A statement by the agency’s deputy director, information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan said with this collaboration, Nigeria would soon have a success story to tell in the production of automobile spare parts locally even to the extent of exports.

“A lot of things can be produced locally in Nigeria. I am assessing NASENI with the technologies it already has on ground synthesizing them with our own technologies, as the two joined together, we will move Nigeria forward. This joint efforts in research and development will not only benefit Nigeria and Africa but will be for the progress of the entire world. With what NASENI has on ground, working with them is worthwhile,” he added.

Many say there is no such name as 'Obasanjo' in the Yoruba language, lending credence to the allegation that the former two-time president of Nigeria is in fact, an Igbo man.

Could it be that the reason 'Obasanjo' is a non-existent name in Yorubaland is in fact because, it is an IGBO name?

Is the real meaning and spelling of that name Ogbasa-njo (Destroyer of evil), likely an archaic Igbo name associated with brave men, titled men, and warriors?

Air Peace On Track to World Class Status

Greatness is a recycle of excellence. If it can be conceived, it can be achieved. In the spectrum of life, the bridge between one end of an idea and the other end of accomplishment is sheer resilience epitomized in eagle-eyed vision and laced with grace. Air Peace Airline under the leadership of Chief Allen Onyema has increasingly demonstrated these unparalleled attributes amidst strangulating operating environment.

When this airline debuted in Nigeria’s aviation industry few years ago, some Nigerians received the news with mixed feelings—not because of anything associated with Air Peace, but as a result of repeated failures witnessed in the industry in the past. Many of the airlines that graced the limelight with pomp and circumstance, exited even before the euphoria of their launching could die.

The import of serial failings of indigenous airlines over the years meant that some Nigerians developed pessimism towards the possibility of having a reliable airline that would not fail like others. This mental fatigue occasioned by disappointment created by several defunct airlines, was almost metamorphosing into a stronghold until Air Peace Airline entered the fray and stemmed the tide. Chief Onyema, with fear of joining the bandwagon of failed airlines and faith of succeeding—all raging in his mind – was determined to make a difference.

Chief Onyema and group of technocrats in the Air Peace went to the drawing board to ascertain why indigenous airlines failed repeatedly in the past to cross a certain threshold in the aviation industry. They discovered that, some of the defunct airlines did not have medium and long-term goals of increasing their fleet of aircraft, lack of maintenance culture and purposeless leadership, coupled with near-zero ease-of-doing-business in the sector. These are some of the factors that hindered growth of most indigenous airlines in the past.

All-female Flight Crew

After the diagnosis cum prognosis on why Nigerian airlines fail easily vis-a-vis the way forward, Air Peace drafted ambitious fleet expansion as part of its core vision. While aviation regulations stipulated not less than three aircraft as part of the requirements for floating an airline, Air Peace hit the ground running with seven aircraft. Since then, it has expanded its fleet to more than 25 airplanes—with three jumbo-sized jets as part of the package. The hunger to grow in size and might keep getting intensified.

In 2019, the airline ordered 13 E195-E2 jets from Brazilian aerospace conglomerate, Embraer. Three of these expected brand new planes will arrive Nigeria before the end of this December. The remaining ones will be hitting the nation’s airspace anything from first quarter of 2021. E195-E2 aircraft is a narrow-body aeronautic sophistication, with 124-seater arrangements, premium cabin configuration, other exceptional makeup. Air Peace is the first airline in Africa to add this type of brand of aircraft to its fleet.

This great milestone on the part of Air Peace is worthy of celebration by all and sundry because the airline, as the biggest indigenous carrier, is presently our de-facto national carrier. And any of its successes, automatically translate to the country. What this means is that there will be more aircraft—brand new ones for that matter, in the aviation industry to provide quality services to the teeming mobile public. It will increase the capacity of the airline to feed its recently launched international routes—including the ones that will be launched soon.

It will ease traffic, especially at this yuletide period that more Nigerians have opted to fly instead of using the road as a result of insecurity, vehicular accidents and chaotic traffic on the highways. More job opportunities will be created for Nigerians—more pilots and air hostesses will be required. Most importantly, Air Peace has skillfully and relentlessly avoided the landmines of overburdened and non-serviced aircraft. Limited number of aircraft has been the bane of indigenous airlines—because with limited jets, airlines will be reluctant to take some of their aircraft due for maintenance abroad. Once few of their jets pack up, that will be the beginning of the end of the airline.

Air Peace’s ascendancy to greater heights, in the last few years, has ignited optimism in the nation’s airspace. Onyema has stated countlessly that his ultimate goal is to provide world class flight services, create opportunities, and prove that a Nigerian airline can reckon with other aviation leviathans like British Airways; American Airline, Lufthansa, Emirates, KLM, Virgin Atlantic, Ethiopian Airline, etc.

He is taking after aviation tycoons like Richard Brandon of Virgin Atlantic. What Tim Cook of Apple Inc., Elon Musk of Telsa, etc., have done by building these companies into global brands is exactly what Onyema is working hard to make out of Air Peace Airline via its ambitions fleet expansion.

The way the whites achieved it was by re-arranging resources such that anyone who wants to access those resources, ie 'progress in life', must be 'western-educated'. To get that you had to attend their missionary schools. And before you could enter their missionary schools, you had to relinquish your religion, convert to christianity, get baptised, and adopt a christian name.

That is why up till today, you will rarely see a traditional religionist who is not also rural-based, illiterate and hungry.

It's really despicable.
