Sometimes all that glitters is not gold. This statement rang especially true for me last night. I had been called away on urgent business to Lagos and decided to lodge in one of the Posh hotels I found along the road close to my place of work. The surroundings were neat and the room fare was reasonable. I was assured of 24hrs power supply whenever PHCN decided to do their thing and the air conditioning was chilling. All in all, I was impressed with the place and decided to lay my head there for the duration of my stay. Little did I know this was to be the beginning of a very long and ardous night. The first sign of trouble came from when I finished showering and got out of the bathroom to meet a swarm of mosquitoes circling the bread I had bought on my journey. They were everywhere and for a moment I wondered what they could possibly be attracted to in the bread since it contained no blood whatsoever, at least as far as I knew. My curiosity turned quickly to alarm however as they detected the presence of a warm blooded entity in the vicinity , namely me,and diverted their attention towards my direction. I swatted and slapped and eventually decided to put on the overhead fan on the highest speed to blow them all away. This worked and I dressed up in peace and decided to take further precautions by taking a little stroll outside to see if I could buy insecticide. I got Mortein odourless spray and came back ready to engage my undesirable roommates in chemical warefare. I sprayed the entire room and exited the place quickly. Even as I left I saw them falling to the ground like shot-down fighter planes. A few stubborn ones remained unperturbed and were still zipping through the air when I closed the door behind me, however I was confident that eventually the insecticide would get them. I waited outside until I was sure the insecticide had taken its toll and then entered the room again. As I was going in ,I saw one of the hotel attendants and brought his attention to the ravenous insects in my room. He apologized profusely and offered to go and get insecticide but I told him it was alright, I had taken care of it. I didn’t want him to feel too bad, after all, he wasn’t the one who had put the mosquitoes there, was he? By the time I entered back into the room, the whole tiled floor was littered with the corpses of my enemies. I sighed in relief at the sight and brushed them aside to the entrance of the door as a warning to other invaders that this land was now occupied. I settled comfortably into my room and ate some of the bread and some fruit and lay down on the soft silky bed for a good night's sleep. The time was 10pm. |
THE SEIGE The following takes place at a hotel somewhere in Lagos between 10pm and 6am. Events occur in real time. |

The memory still clings to me like it was yesterday. We looked out of this same window, admiring the same lucid scenery from mother nature herself. She had held me so softly, her body gently but firmly pressed against mine. She had smelled of lavender and hibiscus and her skin had been cool to the touch. we must have stood there for almost an hour, admiring the beautiful scenery as the seagulls flew lazily past in the evening sky. "Let's go for a swim!" She had finally whispered, her lips close to my ear, tickling my ear lobe rapturously. I had smiled and turned to look into her face, her beauiful face, the face of a goddess if ever there was one. She smiled up at me, her beautiful smile invoked in me so much love that I wanted to go on my knees and declare my love once again. She saw my lips move and quickly put a dainty finger to them, silencing them in one graceful movement. then she grinned and ran out of the room, her flower adorned dress blowing gaily in the evening wind. I ran after her, laughing and making mock attempts to catch her as she ran towards the sea. She stopped suddenly and I bumped into her, almost knocking her over. I wanted to apologise but then again she put her finger to my lips. "Don't talk, just Be." She said. Then she took off her clothes before me. Slowly, seductively, almost innocently, her bare beauty was revealed to me. And I marvelled at this natural architecture of wonder, of art, of creation. She looked away shyly and covered her breasts with her arms. Then innocent eyes flashing in determination she stared back at me. "Your turn" she said softly. I obeyed. It was the most natural thing to do. In a moment we both stood naked in the Sun's evening light with the foamy waters of the advancing waves beating against our ankles. She drew closer and that hibiscus scent wafted into my nostrils. We kissed. Our lips touched and it was like little flashes of electricity shared between us. She tasted of chocolate and honey and I couldn't get enough. We were so lost in our kiss that we didnt see the big wave coming and it swept us right off our feet. I got up laughing and tried to picked her limp form up. It wasn't until I saw the blood gushing from her head and the sharp rock where she had fallen that I began to comprehend what had happened. What happened thereafter was like a blur. I remember hauling her limp frame back to the house, crying as I stumbled about looking for the car keys, finally finding them and driving like a lunatic to the nearby hospital with her lying in the back seat, blood pooling around her forehead and staining the upholstery...there was so much blood. The doctors tried thier best to console me, I had been a few minutes too late. Its been thirty years and the memory still causes me pain. I still smell the lavender and hibiscus anytime I stand by the window. And when the wife asks for the frame to be changed I shake my head stubbornly. When she points out the rotten wooden edges and the rusty hinges I smile reminiscingly. Lately she has come to start joinig me by the window and together we sit and enjoy the evening breeze. "Its a lovely scenery," she says, but i quickly put my finger to her lips and smile. "Don't talk," I say, "Just Be." |
"Don't be too rough on her!" Bisi whispered to the boy beside her. She immediately recognised Desmond, Michael's roomate and friend. It was dark so she coudnt see the other guy's face clearly but sher knew it was Michael alright. He was the one Eye usually sent to do her dirty work. She watched, her heart beating fast as Michael dragged the now limp form of Joy into the forest. "Go, Bisi. Go now!" Desmond urged. "Wait, lemme tell mike to take it easy on her..." "Listen to me you stupid girl and do as I say!" Desmond's harsh words cut through her like a knife. She had always known him to be the quiet sort and suspected he had a crush on her. These harsh words from him were very unexpected and threw her off balance. "Its just rape you guys are going to rape her right? nothing more, right?" She asked foolishly. "Get out of here!" Desmond shouted. "To where?" Micheal interjected, coming out of the bush where he had placed Joy's unconscious body. "Where is she going to? Or are you saying you have forgotten our instructions already?" "What instructions?" Bisi queried Desmond stood up to his full height and turned to face Michael. "You will not touch her!" He said, clenching and unclenching his fists menacingy. Michael laughed. "Not only will I touch, I will lick, suck and Bleep the hell out of her!" He whispered harshly, his eyes glinting evilly in the dark. "You think I didnt see your reaction when I told you Bisi was going to be raped as well? You think your love for her is a well guarded secret? Man, you are an open book! Easily readable!" "Wait, rape me?" Bisi stammered and started backing away, "why? what did I do?" "Eye's orders" Michael responded and started to approach her. Desmond stood to block his path and Michael whipped out the gun from his waist. "Try me." He said, still smiling. Desmond balked when he saw the gun. He had never seen michael handle a gun before. Ususally when they went on such missions they carried axes or cutlasses and daggers to threathen their prey but never guns. He watched as Michael handled the gun deflty. "Guy..." he began "Bleep, I think I'll just shoot you sef and kill bisi then run off before anybody comes around. It will be too late before anyone comes sef, they'll even be too scared to venture out of thier homes. Maybe that's what I'll do and save myself some unnecessary stress!" Michael said, gritting his teeth and smiling evilly. When Bisi saw the gun her mind went blank with panic. She knew Michael was a dangerous guy and wouldnt hesitate to use it. she could still smell the hemp in the air and knew he was high as well. a dangerous combination, doped up mike and a gun. She began to whimper but mike hissed "Shut up! I'm not goood for you abi? I'm not up to your level shey?" "Mike, I'm begging you, please let me go...I swear I wont tell anybody..." she cried going to her knees. Desmond decided to act fast and made to lunge for the gun. To his surprise Mike reacted faster and turned the gun away, at the same time a dagger flashed and blood spurted down Desmond's arm. He yelled and pulled away but not before Michael stabbed him once in the belly. He fell to his knees, clutching his bleeding belly with his right hand while his left bled profusely. Before he could regain himself Mike had stepped away from them both and pointed the gun at Bisi's head. "You fools think I'm to be played with? Stupid, stupid!" he was almost shouting now. The bushpath became more quiet as the nocturnal animals became silent at the sound of this superior predator. "Bisi, get up and walk to where I kept Joy's body. Desmond, follow behind her. Any stupid moves by any of you and I will shoot the other person. Now move!" Bisi got up still whimpering and sobbbing and walked towards Joy's body and Desmond got up and followed behind her. Michael followed them both, his gun trained and ready until they reached where Joy was. Michael positioned himself on a big stone and sat down. He looked at both of them and grinnned. "Now we are going to have a little fun. There's no point raping Joy for now cos she's still unconscious, she wont feel it, talkless of remembering it, and it isnt rape if she can't remember anything right?" He chuckled to himself. "We have to wait for the drug to wear off. In the meantime we'll entertain ourselves." Desmond eyed him warily. His stomach had stopped bleeding at least externally and the knife cut in his hand was beginning to clot. Bisi stood beside Joy, her whole body trembling violently. "Desmond my man, we are going to start with your babe first. And by we, I mean you. I want you to Bleep this woman good while I watch." |

frank317:IF life is a mystery, then maybe there is something beyond life, something beyond the physical, smeone in charge. It would be wise to invest towards that someone since death is imminent to all man. And no, medicine is not rebellious to faith in God. That's what newly graduated doctors tend to say until they get some experience and are surrounded by life and death. Then they become deeply religious or deeply disturbed. Story for another day. Hence he is a Gud of trial and error. Do you even know you are talking about a supposed creator of the world? If God exist I would say you just insulted him with the above. The discussion of freewill has spanned the ages. It is not something we can discuss conclusively here. Suffice it to say that God created humans in his image. Unlike animals, which act mainly on instinct, we resemble our Creator in our capacity to display such qualities as love and justice. And like our Creator, we have free will. To a great extent, we can determine our future. The Bible encourages us to “choose life . . . by listening to [God’s] voice,” that is, by choosing to obey his commands. (Deuteronomy 30:19, 20) This offer would be meaningless, even cruel, if we lacked free will. Instead of forcing us to do what he says, God warmly appeals to us: “O if only you would actually pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river.”—Isaiah 48:18. The Bible does teach that God is Almighty, that his power is not limited by anyone other than himself. (Job 37:23; Isaiah 40:26) However, he does not use his power to control everything. For example, the Bible says that God was “exercising self-control” toward ancient Babylon, an enemy of his people. (Isaiah 42:14). If God made us without freewill then there would have been no need for creation, no need for man to be fruitful and multiply, no need for nations and salvation. No need for anything. We would all be robots and the world would be very boring to say the least. Lol..."with the HOPE that afterwards they would choose good..." I can't belive this is coming from a doctor... If it were mysogynist or ebukasblog or some other people here I would have understood, but u? Smh. you see what you want to see. You won't see any farther than your nose until you chose to do so. You once had faith and then you lost it and chose to become atheistic. Its your choice what you want to see. It all depends on where you stand. You know nothing of what I have seen as a doctor so kindly do not go there. No vex... Why is freewill so precious to God? Will there be this free will in heaven? Do you think free will that has to rendered this world useless is a gift? What does your God tend to achieve with free will?I dont know. You could try asking Him. Of course it is not the first time... I just wonder why all his trial and error seem not to just work. And of course, mans choice will always over ride Gods desire...smhAll these seem like anger to me and your own personal opinion. I could be wrong though. Abeg I wan sleep. Do have a good night's rest. |
frank317:Because I see things others do not see. ![]() Seriously though, I have always maintained that no matter how much someone preaches to you, if you have never had a supernatural thing happen to you in your life then it would take great faith for you to believe. Can you explain how I would pray for someone and put annointing oil on his eyes and then he would rush back from where he was and say I was trying to blind him? Surely you have a logical explanation for that? Or how I would touch a patient and know he was a goner, no matter what would be done for him? Or having three days of sleepless nights thinking of my mom loosing money and calling her on the third night only to find out she has lost hundreds of thousands of naira? Any rational explanations for these? Another reason I dismiss the Noah story is because it does not tell well of God. Why kill the whole world and save just eight people and few animals only for sin to continue right after the flood. What was the point of the venture? Just some tanthrum throwing act? If the eight people he save continued in sin or their off springs continued in sin what was the point of the flood? Why save them only for them to continue what you intended to destroy?Freewill. Someone has explained that very well here before. You are asking if God is omniscient and knows all, why kill off the human beings if he knew they were just going to sin again. Humour me for a moment. If you have watched Men In BLack 3, you would have seen the Griffin, the last member of the Archanan race. The griffin is supposed to know everything that has been, that is , or that ever will be. But what griffin actually possesses is his ability to see different futures depending on the decisions people take at the time. Freewill works sort of like that. God saw that all of man's heart was inherently evil. Man's soul had become stained by the dark substance that was the devil and he was now a contaminated product. Man already had freewill and had the choice wehter to choose good or evil but he invariably always sought to do evil instead. God wanted to cleanse mankind with water, wipe out the whole lot, and probably start again. But, Noah had chosen to do good. God couldnt just kill him. So he decided to save him and his entire family with the hope that afterwards they would choose to do good and make the right choices via freewill. One forseeable future saw that they would, the other future saw that they wouldnt. And God does not interfere with freewill, that is strictly left for man. All he allows himself to do most times is influence it, same as the devil. So Noah found favour in God's sight because he did good and so God decided to save him. This would not be the first or last time God has tried to save the righteous in the midst of total anahilaition of the wicked. Unfortunately, man eventually went back to doing evil again. It was man's choice to do this. It could have gone either way but Man once again chose evil. Why should u say if people don't believe in the bible, they shouldn't discuss it. How then can it be debunked if it is not discussed? The Bible can be discussed as a storybook, as a historical book, as a scholarly book, as a philosophical book. But the true message of the Bible lies its Supernatural connotation i.e Faith in GOd and his message of Hope for all mankind. That is a supernatural message and since science has as yet not found a way to quantify the supernatural, the book cannot be discussed scientifically for such purposes. P.S, if you discuss or study anything soley for the purpose of debunking it, then you can never see the message it holds. That is true for christianity, islam or even communism. |
AtheistD:If you really want to know, He wanted to start over. There were also some animals that were 'not right', so to speak. These animals had to be eliminated. It was a general cleansing sort of thing. But that's another story. And you really don't want to know. |
Interesting. Why would a woman marry a man she can't submit to? That in itself is a recipe for disaster. |
frank317:NO I don't think God built the great pyramids. I think it was built by people of great stature and highly advanced technology, Maybe even more advanced than what we have today. Why? |
frank317:Well, how an you discuss biblical events without mentioning the supernatural? How did Jesus use five bread and two fish to feed five thousand people? How did noah live up to 6ooyrs? How was the red sea parted? All these and many many more are scientifucally impossible but they are recorded in the bible. You cant use only science to discuss biblical matters as you'll be putiing believers at a disadvantage. If people dont want to believe in the bible then they shouldnt discuss it at all as it is in no way a book of logic but rather a book of faith. Seeing it as anything else than the Word of God makes it a fairytale storybook to the unbeliever. And yet as advanced as science is, it still cant explain the building of the pyramids. Something that was scientifically IMPOSSIBLE in those days and even in our modern era, yet stands out hundreds of feet in the air as a sore thumb in the eyes of scientists all over the world. If you as a scientist cannot explain how the great pyramids were built, why would you want to debunk things you know nothing of? |
ojimbo:I dont see the reason for your insult, really. I never addressed you. Cant you pass your message across without being insultive? It is common knowledge that the human reaction in any strange situation is to either pass it off as superstition or he begins to rationanlise. If the inhabitants at the time had seen noah herding the animals into the ark they would probably have come to look, but would also probably have laughed him off as performing cheap tricks. There would have been a daily viewing of the ark as animals trudged into it but most people would have simply gone about thier buisness after looking on for a few hours. The one or two that might have suspected something was going on would have been too ashamed to associate themselves with the 'madman' called Noah. then again it says nowhere that all the animals came at once. Maybe they gathered into the ark over a long period of time or maybe they came at night. Then again maybe God hardened the hearts of the people so they wouldnt want to be saved. there are so many different scenarios to what might have actually happened. Pls answer civily next time, no need for insults. |
Lacomus:You're welcome |
Nice one, Complete. A husband isnt just the woman impregnator, but the woman protector and family nurturer. |
Gabbyswit:Things are going as they should be. 1But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Even quoting the bible now gets a lot of people angry, yet there was a time when the bible was the moral compass of the world. Yet it predicted these events before time. People will come and rationalise all kinds of points on why homosexuality is normal when we all know deep down that it is not. Its all part of the master plan. There will be chaos and lawlessness, more abominations will be brought into law and rationalised and people will continue to defend it and talk about living and let live even though they know deep down that it is wrong. |
Beautiful one peacefulness, well done! |
Eye fell back on the living room sofa and tried to go back to sleep. Bisi's reluctant reply had really pissed her off but she tried not to think about it now. She needed as much sleep as possible if she was to remain awake to carry out the plans she had for Joy tonight. That foolish Joy who thought she was above everybody! She thought she was untouchable abi? Tonight was going to teach her a lesson or two . Joy had secretly gone behind her back to be seeing Kunle, and all the girls in the neighborhood knew that Kunle belonged to her, Eye. How dare she! But she would regret it. The local gang didn't call Eye "street scorpion" for nothing. Eye was the leader of a local all girl cult of girls who called themselves "Loyal Hoes". They took pride in thier name and were sworn to defend and be loyal to each other no matter the cost. She and three other girls made up the cult and together they terrorised the other girls in the vicinity. Bisi had always admired the cult from a distance and had finally joined a few weeks ago and this was to have been her first assignment. However Bisi was proving to be squeamish. What was difficult in luring Joy out of her house by 9pm that evening to the bush path so the boys she had arranged could ambush, kidnap and rape her? It was not as if Bisi needed to do any restraining, just escort her out and the boys would do the rest. But Bisi had refused! Bisi had refused her request because she actually believed the lying Joy when she said she had nothing to do with Kunle that they were just friends! Joy had even gone so far as to say that if there was anybody she was liking it was Eye's own brother, Emeka! The fool thought she could sooth her ego with such stupid lies! Which girl in her right mind would want ugly hairy Emeka? Eye wiped the raging thoughts from her mind as she closed her eyes and concentrated on getting some more sleep. She would go to Ozioma who already knew of the plan. Ozioma would help. |

Joy was a different kettle of fish altogether. Whereas Emeka couldn't help saying silly things when Bisi was around, He was at perfect ease with Joy. Joy was twenty years of age and with small breasts and a thin waist, was more of a tomboy than a girl. She was always seen hanging out with the boys, climbing trees and playing football. Her boyish look and lack of interest in make-up made it very easy for the guys to warm up to her and take her as one of the pack. As Emeka walked towards her house at the end of the road he pondered on what Bisi and Eye had argued about. Probably some foolish girlish nonsense. Normally he wouldn't even care, but he didn't want his sister and the beautiful Bisi to stop being friends, at least not until he had struck up a friendly rapport with her. He mentally slapped himself at the goof he had made only a few minutes ago. Why would he announce to the girl of his dreams that he snored like a pig? How ridiculous was that? He was still podering over these thoughts and didn't know when he passed Joy's house. Luckily for him, she was sitting on the verandah and saw him passing by, deep in thought. "Olodo, where you dey go?" She called out. Emeka was torn out of his reviere. He turned around suddenly and gave an exclamation of surprise. "IT's your house I was coming to o!" He grinned as he retraced his steps. Joy was madly in love with Emeka. For a boy of twenty five years he looked awesomely handsome and had a very mature beard under his chin. His arms were muscular but not too much, just the way she liked it. He had a scent that was just heavenly and even though he had told her on numerous occassions when she asked, she could never wuite remember the name of the deodorant that he used. Of course Emeka was totally oblivious of Joy's affections. He had eyes only for Bisi and unfortunately never hid it from joy but rather came to joy for relationship advice. It hurt her no end but she grinned and bore it. "What happened to Bisi this time?" She prompted. "i don't know what is wrong with that my yeye sister o, she just argues anyhow..." He paused. "Wait, how did you know I was coming to talk about Bisi?" "Because I know all." She winked and motioned for him to come in. He grinned and followed her into the parlour where a playstation 3 console was sitting on the rugged floor with the latest football game cartridge in the console. "First, I beat you at one game. Then we can talk!" Joy shouted fiercely. "Correct babe!" Emeka enthused and grabbing a gamepad, sat down to play. Bisi stormed the front door of her house and banged on the door. Her brother matthew opened it but before he could utter a word, Bisi was in and had gone and locked herself in her room. Matthew sighed and locked the door. He went back to his room and put on his earpiece, listening to Outcast. He didnt think he could deal with his sister's drama right now. Bisi on the other hand was miserable. She lay on her bed and covered her face with a pillow to hide the tears that had begun to flow freely down. She didn't want to do what Eye was suggesting, not to a kind girl like Joy. But if she didnt do it, Eye would never speak to her again. And she adored Eye to bits. She was even willing to go as far as to say that she was in love with Eye. |

As he watched, a figure appeared in the distance. As it approached Emeka was enthralled at the curves on this feminine beauty. Indeed she became more recognisable as she approached the house. It was Eye's best friend Bisi who lived down the street. Bisi came up to him and stretched out her hand, a beautiful smile pasted on her face. "Hi." She exclaimed. Emeka swallowed. He was always tongue tied whenever bisi was in the immediate vicinity. His hormones surged as her hand entered his and for a moment he forgot her name. "hello b.... B. " He gasped. " How are you? " " Fine thanks!" Bisi replied. "Is Eye at home?" "she's sleeping in the parlour. " he replied. And then feeling more confident he added " She snores like a pig! " and burst into laughter. Bisi didn't laugh. The smile left her face immediately. "That's not a nice thing to say about your own sister." She retorted. "I'm sorry. " Emeka replied immediately and stood up. " She snores like me so I didn't really mean any harm... " " So you snore? " Bisi contorted her face into a grimace. " eeeeech. Please try and stop, a lot of girls will run from you if they find that out. Please let me see my main girl abeg. " Emeka grunted and let her in, waited until she was out of sight, then proceeded to bang his head repeatedly on the wall. |
Once upon a time. Emeka sat at the door of his house looking out into the horizon. Today had been Incredibly boring. He listened intently for any sign of noise coming from inside the house. He knew Eye would sleep soundly for the next few hours. The load of pounded yam and egusi she had swallowed was enough to feed ten able bodied men. He squirmed in disgust as he heard his sister's loud snoring coming from the parlour. How she managed to have a boyfriend with her disgusting behaviour was quite beyond him. |
