N9,000,000 is £45,000 a month. That is ridiculously too high for a player at the end of his career.

It is a lot of money for an aging player but PSL is trying to build a brand that can compete with some of the big european leagues.By attractiing players like Boa Morte they hope that in future younger Africans,Europeans,South Amerians players will see PSL also as an option.

I know Benni McCarthy is making noise about targeting to be the first player to win Champions league(EUROPE) and Caf Champions league. That itself could be a good motivation for players to play in the PSL,more so if they're paid well, infrustructure is top class, league and clubs run professionally.

Ajax Cape Town have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker George Akpabio.

KickOff.com reported earlier on Monday that the former Plateau United marksman was on the brink of becoming an Urban Warrior and he has indeed signed for the Cape side.

“He has signed a two-year-and-a-half contract with an option for two more years,” Ajax CEO George Comitis confirms.

How much on average do these Nigerian players earn?

Editorial: Big salaries will hurt PSL
The New Age Editorial

There is no prize for guessing the latest attraction to South African football for some of the big names in football. Some Premier Soccer League clubs are paying salaries that were quite unimaginable a few years ago.

Former Arsenal and West Ham star Luis Boa Morte joined defending champions Orlando Pirates yesterday for an undisclosed take-home package. With his former teammate Benni McCarthy already reported to be earning R450000 a month, the Portuguese cannot be too far off that mark.

Mamelodi Sundowns continue to set the pace in the PSL wage structures. They recently improved the salary of their prized possession Elias Pelembe to an estimated R480000 a month. With Teko Modise [b](R350000) [/b]and Katlego Mphela [b](R350000) [/b]also in their books, the face of SA football has dramatically changed. Factor in the monthly six-figure salaries of the coaches at Pirates and Sundowns and the R1m monthly grant for PSL clubs pales into insignificance.

With attendances at PSL matches low, barring the Chiefs-Pirates Soweto derby, suspicion has risen that finance to fund these exorbitant salaries are coming from outside the football business side of these clubs. The PSL management committee, through CEO Stan Matthews, have warned of the danger of clubs spending more than they are making.

We are all for clubs paying players decent wages because the game has evolved – but we cannot ignore the looming dangers that come with this free spending from a business that cannot support its own extravagances.

The PSL brand is placed at risk when the gap between the haves and the have nots is so wide. Competition for the league title will be reduced to the three richest clubs.

The disparity between the top earners and other players will also cause a lot of unhappiness – even at these big clubs. The PSL must move to protect their brand and consider salary caps. This is a good time to look into the issue of controlling players’ wages – especially given the worrying rate of their yearly increments.

And we all know that in Gauteng all 11 languages are spoken, compare to North West where Setswana is the main language,Mpumalanga is Ndebele and Swati ,KwaZulu Natal is Zulu,Limpopo is Venda,Shangaan and Pedi,Free State is Sotho,Western Cape is Xhosa and Afrikaanse,Eastern Cape is Xhosa,Northen Cape is Tswana and Afrikaans

Unfortunetely South Africa is in this 'war' alone, some of our African brothers will do anything to protect the interest of the west, even if it means going over their own countrymen to achieve their objectives.

South Africa has always had the culture of standing against the west, putting justice and freedom before business and friendship.

In 2003 he said America is the threat to world peace, below is the interview he did with Newsweek

NEWSWEEK: Why are you speaking out on Iraq? Do you want to mediate, as you tried to on the Mideast a couple of years ago? It seems you are reentering the fray now.

Nelson Mandela: If I am asked, by credible organizations, to mediate, I will consider that very seriously. But a situation of this nature does not need an individual, it needs an organization like the United Nations to mediate. We must understand the seriousness of this situation. The United States has made serious mistakes in the conduct of its foreign affairs, which have had unfortunate repercussions long after the decisions were taken. Unqualified support of the Shah of Iran led directly to the Islamic revolution of 1979. Then the United States chose to arm and finance the [Islamic] mujahedin in Afghanistan instead of supporting and encouraging the moderate wing of the government of Afghanistan. That is what led to the Taliban in Afghanistan. But the most catastrophic action of the United States was to sabotage the decision that was painstakingly stitched together by the United Nations regarding the withdrawal of the Soviet Union from Afghanistan. If you look at those matters, you will come to the conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a threat to world peace. Because what [America] is saying is that if you are afraid of a veto in the Security Council, you can go outside and take action and violate the sovereignty of other countries. That is the message they are sending to the world. That must be condemned in the strongest terms. And you will notice that France, Germany Russia, China are against this decision. It is clearly a decision that is motivated by George W. Bush's desire to please the arms and oil industries in the United States of America. If you look at those factors, you'll see that an individual like myself, a man who has lost power and influence, can never be a suitable mediator.

What about the argument that's being made about the threat of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and Saddam's efforts to build a nuclear weapons. After all, he has invaded other countries, he has fired missiles at Israel. On Thursday, President Bush is going to stand up in front of the United Nations and point to what he says is evidence of ,

,  Scott Ritter, a former United Nations arms inspector who is in Baghdad, has said that there is no evidence whatsoever of [development of weapons of] mass destruction. Neither Bush nor [British Prime Minister] Tony Blair has provided any evidence that such weapons exist. But what we know is that Israel has weapons of mass destruction. Nobody talks about that. Why should there be one standard for one country, especially because it is black, and another one for another country, Israel, that is white.

So you see this as a racial question?

Well, that element is there. In fact, many people say quietly, but they don't have the courage to stand up and say publicly, that when there were white secretary generals you didn't find this question of the United States and Britain going out of the United Nations. But now that you've had black secretary generals like Boutros Boutros Ghali, like Kofi Annan, they do not respect the United Nations. They have contempt for it. This is not my view, but that is what is being said by many people.

What kind of compromise can you see that might avoid the coming confrontation?

There is one compromise and one only, and that is the United Nations. If the United States and Britain go to the United Nations and the United Nations says we have concrete evidence of the existence of these weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and we feel that we must do something about it, we would all support it.

Do you think that the Bush administration's U.N. diplomatic effort now is genuine, or is the President just looking for political cover by speaking to the U.N. even as he remains intent on forging ahead unilaterally?

Well, there is no doubt that the United States now feels that they are the only superpower in the world and they can do what they like. And of course we must consider the men and the women around the president. Gen. Colin Powell commanded the United States army in peacetime and in wartime during the Gulf war. He knows the disastrous effect of international tension and war, when innocent people are going to die, young men are going to die. He knows and he showed this after September 11 last year. He went around briefing the allies of the United States of America and asking for their support for the war in Afghanistan. But people like D. Cheney ,  I see yesterday there was an article that said he is the real president of the United States of America, I don't know how true that is. D. Cheney, [Defense Secretary Donald] Rumsfeld, they are people who are unfortunately misleading the president. Because my impression of the president is that this is a man with whom you can do business. But it is the men who around him who are dinosaurs, who do not want him to belong to the modern age. The only man, the only person who wants to help Bush move to the modern era is Gen. Colin Powell, the secretary of State.

I gather you are particularly concerned about Vice President Cheney?

Well, there is no doubt. He opposed the decision to release me from prison [laughs]. The majority of the U.S. Congress was in favor of my release, and he opposed it. But it's not because of that. Quite clearly we are dealing with an arch-conservative in D. Cheney.
I'm interested in your decision to speak out now about Iraq. When you left office, you said, "I'm going to go down to Transkei, and have a rest." Now maybe that was a joke at the time. But you've been very active.
I really wanted to retire and rest and spend more time with my children, my grandchildren and of course with my wife. But the problems are such that for anybody with a conscience who can use whatever influence he may have to try to bring about peace, it's difficult to say no.

@Thiza, a lot of what you listed was not achieved by the current government, unfortunately. For example:
1. Singita is owned by a White man. It was established by the owner's grandfather in 1925
2. Durban being the largest port is not thanks to our government.
3. Chris Hani-Baragwanath hospital was built in 1941-by Smuts's government.
4. How many Black people own hotels or B&Bs to capitalise on the popularity in Hermanus?
5. Cape Argus Cycle Tour was started by Whites in 1978, long before black rule as with the Midmar Mile (1973). Blacks excel at running, and they win the marathons every year, but still the Comrades marathon was established by a White man-in 1921, 7 decades before black rule.
6. How many of those golfers you speak about are Blacks?
7. The SA Astronomical Obsevatory was established in 1972, long before Black rule.
8. Nuclear weapons were built under WHITE rule in the 70s, not Black rule. The reason they were dismantled was because the Apartheid government did not want the weapons to be in possession of Blacks.
9. SA Breweries is not under government control and it isn't even headed by a Black.
10. SAAF was not founded a this government, it was founded in 1920. Were Blacks even allowed to be part of an Air Force?
11. Are the greater proportion of people who are part of the processing of our minerals(engineers, scientists, researchers) Blacks?

@Miss Orania, basicaly what you are saying is that Blacks achieved Zol? I told you that you're a white racist boere meisie.I can smell a racist miles away.

sa_lassie, it is clear, from your comments, that you are either of mixed parentage or you are not black. I know how it must feel from your outlook at the new arrangements. There is a good reason white Americans are suspicious and will not hand power over to a descendant of slave i this country. They fear the reprisal. The one who hurts the soul of another empowers them with an enduring and fearsome power. As we speak, there are many many residuals of divisions ad racist treatments against blacks all over the world. There are treasures stolen from Africa that are still held by Europeans. If you truly want to be a soldier for justice ad uity, fight that cause to restore dignity to the humanity of black victims still in shackles of white dominace in places like Australia, America, before you you call for Blacks to to embrace and share space with Whites. Whites reluctantly gave up in South Africa due too international pressure not because they had sympathy for their black citizens.

South Africa Confirms No Bid for 2020 Olympics
JOHANNESBURG – South Africa will not reconsider bidding for the 2020 Olympics, ending a long-running saga over whether the country would try to host the next available Summer Games.

Officials from South Africa's sports ministry and the national Olympic Committee told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the bid for 2020 Games the sports minister had wanted to revive would not be pursued.

The country -- which successfully hosted soccer's World Cup last year -- would likely bid for the 2024 Olympics, the sports ministry and Olympic committee said.

South Africa's cabinet said in May it was not the right time for an Olympic bid and Department of Sport and Recreation spokesman Paena Galane said Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula had now decided against asking the government to reconsider.

"We are not going to resubmit the request to bid to cabinet," Galane said. "There will be no bid from South Africa for the 2020 Olympics. After careful consideration, the minister (Mbalula) has decided to respect the cabinet decision."

Galane added "the ambition is to consider 2024."

Mbalula had given South Africa's Olympic committee faint hopes that a bid could be revived to bring Africa its first Olympics.

South Africa's chances had also been boosted after it staged the 123rd International Olympic Committee session in Durban last month. The east coast city was favored to be South Africa's candidate.

However, South African Olympic Committee and IOC executive member Sam Ramsamy said the national Olympic body had been told the bid would not be revived.

"We are disappointed, but we understand the complexities of the issues," Ramsamy told the AP. "We will certainly go for 2024. We will engage government and even though there is nothing official yet (for 2024), the indication is that the government will be favorable to a bid."

Rome, Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul, Turkey, have all formally announced they will bid to host the 2020 Summer Games.

A U.S. candidature is possible after the U.S. Olympic Committee filed preliminary paperwork required by the IOC ahead of any potential bid. Doha, Qatar, is also a possible contender.
National Olympic associations have until Sept. 1 to announce candidate cities for 2020.

Foreign Affairs / West Undermining African Self-determination – Mbeki by RSA(m): 12:09pm On Nov 07, 2011
Recent events in Libya should raise alarm bells about the threat to Africa’s hard won right to self-determination, former president Thabo Mbeki has said.

Addressing the Law Society of the Northern Provinces in Sun City, Mbeki said it “seemed obvious” that a few powerful countries were seeking to use the council to pursue their selfish interests.

They were determined to behave according to the principle that “might is right” and to sideline the principle of self-determination.

“I must state categorically that those who have sought to manufacture a particular outcome out of the conflict in Libya have propagated a poisonous canard aimed at discrediting African and AU opposition to the Libyan debacle.”

He said this was done on the basis that the African Union and the rest of “us” had been “bought by Colonel Gadaffi with petro-dollars” and felt obliged to defend his continued misrule.

He said all known means of disinformation were being bandied about, included an argument that Gadaffi’s Libya had supported the ANC during the apartheid struggle.

“The incontrovertible fact is that during this whole period, Libya did not give the ANC even one cent, did not train even one of our military combatants and did not supply us with even one bullet.

“This is because Gadaffi’s Libya made the determination that the ANC was little more than an instrument of Zionist Israel, because we had among our leaders such outstanding patriots as the late Joe Slovo.”

Mbeki said Libya’s assistance to the ANC came after 1990, when it realised that the ANC was a genuine representative of the overwhelming majority of our people.

Assertions that the AU depended on Libyan money to ensure its survival were false and yet another fabrication.

“The UN Security Council Resolution on a no-fly-zone said nothing about regime change. However the fact of the matter is that the NATO actions had everything to do with the overthrow of the Gadaffi regime.”

The AU had in fact adopted a roadmap for the negotiated resolution of the conflict in Libya.

“To all intents and purposes the Security Council ignored the AU decision and later blocked the AU Panel on Libya from flying into the country to begin the process of mediating a peaceful resolution.

“Libya is an African country. In addition to this, in terms of international peace and security, the conflict in that country has impacted and will continue to impact directly and negatively on a number of African countries.”

Despite this, the Security Council chose to ignore the AU, he said

SAfricans Hired to Help Gaddafi Escape: Report
Nineteen South Africans were contracted to help former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi escape to Niger and two of them died in the process, the Rapport newspaper reported on Sunday.

However, the department of international relations and co-operation has distanced itself from the newspaper report saying there was no way of verifying it "independently".

"As far as we are concerned, they remain rumours for now. They [the mercenaries] wouldn't have gone through official channels so we've got no way of independently verifying these allegations," said spokesman Clayson Monyela.

In an interview with Rapport, one of the men, Danie Odendaal, who was being treated in a North African hospital, told the newspaper that the South Africans had been hired by a number of private security companies.

He described their efforts to evacuate Gaddafi from his home town of Sirte, in Libya, as a "massive failure".

Gaddafi was killed on Thursday.

Odendaal and four other South Africans were apparently in a Jeep which raced out of Sirte in the Gaddafi convoy.

He told the newspaper: "We all believed they wanted to get him out (of Libya)", but the Nato-forces opened fire on the convoy from the air.

Libyan soldiers then descended on the convoy. Gaddafi and a couple of his minders fled into a storm water drain, where he was later found. The mercenaries scattered.

Odendaal told Rapport that the Libyans were mindful not to shoot the foreigners and helped him to flee.

President Jacob Zuma has said on Friday that Gaddafi should not have been killed, but brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC) to answer to allegations of torturing and killing civilians and rebel forces.

There was a trend across the world that leaders were not being given the opportunity of a trial, Zuma said.

"Given there was a warrant of arrest against Gaddafi, those who found him should have arrested him and handed him to the ICC," he said.

"We expected him to be captured, given that everybody knew there was a warrant of arrest issued against
