The report says that he 'narrowly escaped lynching', that the local boys 'continued to torture him', and that they stripped him unclothed and beat him until he crapped himself. So how 'lucky' was he? A very good point, but not actually to do with this case. The local people can't very well kill this man, just because the justice system is corrupt. 'Street justice' too, makes mistakes sometimes, I've seen it happen with my own eyes.

Part of the problem here is that it is almost impossible to be gay in Naija without getting into trouble somehow. Luckily, it will change. I remember when even in Lagos educated people thought that divorce was a mortal sin.

The situation is clear. There is no case for capital punishment here (at least not in the eyes of the sane). Federal Law vs Sharia Law is a slightly different argument that needs to be sorted separately - just like it is not reasonable to bring other outstanding problems in Naija into the argument as needing to be solved first. The issue is: Is Yerima reasonable?
