TravelRe: I'll Be Relocating To Lagos Next Month, Any Advice? by Rubyjade: 6:55pm On Mar 01
Ahhh, my dear brave explorer heading to Lagos — the land where “I’m 5 minutes away” actually means “I just entered the shower” 😭

First of all, I respect the confidence. “City of endless hustle and opportunity” — yes. Endless is correct. Because the hustle truly does not end. Even your alarm clock in Lagos will wake up before you.

Now let me advise you properly — in the spirit of love and survival:

1. Traffic will test your ancestors.
You will leave home at 7am and still arrive “yesterday.” Learn patience. Download podcasts. Consider learning Mandarin in traffic — you’ll become fluent before Third Mainland Bridge clears.

2. Cost of living?
Lagos will humble your calculator. You’ll go out for “small outing” and your bank app will start breathing heavily. Always ask, “How much?” twice. The first answer is for tourists.

3. Networking is oxygen.
In Lagos, your cousin’s neighbor’s barber might be your next big plug. Be nice. Shake hands. Save numbers. Lagos runs on vibes and connections.

4. Your village people are now upgraded.
Not spiritual ones — the “opportunity” ones. Everybody is selling something. If someone says, “I have one small investment for you,” hold your wallet like it’s your newborn child.

5. Accommodation hunting?
Agents will show you a house that looks like a music video on WhatsApp. When you arrive, it looks like a crime documentary. Inspect everything. Even the ceiling fan.

6. Soft life?
You said you’re ready to leave your comfort zone. Good. Because NEPA will also leave you. Frequently.

But honestly? You’re right about one thing — Lagos does not care where you’re from. It only respects consistency, courage, and competence. If you’re skilled and stubborn enough (the good stubborn), the city can reward you in ways that surprise you.

So go. Hustle. Build. Fail fast. Learn faster.
Just remember:

New city.
New challenges.
New level.
But please — new emergency savings too 😭

I’m rooting for you.
Chygozdegreat:
Hello nairalanders I’m planning to relocate to Lagos the city of endless hustle and opportunity.

They say there are greener pastures there, and I believe it. Lagos is a no man’s land; it doesn’t care where you’re from, only what you can offer and how hard you’re willing to work.

It’s a city where dreams are tested, skills are sharpened, and bold moves are rewarded. I’m ready to step out of my comfort zone, embrace the grind, and chase bigger opportunities.
New city. New challenges. New level. wink wink

🚨 IRAN. ISRAEL. USA. WAR HAS STARTED. Are you financially prepared — or are you about to get wiped out?

Today — February 28, 2026 — the US and Israel launched joint military strikes on Iran.

Missiles hit Tehran. Iran fired back. US military bases in Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait are under attack RIGHT NOW.

The Middle East is on fire.

And while the world watches in shock… I'm not shocked. I've been warning about this for YEARS.

Here's how we got here — because nobody's talking about the FULL picture:

December 2025 — Iran's economy collapsed. The currency cratered. Prices exploded. Millions took to the streets in the BIGGEST protests since 1979.

The Iranian regime's response? They massacred their own people. Over 30,000 dead.

June 2025 — The US already bombed Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran rebuilt. Quietly.

February 13, 2026 — President Trump publicly called for regime change in Iran.

February 26 — Last ditch peace talks in Geneva. FAILED.

February 27 — The US told its embassy staff in Israel to GET OUT.

February 28 — TODAY. Missiles flying. Bases burning. World War III has begun.

This didn't happen overnight. The writing was on the wall for anyone paying attention. But most people were too busy watching Netflix to notice.

Here's what the RICH know that the poor and middle class don't:
Wars are not random. Wars are FINANCIAL events.

20% of the world's oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz — right where Iran is firing missiles today.

If that strait shuts down, oil hits $200 a barrel. Maybe more.

And then what happens?

Everything gets more expensive. The dollar gets weaker.
The stock market bleeds. And YOUR savings account gets quietly destroyed by inflation.

The poor and middle class will wonder what happened.

The rich already prepared.

Rich Dad taught me this: In times of crisis, "SAVERS are LOSERS."

When governments go to war, they PRINT money. Trillions.

To fund the bombs, the ships, the bases.

Every dollar they print makes YOUR dollar worth less. This is not conspiracy. This is history. This is math.

WWI — inflation exploded. WWII — inflation exploded. Vietnam — inflation exploded. The US is already $38 TRILLION in debt. Now add a massive war in the world's most critical oil region.

Who pays for that? YOU DO. Through inflation. The slow, invisible theft of your purchasing power.

So what do you do RIGHT NOW?

The same thing they ALWAYS do when governments panic:

1. Gold — Governments can't print it. When missiles fly, gold rises. It has for 5,000 years.

2. Bitcoin — People's money. No government controls it. No central bank can debase it.

3. Real Assets — Hard assets that inflation cannot destroy.

The scariest part of today isn't the missiles. It's the lost lives and the financial crisis which will follow after that.

The question isn't "Will this affect me?" It will.

Prepare now. Not tomorrow. NOW.

CareerRe: Fashion Design Or Phone Technician by Rubyjade: 5:28pm On Feb 28
danilho:
Happy weekend, please your advice is needed. For a person that have 12 to 18 months to learn, which do you suggest. Fashion design or phone repairer combined with sales of accessories. Please state your reasons. Thank you
If the priority is faster cash flow and practical income within 12–18 months, phone repair combined with accessory sales may provide quicker returns.
If the priority is creativity, brand building, and long-term expansion potential, fashion design could be more rewarding — especially for someone passionate about style and trends.
Ultimately, passion + market demand + location advantage should guide the decision.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: Strictly Remote Jobs (SRJ) by Rubyjade: 3:57am On Feb 26
We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Senior Compliance Analyst

Locations: Abuja (FCT) and Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time
Work Location: Remote

Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Compliance Analyst to lead external audits and raise the consistency and quality of how our organization responds to auditors.
This role is built for someone who can take control language, interpret what it actually requires, and translate it into clear, actionable guidance for technical and business stakeholders.
You’ll be the person who makes sure we show up to audit walkthroughs prepared, with the right control owners, the right evidence, and the right story.
What you’ll do:

You’ll own and run the audit lifecycle for key compliance programs, with primary focus onSOC 2, ISO, and C5.
Audit leadership and execution:

Lead external audits end to end, including readiness planning, control walkthroughs, evidence review, and auditor management.
Serve as the primary point of contact for third-party auditors, ensuring smooth communication, tight timelines, and clean deliverables.
Drive audit prep meetings with control owners ahead of walkthroughs so stakeholders know what’s being tested, what “good evidence” looks like, and what not to submit.
Control interpretation and evidence quality:

Translate control requirements into practical implementation expectations across technical environments, policies, and processes.
Review and validate evidence before submission to prevent rework, misinterpretation, and “last year’s evidence” recycling when requirements or expectations have changed.
Help stakeholders understand the difference between “having documentation” and “showing operation,” especially for controls that require testing, monitoring, or recurring execution.
Stakeholder coordination:

Identify and confirm the correct control owners for each requirement, and ensure the right people are on audit calls.
Provide clear guidance to SMEs so they can confidently speak to how controls operate in real systems.
Build repeatable workflows and templates that reduce confusion and make audit participation easier for busy teams.
Program maturity and mentoring:

Mentor and uplift less experienced team members, improving how control mapping, evidence management, and walkthrough prep is handled.
Support the move toward structured tracking and continuous monitoring using RSA Archer by helping define evidence expectations, ownership, and operating cadence.
Partner with internal teams to ensure audit tracking is complete, current, and accessible (status, ownership, artifacts, and auditor Q&A).
What success looks like:

Walkthroughs are clean, confident, and efficient because stakeholders are prepared and evidence is already validated.
Audit requests don’t turn into scramble drills because control ownership and evidence expectations are clear upfront.
We reduce audit churn by submitting evidence that matches the control intent the first time.
The audit program becomes more scalable through better structure, documentation, and mentorship.
What you bring
Experience and skills:

Education:Bachelor’s degree in a business, technical, or security-related field, or equivalent practical experience.
4+ years of experience in compliance, audit, security, or risk, with meaningful ownership of audit execution.
Hands-on experience leading or heavily supporting audits such asSOC 2 and ISO, and familiarity withC5(direct experience preferred).
Strong ability to interpret control language and translate it into implementation and evidence requirements that technical teams can execute against.
Comfort operating in cloud-based environments and understanding the building blocks auditors ask about (identity, logging, configuration management, change control, access reviews, monitoring).
Confidence facilitating walkthroughs and guiding discussions with auditors and SMEs in a practical, non-theoretical way.
Strong written and verbal communication, with a track record of working across teams and handling competing priorities.
Preferred:

Experience in or exposure to IRAP and/or GDPR (helpful, but not the core focus of this role).
Familiarity with GRC tooling such asRSA Archer(or similar platforms) and building repeatable evidence workflows.
Security or audit certifications such asCISA, CISM, CISSP, or similar.
License/Certification:

CISA or CISM or any other Security/Compliance Certification? (Preferred).

Application Closing Date
25th February, 2026.

Jobs/Vacancies“so What’s Your Excuse?” by Rubyjade(op):
“So What’s Your Excuse?” You have the mic
I think most young people of this generation are not disadvantaged—they’re just comfortable with excuses.

Let me be blunt.

This generation has more opportunities, more access, and more information than any generation before it. Free courses. YouTube. Google. Mentors online. Remote jobs. Communities. Tools.

The real problem is not lack of opportunity.
The real problem is lack of seriousness.

Before you judge me, let me tell you something about myself.

I’ve been a security guard.
A cleaner.
A community admin (pioneer moderator at Naijaloaded).
I tried to build a platform with friends—we failed. I wrote WAEC twice, JAMB three times, had carryovers twice, failed ICAN repeatedly (from PE1 era). I failed countless job interviews.

I worked as a bus conductor from Oshodi to Sango-Ota. (What I learned in 8 months felt like 8 years because the street does not give—it TAKES.). I sold boxers on the streets of Lagos. Check my MTN contact on Truecaller—you’ll see Banana Republic boxers 😄.

I worked as a salesman and learned something powerful: Sales is psychology.
Walk into my shop with all your “Aka gum” energy—I’ll still make you spend money.

I taught in a school where the principal created a very toxic environment. Before I arrived, private lessons in that school cost ₦8,000 for all subjects. I refused that. I charged ₦20,000 for just four subjects—the first time in the history of the school.

The next day, the principal, both vice principals, and the principal’s PA came to the staff room to ask how I did it. That money—just two months of it—was what I used to buy my first LG Android phone (which I later the the real owners (thieves) came for it). When the parent started reducing the fee monthly, I simply stopped the lessons.(This experience also taught me something- story for another day)

In that same school, student exam questions were hand written before taking to go and tyep in a business center for students even though the school had computers. I was the first teacher to use my own laptop to type exam questions and lesson notes and send them to the vice principal’s email. At the time, if you didn’t submit your exam questions by the end of the first month, there was no salary for that month.

During after school lessons period, I didn’t just teach subjects—I taught skills. Management didn’t like me because I was different. I told my students: “Assignments are my food. When I don’t see them, I become hungry—and a hungry man is an angry man.”

My assignments had to be submitted the very first thing next day. I didn’t care if they had 1,000 assignments from other teachers—mine came first. Parents began asking, “Who is this teacher making our children sit up like this?”

It was normal in that school for teachers to give expo during external exams. I told my students clearly: “I will never do it. I’d rather resign. But I will give you my blood and sweat to make sure you understand every topics.” And guess what? The dullest student in that class came out with a C4 in Financial Accounting.

The day I was leaving, even the principal—the same person who made the place toxic—said he would miss me.

Outside teaching, I’ve cut grass in redemption camp, NASFAT, MFM, Deeper Life, worked as a driver (I remember one experience, if I have time I will share the experience), and worked in a pure water factory, where I went to deliver water and got slapped mercilessly because I almost wan cause accident as my hand never strong for driving (chai… life lessons 😅). I cleared grass at MFM along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway three times—the third time, the man refused to pay me. I cleared a soakaway in Magboro. I have worked in a construction site, carry pan on my head to climb 3 storey building also known as Kpunpkom or Labukey in local parlance.

The day I brought home a motorcycle on hire purchase after learning to ride okada, thieves stole it that same night. I reported to the police, and they arrested me as suspect number one 😄. I spent two weeks there (second time experiencing jail), and it took me over eight months to clear the debt.

I entered a hotel as a security man as hunger wan almost finish me, man must survive. There was no barman—so I became the barman. I made mistakes and got debited (Similar experience in an audit firm and learnt the hard way that attention to details is a skill- story for another day) before I gained sense. Later, the owner noticed my spoken English, asked a few questions, and that same night promoted me to supervisor. From supervisor to accountant, then operations manager—until I finally left the hospitality sector for good.

This is not to boast.
This is to wake someone up.

Whatever your hand finds to do—do it well.
Stop the excuses.
Remove “impossible” from your vocabulary.
Stand up.
Show up.
Work hard.
Give value.

Your background does not limit you.
Your mindset does.

Today, I dictate how I want to work. Last year, I went for an interview at a manufacturing company and told them I don’t work weekends—no matter the pay. I learned this from Dr. Ugbom, FCA, who always asked: “What can't you achieve from Monday to Friday that you want to achieve on weekends?” When do you have time to develop yourself professional, have time for yourself and family when you grow older

I also told them I would do three months on-site, and afterward work hybrid. I said this expecting they wouldn’t choose me. To my surprise, I was the preferred candidate.

Before that time, I also got a job in a manufacturing firm, and I was asked to work in Saturday, I bluntly told the man, I don't work on weekends and told him I would refer someone, the person I referred we met at an interview two years ago.

This is my remote work journey:
3 British company
2 Nigerian company
2 American company
1 African company
I am currently doing three remote jobs.

Get up there—and get to work. 💪🔥

So, what's your excuse 🎤

RomanceRe: My Marriage Is Falling Apart Please I Need Urgent Advice by Rubyjade: 6:48pm On Jan 07
What I would gently recommend (step by step)
1. Reclaim financial boundaries You need some money that is yours. This is non-negotiable for your safety and self-respect.
2. Demand action, not promises If he says he’ll change, ask:
Will he address gambling?
Will he reduce drinking?
Will he seek help for sexual issues?
Will he allow financial transparency and independence?
Without action, words mean nothing.
3. Consider counseling—individual or marital Even if he refuses, you talking to a counselor will help you gain clarity and confidence.
4. Give yourself permission to want more You are not selfish. You are not shallow. You are not ungrateful.
You are a woman who wants a fulfilling life.
One final, honest thought
Ask yourself—not with fear, but with truth:
If nothing changes in the next 5 years… can I live like this and still respect myself?
That answer will guide you more than anyone else’s opinion.
Whatever you decide, you deserve peace, intimacy, growth, and autonomy—not just “a good man,” but a good partnership.
Cherryediva:
Hello everyone, sorry for the long post
I got married at 22, my husband was 40 at the time. We have been married for 5 years and we have a child together.

My concern is that my husband is not able to satisfy me sexually at all, which is frustrating, I have talked to him about it nothing seems to change. Financially, he is struggling, partly because he gambles a lot. He also drinks alcohol heavily.

I work too but he doesn't want me to have my own money he is always collecting money from me.
He doesn’t have clear goals, ambition, or a vision for the future, and this makes me feel stagnant in the marriage.

He is a good man in terms of character. He doesn’t cheat, he doesn’t abuse me at all, and he treats me well overall.

I’m confused because while he is good to me, I feel stuck and unfulfilled. I would really appreciate advice from y'all who have been in similar situations or who can offer honest guidance.
Thank you.

The first time I heard it, I didn't understand.

"Boss, a spanner lost."

I thought someone dropped a tool. Happens all the time on a construction site. Metal slips from sweaty hands. Falls into water. Gone.

I kept working.

By the third day, I'd heard it five times. Six. Then I stopped counting.

"Two spanners today."

"Three spanners yesterday."

Always the same flat tone. Like reporting the weather.

*We were building the old Niger Bridge. December 1965.*

The river below us was dark. Moving fast. You didn't want to look down too long.

I was new. Needed the money. My wife was pregnant. I told myself it was temporary.

One afternoon, the man next to me lost his footing.

I saw it happen.

He didn't scream. Just went over. A splash. Then nothing.
I turned to the supervisor.

"Sir! A man just fell!"

He didn't even look up.
"A spanner lost," he said. "Get back to work."

I stared at him.

"That's not a spanner. That's a human being."

He looked at me then. Not angry. Just tired.

"I said it's a spanner. Carry on."

I couldn't move.

"Sir, please. Take a roll call. Count us. The man beside me is gone. I swear it."

He wiped his forehead. Took a breath.

"Even if it's the man beside you, there's nothing we can do. He's gone. You want to stop the whole site? We have a deadline."

I stood there. My hands shaking.

"It's a spanner," he said again. "Now get back to work or go home."

That's when I understood.

All those spanners. Every single one.

Not tools. People.
Men who slipped. Fell. Drowned.

Fathers. Brothers. Sons.

Called spanners so the work wouldn't stop. So no one would have to write a report. So the bridge would finish on time.

I worked the rest of that day in silence. My chest tight. Sweat cold on my back.

*That could have been me.*

When they paid us at sunset, I took my money and never went back.

A friend's father told me that story about ten years ago.

I think about it often now.

Especially at work.

*Two years ago, I got transferred to a new school.*

Two weeks later, I heard the news.

A colleague. Someone I used to greet in the staffroom. Slumped during school hours. Right there on the compound.

They rushed him to the hospital nearby.

BID. Brought In Dead.

TESCOM sent a condolence message to the family.

That was it.

School resumed the next Monday. Someone else took over his classes.

Life moved on.

A year before that, a teacher at Community Secondary School name withheld.

Teaching his students when the classroom roof caved in.

He pushed the children out of the way. Took the worst of it himself.

Fractured ribs. Head injury. Hospitalised for months.

Government didn't pay a kobo.

He covered the bills himself. Borrowed from family. Sold things.

When he finally came back to work, limping, no one said much.

Just glad he survived.
But the roof? Still not fixed.

*We are all spanners.*

Every single one of us.
You think your title protects you? Your years of service? Your name on the door?

It doesn't.

The system doesn't care if you're HOD or classroom teacher. Permanent or contract. Whether you've been there two years or twenty.

When you fall, someone else will take your desk.

Your students will get a new teacher.

Your classes will be reassigned.

And life will carry on.

Maybe they'll send a message. Maybe not.

*I see it in the staffroom sometimes.*

Senior colleagues who walk around like they own the place.
Mr. Know-It-All. The Alpha and Omega of the department.

You're supposed to bow. Agree. Keep quiet when they speak.

They forget what the job title actually says.

Civil *servant*.

*Servant.*

Not lord. Not king. *Servant.*

You think TESCOM will remember you when you're gone? You think the Commissioner knows your name?

Nobody is irreplaceable.

Not me. Not you. Not the principal.

We're all just spanners on a bridge that has to be finished.

*There are three things in life that actually matter.*

* Your relationship with God. Or your maker. Or whatever you call the force that keeps you breathing.
* Your health.
* Your family.

Lose any of those and I promise you've lost what counts.

Money? Sure. You need it. Bills don't pay themselves.

But money isn't fourth on the list. Maybe seventh.

And pension? Government gratuity?

Don't hold your breath.

*Let me tell you something real.*

My parents retired over ten years ago.

They're still waiting for their gratuity.

Ten years.

Not ten months. Ten years.

Still waiting for the government to say thank you.

That Endwell scheme they're selling you? The one that promises big returns after retirement?

It won't save you.

I've seen retirees collect their lump sum. Blow it in six months. Then back to struggling.

If you're waiting on government to take care of you after thirty years, you're already in trouble.

But there are real options. Things you can start now. Small. Quiet. Consistent.

*Mutual funds managed by SEC-registered firms.* Stanbic, ARM, Meristem, FBN Capital. They pool your money with others. Invest in bonds, stocks, real estate. You earn based on performance. And you don't need millions to start.

*Agriculture bonds and funds.* Some platforms let you invest in real farming projects. Rice. Poultry. Cashew. Returns can be good if you choose right.

The magic isn't in one big investment. It's in time.

That's more than most gratuities.

But you have to start. Not next year. Not when salary improves.

Now.

Because the government will not remember you were a spanner until you fall.

By then, it's too late.

So what now?

I'm not here to preach. Or fix you. Or tell you what to do with your life.

But I'll say this.

If you're still acting like your job is your identity, wake up.

If you're still bowing to someone who'll forget your name the day you retire, stop.

If you're still betting everything on a pension that might not come, rethink.

You are not the bridge.

You're the worker.

And the bridge will stand long after you're gone.

*That man who fell into the river in 1965.*

Nobody knows his name.

The bridge is still there.

*If this story made you pause. If it reminded you of someone. If it changed something in you.*

Share it.

Not for me. For the teacher in your staffroom who's killing himself for a system that won't remember him.

For the colleague who thinks seniority makes them untouchable.

For the young teacher who just got posted and thinks the salary is enough.

Share it because someone needs to hear this before they become another spanner lost.

Tag a colleague. Forward it. Screenshot it. Print it and stick it on the noticeboard if you have to.

This isn't motivational talk.

It's survival.

And if one person reads this and starts that ₦5,000 monthly investment today, it's worth it.

If one senior colleague reads this and remembers they're also a servant, it's worth it.

If one teacher realises their health matters more than impressing the principal, it's worth it.
