NIGERIA MILITARY TO ENJOY MORE SUPPORT FROM GERMANY
Nigerian Armed Forces has continued to generate more support from the Western world and world leaders in the fight against insurgency. The latest support being, from the Federal Republic of Germany. A German Advisory Team in charge of military equipment and programme paid courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
Speaking during the courtesy call, the Team Leader, Colonel Thomas Brillisauer said that the aim of the visit was to discuss new areas of support in the fight against insurgency in the country. According to him, Nigeria has been a reliable partner therefore there is the need to support her by prolonging and increasing the military relationship for the future of both countries. It would be noted that the German military are the sole trainers of the Armed Forces Electronic and Mechatronics Engineering (AFEME) Workshop and School.
Describing the engagement of the two countries as very cordial, Colonel Brillisauer stated that the German government is ever ready and willing to improve on the existing relationship by wading into the current needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces in the ongoing war on terrorism which is different from other form of support on its bilateral relation. These include Medical Centre to cater for the treatment of war victims for the injured and traumatized, Military Mechanical Units, establishment of Peace Keeping Centre and Training in Counter Explosive Device (IED), Capacity Building and Training of Medical Personnel amongst others. This he said would increase the country’s footprint in Nigeria.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) represented by Defence Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Umar Omeiza describe both countries as partners in progress. He noted that the long standing relationship between the countries has yielded positive impact in the upgrading and establishment of Armed Forces Electrical Mechatronics Engineering workshop and school (AFEME). He therefore commended the German government on the proposed programme to support the military and expressed optimism that Nigeria would get out of the present security challenges and continue to exert its influence among the comity of nations.
It would be recalled that countries like the United States of America, Great Britain, Korea, Pakistan, India among others have thrown their weights behind Nigeria in support of counter insurgency operations.

BUT, not everybody is as sharp as you.

And u do practice sessions with one on one with swammy or people who have recently passed the plab
To me, i would advice anybody to at least do a minimum of 2 week prep at swammy/samson b4 the plab2
It will save u money and heartache later

NAF PROVIDES MEDICARE FOR IDPs
As part of the Nigerian Air Force humanitarian effort at caring for the less privileged and to provide adequate medical care for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East, the Nigerian Air Force Hospital which was established in Dalori IDPs camp in Maiduguri has commenced operation. The Hospital would not only cater for the healthcare needs of the IDPs, but also alleviate the sufferings of victims of terrorism in North Eastern Nigeria.
The 50 bed hospital by United Nations (UN) standard has an Operating Theatre, a Radio Diagnostic Unit, Dental unit, Laboratory, Accident and Emergency Units, Out-Patient and In-Patient facilities for at least 36 patients and a paediatric section. The full fledged NAF Hospital in Dalori IDPs camp is also equipped with facilities for in-patient catering, information and records, central sterile supply unit, maternity section and a pharmaceutical section.
It would be recalled that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar’s during his maiden visit to Dalori IDPs camp on assumption of duty, promised to establish a standard Hospital to cater for the health care of IDPs and victims of terrorism in the North East.

NIGERIAN CONTINGENT TO AFRICAN UNION STANDBY FORCE RETURNS

The Nigerian Contingent of the African Union Standby Force (ASF) consisting of 41 officers and soldiers arrived the country on Tuesday after a 2week intensive training
Receiving the contingent on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Commodore Uche Onyia explained that the ASF is a unifying and standing force that has the mandate to respond to insecurity and emergency situations in African continent. He emphasised that the establishment of the ASF would not collapse other existing intervention forces in different countries but rather intervene in cases of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and also monitor peacekeeping missions in the continent.
Explaining the pivotal role the Nigerian military has played at fostering peace in the past, he described the training as a huge step towards achieving peace and security in Africa. He reaffirmed the country's commitment to peace and making the continent conducive for all.
He used the opportunity to convey the CDS' appreciation to the Nigerian Air Force for airlifting the contingent to and fro South Africa and equally commended members of the contingent for their exemplary conduct. "The reports reaching the CDS while you were in South Africa was that you gave a good account of yourselves and made the country proud", he said.
In his remark, the leader of the contingent, Col Joseph Amadasun pointed out that the 2week field exercise was an intensive field training exercise which had to do with "operationalisation" of the standby force. The group consisted of 5,000 troops from Angola, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. He intimated that the establishment of the ASF was an effort by the AU to bring the member states together to work out modalities to tackle insecurity in the region. It also evaluated the force's operational readiness to respond to crises and monitor peace keeping missions.
The ASF is an initiative of the AU established to reduce reliance of African countries on external assistance for conflict resolution. The Constitutive Act of the ASF gives the Union the right to intervene in a member country uninvited in cases of grave circumstances, genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Other objectives of the ASF were to enable the AU observe and monitor missions, other types of peace support operations and provide proactive deployment to prevent dispute or conflict from escalating. It would also forestall violence from spreading to neighbouring states as well as curb the resurgence of violence.
The task before the ASF, among others will include post conflict disarmament and demobilization, as well as provide humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the civilian populace in conflict areas and during natural disasters.

apply for clinical attatchment immediately. try to go towards the north of england otherwise it will be difficult to get any attatchment
Then follow MDCN bumper to bumper so that they can send ur documents to gmc on time and in good order

I am almost certain that this was more of a mis-communication problem than a medical negligence problem.

I have seen patients in AMU- Acute Medical Units with significant cardiac or respiratory problems not clerked-in or not post-taken from ER just because of major work pressure.

It is quite likely that in the heat of "heavy workload", the nurses might have told her the patient had a DNAR order and she just assumed that info was correct. She then re-prioritized cases accordingly.

And the fact that she is a black person makes it more likely that they will try pin this on her as well...

A court in the UK has found a Nigeria-born doctor, Hadiza Bawa-Garba, guilty of the manslaughter of a six-year-old boy who was "seriously neglected" in hospital.

Jack Adcock died of a cardiac arrest at Leicester Royal Infirmary in February 2011.

The trial heard the boy's death was caused by "serious neglect" by staff who failed to recognise his body was "shutting down" and close to death, the prosecution claimed.
At one point, Bawa-Garba, 38, mistook Jack for another patient who had a do not resuscitate order.

Jack, who had Down's syndrome and a heart condition, was admitted to the hospital with vomiting and diarrhoea.

Bawa-Garba said in her defence she had worked a 12-hour shift with no break and there was a lot of miscommunication in the ward.

My question is did you really say and mean 10 - 12k pounds per month? If so,
1. is this for medical officers or for specialists and consultants
2. If for medical officers, at what level post internship is one eligible? I have 3 yrs experience post internship, am I eligible?
3. Is passing ielts, plab 1 and 2, the only requirement for such locum jobs? If not, what else is required?
4. How much of this salary is taxed and what is left as take home after tax?
5. What is the cost of living like in the UK? Can you estimate the average amount spent monthly by say a single guy on accomodation, power, water, gas, transport, feeding etc. What would be left after such recurrent expenses?
6. How many hours per week is one required to work to get such pay? Someone somewhere on this thread mentioned 48hrs per wk. Is this true for all locum jobs in the UK or is it employer dependent?
7. If the salary for medical officers is so high, I wonder what specialists and consultants would be earning. Do you have any idea?
8. Do the recent numerous job openings in the Uk include residency positions also? If yes, what specialties are involved? Would I be eligible after passing ielts, plab 1 and 2?
9. How long ago did these openings occur and how long do you think they'd last?
10. On average, how long dyu think one would need realistically to prepare for these exams, pass all and be ready to submit an application for a job offer. Do you think its reasonable to begin pursuing it at this time or would you rather advise that I focus on the US which seems to be more certain in terms of residency placement once one achieves a high score in USMLE...

1.We are talking from level of Junior doctors. But note that laws are fluid and could affect this at some point eg Junior doctors contarct will change from april 2016. Either way, its still a better option than naija
2.Advise that u complete minimum of house job and youth service
3. ielts plab 1 and 2 minimum requirements. extensive/international/u.k Experience boosts marketability
4. As per tax issues; lol there are ways around the thing which i can't reveal online. Ur locum people go handle am 4 u. Even if u dont like work and u decided to work 2 weeks in a month only. U could still earn baseline £2800-£4000
5. Depends on where u live. in london more expensive. As u head towards scotland/wales maybe cheaper. Lets assume u make only 2k a month. Even if u spend 1k a month on utilities and rent. u can still save £1k= naira350,000/month
6.guy u work however u feel comfortable. there is flexibility
7. Become a consultant and u'll find out. fewer hours, more money
8.Some specialties are more difficult than others to get in. But indians and pakis are getting in because they collaborate among themselves. the consultants help out the juniors. The Nigerians will stab u in the back or hide information. the nigerian consultant don't even want to be associated with u. Personally, i think itz an inferiority complex
Also try and join MANSAG or some association. may be helpful
All said and done, you can do whatever u want to do. ur mind is ur only limitation

10.USMLE residency is more certain. IF u can pass 1st time. The more u fail, the harder it becomes. PLAB is faster and possibly easier to pass. If ur a sharp guy, u can round up ielts plab 1 and 2 in 6 months. Start working and raise money for USMLE exams in between
USMLE no be beans. You have to be well prepared b4 u write it.
Of recent, I've seen a lot of ??ABSU-?abia state university doctors both in U.S and U.K and they seem to be doing very well
You hv to make up your own mind what u want. So that when u f-up, u can't blame anyone else.

My heart broke for nigeria when some consultants i knew left nigeria to write PLAB. Fear catch me sha. They complained of inability to pay school fees of their children, insecurity, poor remuneration, strikes, poor diagnostics etc
