COAS TOURS COLOMBIA ARMED FORCES FACILITIES
In another development, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, recently led a delegation of some senior Nigerian Army officers to major military formations and institutions of the Armed Forces of Colombia.
The visit which was the first since his assumption of office, was to offer the delegation an opportunity to inter-face with the Colombian Armed Forces on their efforts so far in resolving armed insurgency in their country and possible lessons for the Nigerian Army.
The COAS and his entourage on arrival at the Colombian Army Headquarters were received by the Colombian Chief of Army Staff, General Albert Jose Mejia, who briefed them on different categories of operations by his country’s Army, as well as drew analogy between what his country is going through and that of Nigeria.
Highlights of the brief include the 50-year war against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and other insurgent groups that have culminated in an ongoing peace talks, the deliberate effort by the Colombian military to unravel the identity of the various insurgent groups which composed of support groups, political groups, core fighting groups, leading to the decapitation of key leaders of the insurgents, the establishment of joint operations, and emphasis on civil-military cooperation to win the hearts and minds of the local population in areas where government presence were non-existent, among others.
The visit also took the COAS and his entourage to formations, military institutions, aviation unit and the engineer corps of the Colombian Armed Forces.
It will be recalled that Colombia has been battling insurgency in the last 50 years.
Consequently, the COAS visit to the country was primarily to meet minds with his Colombian counterpart on the best strategies to combat insurgency in Nigeria.

Artificial skin is saving thousands of lives of burn victims.
Initial patents developed by a Nigerian in 1981

Patents; Wounded Person's Cells Generate Shield of Skin
By Stacy V. Jones
Published: December 12, 1981

A person suffering from burns or open wounds can be treated with a sheet of living skin grown from his or her own epidermal cells. The method was patented this week for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology by a physician and a former graduate student from Nigeria.

Patent 4,304,866 was granted to Dr. Howard Green, a former M.I.T. professor who is now a department chairman at Harvard Medical School, and Olaniyi Kehinde. The process is being tested at a Boston hospital.

The sheet is formed on the surface of a culture vessel in which some of the victim's cells have been grown. It can be detached after application of a special enzyme. The sheet is not rejected by the body, as it might be if created from cells of another person.

Dr. Green has worked on the technique for several years, and has an earlier patent on human skin culture. Pigskin is currently used in treatment of body surface injuries.

Read for yourself - JF-17 is extremely controversial with the manufacturers making huge claims with serious contradictions relating to the engines (even the Russians questioned elements of the Engines performance - an engine they designed), radar(some claim it detection range is over 100km, others say its only 70km for a platform with an RCS of 3), payload, max-speed and even the evolution of its design

Basically: Its a very controversial platform and very little is actually known about it. Hence the arguments.

i'm really sorry to hear about the harsh economic situation for doctors in a country i once loved so dearly.
I am deeply annoyed about how medical personnel are treated in that country.
Unfortunately i can't see anything improving in the near future.
Infact, a couple of medical friends who worked in the oil industry with appreciable pay checks are being disengaged and sacked from oil companies now.
That economy is in free fall, and unfortunately your president is playing tic tac toe with the well being of itz citizens.

I have a friend in Osun state government employ who had the foresight to exit to UK about when those troubles started .
I don't know if the visa methodology has greatly changed of recent.
BUT, i don't see a reason why you can't get your father to sponsor you for PLAB or Clinical attachment visas.
You lucky say u even get person wey ready to help u. If u see how we rugged am that time eh cry...Soaked garri was our best friend grin
People like us had NOBODY.

Like i said, it is extremely difficult for the UKBA to turn down these kinds of request unless there is something gravely wrong.
Include your letter from GMC for the exams with the date. Explain that you are going early to be able to acclimatize and prep for the exams
As far as i know 3 mnths payslip usually is sufficient, but oyibo dey craze, so it is safer to use 6 months payslip.
They won't ask u why ur father is sponsoring u; even if they ask, if u tell them the truth that sun state medical workers are on temporary industrial action; i don't see a problem. They will know anyway because other doctors have probably gone through the same route.

I can't comment whether it is standard of Business category so i will refer u to the UKBA website. or call them and ask.
...Scratch that:
https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor-visa/overview
You can apply for a Standard Visitor visa if you want to visit the UK for business-related activities, eg:
you’re a doctor or dentist and are coming to the UK to take a clinical attachment or observer post
you want to take the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) test or sit the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

When u reach...ur fellow Nigerians will betray u.
Be circumspect
Good luck bros.
Never give up.

ruskidoc:
Hello again rugged7,
Pls I wonder if u could help clarify some issues regarding the plab visa....I am planning to apply soon but there is this issue with the financial aspect..unfortunately i am working in osun state at a government hospital and as a lot of people know its been really bad here with salaries, government owing us 5-6 months salaries and also paying us half salaries and to top it all we doctors in the state have been on strike since September and our beloved governor has stopped our salaries since September last yr,now I am thinking of using my dad as my sponsor using his bank statements,my own bank account is in disarray with very inconsistent salaries and of course almost dried up at the moment.
My dad says he'll not have any problem stepping in as my sponsor,he will write a statement and sign saying that he'll be my sponsor..... but I don't know how the ukba will see that-me as a working individual...with a job...why can't I sponsor myself!
And also I checked online that the plab visa is now under the standard visa category but some are still saying its business category, some sites say u need just 3 months bank statements while others say 6 months, also lately people are saying u have to go all the way to the embassy in person for the visa applicationhuhunlike before when u send ur documents!
Hope u can enlighten me on some if not all of this issues, thanks again for ur time.

Hmmm,

I would advise u not to really bother with MDCN until u pass PLAB2.
You could be using up funds u need for your u.k prep in paying for stuff in MDCN
Technically, GMC will write to MDCN when you pass. You just need to "facilitate" it from Nigeria side. Anybody can do this for you. You don't necessarily need to be physically present.
U.K visa is 6 months, so u have to try and hit the plab 2 1st time or 2nd time after that, you're on the clock with ur visa.
Either way, u have to leave the u.k b4 expiry of ur 6 months visa.
Try not to break this 6 month rule. I have seen a doctor break it by overstaying in the u.k. When he finally got a job in u.k and was given a sponsorship certificate to resume, the UKBA banned him for 1 year.

"I would have preferred giving the exams, securing a job, having all documentations done, before coming back to nigeria for the work permit visa"
All this is very possible within your 6 months visa if u try and pass the plab2 1st time.
It is extremely unlikely that UKBA will reject your application if the reason for ur uk travel is "to write PLAB exams" or "for clinical attachment"
BUT,
Oyibo people head too no correct. u can never tell sometimes with them

ruskidoc:
Thanks rugged7...for the swift reply.
Am planning on taking the plab 2 late may/early June 2016...and offcourse will have to attend either swammy or samson course,am still in Nigeria and that's why I want to get things in motion before leaving for the uk,don't want to have to come all the way back for some document or for something which I should have settled whilst still here.
Like you explained....so i will take this documents to MDCN and also pay for the letter of good standing and postage then ask them to send it to the GMC when needed?
Or will I have to still come back for this?
I would have preferred giving the exams, securing a job, having all documentations done, before coming back to nigeria for the work permit visa.
And also is it advisable to tell the UK visa office about attending the prep course?...or doesn't add any benefit to securing a visa.....I have heard of some Ppl been denied UK plab visa on some ridiculous grounds.
Thanks
CareerRe: Medical Doctors' Forum: Let Us Know You! by rugged7(m): 1:40am On Jan 06, 2016
Have u passed the plab2 ni?
Anyway.... From MDCN...period of internship and certificate of good standing
Make sure your dates are spot on and 3 months completed per rotation. Infact be extremely meticulous with GMC. They scrutinize everything.
Any errors and they will ask u to explain. Have a plausible explanation if things are not in order + evidence.
You go get to clear all ur outstanding debt with MDCN I know people who stacked up dues hitting 400,000naira
Depends on where u have links but Abuja is the epicentre for most things. But maybe they have decentralized and u might be able to get from the regional branches.

You can get a job without clinical attachment.
But most NHS jobs might ask for U.K experience + 2 U.K referees
So clinical attachment is one of the easiest ways to get close to the consultants, get them to like u and give u references as well.
Consultants are very powerful in U.K, they can even get u a job in their hospitals
But generally the clinical attachment is a useful way to understand the system without being under pressure.
There is another option of entering with RMO...That's probably the best route to enter for a foreigner. And they like nigerian doctors well well there

It seems there are some people trying to reach me backstage...
