just watched an interview of her after she finished the race on BBC iplayer and boy, am I proud to be Nigerian. heheheh.
She said "I've made my country proud" and she sure did!
She seemed so excited

That's really impressive of her for bringing pride and honour to Nigeria. . .

It really brings shame and reproach to people that think Nigeria have got no talent.

such people are uninformed. It's well known Nigerians are good at sprints. How many athletes of Nigerian origin are world class sprinters running for other nations?

I watched the race and the gold medal was unexpected which made it more exciting. I thought "she would do well" but when she won , replay replay slow motion replay replay and then in the relay she doubles with a silver.

yeah, well it would have been nice for me to share your sentiments. I applied/paid online in February for a new e-passport because the old one will be invalid as from December and when is(not was) my interview?

August 31st!!!!!!!

The website previously gave a date in the month of March, 7 February - 31 March, that's not long so I did not complain, and the date happened to be a public holiday(why give me a pub hol? though I thought it was just the website not being in sync with Uk pub hols, so did not complain) so weeks before I tried contacting them on what to do and I was not answered or replied(emails and phone calls). It wasn't my fault the website gave me a pub hol. I went back to the website 2sdays prior to this date and it automatically gave me a date during June(it figured itself out, finding that the previous date was a pub hol)
31 March -april-may- 3 June, not that short a waiting time, still I did not really complain, but I couldn't make this date as I had an exam but the website kept bringing up the same date when I clicked reschedule. I tried calling the office and after about 13 calls(wasting my time and calling credit) I was told by a man "As the website gave you a public holiday, there's nothing we can do except you come the next day".  I couldn't, still because of my exams.
, so I got fed up and decided to wait for some time to see if the website would provide another date , later got back online to change it and it now gave me 19July.
Feb-July, now I thought "finally I'll get this done"
I decided to print the receipts about a week to this date and when I logged in to their website it had automatically changed the interview date to 31st of August. I DID NOT request a new date. The website did this and I don't know why. Afterall it wasn't a pub hol. That's two months wait again.

It's annoying because I had to book two previous train tickets for two previous dates which I did not use, that's not mentioning the wait from 7th February -march-april-may-jun-jul-till 31st August. So far I've gotten 4 interview dates and 3 receipts printed which have the previous dates and I only rescheduled once by myself.
That's 7 months of passport interview date rescheduling. What a very frustrating dribble!

My current passport is meant to expire next year but it isn't an e-passport, which is why I'm applying for another one as the old type will be invalid from December but I'm wondering if the invalidity is if I'm travelling to Nigeria or if I can use it somewhere else after December. Does anyone know?

@rume

Did you have to wait for your interview date to pass before being able to re-schedule?
No I didn't have to wait. Actually the silly website rescheduled the date itself without my involvement, I logged on to see they had changed the date few days before that day and when I tried to change it, it kept giving me the same date

A take on some of these bands
Decyfer Down - "Walking Dead" what lyrics, from Decyfer Down's "End of Grey" album. I don't really jump around for the tracks I've heard from Crash, their new EP/album .
Kutless's new album so far isn't bad too.
Day of Fire - There's been so much noise about "lately" from their latest album on the internet and I have a video of them perfoming it on stage.
Seventh day Slumber- erm only "Caroline" really stays in my head.
Fireflight - sweet!!!!!!!! "For those Who Wait" video is sooooooo well done. great, don't know about "desperate".
Blindside - don't know these guys that much, only heard "Silence".

I've waited for 2 months,
SILLY website gave me 31st of May which is a UK Bank Holiday
After rescheduling, it gave me 3 August!
All this after starting my application in February.

Words fail me to describe how much I feel like killing someone who works there or made the website.

Nonsense.

Oh yeap, Brian Welch scares me! Well, rather, he looks quite scary and you may end up feeling sorry for him just by looking at him. I've not payed much attention to his listen to his music though.
Red, Decemberadio and Skillet all nice.
The letter Black and Fireflight are well nice too. "For Those who wait", the new album from fireflight sounds good too but Unbreakable from the first album is a catcher.
DemonHunter = decibel x 10000

Sir, get over yourself! What makes you think you're the only one who knows Anberlin? OR the most rock music bound soul here. angry tongue

Don't mind me, hehehe. I don't mean it that way but if it's a rock band that have a "christian" inclination then it's most likely I'd know them. They are or rather were on the Tooth & Nail Record label which has a lot of christian artists. I'm not a "fan" though of Anberlin.

Been listening to rock for about 13 years.
Rock (all subgenres) is deep so I think people should be really be careful with the bands they listen to. Bands like Korn, Staind, System of the Down, etc have hidden occultic messages in their songs. For this reason, I switched to Christian Rock.

When it comes to christian rock you'll find extreme satisfaction cos the christian bands are just as good as their secular conterparts (some are better). Here are some of the christian bands I listen to and a brief description of what they sound like.

The Letter Black - This is alternative rock. They only have one album but the album is correct. The lead singer sounds a lot like Avril but the music is heavier (the bass guitar is louder).

Demon Hunter- Pure heavy metal. These guys are really noisy. If you can listen to this then you've crossed over from Rock to Metal.

Skillet - This is about the most popular christian rock band at the moment. They're even on Billboard. A lot of screaming here but the nice strings and guitar riffs will cover for all that.

38th Parallel - They sound a lot like Linkin Park. The mix down of their music is not as good though.

Casting Crowns - The gospel message in their song can convert a muslim in a day. Lol!

Okay. I'm tired of describing the bands. I'll just go ahead and list a few more then I'll tell you how to find their music for FREE.

Jeremy Camp
Haste The Day
Falling Up
Tenth Avenue North (This was the second best band of 2009, you should really try this)
Head Aka Brian Welch (this guy broke out of KORN so the two bands sound alike)
Destroy the Runner
Red (one of my favourite)

For those that are not really into the heavy rock thingy you can try some of the following bands.

Hillsongs United (Hillsong is old school)
David Crowder Band
Meredith Andrew
Sonic Flood
Downhere

Okay, these CDs are not available in Nigerian shops (except the Media store in The Palms) so you can download from www.jetdl.com.
All you have to do is search for the artist or the album and it will take you to a file sharing website where you can download full, high quality albums.
You can also get songs (singles) from www.beemp3.com
Some would recommend LimeWire but I won't because of all the wahala that come with it
If you need more info, holla!

You've all gone mad. heeehheheh
Mostojr- I guess you like "Hanging on by a thread" I've had that on my webpage for over a month now. Beautiful drumming on the track, I must say.
The only band you mentioned I didn't know wasm 38th Parrallel.
I was never into secular rock. I though still scrutinise music whether it's by Hillsong or DCB or Demon Hunter, always test the spirit behind as much as possible.

And I hope you buy these songs and not download them from these filesharing websites for free, eh?

Dis Guy,

Thanks for your response.

I went to the embassy for the e-passport and everything went well. I must also say that I did not witness any drama or madness at the embassy. I will go there this week for the collection of the e-passport.

The following are the items anybody who has the old passport and wants the e-passport should go there with to avoid delay or come tomorrow:

1. Your old passport

2. Application form

3. Payment confirmation slip (of the $65 online payment)

4. Passport acknowledgement slip (it will show the date of your appointment)

5. £20 postal order to Nigeria High Commission London (processing fee)

okay, I want one but my problem is paying in dollars. I don't have a dollar account so can't pay online.
Also, did you take the so called guarantor's form along with you?

What peeves me beyond comprehension is the attitude of the "oppressed Nigerians"! shocked angry
You can sense a sign of resignation "to fate", like there is nothing we can do, we just have to continue "suffering and smiling", no matter the kind of extortion, indignity or intimidation, these criminals in uniform put us through?

As a nation, a people, for how long shall we continue to put up with every inhuman treatment we are subjected to?
What is really wrong with the mentality of an average Nigerian? Why must it be that you need a military man to bail yu out for carrying a genuine Laptop (The same military men you say u dont want to rule you?)
Why is it that for the sake of self, we will overlook evil being meted to another fellow?

You might say all these is grammar and add some sarcastic comment that makes you feel cool but the issue is "As long as you put up with these "official scams", it will keep getting worse and your children would have to put up with worse ones.
I am an I.T. person by training and l would be lost without my Laptop, even for a few hours (same goes with my phones, and l take pride in packing two expensive smart phones since they are not only for basic telecoms, they are also my work tool).

I wish l can find a way to "provoke Nigerians to anger" so that we can start in our own little, persistent but lawful ways, to protest, amid respectfully, that we know our rights and we demand for it (even if you dont have the means to enforce it, let the silly, thieving Policeman know that you know he is committing wrong, evil, for what he is doing).

Extortion is a criminal offense. whether by a civilian or a Police officer.

Dressing well does not make you a "good person" and dressing casually does not make you a criminal, infact, the criminal is more inclined to "dress powerfully", just to deflect suspicion.

I hope that I.G Onovo reads this nairaland, l hope he has the conscience to re-train the murderers he has armed with Ak-47, the right to kill!

I will not pay a dime to any Policeman that arrests me for possessing a Laptop. I cant even remember the receipts of a phone l bought recently, how much more a year-old Laptop! And in my house, we have four Laptops (every one has one, including my two grown boys).
I simply pass the old Laptop to my children when l buy a more modern one (bad Daddy! grin)

I will simply pay the "sacrifice" and politely wear put the patience of the police men.
There are better ways to track those doing Yahoo (what if they even encrypt the "Hard Drive" they use in committing Yahoo and it does not even appear at boot-up!) than harassing and extorting from law-abiding Nigerians.
Enough is Enough. Stand-up for your right to a decent life.

My ten quid.
BTW: where is our sense of charity? If you're a qualified lawyer, maybe out of work, why cant you advertise your skills to defend an oppressed stranger? Its more fulfilling than loafing around and who knows what may come unexpectedly from it?
We all can do some good in someones life, l bet.

Well, all these are what I was thinking, but they are definitely easier said than done. People to have to work and go about their daily activities, pick up their children, brothers, sisters from school etc, instead of having to be diverted to a cell on their way to their business and made to spend a night there. hmmm

After he was caught, he wasted no time in saying he was from AL Q,  and that he got his explosive stuff from Yemen etc. He was in a hospital so I don't think he was tortured or any such thing, but he gave all that information away, rather strange as I may expect him to refuse to speak or release all that info so easily. Something still funny about this whole story though. Maybe this was just a warning/threat/distraction from the so called "Al Qaeda" to the west.

The tabloid said he was "President of University's extremist Islamic Society" which I almost don't believe.
The University said he was "President of the University's Islamic Society" but I guess the press have added spice to it.
Well, he himself might have been extreme anyway.

while it is certainly true that most of us grew up trying to do M.J' dancing stunts and the fact he was one of the best Pop singer around, i cant but feel sorrow in my heart for this man.
it is quite funny how we look at people of fame without realizing how empty and unfulfilled they really are.
this guy's life is an example of how not to live yours if Heaven pour out blessings on you and you make resounding breakthrough in whatever you are doing.
I cant but curse the day this guy chose that he what to be white and his advisors (if he had any) that did not deter him from such a stupid act.
I cant but aso curse the day he chose to become member of the satanic church, this well know fact (which explains some of the scenes in his musical videos) cant but butress the fact that satan do not give any a free gift. it is a moment for people who feels they are at the pinnacle of life to re-think and make the best use of their staying on the earth for good.

now my golden question is 'If truely there is heaven, where now will be M.J (member of satanic church, san fracisco) be, with satan?'

your guess is good as mine[/i]

still don't think he ''chose to be white'', there are black people who became lighter(with dark patches in their skin) who decided to depigment their skin to even out the colouration. This as a result of the skin disorder, VITILIGO.
Satan's church or not, those in 'God's churches'-- how many of them would be in heaven if today was the judgment day?
God knows.

Michael Jackson is a sad story in how not to hate your skin color.
He's gone . . . but never got to pass on his DNA to his children.

Well, hmmmm, the ''self hatred'' wasn't on his skin color (maybe for his nose or chin). He never distanced himself from his roots or Afro-American community but he was always ridiculed.

I've seen several victims of Vitiligo but I'm yet to see one where patches of the person's original skin is completely wiped out and their noses awkwardly chiselled.
Actually, there are such cases. The person's skin can become really really ''white''.
If not severe, can be hidden with make-up, other times, it is easier to get rid of the pigments in the skin( to even colouration) as there may be more light spaces(which eventually become lighter and whiter) than dark colured ones.
